Cafe Giaccomo in Bonn

I simply found the little locomotive to be an interesting sight, and I think it's beautiful. I recommend it. Unfortunately, I can't say anything about Giaccomo. I haven't been there, unfortunately.

Terrible service!!! The outdoor terrace was only partially occupied, yet tables were still not cleared. After ordering appetizers, starters, and main courses, no one thought to ask for additional drinks. Instead, the starters were served along with the main courses. When asked about this, the waitress couldn't offer a solution; a shrug was the only response, and the starters and main courses remained. Ordering additional drinks was only possible if you could somehow get the waitress's attention. Of the main courses, two were good, two were mediocre at best, and not as described on the menu. Drink glasses were not cleared during the entire visit, and plates were only cleared after a considerable time. The waitress preferred to deal with other employees rather than the guests. I have rarely encountered such ignorance as a guest. My first and definitely last visit there.

We had a chicken bowl and were very disappointed. Such a small portion for the price. A few lettuce leaves, two slices of cucumber, two cherry tomatoes, a bit of rice, and five pieces of chicken for €19. Never again!!!

We visited this restaurant today, and unfortunately, the food was a huge disappointment. My husband and I both ordered schnitzel—I with fries, he with fried potatoes. I've never eaten anything so tasteless. Everything was bland and had a strange aftertaste. Even after adding salt and pepper, it was barely edible. The texture of the schnitzel was also very strange and unappetizing. For a lunch that was practically inedible, we found the price significantly too high. However, I would like to highlight the service: The staff was very friendly, and the dishes were served quickly. The presentation on the plate was also very appealing. It's a real shame—we had hoped for much more.

Everything was fine at this restaurant until we needed the bill. We were ignored by all the waiters, simply ignored, and even when I went to the bar to ask for the bill, they continued to ignore us. When we finally waited (thank you very much), the waitress came back with a dissatisfied look on her face. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back.

We were there today at 9:15 p.m. and actually wanted to eat something. Drinks were brought quickly, everything looked good – but then came the shock. After the waiter took our food order, he came back shortly and said he had to check if the kitchen was still open. A few minutes later, we received the information: the kitchen was closed. Why would you seat guests, take their orders, and serve drinks if you don't even know if they're still cooking? You could have said that right away – then we wouldn't have stayed in the first place. For us, this was our first and last visit. You don't treat guests like that.

I like the Giacomo very much. I would say it is one of the nicest cafes/restaurants in downtown Bonn. Unfortunately, the service has deteriorated since there have been various changes in ownership. Nevertheless (still) a total of 4 stars for the ambience and the menu.

Basically, we really enjoy coming to this restaurant. We have been eating there regularly for many years. Today the six of us wanted to eat something on the terrace. Since the tables were too small for 6 people, we considered whether it would be possible to put two tables together. A waitress then came to us to tell us very rudely that it was forbidden for us to put the two tables together. We hadn't even asked her at that point. We then went somewhere else to eat. I think it's a shame that as a service person you react so unfriendly and can't look for a solution in a friendly manner. Unfortunately, you immediately lose the desire to stay there.

After we were unfortunately ignored at the entrance, we were asked to sit at a table that was still covered with dirty dishes. When we still hadn't been served after a good quarter of an hour, we picked up menus from a neighboring table. As soon as we opened the menu, the waitress came and we ordered our drinks, asking us to eat in a few minutes as we had just opened the menu. The dirty dishes were taken away on the same train. The drinks came relatively quickly, but we were only allowed to give up our meal request after we asked again. Unfortunately, the starter didn't live up to its price. The main course also left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, the schnitzel that we actually ordered was already “sold out” around 7 p.m. on a Saturday evening. So we each ordered a burger. Both burger patties (veggie & beef) seemed very industrially shaped and were very dry (beef) or very mushy (veggie). The fries, on the other hand, tasted very tasty, were crispy and fresh, but a little small for our taste. Overall, we recommend planning a lot of time when visiting this restaurant, but we cannot recommend the restaurant because we were not satisfied with it.

That was very disappointing! We remember Giaccomos from before it closed. We were happy to see it back, so the three of us went. The outside area was busy, but there were plenty of free tables inside, so we found a seat. We were greeted warmly by a gentleman and were able to place our drink orders fairly quickly. The drinks arrived, and from then on, we were—there's no other way to describe it—ignored by the waitresses. We weren't asked if we wanted anything to eat, nor were we offered new drinks. We sat there for 1.5 hours and ended up leaving €10.30. It could easily have been €100 if they'd done their job. The surrounding tables also had to compete for the staff's attention, waving to get their attention. Paying, even after we gestured for attention, wasn't easy. Eventually, we were "allowed" to pay and leave. Conclusion: Today's Giaccomos by Dreesen unfortunately has nothing in common with the Giaccomos of yesteryear. I can't recommend a visit. But fortunately, Bonn has many other great restaurants to offer.

Ok for a quick meal, solid but very uninspired

Wir haben dieses Restaurant spontan zur Mittagszeit besucht. Der obere Innenbereich ist sehr offen und ansprechend mit Hochtischen eingerichtet. Die Fleischlasagne war sehr heiss und lecker. Die vegetarische Lasagne lecker und mächtig. Der Service aufmerksam und freundlich. Wir empfangen die Preise als angemessen. JA, wir kommen wieder!

The salad with chicken was very delicious as was the Pink Spritz 😍. The toilets can really be cleaner ☝️. Otherwise I'm happy and I'd love to come back.

Well-kept, beautifully furnished restaurant with friendly service. The food was delicious! I was amazed that there were so many vegetarian dishes on the menu. We chose the pesto offer, which was available from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and we can recommend it.

The two of us were guests in your restaurant today and ordered two starters and two main courses. Unfortunately, our visit was anything but satisfactory. The problems started when our main courses were already served, even though we had only eaten half of the starters. When we pointed out that we weren't finished yet and that the main course might get cold, the waitress seemed completely overwhelmed and at a loss. Her only answer was: “Yes, sometimes it is like that.” When we suggested that the main dishes be placed under the heat lamp in the kitchen, she finally agreed - but this process should have been managed proactively by well-trained service staff. When the main courses were served later, the fries were cold and undercooked. There was no response to this notice either. The second waitress who cleared our plates listened to the criticism, turned around without a word and left. There was no professional response. During the payment process, the first operator apologized again, but we found this to be inadequate given the multiple shortcomings. As guests who regularly eat out in Bonn, we have to say: This visit was disappointing. Neither the quality of the food nor the service were convincing and unfortunately we cannot recommend this restaurant. A return visit is out of the question for us.

Service rolled their eyes when we entered. Seemed annoyed that they had to serve us. Moscow Mule didn't taste like it had much Vodka in it. All wines 8€ for a glass seem expensive for the lackluster service. Glad I found out about the mice AFTER our visit. also glad we didn't eat there but wouldn't eat what seems like factory/ industrially made food

Very rude staff - not recommended

For a very good, affordable pasta café Giaccomo is absolutely the place to be in Bonn. The restaurant is very nice, has a small groundfloor dining area, a large terrace outside and also very nice bar area with dinning tables in the basement. I order a regular old fashion Pasta Bolognese but was surprised about the taste and quality since it felt like a real Italian, original Bolognese sauce. The meat was tender, and the pasta (linguinni) very soft. The whole food experience was absolutely perfect and I will come back again. Maybe one point of attention; when the waiter took my order, I asked for Parmezan cheese seperately which was no problem. When another, older looking, waiting served my dish there was no cheese. So, I asked for it and he seemed (and reacted) really annoyed that his other colleague probably had forgotten to mention this. My feeling was, that it was not very professional to react this way about your fellow colleague in front of the customer. Forgetting things can happen, right? So, maybe a small improvement point for this older waiter 😉 Overall, really good food for a decent price in the heart of the beautiful city of Bonn!

There were five of us for dinner. Whether patata, pinsa, salad with salmon or sirloin steak. Everything was tasty, flavorful and well prepared. The service was friendly and quick. My recommendation

We sat outside with 7 people in the evening. Service and food were good. I had the Pinsa Mediterranean, which was recommended. The visit did have one drawback, however, and that was the unclean toilets; they were probably only cleaned early in the day and then not anymore.

The three of us had dinner. Positive: It's not too crowded and there's a wide variety of food to choose from. When it comes to pasta dishes, you can freely choose the pasta, I can only recommend the spelled penne😉 The toilets are also clean. The food came relatively quickly and was warm and fresh. Unfortunately, all dishes were missing salt and pepper, which is of course a shame. The taste was still okay, but the price was a little higher.

Hier sollte man nicht hingehen, wenn man gut essen gehen will. Die Burger sind mit 19€ inkl. Pommes teuer - absolut nicht gerechtfertigt. Das Patty (welches den Burger ausmacht) ist leider sichtlich aus der Tiefkühltruhe…. Bedienung leider nicht motiviert und unfreundlich. Einige Sachen vergessen& vertauscht. Getränke ebenfalls überdurchschnittlich teuer. Wirklich keine Empfehlung !! Aus der Bar/Restaurant könnte man viel mehr machen- gute Location, gemütliche Sitzmöglichkeiten vorhanden.

I wouldn't write anything, but we and my family have eaten here several times. What we experienced tonight means we will never sit here again. First of all we waited longer than 1 hour for food, Wiener Schnitzel came completely burnt and unsalted. On the second plate there were open potatoes with chicken, the meat was completely dried out and you couldn't chew or eat it at all. The waitress was so unfriendly, when we asked whether we would receive the food soon or not, she didn't answer at all. Shows such a lack of interest, she expects a tip at the end.

Update: Now more choice on the menu, significantly improved. Unfortunately, it's no longer the Giaccomo he used to be. After years of feeding hungry guests with an almost endless menu full of delicacies until 3 years ago, the "Casbah" came into the house. There was also very tasty food here, although a smaller menu but still top quality. Now the Giaccomo has fluttered back into the house under the management of "Dreesen - Hotel & Gastronomy" (which actually has nothing to do with the Rheinhotel Dreesen), but unfortunately with a minimalist menu without the delicious pizza, without sweet potato fries and without much else. The ambience and service are still great but the food and selection has unfortunately decreased significantly. A pity.

Unfortunately, a piece of chewed gum from the previous guest remained stuck to my wooden board in the corner. When I noticed it I wanted to complain. The service staff were very busy. The first referred me to my colleague, the second was sincerely sorry. She apologized and took my food back. Unfortunately, I didn't get anything more than this apology and I was supposed to be charged the full price. Otherwise, the food at our table was okay (chilli cheese burger) to good (Pinsa), the ambience in the city center location was nice and the service was at least attentive.
