Cafe Hegel in Stuttgart

Unfortunately, it wasn't a great visit. We waited far too long for the food (over an hour), which is simply a no-go, no matter how busy it is. They just need to hire more staff. The food wasn't that special. Some of the things we ordered never arrived at all...

Given the wide selection, we had to enjoy Café Hegel's fine selection a second time, and we were just as impressed. Delicious, fresh sandwiches and drinks. This time we had a sandwich, pancakes, and scrambled eggs.

Good cappuccino, nicely decorated cafe with a pleasant atmosphere. Friendly and welcoming staff. I recommend it.

We had brunch at Café Hegel on a Saturday with a group of friends, drawn by its reputation for great pastries. The food was overall okay - I had the Truffle Omelette with Parmigiano, which was tasty but not particularly memorable. Some of my friends had Perfect Egg Bagels, Classic Breakfast or Eggs Benedict that looked quite good. Unfortunately, despite having made a reservation for a larger group, there was no adequately prepared table waiting for us when we arrived. We got seats for 6 and had to rearrange and extend the seating further ourselves, which was a bit inconvenient. The café was also very busy and seemed clearly understaffed, with only two waiters trying to manage a full house. Most of our group waited over 30 minutes just to get their drinks. So if you're planning to visit on a weekend, bring some patience - or try coming on a quieter day. That said, kudos to the two waiters who did their absolute best to keep things running despite the overwhelming crowd!

We visited Café Hegel for the first time today and were very pleasantly surprised. A large selection of fresh, delicious cakes. A truly diverse menu. My daughter and I opted for the "Egg Florentine" 😋, mine on whole-grain bread, my daughter's on brioche. My husband had the eggnog cake and mandarin orange cake, as well as a portion of fresh, fluffy scrambled eggs. The three of us thoroughly enjoyed everything. There's also an extensive drinks menu, and the fresh orange juice is particularly noteworthy. The service was very friendly and attentive. We sat outside; I think it would have been better with larger tables, which unfortunately aren't available outside. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of the cakes.

If you find yourself in the centre of Stuttgart at the Rathaus Ubahn then this cafe is a must. Amazing indoor seating area as well as outdoor seating. For myself as a Canadian living in Stuttgart, sitting outside Cafe Hegel is exactly what the image in my head was of enjoying an outdoor espresso in Europe. I come from Victoria BC on Vancouver Island on the far west coast of Canada. We have a huge coffee culture and the coffee here ticks all the boxes for me. I live in Möhringen and come for the coffee, location and friendly staff.

My wife and I spontaneously stopped by this café for breakfast. I have to say, we were both pleasantly surprised. Upon entering, you're greeted by a pleasant atmosphere, comfortable seating, and light lounge music. Then the food, which was also beyond reproach—simply delicious. In short, a recommendation.

Cozy café with outside and inside area

Very tasty breakfast. It was very busy, you had the feeling that the staff were a bit overworked, but still very friendly. It all just took a while.

Couple of friends of mine went to Cafe Hegel for brunch! We had an amazing time! The atmosphere was great! I loved the decorations and the chairs were comfortable. Our waiter spoke English and he was so helpful! They had such a great selection of delicious food and it was very hard to pick from! Highly recommend visited the Cafe Hagel!

The two of us were there on a Saturday at around 12 p.m. Unfortunately, all the cocktails with alcohol were out, as well as the pistachio pancakes... a bit disappointing at such a time. There is an unacceptable level of noise there due to the other guests and the completely overcrowded restaurant. After 45 minutes the ordered food arrived. The avocado bagel had a completely different bun than shown on the menu and was hard and dry. Otherwise the bagel was okay, but nothing earth-shattering. The Nutella French toast that I ordered instead of the pistachio pancakes was okay. However, it was noticed that the Nutella was probably running out here too, as there was far too little of it on one of the two French toasts. After I wanted to order another Lillet, the lady told me that I should order from the waitress in charge. They could have forwarded it to the right waitress even if she didn't serve me. The service left a lot to be desired. When the waitress asked when paying if everything was okay, I pointed out the dry bagel that I hadn't ordered. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be of interest. All in all a rather disappointing visit. The food looks bomb, but unfortunately it's nothing special. Edit: the restaurant has already had my review removed from Google for the second time because what I wrote is apparently not true. Absolutely unprofessional. Instead of taking the criticism to heart, you just try to let it erase dry.

I ordered a pink latte and a pistachio croissant here. The latte looked good, but unfortunately it was too sweet and had a slightly powdery consistency. The croissant was okay but lacked that airy and crunchy texture.

A great cafe with a few flaws. The food is very tasty and the portions are sufficient - no one leaves here hungry. Only the waffles are not their strong point, they are quite solid and the taste is not convincing. Everything else tastes really delicious. Unfortunately, what we always notice negatively is the service. The young waiter is super friendly and has it under control. Unfortunately, this is not the case with most waitresses and the lady who seats you and brings out the food is not very attentive and seems rather annoyed. You often have to wait longer to be seen and served. Unfortunately, this always spoils the visit.

Unfortunately disappointing – no recommendation for Shakshuka I ordered two Shakshuka from this cafe and was unfortunately disappointed. The dish had little to do with real Shakshuka: instead of a spicy tomato base there was only tomato juice with peppers, the eggs were completely cooked through - overall not edible. The condition of the cutlery was also a no-go: the cutlery head was dirty, as was the inside of the cutlery. Hygiene doesn't seem to be a high standard here. Overall, I would give the food a maximum of two stars. If you value authentic Shakshuka, you should go somewhere else!

I actually really enjoy coming to this café, the atmosphere is pleasant. Unfortunately, today I had a very unpleasant experience for the first time. One of the waiters (a bald waiter) was extremely disrespectful and unfriendly. Such behavior doesn't fit at all with the otherwise high-class impression of the restaurant. I think it's important to address something like this so that other guests don't have to feel uncomfortable and the quality of the service is maintained. VG

Best pistachio pancakes ever! Really good ice coffee too

We visited today and were asked quite quickly if we already knew what we wanted to order. Since we needed a moment, we kindly asked for some time to think about it. Unfortunately, the waitress seemed slightly annoyed and we were then completely ignored for around 15 minutes. When the food finally arrived, something happened that rarely happens for me: I simply didn't like it. Normally in such cases I don't say anything and just eat, but since the portion was quite large I gathered my courage and politely let a waiter know. Unfortunately, there was no response at all. The least one could have expected in the situation would be that the dish would be canceled from the bill. Especially in view of the waiting time until we were finally allowed to order and the long wait until the food came. It's a shame - I'm really disappointed.

Fast service, delicious and has a wide variety of desserts. The ambience is attentive.

We had a comfy, clean, and super tasty breakfast in Stuttgart. The prices were average, but the portions were insanely big. First, it filled our eyes, then our stomachs! If you ever find yourself in the area, make sure to stop by and treat your tummy to something special!

One of the best macchiatos in Stuttgart, the blueberry cake was also very tasty. Friendly staff.

And the pancakes with pistachio are simply divine! Light, airy, with a perfectly balanced taste. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is friendly, the service is excellent. I want to come back here again and again! I recommend it to anyone who appreciates quality food and a pleasant atmosphere.

Super delicious brunch there. It's really nice to sit in. Unfortunately you always have to wait a bit if it's too full to be served, but that's ok.

Large cafe with lots of seats inside and outside. Very busy on a Sunday afternoon. The service is still friendly and quick. Coffee and espresso were very good and excellent cakes both in terms of selection and enjoyment.

A nice café in itself, the service could have been a little more attentive. Unfortunately, there is little flexibility when it comes to changes (for example, swapping the truffle bagel with meat instead of scrambled eggs is not possible, although there are even bagels with eggs on the menu...) The truffle omelet that I ordered was more like scrambled eggs, but the taste was okay.

Nice staff, fast service and sweet atmosphere. I deduct for the dusty dishes (my partner's too). I generally think the teapot with the tea is very good, but there is a problem: when you put the tea in, the lid no longer closes completely, so the tea becomes cold as soon as it has been steeped after 5 minutes. I would probably switch to tea bags (which you can fill yourself).

The large cappuccino was extremely tasty, but also the most expensive one I have ever drunk. The piece of cake that I chose from the display case was cheekily cut in half - I was so perplexed that I accepted half the piece of cake and paid for it in full.

My friend and I were looking for a nice coffee and brunch place and reserved this place online as it usual runs out and pretty packed always when we walked past it. The experience in our opinion was really good. The brunch, we also got excited and even got the cake and even that turned out be nice. The Greek omelette was perfect with right salad and the feta with the eggs was perfect. A wonderful cafe with a very good vibe :)

Terrible experience. The maître d was so rude - wasn’t warm, didn’t smile at anyone, looked like she didn’t want to be there. The waitstaff weren’t particularly great, they mixed our drinks up, food was cold and I found a hair in my breakfast! Avoid.

Cafe Hegel is a nice place in the centre of Stuttgart, which offers a big variety of breakfast, sweats, coffee, and drinks. We had a delicious greek omelette and avocado baguel with tea and coffee and for dessert pancakes with fruits and chocolate! In the beginning, we sat outside, as the shop was full, but soon the waitress offered us a table inside, top service! Thanks a lot, and see you again 😊

Pros: - Basically nice location and good location - Coffee tastes good Cons: - Very tight seating - The (cheese cream) cake definitely doesn't taste homemade and generally not really good and is relatively expensive - We were ignored for a relatively long time until we were able to order Neutral: - Hugo is okay but there are better ones

Love this place! Amazingly good food, awesome staff, crowded with guests, like always packed - which can only tell you one thing: the hype is worth it! We randomly found it one weekend, and it was such a gem, since then have been going regularly! It‘s a great place to enjoy a Saturday or Sunday morning for coffee, breakfast or brunch 😊!

Positive and negative reviews! First of all, on the positive side: the quality of the food is absolutely top! Delicious ! The selection is also very good and the staff is impeccable. Negative: We were there for breakfast on Sunday January 26th, 2025. We reserved a table and also asked by phone whether there was a time limit for the duration of the stay. This was denied on the phone and we were assured that we could stay as long as we wanted. However, on site it was said that a maximum of 1.5 hours would be possible. Annoying if you travel specifically to Stuttgart. Please clear rules here!! Unfortunately, the service person who led us to the place didn't understand our request because she probably didn't speak German 100%, which led to a discussion. A little tip: if you don't understand something because of the language, get someone to help you and don't put your own ego in the foreground. The service then changed and everything was fine.

I can highly recommend Cafe Hegel for breakfast. The portions are very, very large, beautifully prepared and everything tasted very good. I would like to thank the nice service person (gentleman from Greece, unfortunately I don't know his name) again. We felt very comfortable and welcome. We would come to Cafe Hegel on every trip to Stuttgart.

It's a very popular place, so it's quite crowded and difficult to get a spot on weekends without a reservation. Unfortunately, the food is nothing special for the price and the staff sometimes seem overwhelmed by the number of guests.

Yummy. Unfortunately a bit narrow and a bit uncomfortable when there is a lot of traffic. When I made a careless movement, I immediately threw something off the (very small) table. There isn't that much space for all the plates and bowls that come there. If it's not rush hour, then it's probably not that dramatic.

If you're looking for a cafe that closes its kitchen for pancakes with atomic clock precision, look no further. We wanted to order pancakes today at 3:02 p.m. - unfortunately it was pointless because they are only available until 3:00 p.m.! When we asked whether an exception could be made for two minutes, we only received a regretful “I can’t do anything about that.” The pancakes may be good – provided you can manage it in time with Swiss precision…

If you are tourist i strongly recommend to not come here! They just put us on the corner in cold wheather (they already had free seats). We just ordered 2 simple food for breakfast we have waited more than 1 hour and they bring nothing. And zero attention from waitresses. Most probably they have issues with tourists i really don't understand their behaviour. We have visited many places and we had 0 issue like this. So please take care and make double check if you want to come here!

Hearty recommendation!!! Unfortunately there are not as many stars as I would like to give the restaurant 10/10⭐️. I don't know of any café that is anywhere near as good as the Hegel Café. The staff is incredibly nice and the food is unique. I think the pictures of the food speak for themselves. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by great treats. I would come here again and again.

Really nice place. Even at the beginning I was told that everything has been booked and I have to seat at the bar but than Jayan found the solution and gave me nice table. The coffee was good which is rear for Germany. The food was delicious- Greek omelette and croissant- perfect choice. I liked the place and atmosphere, really cute breakfast place.

The cafe is very nice (reminiscent of Vienna/Paris), but the service was a bit slow and there were no more pancakes at 12 p.m., although according to the menu they are available until 3 p.m. We then had the New York Bagel. Personally, the portion was a bit too big for me, but it tasted okay.

The place truly doesn’t deserve its 4.6 rating. They make good coffees and are polite. Maybe cakes are good, but I didn’t try. But: 1) they’re shortstaffed. One lady reasonably struggles to wait all the tables. Waiting times to be served are ridiculous 2) they’ve served eggs florentine with a hollandaise that didn’t thicken. The sauce is really make or break of the dish, and it is obvious for anyone that if it didn’t thicken - well, you throw it away and make new. What Cafe Hegel did, they poured mix of yolk and butter over eggs and bread and served. When pointed out, they didn’t argue, I paid for drinks and left. Offering to take drinks on the house as a way to apologize could be nice, but they didn’t. Sad I had to wait for so long to be served improperly prepared breakfast. So tl;dr: might be okay for coffees, but avoid if looking for a breakfast place.

You need to make a reservation in advance, it is a restaurant with a nice atmosphere, the prices are moderate, we ordered scrambled eggs and Greek style scrambled eggs for breakfast, the eggs were good, the sauces on the vegetables next to them were sweet and different in our opinion. Their bread was good, we as a family were satisfied.

Good breakfast, some options for vegetarians too. Central, service ok, could be faster and more effective. Nice atmosphere right next to Hegel's birthplace. This is also a museum worth seeing if you like philosophy, so why not start with a philosopher's breakfast.

I met up with an old friend there who I hadn't seen for a long time. This meeting was even nicer because not only our conversation but also the food in the restaurant was excellent. Particularly nice with a glass of rosé from Kessler. Everything was great 👍

The food was ok overall but it’s just cheeses and ham , nothing was cooked expect of egg which was overcooked. Portion was generous and good selection of cheese and ham though. However , service was not welcoming at all.

First impressions can be deceiving. Maybe it's the time, but the sandwich wasn't really as fresh as I expect it to be at this level. The cappuccino was a little more than lukewarm. Conclusion: I don't have to come here again. They certainly won't miss the good things about me.

Had delicious cake and chai latte. Food-wise it was okay, so-so. On the weekend, however, it was very crowded and a bit chaotic, with hardly any free seats available. Service was impeccable. At that time, it was temporarily not possible to pay by card at the counter to take away the cakes/tarts.

First things first: cake was fine. But service was very short. You had to ask if you could order something. Coffee came after 15 minutes, cake only another 10 minutes later. Seats were only half full, so not much going on. Priced at a very high level. Some tables were not cleared or were still dirty. Not inviting. So there are much better cafes in a comparable location. It's a shame actually.

We were very disappointed with the ambience! I had reserved and asked for a nice table because it was my husband's birthday that day and we always choose a nice location for breakfast every year. The distance between all tables is approximately one D4 side! Therefore private entertainment is not possible. We were also unlucky that the couple next to us was very loud! We heard every syllable of their conversation. Half of the tables would definitely have to be removed, then it would be great to have breakfast there. The food was okay with some sand in my side salad that I couldn't eat. For €50 for a breakfast for two, we expect more. The service was very nice.
