Café Ferdinands in Bad Bentheim

Delicious food and very friendly service

The café offers a wonderful ambiance on the beautiful grounds of the castle. We had great starters, although the bruschetta was a different interpretation. Everything was beautifully presented. In my opinion, the prawns could have done with a few chili flakes. But that's just my personal opinion. For the main course, I had the chili burger with truffle fries, or rather, with truffle mayonnaise and Parmesan. Unfortunately, it wasn't worth it. There was no discernible truffle flavor, and the patty was unfortunately cooked through and not pink. Otherwise, the jalapeños were pleasantly spicy. This should be in keeping with the ambiance, quality, and price in the future.

Two of us went there for dinner and were absolutely thrilled. The reservation went smoothly, and we got a lovely table overlooking the Prinzessinnengarten – a truly wonderful atmosphere. The service was very attentive, warm, and at the same time pleasantly unobtrusive. The food was excellent: We both had the asparagus burger from the seasonal menu – a real surprise – and the burrata as a starter. It was accompanied by a very well-matched rosé wine. Everything was fresh, tasteful, and lovingly presented. The restaurant's stylistically well-rounded concept, the relaxed atmosphere, and the excellent value for money made the evening perfect. A friendly host and a place we definitely recommend – we'd love to come back!

A lovely café with a stunning view. Nicely decorated in the old castle gate. However, the service is nonexistent. The café wasn't particularly busy, but three waitresses still failed to deliver any kind of message. Sometimes all three served a table, sometimes none, and people were having private conversations in the corner. We weren't asked if we wanted something to eat after ordering our drinks. Not once in the next 20 minutes did anyone come to ask if we needed anything else or if everything was okay. We ended up paying at the counter because we didn't want to wait any longer. At least we didn't feel like eating after that. At least the lemonades were pretty tasty. Unfortunately, that didn't make the overall experience any better.

We celebrated our wedding in the annex at the end of May. From the very beginning, Annalena was friendly and accommodating. 😊 The annex was a dream, totally modern, and definitely sufficient for our small group of 37 people! We were allowed to set up a tent and some small games in the garden, which was a huge hit with our guests! We were able to customize the wedding menu after consultation, and the food was amazing! 🤤 The service was fantastic, very friendly, and the guests were extremely attentive and accommodating! We couldn't have imagined anything better, and we'd like to thank the entire team!

In itself it's really great, but that was the last time I went there. We were there on a Saturday and it wasn't particularly busy. We were completely ignored. They showed us a table. After waiting for about 25 minutes and other tables that came after us being served, we decided to leave our spot and go to the café below the castle, which is also very good. That was definitely the last time I went there, although I enjoyed it.

Echt een aanrader! Lekkere dingen op de kaart van goede kwaliteit. Vriendelijk personeel. Mijn vriend en ik bestellen er altijd de primitivo en deze smaakt altijd goed.

Enjoyed a delicious lunch after a visit to the castle. We liked this so much that we ended our holiday here with dinner a few days later. Definitely recommended! In addition to the classics, very surprising dishes on the menu.

You can sit here in the sun for a drink and a snack. Beautiful view of the city and the castle in the background. The two of us shared the Flammkuchen Salmon. This was enough for two people and very tasty! The service was smooth and friendly. Small downside: I don't find the chairs outside comfortable.

We have been there several times and have always received a very friendly welcome. The service staff were always attentive and always responded directly so that you could reorder. The food always tasted very good. There's nothing to complain about here either. A clear recommendation!

Hier twee keer geweest. Lunch en diner bij dit mooie restaurant genoten. Aardig en attent personeel. Gevarieerde kaart met heerlijke, huisgemaakte gerechten. De curryworst was buitengewoon goed en de flammkuchen misschien wel de lekkerste die ik ooit gehad heb. Absoluut een aanrader!

The name "café" could be misleading, they also serve delicious burgers and other food here. Sufficient staff ensures fast service even when busy. A menu in front of the door would help and provide clarity.

Stylishly furnished. I had the vegetarian option of the grilled Halloumi burger and it was delicious. If you're in Bad Bentheim dont forget this place.

We had the opportunity to eat at this cute café-bistro located in Bad Bentheim Castle. The atmosphere was really nice and the toilets were very clean. However, we had a problem with gluten-free nutrition. It was a bit difficult for us that gluten-free options were not specified on the menu. When we consulted the waiter, they said, "Tell us what you want to eat and we will tell you whether it is gluten-free or not." We made our choice and were told it was gluten free. After the food arrived at our table, the person in charge looked at our table for a long time and saw that we still had not started eating. He came and said that the food was not actually gluten-free. This made us really sad because it can pose a serious health risk for someone with a gluten allergy. We appreciate the kind staff and nice atmosphere, but need to be more careful about gluten-free diet. This kind of precision is crucial for the safety of customers.

We went there for dinner with family. Very great atmosphere, although a bit dark to be able to read the menu. Here, however, the very friendly service brought a small table lamp and that was great. The food was very good, the portions were absolutely sufficient. Well prepared. Certainly also great in summer on the terrace with the castle in the background. In any case, it’s an experience worth having and highly recommended.

We have reserved a table. The atmosphere was super cozy. The staff very friendly and competent. The food was mega! We had tomahawk steak from Bentheimer Landschwein and a salad with chicken. We'll be back!

Whiskey tasting with several courses. The pumpkin dish wasn't really my thing, but it was beautifully prepared and the others liked it. Very tasty salmon with wasabi, fantastic (!!!) steak slices. The service was really on point, friendly and attentive. Location in the castle courtyard very stylish. Highly recommended.

Internal communication difficulties (an employee's own statement) unfortunately meant that we were unable to get a place for our Christmas dinner despite a reservation that was confirmed again by telephone three days in advance. You can certainly imagine how difficult it was to get a table at another restaurant with a group of 11 people in the run-up to Christmas. This service is really underground. We will definitely not visit the restaurant again in the future. It's a shame because the atmosphere is very nice.

Despite a reservation that was confirmed by phone, we were told upon arrival that there was no room for us. The attempt to blame us for what the employee said was poor internal communication was really a disgrace. Good service looks different.

What a surprising metamorphosis this restaurant has undergone. We were here a few years ago and it was indeed in need of a makeover. We had a delicious meal and enjoyed the view. The flamküche is highly recommended.

Delicious food! Extremely friendly staff, there was a reservation error on our side but we were still allowed to come and eat, very nice!

Great atmosphere, friendly waitress, good food. But actually a bit overpriced for my taste. I had the Asian-inspired salmon on potatoes, zucchini and mushrooms (see picture) for almost €27. After ordering our food, our table was somehow forgotten and not really served, so we left instead of ordering another drink.

Today we enjoyed our wedding anniversary here with good food and good wine. Everything was wonderful and so kudos to the kitchen team. We'll be back l.

Beautiful location, you can sit both inside and outside. The service was fine. I had delicious Asian marinated salmon myself. It tasted great, but for me too much salt was used. The same goes for the fries, which were also sprinkled with a lot of salt. Kids had chicken nuggets and flammkuchen which were also delicious and beef too

After a tour of the castle, we had a delicious lunch at Café Ferdinands. We sat on the terrace with a fantastic view and both had a delicious 'flammkuchen' (1 of which was vegetarian). The service was also top notch, friendly and very hospitable. We come more often!

The bistro/café “Ferdinands” is located directly at Bentheim Castle. From the higher outdoor terrace you have a beautiful view into the distance. The service was very attentive and friendly. The food came quickly and we enjoyed it very much. Bentheimer Kellerbier is recommended as a drink.

We went on Sept 1st on my mother's birthday. The staff was very unprofessional, rude even. "Zum trinken!!!" was the first thing she said. And not friendly at all during the process of ordering. "Zum essen!!!" Clearly does not have a clue what hospitality is about. The food was okay, but not great. We also went the next day for a drink and the waitress was a lot nicer. Maybe she could teach her a thing or two.

Super nice restaurant, nice, fast, careful service. We ordered two Aperols, but it was a shame that they had 8 ice cubes per glass, so they melted and the wonderfully prepared drink unfortunately tasted like water. When we complained to the service about the amount of ice cubes, we were told that "that would be the case so that the glass would be full." I'd rather have a half-full glass that tastes like what I ordered until the end :-)))

Café Ferdinands is a very nice and superbly located restaurant in Bad Bentheim, with an absolutely great view. After our civil wedding in Bentheim Castle, Café Ferdinands took over the champagne reception for our guests in the castle courtyard, which was extremely well implemented and organized. We then celebrated our wedding in Café Ferdinands with our guests. We are absolutely thrilled with the very good 3-course menu tailored to our individual wishes, the wonderful atmosphere we found there and the great service from the Ferdinands team. Thank you so much for rounding off our special day so wonderfully with your service. We'll definitely be back!

Always delicious food here! The service is friendly and some of them even speak Dutch. The view of the castle is also beautiful.

After a long drive to Bad Bentheim Castle, we had something to eat and drink at this beautiful restaurant. Even though we had ordered some pizza snacks and some fries, we were pleasantly surprised. The pizza snacks were freshly made and delicious, the fries were also wonderfully crispy. The service was very friendly and even though it was quite busy, the service was good and fast. The view from the terrace was also beautiful, unfortunately the weather was not good so we sat inside. A good start to then do the castle tour. :)

We sat down at Ferdinando's at 7:30 p.m. and were warmly greeted and served. Everything was great here, previously we were turned away at the "Alt Bentheim" and 15 other customers, as we could observe. Everything was great at Ferdinando's, nothing worth recommending at "Alt Bentheim".

We were a little late to tour the castle and so we had a good time at Ferdinand's...the menu is extensive, but for our taste there were no so-called dishes for small appetites. We wanted to eat something savory before eating the cake, but apart from a really large portion of French fries, there was unfortunately nothing for adults. Only larger meals such as salad plates, currywurst with fries, tarte flambée, etc. The very friendly service couldn't help us either and pointed to the boss, who wouldn't allow adults to order from the children's menu... What a shame! The cake and the coffee were delicious, and of course the ambience right next to the castle was perfect too! Ferdinand's is also impressive from the inside... Conclusion from us: first eat a little something at the local bakery and then go to the castle and then to Ferdinand's... ;)

A wonderful summer evening spent.. In a beautiful location above the roofs of Bad Bentheim, right next to the castle, with excellent food.. Complimented by courteous staff. Everything was perfect here. This is how eating out works. Thank you very much.

The view, the furnishings, the whole ambience is great. Very nice staff and food was great too. The only negative point is all the water stains on the upholstery. That doesn't fit with the overall atmosphere. Otherwise really great there

Chic restaurant located directly at the castle. From the terrace you have a wonderful view over Bad Bentheim, from the interior to the princess garden of the castle. The menu offers a wide range of international dishes. The food was very tasty.

We were very surprised about this great bistro, which is more of a “restaurant”. A restaurant you should definitely visit if you are nearby. The staff is very accommodating and you immediately feel welcome in the rooms... The kitchen spoiled us with "Ferdi's Bruschetta" as a starter... a great variation... highly recommended. For the main course we had the flank steak and asparagus ... big compliments to the kitchen here too... To top it all off, there was a great version of the men's cream.... From today on we are fans of Ferdinand's and can only recommend this "bistro" to everyone...

Restaurant or bistro directly above the outer gatehouse of Bentheim Castle. In addition to coffee and cake, there is a range of delicious dishes, ranging from a simple portion of fries and pizza rolls to unusual burgers and tarte flambée. Everything was freshly prepared and tasted extremely good, the atmosphere is also very inviting and a few smaller tables were quickly pushed together for our group (eight people). We really enjoyed it and actually we just wanted to have a coffee, but the dishes looked so delicious...😋

We were here with a group of 10 people for a birthday dinner. I have absolutely nothing to complain about. We all got our food at the same time, everyone was amazed at how delicious it was. We were even allowed to use the staff corridor as an exit because our grandmother has very limited walking abilities. The gate was even held up for us. Something like this cannot be taken for granted and deserves great recognition! Incredibly nice people work here. 🙏🏻 My brother, who struggles with severe lactose intolerances, had a bacon jam burger without cream cheese and was absolutely thrilled. He had no problems afterwards and wanted to eat there again the next day. 😊 I made the reservation a few weeks in advance by email, I received a response quickly and even a last-minute change was responded to quickly and very nicely. Thank you for an unforgettable evening. We would like to come again!

Very pleasant, modern atmosphere, unobtrusive background music, delicious and inexpensive food and nice service. More is not possible. We felt very comfortable.

Modern, cozy bistro with a large beer garden, right at the entrance to Bad Bentheim Castle. Outside there is a wonderful view of the city. Very accommodating, friendly staff. The menu is clear, from burgers to steak, tarte flambée and salad, to currywurst and a children's menu. A small recommendation: the homemade lemonade and the prosecco drink “Himmelssächter”. The food didn't meet my taste 100%. The pulled pork burger was a bit dry, both the meat and - for my taste - little sauce. The burger bun was not on the grill and therefore cold. The fries seemed heavy and older. With the Bacon Jam Burger, however, the meat was as it should be, juicy. Sufficient sauce too. Here too, the burger bun was cold. Conclusion: torn. I would still try it again with a different dish.

The Advent menu was a huge disappointment!!! The starter and dessert were ok, but the homemade roulades were a huge disappointment! There was a single small roulade, which unfortunately had no filling and was therefore very dry. I know roulades differently, they include cucumber, mustard, onion and bacon. The red cabbage was 100% a finished product. It just tasted super sweet, without the typical spices and was very mushy/slippery. Homemade looks different and definitely doesn't taste the same as what was served to me! The dumplings were also a ready-made product, they all looked identical and were completely tasteless and had a sticky consistency. For the price of EUR 36.90, it's a disgrace!!! It wasn't even nice when it was prepared. The plate looked very bland, the red cabbage and sauce melted into each other. We drove here from Lingen especially for the Advent menu and were full of anticipation. We didn't expect that we would be served convenience products! Ferdinand's was a huge disappointment, we cannot recommend it.
