Café/Gaststätte am Grünen See in Melle

You should stay well away from this place. The staff is very unfriendly.

A welcoming place to rest during your hike, offering simple meals and a wonderful atmosphere.

A welcome refreshment stop on the Wittekindsweg trail. Between Bad Essen and Rödinghausen, this is the only place to stop for refreshments along the long-distance hiking trail. The innkeeper is very relaxed, and the café is charmingly rustic. Despite the beautiful weather on a summer weekend, it wasn't crowded; there were plenty of seats available, both in the sun and in the shade.

Unfortunately it was closed, but the location was fantastic.

We cycled through here one Sunday and lingered for a few hours. Jürgen (the innkeeper) runs this café/restaurant with a lot of heart and still has reasonable prices. Anyone passing by should definitely stop by, because the green lake is also worth a visit.

This idyllic little spot is somewhat hidden, but it's well worth stopping for a break (open Fridays and Sundays only). Jürgen's bratwurst is simply world-class 😋
