As a castle fan, I really enjoyed Sunday. The stay in the restaurant was great, I can recommend it. Delicious food friendly service.

We were there for a children's birthday. The food was great. The kids had fries with nuggets and the adults had fries and schnitzel - the meat was juicy and super tender. The appointment was made well in advance, on a Wednesday. The restaurant is usually closed on a Wednesday at 5 p.m. It was open longer for us that day. Despite working overtime, the staff was super friendly and funny. The kids were also allowed to go into the large knight's hall for a birthday photo! A great restaurant if you like to eat home cooking and want to take advantage of the castle charm. Gladly again!

We spontaneously went to eat there on a Saturday. We liked it so much that we ate there again on Sunday. There is a great selection of food, all of which were delicious and the service was great. We had a really nice time in the restaurant and will definitely be happy to come back

The food: A dream. We were there twice and tried different things. Everything extremely tasty. Especially the venison bratwurst with cherries, or dark beer mead sauce... 🤤 And afterwards: A meadow orchard. 🥂😉 The service: Not just quick when served, also quick with the tongue. After a few minutes it was clear that you could do it with us: stupid jokes. We kept our bellies full with laughter. Rarely have I had so much fun eating. Thanks!

Agreements are not kept here. We had already requested a reservation for a children's birthday party months ago and everything was no problem. Now, a few weeks before the birthday, all you get is a shrug of the shoulders and the words that there is nothing left at that time. We can now celebrate the birthday somewhere else, as unfortunately we can't stop at the castle anywhere. Thank you so much for my daughter being totally disappointed now. I definitely won't spend another cent in this restaurant. The lack of commitment and indifference of people today is simply unbearable.

The restaurant is located in the middle of the old castle, which of course makes the ambience very special. The rooms are correspondingly large and the ceilings are high, so that you have enough space and are not crowded table to table. Our waiter Basti was extremely friendly and served us wonderfully, something you don't see too often these days. The food was delicious, the portions were large. All in all we were very satisfied and would come again. Thanks to Basti and his colleagues!

I've been living in Altena since last year and don't want to miss the castle restaurant! Food great! Delicious, fresh and (I think) large portions. Prices absolutely okay. Service always friendly and in a good mood! I really enjoy eating here with my husband!

The waiter walked past us for half an hour, serving everyone who came later. In the end he came up to us and said that the kitchen was closed for an hour because there were too many orders. We said that we would wait an hour, she said that the kitchen would not open again today

Table reserved, ordered for 12 people. Food came quite quickly and was tasty. Service was good. The dessert we ordered took a little too long, probably because there was a lot more going on in the meantime.

A good selection of food and friendly service, even when there are a lot of visitors, round off the visit. The food is highly recommended, especially the schnitzel with sour cream sauce. All in all, worth recommending.😃

Good home cooking, at normal prices. The service is very good and really nice. Great ambience and the view from the balcony is unique. There is also an English menu for international guests.

The two of us were in the Burg Restaurant on August 10, 2024 and ordered schnitzel. Once with mushroom sauce, once with hollandaise sauce. Both dishes with fries and mayonnaise. After a reasonable wait we were served our food. Very large schnitzels that took up half the plate and were covered with the respective sauce. Fries without mayo! I then reordered them from the waitress. Unfortunately our wish was not fulfilled until the end of the meal. The schnitzels consisted mainly of breading. The meat was flattened to a few millimeters. The main component of the schnitzel was the breading. Everything was also very greasy and rather mushy due to the sauce. The salad served as a side dish with the meal is, as is unfortunately the case in many excursion restaurants, a tragedy. I don't expect three-star food, but something like that is unreasonable, especially given the price. All in all very sobering, we won't eat there again.

Table for 6 people was reserved in advance by telephone, service orientation was clearly noticeable. We received an open and warm welcome on site, drinks and food were brought quickly despite many tables being occupied. The quality was top! We were all very satisfied and will come back.

If you appreciate regional cuisine and are looking for a special ambience, the Altena castle restaurant is the right choice.

Das Burgrestaurant Altena ist mehr als nur ein Ort zum Essen, es ist ein Erlebnis für alle Sinne. Inmitten historischer Mauern vereint es auf köstliche Weise Tradition und Moderne. Die Speisekarte ist eine wahre Einladung zur kulinarischen Entdeckungsreise: Deftige Klassiker treffen auf raffinierte Kreationen, immer zubereitet mit frischen, regionalen Zutaten. We celebrated our wedding in the castle restaurant. We had a very nice room just for us (the veranda room) 🏰 The dinner was very good and our special request for allergy sufferers was also implemented excellently 👍🏻🙂. The employees have a very personal, familiar manner that creates a relaxed atmosphere. The baked ice cream is great and you should definitely treat yourself to a cocktail or two😋🍹

Everything perfect! Very good service, fast and good German cuisine! There are also a variety of different cocktails that you won't find on every menu! During peak times there can be waiting times, but these can be excused by the quality of the food...everything is freshly prepared, the knocking of the schnitzel can be heard all the way into the restaurant!

Very unfriendly female service in the restaurant. Food was supposed to be ready in 20 minutes - after an hour to the complaint that this was a very long time with 3 children, the answer was - we are not at McDonalds here and if you could read you would have known - very rude. The quality of the food also left a lot to be desired. Guaranteed no repeat 0 stars for service if possible.

The two of us were also in the restaurant today and waited for a long time even though there wasn't much going on. When a family with small children complained about the long waiting time, we experienced an unprecedented reaction from the waitress. We have never experienced anything like this before, how brazenly and loudly the arguments with guests there are. Unfortunately, the food didn't really impress us either. It's a shame, the restaurant in the castle had potential, but please not like this!

After an hour of waiting for 4 small dishes, we received food that was completely soaked in fat. The lady at the service was very unfriendly and technically incompetent, but the gentleman was friendly. The lady argued loudly with one of the guests and then continued to complain to herself. There wasn't much going on and the dishes weren't very complicated. We were really very disappointed!

As travelers from Canada we had an incredible experience here! The food was delicious and quite reasonably priced, and our server was hilarious (after our German companions translated his jokes for us. And you're literally eating in an 900 year old castle! I would rate it higher than 5 stars if I could.

We were there during the week and were pleasantly surprised. We sat on the small outdoor terrace and enjoyed the beautiful view with delicious food. Since this was after the castle's visitor hours, we were able to drive up directly to the restaurant, which was an experience in itself. The tables in the castle courtyard also offer a great atmosphere and at completely normal prices. Important: This one legendary waiter that everyone is talking about works there.

It's for tourists, German and foreigners. It's literally a trap 😄, nowhere else to go. But no! It's not a tourist trap. It's nice, and not overpriced. Consider they use most profits for upkeep of the "Burg". So, thumbs up.

A pleasant restaurant with a terrace both inside the courtyard and outside with a view of the river. The prices are appropriate, the staff is friendly, the atmosphere is pleasant. It was a good decision to eat there and I recommend it

The service is miserable. It couldn't be worse. Given the price of the dishes, I actually assumed that the food would be brought to my table, even if we were sitting outside. However, this was not the case. When I asked directly, I got the blunt answer: You'll have to get it yourself. For me that's a reason not to go there again. I also don't know that in a restaurant you have to pay the bill before you get a drink or a meal. It was definitely too expensive for that.

We stopped by the restaurant this Sunday. We had a schnitzel Waldeslust with cream mushroom sauce.....enough mushroom!,!! and fried potato sticks......particularly tasty and no mashed potatoes. Very nice *** a small mixed salad was served with it, fresh and delicious dressing. Then we had a beef roulade with red hollow and dumplings....not bagged, really like at home, good portion and tasty. As a third meal we had schnitzel with barbecue sauce and potato croquettes, good quality and taste, with a small fresh salad. Even the mayonnaise served in sachets is a good, tasty product... Our compliments to the kitchen. We had 0.5 liters twice. Krombacher wheat beer without alcohol and once with plus a cup of coffee... which was really hot and tasted like coffee. Not necessarily a given!!! Price for it 76,- or so € Great food, good price for a really cozy restaurant that is bursting with history. We were allowed to use the terrace with a wonderful view to eat....just an insider tip all around worth friendly nice attentive but not intrusive service. Would love to come back for a small family celebration or something like that.

We were very happy with the food. In fact, we even expected smaller portions for the price. 😂 For the benefit of the customers, I would stream the radio via DAB or Internet. It doesn't make that much noise. ☺️ We'd love to come back.

Went to a packed restaurant today. Were served quickly and super friendly. The choice of food was great, we had wild boar burgers with truffles (uniquely delicious) and something vegetarian. Highly recommended is the dessert with apple crumble and vanilla ice cream. Completely satisfied. Happy to come back!

We were there for a weekend. As expected, the restaurant was well attended. But we still got a table for 7 people. Since everything is freshly cooked here we would have to wait a little longer, but what we got was worth the wait. Also a compliment to the waiters who were very funny. The ambience was a bit normal, let's say. Not special but OK. Will definitely eat there again.

We ate here for the first time today and it was very tasty, we had a really tasty nut roast and a great sour cream schnitzel and there are also unusual cocktails. Service very friendly and personable 😬

With a group of 11 people we felt very comfortable. The service was very attentive, the food was freshly prepared and very tasty. The vegetarian nut roast with ratatouille and an excellent sauce was excellent. Everyone also really enjoyed the schnitzel, the curry and the desserts. Absolute recommendation!

After a long family day, we stopped into the cozy restaurant with a beautiful castle atmosphere. The staff was very friendly to us and had fun with our children, so they felt very comfortable. We were completely welcomed as a family. There is a small play area with toys for the children. Drinks came very quickly and the children's food came first so that they could get started. We had a Schmandschnitzel and once the pork loin and dark beer mead sauce. Very tasty and good value for money. Plates were beautifully and appetizingly prepared. Service was very attentive and brought back ordered drinks and requests immediately. A very nice end to the day. When we are in the area again we will definitely come back for a wonderful and new dining experience. You can also buy little things in the restaurant to give as gifts or to use yourself. Various homemade spice salts, strawberry syrup, alpacka wool socks, honey, honeycomb soap, mead. Thank you for the lovely stay See you next time.

I had the venison bratwurst and what can I say... It was the best bratwurst I've ever had the pleasure of eating. My friend, a vegetarian, had the nut roast and is still thrilled to this day. The service is very warm and open. If we visit the castle again, the castle restaurant is something I'm particularly looking forward to. Even so

Great service, quick preparation. The food was very tasty! Lots of choice of vegetarian dishes. In summer you can also sit outside and look down into the valley. The restaurant is really worth a trip there.

We had dinner there for Valentine's Day. I thought carefully about how many stars I should give. Unfortunately I have to say that the menu didn't blow our socks off. But I have to say that I've eaten much worse, but also much better. Everything was presented very attractively and all courses of the menu were brought to us in a very pleasant manner. My rating is mainly due to the ambience, the beautiful atmosphere and the really nice and hard-working service staff. Since we have eaten at the castle several times and it always tasted good, I still give it a full 5 stars, which the restaurant team all deserve.

We were there for a candlelight dinner on Valentine's Day. It was great, from the starter to the dessert everything tasted wonderful. A very nice atmosphere and super nice service made the evening perfect. We'll definitely be back. Thank you very much 👍👍👍

Today I invited my mother and family to the castle restaurant for her birthday. We had various schnitzels and burgers. The schnitzels were excellent. Delicious sour cream sauce and pepper cream sauce. But the burgers are awesome! Not only did they look very visually stimulating, but they actually tasted very good! The restaurant promotes regional products. We tasted the difference! And eating in the middle of the castle in the appropriate atmosphere is also nice. We'll definitely come back here!

Heute das erste Mal hier gewesen als Abschluss unseres Urlaubs. Absolute Empfehlung, hervorragende Speisen, leckere Getränke und ein super netter Service. Sollten wir wieder in der Nähe sein, kommen wir auf jeden Fall wieder. Danke für den schönen Abend.

Der bestellte Wildschweinburger war klein. Auf der Karte war er mit Kroketten angekündigt, kam aber mit lieblos auf den Teller geschütteten Industrie-Schupfnudeln ohne jegliches frisches Beiwerk. Der Kellner wollte wohl kumpelhaft wirken, war aber unangemessen jovial. Er warf uns Gästen die Bierdeckel aus 2m Entfernung einfach auf den Tisch. Zu allem dann noch der Preis von 18,80€ für eine lieblos gemachte Mahlzeit. Muss ich nicht wieder hin😒 Eine Begleitung fragte aus gesundheitlichen Gründen nach veganem Essen, davon schien der Kellner noch nie etwas gehört zu haben und servierte prompt zum Dessert panierte Apfelringe mit Sahne und Milcheis.

Mein/unser Besuch im Burgrestaurant.. Ein schönes Ambiente und freundliche Bedienung.Vieleicht ein wenig überfordert , lag vielleicht auch an der Veranstaltung. Ja das Essen.. mmhh ging so .Ich hatte ein Schnitzel mit Champignons was an sich okay vom Geschmack war aber die Anzahl der Pilze in der Sauce war doch sehr überschaubar. Auch die Teller waren meiner Meinung nach lieblos angerichtet. Pommes Frites waren teilweise eiskalt . Als Garnitur nur etwas gehackter Schnittlauch finde ich kann man besser machen. Schade eigentlich 😞

Wir waren heute zum zweiten Mal in der Burg. Das Essen war beim ersten Mal schon richtig gut, jetzt zwei Jahre später sind wir wieder kugelrund und glücklich nach Hause gefahren. Preise sind vollkommen in Ordnung, die Portionsgröße ist sehr großzügig. Spontan wurde uns ein Wildburger angeboten, das war der beste Burger den ich je gegessen habe. Trüffelmajo, angemachte Kirschen, Patty von der Wildsau aus der Region, es war ein Gedicht. Der Inhaber ist sehr freundlich, man konnte sich gut unterhalten, hat oft gefragt ob alles ok sei, war dabei aber nicht aufdringlich. Der Koch kann nicht nur gut kochen, sondern ist auch als Person der sympathisch. Wir sind sehr zufrieden. Ich persönlich finde man könnte das Ambiente noch etwas „ritterlicher“ gestalten, mit passender Musik, echten Kerzen, usw. Wir werden die Burg noch öfter besichtigen und nicht nur wegen des Museums lohnt sich die Fahrt :-)

Sehr empfehlenswert! Tolles Ambiente, bequeme Stühle und wirklich gutes Essen! Mein Schnitzel mit Champion-Rahmsoße war sehr lecker, die Soße ist definitiv selbst gemacht und vorzüglich abgeschmeckt. Auch die Bratkartoffeln kann man aus meiner Sicht nicht besser machen. Es gibt sogar eine Spiel-Ecke für Kinder was in der gehobenen Gastronomie doch eher selten ist. Dazu gibt es auch ein faires Kidsmenü - lohnt sich. Wenn man nur in das Restaurant möchte, läuft man einfach in den Burghof hinein ohne an der Museumskasse anstehen zu müssen.

Das Essen war wirklich sehr lecker, aber die Fleischportionen waren etwas klein, dafür gab es umso mehr Beilagen, daher einen Stern Abzug. Der Kellner war sehr freundlich, hätte aber angesichts seiner deutlich sichtbaren Handverletzung aus Hygienegründen ruhig Handschuhe tragen können (gute Besserung an dieser Stelle!). Auch die Wartezeit war nicht unerheblich, wobei wir dafür noch Verständnis haben, weil viele Gäste da waren. Das Ambiete war super. Alles in allem finde ich 4 Sterne angemessen. Wir sind im Großen und Ganzen zufrieden.

Wir haben hier Kindergeburtstag gefeiert. Es hat allen gut gefallen und geschmeckt, auch den Vegetariern :-).

Alt aber nett doch die Kellner sind nicht so freundlich.

Der Service könnte öfters in der mittagszeit nach draußen kommen aber ansonsten ist es echt perfekt hier.

Wir haben den 60ten Hochzeitstag unserer Großeltern dort,Gefeiert und wir waren mit allem zufrieden. Essen war super, Lokation auch toll. Die Burg und das Restaurant schön Uhrig und Großes Lob an die Bedienung bzw das Team. Einzig der Rotkohl war nicht so gut trotz Handgerieben 🙈. Trotzdem macht weiter so 👍🏻

Bedienung? Ist sie vorhanden? Wenn ja ist sie mega langsam. 30 min. auf Getränke warten ist ein Witz. Essen bekommt man nicht weil die Küche überlastet ist. Lachhaft

Wir haben zu zweit das Wildgulasch mit Rotkohl und Klösen bestellt . Erstmal haben die uns Spätzle serviert die wir nicht essen können . Die Klöße haben die nachträglich zum Tisch gebracht . Die waren innen noch nicht durchgekocht. Die Sauce war wässrig. Schlechtestes essen bisher was wir im Restaurant gegessen haben ! Und dafür 50€ !!

Ein bisschen old school,aber OK.Preis in Ordnung.Die Kids Box für 8.88 Euro ist super.kleines Schnitzel, Pommes,Getränk, Spielzeug, Ballon und ein Lolli 🍭 .

Zeer goor restaurant, gooien eten op de grond, onhygiënisch personeel

Eine Kurze trink Pause im Innenhof der Historischen Burg Altena. Die Kellner hier waren sehr freundlich allerdings herrscht hier das Konzept der Selbst Abholung, was zur Stoßzeit Stau an der Theke verursacht. Nennenswerte ist noch die gut Auswahl Fruchtigen Weizenbier.

Burgerbrötchen verbrannt und dadurch auch staubtrocken. Pommes nicht wirklich gut. Man konnte es aber essen, daher noch zwei Sterne.

Sehr schön, im Burghof zu sitzen und ein Schnitzel vom Feinsten zu essen. Frisch, lecker und groß. Und nicht teuer. Gerne wieder

After we visited the castle, we decided to eat something at the site. We found the place over the google maps app, and like this we decided to grab some food here. When we entered we had the feeling we still were in the castle, it had a great and cozy feeling. When we saw the menu card we noticed that there was a big choice of schnitzels, saucages, ... We ordered a schnitzel with croquettes and meat in red wine sauce with potatoes. Only negative part is that the wait was pretty long (45min) before we got our food. The taste of the food was amazing and the food was full of flavour! For the price it was a really great place to eat! We def go back here!

Didn't go with high expectations, but boy was I amazed. In the weekend they have "Mittagessen Buffet" which had everything from soup, meat, champinions, nuddles, potatos, salat to sweets. Fair prices and attentive staff. PS: I am aware that my plate is a mix of almost everything 😂🍽️

Die Lokalität besticht natürlich durch den Burg-Charme, zumindest äußerlich! Innen eher 90er Jahre gepaart mit einer Küche die leider gekörnte Brühe nutzt (Kartoffelsuppe, nicht zu empfehlen!!!) Für ein Getränk okay, aber essen kann man woanders viel besser! Positiv anzumerken ist, dass die Schnitzel a la minute geklopft werden! Traurig aber, das nicht alles ohne Hilfsmittel gekocht wird.

Es gibt wirklich nichts zu meckern, was mir als Sauerländer echt schwer fällt. Preis/Leistung ist mehr als passend. Alles schön angerichtet, freundlicher Service... Rouladen & Co = wie bei Muttern Nachspeisen = Einsplus mit Stern

Місце гарне, видно зверху містечко, власник спочатку здався якийсь злий, пізніше щось там намагався говорити, десерт ніякий, кава така собі на смак

Waren heute (Sonntag) dort zu Gast. Unser Tisch war noch dreckig und voll mit Gläsern von den vorherigen Gästen. Es dauerte rund 10 Minuten, bis der kellner uns bemerkte und er sagte nur, dass es keine warmen Speisen mehr gäbe. Nun gut, aber wir wollten eh nur einen Kaffee trinken. Nachdem er uns die Karte versprach ist er wieder verschwunden. Vom Tisch hat er nur die Getränke genommen, den Dreck hat er nicht weg gewischt. Nach weiteren 10 Minuten ohne Speisekarte hatten wir genug und sind anderswo einen Kaffee trinken gegangen.
