Café Mutz in Frankfurt am Main

I have loved Café Mutz for years - the staff, the food, the pub garden, the interior and the whole of Niederursel. Perfect! Don't come by car, but on foot, by bike or by train.

Very nice place to relax with delicious food and drinks.

Wonderful mix of “reading room”, pastry shop (also vegan), delicious breakfast. You can chat and relax there. (Dear) dogs are also allowed inside.

It's idyllically located, always busy, and accordingly beautiful. Delicious food, good cakes, and a nice selection of books. Owner-managed and therefore very personal. Love it. Very nice: the included bookshop with personal recommendations and the idyllic terrace.

The cakes are delicious, obviously on Sunday at certain times it is full and there is not much space. But it is definitely worth it, it is a very familiar atmosphere.

A wonderfully cozy atmosphere! My partner and I always enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of tea here. Interestingly, every time we visit, we find ourselves imagining and talking about our future—it’s as if this place has a special charm that inspires us. It's not wrong, but it's very peculiar. There is no menu, you are given the available dishes without any information about prices. The carrot soup was okay, but nothing special. The atmosphere is too busy for me. There is something lying around everywhere; That can also represent “charm”, purely a matter of taste. Service takes some getting used to for my taste; For me it had no feel-good quality.

It's a special place, you have to get involved with it. The food is great - homemade. The service is sometimes a bit spotty, but always friendly. I found the atmosphere wonderful. The many books 📚- wonderful.

A restaurant with light and shadow. The food is certainly above average. The ambience fluctuates between original and simple. The service and wines leave a lot to be desired. It's better to drink beer or non-alcoholic drinks there. The verbal presentation of the dishes on offer is also original.

Mutz and his boss are a piece of home to me.

Unfortunately, we didn't have good experiences with the Mutz. Most recently we were there with a small child and had to wait quite a while until the high chair and cards were brought and then again longer until we could order. But that was just the beginning of the wait. 45 minutes after ordering, we politely asked what was going on with our food (which the kitchen obviously didn't know about yet) and only got ill-tempered and even rude answers from the boss. For example, you are not at McDonalds here and have a closed company next door. There is also no understanding that you have to point out when ordering that the food may take longer - especially for guests with small children. Then they said several times that the food would come immediately, but it took another 20 minutes. And more like that... Unfortunately, the service staff wasn't any friendlier either. This was our second or third time at Mutz, and our experiences before were rather mixed. We definitely won't be coming back, the beautiful location doesn't help either. Zero professionalism, zero friendliness.

The Mutz is a very nice restaurant/café in Alt-Niederursel with a very pleasant outdoor area. Unfortunately we had to wait about 1.5 hours for our dinner today and didn't experience a single word of regret. Instead, our questions and our increasing impatience were met with complete incomprehension and even indignation. Finally, the invoice was also incorrect. In addition to a lack of regret, there was also no accommodation about the bill or an apology at the expense of the house. According to the NRW consumer advice center, if the delay is more than 1.5 hours, the bill must be reduced by 30%. I am very shocked by this unprofessional and unfriendly behavior and cannot recommend Mutz. The food was mediocre, there were only two vegetarian main courses on the menu and I found the daal to be too salty, more like a medium-sized portion and cost a whopping €18.50. In my opinion that is disproportionate.

A few things happened during the reservation. We wanted to eat and drink with 4 people, but got a table in the last corner. The table was dirty, so my husband messed his shirt and my colleague messed his hand. In addition, there was this totally unfriendly waitress who always slammed the gate behind us when she went through there. We were also ignored when ordering drinks and where we wanted to order food, we were told it was only available from the menu for 37 euros. Completely cheeky. We didn't eat anything and stayed with wine only to be told that the 40 people canceled because of this dirty table??? Are you crazy ??? When the boss was confronted, she had no insight. Give this shed a wide berth. Ambiance was ok, but this way of dealing with guests from outside was totally cheeky.

Super delicious food in a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere! The beer garden is cozy and you receive friendly and quick service. Gladly again!

The breakfast and the cake were delicious, as was the coffee. Unfortunately we had to wait quite a long time and then ate separately.

Once again I had to remind myself that it wasn't worth it for me to go to Mutz. The Mutz is beautiful and welcoming. The food is ok. However, the owners' alternative claim is obviously limited to harsh treatment of the guests, self-absorption and disorganized and slow service to the guests. It is not a privilege to be a guest of the owner.

Simple but pompous. Without any pointless trappings. Quite excellent.

Favorite place in the summer in the beautiful garden or in the winter indoors surrounded by books to browse and buy (like in the living room at home 😊). Delicious, changing dishes and delicious cakes. Great atmosphere and you enjoy waiting here because everything is delicious and freshly prepared.

My living room... And even if it takes longer (absolutely rare!) for my drink to arrive - I don't care, it can happen. What counts for me is hospitality, atmosphere and togetherness. Sitting there in the garden is like a vacation and a break from everyday life.

The apple pie is highly recommended.

We were there on a wonderful sunny morning. The garden was very cozy, but we waited 45 minutes from arrival to our first drink.

The cakes etc are quite good. The ambience is also great. It's great outside in the garden. But I can't shake the feeling that the owner has her favorite guests. If you're not one of them, you won't be welcomed. However, your companion is a favorite guest. I don't think it's okay to let your hair down when serving guests with food! Definitely upscale price point, but probably upscale ingredients too

Cozy environment and delicious food. Since there was an event taking place at the same time, we usually had to wait a little longer. But despite the weekend and the evening, we managed to get a spot spontaneously.

Nice café with a nice terrace and good cake, but unfortunately the prices are quite overpriced. €5.10 for a juice spritzer and €4.50 for a piece of cake (normal size) even exceeds airport prices, which is unfortunately disproportionate in my opinion.

Very unfriendly service, waiting time for drinks about 30 minutes. The place was completely overcrowded despite reservations.

We celebrated a birthday with 19 people. Here, of course, everything was reserved and discussed in advance. When we arrived on time, we had to wait outside because there was no space. We stood in the rain for almost 15 minutes until at least a few of the guests could sit down. In the completely overcrowded room, two tables were lined up next to each other and it was assumed that there would be enough seats. There wasn't room for another table anyway. So a few of the guests sat a little apart. After 40 minutes and repeated reminders, we finally managed to ensure that every guest had something to drink. The table that was a bit off to the side was then cleared away by us guests, as that was not within the staff's capabilities. The food was mostly okay. The toilets were cold and not particularly clean. The café has no charm, the staff apologized at some point, but that was more of a bad thing. If you don't have staff and space, you simply can't accept as many reservations.

I ordered brunch for my birthday. The preliminary conversation was nice and I then relied on the agreements. But then things turned out differently than we had discussed. The aperitif was not prepared as agreed, the buffet was only refilled after repeated requests, the drinks sometimes waited over half an hour or they never came at all. All in all, unfortunately I didn't have a nice day with my guests. If staff are absent at short notice, which is only later explained as the reason for everything, this could have been communicated beforehand.

Since I had some very positive and some negative impressions during my visit, I'll list them separately. Let's start with the positive: - The location is pretty, with attention to detail, and very homely. - The visual impression of the entire meal is great. The main courses are beautifully presented on the plate. There are not only cakes and sweets, but also a lot of savory things. - The boss is very friendly and even reserved a place for me last minute. - There are regular small concerts here, where you can eat, drink and dance. Nice atmosphere! However, I also noticed the following negative things: - The service is very strange. The boss herself moaned about how stressed she was when making the reservation and signaled this to the guests several times in the evening. The other service staff are quite young and seemed uninterested. I had to ask for the menu several times, the order for a beer got stuck somewhere in Nirvana, and when I was paying, the girl behind the cash register told me that she didn't know if she could do it now. - The boss had very long loose hair, which hung on her plates several times when the food was served. Not necessarily the most hygienic. There are solutions for that. - The prices for the food are way too high. Everything looks great, but unfortunately the portions are quite small. The taste is good, but given the prices I expect a bit of sophistication. In the end I spent almost €30 for 2 small glasses of wine, 1 beer, and two small bowls of hand cheese with music or olives in oil with goat cheese. - Unfortunately, card payment is not possible, which then prevented me from getting something larger. All in all, a nice location with good food, not-so-great service, and prices that are a little too high. You can still go there quite well.

The location is very nice. Unfortunately the owner was disorganized and unfriendly. I experienced this for the second time today. The first time we waited more than 30 minutes until we could order, even though only 3 tables in the garden were occupied. It was also slow and sloppy. Today there was a sign outside telling you to order inside. There she asked me what I wanted and where I would sit. She doesn't have time now and has to bring coffee away. I said I could tell her what we wanted. She shouts at me that she is only now taking away the coffee. Whereas two men could order at the counter. That was the last time we were here. In addition, it is not cheap.

Why does Google Maps say the café is open???? After a long hike we found ourselves in front of a closed door. Very annoying 😞

Café Mutz in a well-kept half-timbered house in the old town of Niederursel is a jewel. When I entered the property, I noticed the spacious beer garden, which is certainly very pleasant to sit in in warm weather. I immediately felt at home in the ambience of reading café, cabaret and hospitality. The Mutz impressed me with its cozy and homely furnishings. I had an appointment with a good friend at Mutz. When choosing our menu, we were pleasantly surprised by the small menu with organic quality dishes and the fine range of drinks. We received excellent advice from the dedicated landlady and, thanks to the decision-making assistance, we ate deliciously and drank well. I can highly recommend the dark, non-alcoholic wheat beer and the excellent Spanish red wine made from the Tempranillo grape. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere in the cozy Mutz and felt very comfortable. In our opinion, the prices were absolutely fair and appropriate for the quality offered. We'd love to come back! Note: you can only pay in cash at Mutz. Cards are not accepted.

The breakfast was very tasty. And in general the selection is great. The service is very friendly, but you have to be patient when ordering, waiting for the food and the bill. The front part of the café in the book area is very comfortable but a bit cramped, in the back area you can sit a little more freely :-) we always like to come back!

Das ist ein nettes kleines Café gut erreichbar gut kombinierbar mit Spaziergängen in der schönen Nieder-Urseler Umgebung und mit schöner Atmosphäre. Das Einzige, was mich stört ist die mangelnde Freundlichkeit gerade der Inhaberin selbst. Ich empfinde Sie als schroff, kurz angebunden und fordernd. Man kann ja durchaus klar sagen, was man möchte. Aber der Ton macht die Musik. Wenn ich von Ihr bedient werde fühle ich mich dort nicht wohl und das unerheblich davon, wie viele oder wenige Gäste da sind. Ganz im Gegensatz dazu werde ich von Ihrer langjährigen Angestellten (?) mit professioneller Freundlichkeit höflich und zur vollen Zufriedenheit bedient.

Nette Lokalität mit Gartenterrasse. Das Essen ist gut, ein wenig überteuert. Ein Besuch lohnt sich. Leider keine Kartenzahlung möglich, das müsste unbedingt geändert werden. Ich hatte zufällig Bargeld mit.

Einladenden Ort, der zum Verweilen animiert. Guter Kaffee und selbstgebackener Kuchen. Eine kleine Oase.

Sehr nettes, gut gelegenes Café in Niederursel. Kleine, nette und originelle Karte. Charmantes Ambiente. Die Wirtin ist engagiert, mit etwas rauer Schale. Ich habe mich da wohl gefühlt.

Immer wieder schön! Abgesehen von den hervorragend Essen und Kuchen gefällt mir die Atmosphäre und das super Team. Die Kombination Café und Bücherstube ist genial! Ich komme so oft es geht!

Ein kleines Restaurant mitten in Niederursel mit einem schönen Außenbereich. Deinem gibt es eine "Bücherecke", wo man sich gemütlich hinsetzen und ein Buch aus dem Regal lesen kann. Alles Essen wird frisch und überwiegend selbst hergestellt. Die Mitarbeiter sind sehr freundlich und lokalen Künstlern wird die Möglichkeit gegeben auf einer kleinen Bühne aufzutreten. Gestern waren Sport bei Anba Liebst, die Liefert von Reinhard Mey gespielt hat- großartig! Wenn es etwas voller ist, kann es etwas chaotisch mit dem bestellen werden und man wartet vielleicht einen Moment länger auf die Bestellung, aber das ganze Team ist immer sehr bemüht alles schnellstmöglich an den Tisch zu bringen. Und man sollte die Zeit hier auch zum relaxen und entspannen nutzen. Ein schönes Restaurant mit sehr viel Atmosphäre und leckeren Essen!

Wir haben unser Jahrgangstreffen hier ausgerichtet und es hat alles gestimmt. Ein sehr netter Service und schmackhafte Grie Soß....Den Rest haben wir mit unserer ever-coolen Bettina-Schul-Crew gewuppt. Toller Abend!!!

Habe eine Bärlauch Bratwurst mit Pürree und Rotkohl gegessen und selten ein so gut abgestimmtes einfaches Essen bekommen. Sonne bis Abends. Ein Kritikpunkt: Keine EC Zahlung.

Sehr schönes Ambiente, vor allem wenn man im Hof sitzt. Gutes Frühstück, wenn auch nicht überragend. Service war sehr barsch und ließ lange auf sich warten.

Ich kenne dieses Café schon seit dem Beginn im Jahr 2008 und ich bin immer wieder begeistert. Die Preise sind gehoben, aber es wird auch immer eine gehobene Qualität geboten. Es stimmt, der Service lässt manchmal ein wenig auf sich warten, aber mich persönlich stört es nicht, es gehört eher zum Gesamt-Package dazu. Hier wird individuell gearbeitet und nicht nur nach Effizienz geschaut, scheint mir, deshalb kein Abzug bei der Bewertung. Wenn ich mir etwas Besonderes gönnen möchte, führt mich mein Weg gerne zum Mutz. Ansonsten kann ich alles Positive bestätigen, was die anderen Rezensenten erwähnt haben. Unbedingt besuchen!
