Bullerjahn in Göttingen

Since Restaurant Bullerjahn deleted my last review without comment from Google due to defamation, I would now like to take this opportunity, after careful consideration and profound reflection, to distance myself from my previous opinion and formally apologize to the restaurant owners. To remind you of the odious words I once used about my visit to Restaurant Bullerjahn, here is the (now deleted) review again in full: "★★ The price/performance ratio is barely adequate, the service was rather careless, and the food was quite cold. Service type: Dine-in Type of meal: Dinner Price per person: €20–30" I would like to make it absolutely clear at this point that I distance myself as much as possible from this review, which a less mature and experienced version of myself wrote in the past out of pure resentment. ``` I had no idea what disastrous consequences such a slanderous and poisonous review could have for the Bullerjahn Restaurant, which I have come to hold in high esteem. Furthermore, I would like to thank the restaurant's owners for not pursuing legal action in the face of such baseless and malicious defamation and simply instructing Google to delete the review. I also understand that you didn't contact me beforehand; if you were me, my anger would have been too great for clear and clarifying words. Finally, I would like to take the liberty of amending my last review (which has since been deleted on behalf of the restaurant) to reflect my newfound and deep respect for the establishment: The price/performance ratio is perfect, WITHOUT COMPROMISES, the waiters were more like demigods walking on earth, and the food was ABSOLUTELY TOP-NOTCH. Out of sheer shame, however, I will never go there again.

The food was delicious, congratulations to the kitchen, and the beer was tasty too. The staff was friendly. The absolute highlight, however, is the view of the vaulted cellar. It's simply wonderful to be able to stay in such a historic building. Unfortunately, many people may not be fully aware of this.

The food was mediocre, actually bad for the price. Service was unfriendly, and criticism was handled with no response at all, neither apologies nor any corrections. The service was barely present, and we forgot our drink orders. Despite the nice ambiance, we won't be coming back.

The roulade for €22.90 was tough. The service was very friendly, though. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it.

We went to the Bullerjahn for a business lunch with some foreign guests. The selection was good, the service was super friendly, and the food was delicious. We particularly enjoyed the beer tasting. A definite "like," and we'll be back!

Went there for a quick beer tasting, but unfortunately, all five beers arrived at the table not exactly cold. However, a freshly ordered wheat beer was nice and cold and delicious. Watch the temperature, and otherwise, send it back. Service was very friendly—the location is also great.

Our visit was unfortunately a bit disappointing. It started with the waiter not smiling when greeting us, and we felt completely overwhelmed when assigning a table in the large room. Barbecue utensils and gas bottles were lined up in the hallway, as if it were a storage room. The waiter burned himself on a candle while putting down glasses. A dismal birthday greeting from the waiter. The food was a little too underwhelming for the location... Dry schnitzel with fries and cucumber salad, and a drop of cranberries. Unimaginative. The food we wanted was unfortunately out of stock. Wine was served in a plastic bag for cooling, with water in it, and the cold water dripped over the food when you poured it in. Not nice either. Overall, a great location, but the food definitely has room for improvement.

We were at this restaurant with 14 people and had expected much more. The food itself was disappointing: The schnitzel was extremely thin and tough, and the ox cheeks, which are normally lean, consisted almost entirely of fat. Truly borderline. After complaining about these, we ordered different food. However, it took 30 to 45 minutes to arrive. Other tables that had ordered much later were served before us. The waiter barely paid any attention to us and even became rude at the end. The restaurant was not even half full; you really wonder what it's like when it's full. For a 4.3-star rating, we had expected much more. Unfortunately, I absolutely do not recommend it.

We came here for dinner today with 14 people. However, the restaurant was not to our satisfaction. The food was okay, nothing special. The price was generally unjustified for the portion size. We ordered two portions of ox cheeks, and the meat consisted mostly of fat – an absolute disgrace. We then returned the food and ordered more; it took almost an hour. Since everyone else had already finished eating, we wanted to cancel the meal so we could leave. The manager then came over to us without apologizing and offered to give us the food for free or throw it away. After this incident, the service was very unfriendly. I would not visit this restaurant again and would not recommend it to anyone.

It's okay but not something I would recommend!!!

We went there last Saturday for dinner with four people. We chose the restaurant based on the many positive reviews. So we sat outside. The waiter came to bring us our menus. Shortly after, we made our decision. Drinks: 1 small beer, 1 rhubarb spritzer, 1 water, 1 Aperol. We also ordered food right away. 1 burger, 1 hunter's schnitzel, 1 lumberjack steak, 1 baked potato with quark and salmon. Sooooo... after 40 minutes and noticing that other tables that were occupied later had already ordered, I asked for our order. This waiter didn't know anything. So the head waiter came. He noted our displeasure and wanted to take care of it. 10 minutes later, the burger and schnitzel arrived. Another 7 minutes later, the lumberjack steak arrived. And we were told that the salmon with the potatoes was out. They were supposed to serve chicken with it. We declined. You have to think about that...I think that's pretty bad. Yeah, yeah...only now did the drinks arrive. Instead of a small beer, there was a large one. The Aperol was so thin...you could have easily eaten 10. The burger was okay. The schnitzel was okay. The lumberjack dish was more reminiscent of dry shoe soles than juicy meat. If that's standard there, as our friends later told us...then I don't understand the positive reviews. We certainly won't be going back. Enjoy your meal.

We waited more than an hour for the food

A full 5 stars from me! The ambiance is inviting, and the service is very courteous and attentive. The dishes are seasonally adapted and served promptly and in generous portions, hot. I haven't been disappointed on any of my visits. I'll be back!

We were there for lunch on August 27th, just the two of us, and sat outside. The food arrived quickly, about 20 minutes. Everything was delicious and appetizingly presented! The server was very friendly and accommodating! We will definitely be back!

German cuisine with a somewhat contemporary twist, but still very meat-heavy. The tarte flambée was good, and they have several draft beers, which you can also get on a tasting board. Nice location and good service.

I spontaneously went out to eat on the terrace and ordered schnitzel. I'm very skeptical because I only eat schnitzel in Austria. But it was fantastic, so fresh, crispy and wafer-thin, and everything was superbly seasoned. It was like a short vacation in Austria; I'll be back. And €19 is totally fine; you pay more for schnitzel everywhere.

Excellent food, very friendly and attentive service, and a truly lovely ambiance. All the dishes were exceptionally well-presented and perfectly cooked. We'd happily return!

Everyone thinks of it as a great place, sure the ambience and hosts are wonderful but not the taste of food, and I speak as an international who is new to German food!

We were visiting Göttingen today. We had lunch at the Bullerjahn. We had a very good meal, and the service was very attentive. The ambiance is also very nice. Everything is very clean and comfortable. We would gladly come back.

The service was warm, attentive, and pleasantly uncomplicated. The drinks were great, everything ran smoothly and relaxed, allowing us to fully concentrate on our guests and the special moment. A huge thank you to the entire team – you helped make our wedding day unforgettable!

The tables were dirty, and drinks were simply taken away even if they weren't empty. The wait for drinks took 30 minutes. The men's restrooms weren't clean.

I was in Göttingen on business and had lunch at Bullerjahn, so I gave it a second chance. Unfortunately, it was an even bigger disappointment, because the shrimp pan was returned lukewarm three times. The question that comes to mind is whether this is a chef who knows his craft, or what industry he comes from. Is it service staff or just waitressing? That's the question here, because arguing with the customer about whether it's hot or lukewarm when you can touch a cast-iron pan is definitely not hot. Luckily, the Coke was cold. They could do a lot more with this place, and above all, hire a chef who loves cooking and does it with passion.

We had the beef burger and the councilman's pan. The burger was really tasty, but it wouldn't have filled a man. The councilman's pan is one of the most expensive dishes on the menu and not worth the money. It tastes great, but the piece of pork was ridiculously small and eaten in two bites. The amount of fried potatoes was also very small. The waitress didn't bring Majo's second order, and they didn't bring our second drink either. There was no follow-up question about how we liked the food. It's not a restaurant we would go to again.

Sorry guys, you have a café in the "Forum Wissen" museum and you're charging €3.50 for a Kinder Cactus ice cream. That's extortionate and simply outrageous.

I've never eaten such a dry baked potato; even my mother-in-law can do better! Even the tiny portion of herb curd doesn't help. You pay €7 extra for two slices of salmon. You can't really go wrong with fries either; in this restaurant, they even manage to forget to season them. The burger also came with sugary bucket-sized coleslaw, which was typical of the house. Furthermore, instead of a "light" beer, we were served a wheat beer, and when we pointed out that we hadn't ordered it, they ignored it. We would have liked to give personal feedback, but no inquiries about our satisfaction were forthcoming. Conclusion: €50 for two bad meals and one bad drink. You can do it, but you don't have to.

Top! The person who served us deserved more than 5 stars. We were there for several hours and felt very comfortable.

I went there for lunch with my girlfriend. We ordered homemade lemonade. We were a bit disappointed: elderflower-lemon syrup with dried lemon slices. I think these are part of the Christmas decorations. Fresh lemon would have been better in my opinion. I ordered baked potatoes with potato salad, remoulade, and cranberry dip. The cucumbers on the salad were unfortunately very thickly sliced ​​and very hard. The salad was tasty. The remoulade and dip were unfortunately not homemade, and the chicken tasted good, but unfortunately it wasn't boned properly. Biting into gristle is not nice. Perhaps a little more care should be taken in the preparation and fresh, regional products used. Homemade remoulade is not rocket science and is quick to make.

It's a shame we ate at Bullerjahn again today after a long time. Wiener Schnitzel with Fries The fries were crispy but unfortunately over-fried. The meat was in a breading that was half empty. I doubt the veal was fresh. It was miles away from a very good Wiener Schnitzel. The cucumber and sour cream salad as a side dish was very good. Hänschen Schnitzel with Fried Eggs The schnitzel came with two fried eggs. The schnitzel itself was dry, and I would classify it as good frozen meat. Side dishes as above. For the price, it's on the level of a snack bar. Unfortunately, the quality isn't appropriate for the location. Service from the staff was excellent.

The table for nine people, which we had pre-booked for lunch, was hastily and somewhat carelessly pushed together upon our arrival. The service was friendly but slow. The wait times, especially for the food, were relatively long. The mixed starters were tasty, but ridiculous for the price. The main courses were mediocre, with three dishes missing and only arriving at the table after everyone else had finished eating. To make matters worse, the salmon that was ordered later was still raw. Even the side salad and the free espresso couldn't improve the overall poor impression. We cannot recommend the Bullerjahn.

The roulade for €22.90 was so tough that it couldn't be cut even with a steak knife, which was brought after a complaint. The service was very friendly, though, and you could see she was embarrassed. The schnitzel had no seasoning on the meat. So, unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it.

The ambiance inside is fantastic. It's really well done. You can sit and enjoy the atmosphere in front of the Bullerjahn in the heart of the city. We had an excellent meal here and were well looked after.

The menu is varied. The waffle iron is often broken, and waffles are then unavailable.

The food here was delicious and not your run-of-the-mill cuisine. The service, however, was unfortunately really poor. The starter arrived before the drinks were even served. Then, not once was there a question as to whether we had any further requests or whether everything was okay. The wrong schnapps was served and the espresso came carelessly without sugar or biscuits. When we made our reservation online (there is a special field where you can select the reason for your visit), we stated that two people we were coming with had birthdays that day. This was initially ignored, and after asking twice, we were told that the restaurant didn't have anything special for birthday guests. We weren't even congratulated then. So why should you state the occasion online if the reason for your visit is irrelevant and will be ignored anyway? Unfortunately, we won't be visiting this restaurant again in the near future. A real shame.

€60 for lunch – with mayo from a tube! Yesterday, three of us spontaneously stopped by Bullerjahn – the lunch menu sounded like a good deal. We ordered fish in beer batter and two Margherita pizzas with extra salami. The highlight: For four wafer-thin slices of salami per pizza, we had to pay an extra €3 each – presumably hand-smoothed, otherwise the price is hard to explain. The remoulade with the fish? Definitely Hellmann's from a tube. I would have expected a homemade product here! Bottom line: €60 for three people! That was more of a very fancy lunch than a supposedly cheap side trip. You don't even want to know what dinner costs.

A great atmosphere. We were sitting outside, but the walk to the restroom offered a view of the vaulted ceiling. Very nice, and the restrooms were also very tidy. Plenty of space outside. Unfortunately, service was slow. After more than 25 minutes, we were allowed to order drinks and food. Accordingly, the food didn't arrive for an hour. It was moderately busy, and four waiters were milling around. A shame. They quickly provided a high chair, and apparently also a children's menu, but we didn't bother. We ordered: - Tarte flambée with asparagus: overall very tasty. Unfortunately, there was a bit less of the homemade hollandaise sauce and too much green asparagus instead of white. The ham was very tasty. Göttingen Pils was good. - Ox cheeks with spinach dumplings: very tasty and tender meat with a great sauce. The dumplings, unfortunately, were very dry and not at all juicy. The non-alcoholic Alster was also good. - Burger: Unfortunately, compared to many other burger places in town, it wasn't well received. Fries were good. We'd be happy to come back.

The food also seemed like ready-made food, was cold and was far too expensive for the amount you got. The price-performance ratio is therefore not appropriate. We were there spontaneously to eat, but sat outside because the weather was so nice. Luckily, we were able to admire the interior on the way to the ceramics department and also took quick pictures of the separate "Scharwache" room! Everything, absolutely everything was great! The atmosphere is beautiful! The people are quick, friendly, the food is super tasty, and the bread with dip is also a great thing! The price was completely reasonable! We will definitely come back because Göttingen is a great city!

Went to “Your vote counts!” with my girlfriend. I didn't eat anything, just sang. Unfortunately there were only dry wines on offer but no semi-dry wines - my God, what am I supposed to do with a dry wine WITHOUT food! The acoustics were bad and unfortunately the projected lyrics could not be seen by all singers. And I don't like "Grandmas against the right", even if they sing. My girlfriend and I still had fun and we met nice people with whom we also arranged to meet at the next singing event.

As an idea for next time: The television with the text on the far right (with a view of the bar) was unfortunately a bit inconvenient, with two thick candlesticks in the way. Maybe a little further to the right? And ABBA in the knowledge forum would be great!

We were there on a Saturday evening. Food had been pre-ordered and was already set when we arrived. So we were able to sit down straight away with over 20 people. After a short time, our drink requests were accepted and the food was served shortly afterwards. Everything went to our complete satisfaction. The food was delicious, the prices were okay and the ambience was good too. Gladly again.

I was there for a business lunch. Unfortunately I can't say anything about the prices because I didn't have to pay anything. Ambience is beautiful, looks luxurious. Has a nice flair. The potato leek soup was very well seasoned. The main course was the Bullerjahn burger with rustic fries. Burger very good patti really lots of meat. Brioch bun tasted amazing. The fries were great. Dessert was waffles with cherries and ice cream. Delicious. Waffle freshly made and crispy/warm. I'd love to come back.

I was here for dinner today and the food was excellent. I'd gladly return, as our dog was also warmly welcomed.

German restaurant, very friendly service

Expandable! Were there before 6 p.m. and there was actually very little going on. Still a long wait to even get drinks. You need a card, no question about whether you want something to drink. Staff tried hard, but easily overwhelmed. Problems with the order. Tables that were occupied significantly later could then order earlier and receive their food earlier. Overall, it was cold throughout the entire restaurant; my wife and a few other guests had left their jackets on. The food was pretty good. The meat was pretty much cooked to death. Fried potatoes and vegetables delicious. The prices are quite sporty.

On Thursday we went to “Göttingen singt” with Christiane Eiben + Markus Gahlen. It was a very nice event. The atmosphere was great, the mood was great from the start. Would like to do events like this more often. The staff was plentiful and served quickly despite the many guests. The food was also very tasty. Keep it up...

We were registered with a larger group. Overall, the location was very nice and the food was delicious. However, the portions are very manageable for the price. The waitresses were an absolute no go: Inattentive, sometimes unfriendly, overwhelmed and annoyed. Probably all temporary staff without feeling for the guest and motivation to generate sales. That's really a shame because we don't need to visit again and therefore can't recommend the restaurant.

We came here spontaneously and immediately felt at home. The ambience is very successful, the seating is pleasant and the service is very attentive and friendly. We also really enjoyed the food and our special request for a slightly spicier currywurst was fulfilled. We will be happy to come here again on our next visit to Göttingen. Clean restaurant with high standards and corresponding prices. The friendly staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. Instead of fried potatoes as a side dish, you couldn't choose fries as that would mess up the kitchen. Cutlery not provided and then different fork sizes. The sauce was a bit bland. Either make lower prices for the food or meet the demands with appropriate service and food quality. Wouldn't eat there again.

Currywurst was OK. Vegetarian spaetzle pan was lukewarm at best and tasted like frozen ready-made food. Pancakes for dessert were tough. Conclusion: Ambiance and service good. Eating lovelessly. Hope it was just a bad day.

In itself a very nice restaurant but the service was not well organized and unfortunately one waitress insulted us. My food was delicious but unfortunately some of my colleagues didn't like it so much and it was way too expensive for that.

Went there for Christmas brunch with the family. Very stylish and comfortably decorated. The buffet offers all kinds of dishes to suit every taste. Everything was absolutely delicious and the service was very friendly. We are completely satisfied. Thank you for everything

Just 3 points… we had to order from the group menu. Offers from the normal menu were not possible - not even changes within the group menu such as schnitzel with fried potatoes instead of fries. It didn't work - no criticism of the service but there was zero flexibility here. Unfortunately, beer roulade was very tough and dry. Dumpling and red cabbage were good, unfortunately not enough. Oh and light beer is served in Pilsner glasses - despite the warning. That was the last time

Our Christmas party was in this restaurant on December 6th, 2024 and we were completely satisfied! The food was absolutely delicious and creatively prepared - we were impressed by every course. The ambience was festive and very inviting, perfect for a Christmas party. Particularly noteworthy is the excellent service: the staff was extremely friendly, very attentive and helped to make the hours we spent together unforgettable for us. We would be happy to come back and can recommend the restaurant without reservation!

We drank coffee there today. The apple strudel was very cold inside, as if an attempt had been made to defrost it from frozen. The chairs, on the bench and under the table were all full of crumbs. Today I had breakfast with 5 people. We were 5 people and the staff was perfect. The coffee came, but breakfast came after an hour and then not even completely. The bacon was missing from one egg, we were told we didn't know where it was missing, so we put it on another dish. The rolls were frozen and hard. Here we got the statement, I don't work in the kitchen. With a breakfast for 5 people for €115.00 you can expect quality and service. We weren't the only guests who had these problems. It was the 2nd Advent, apart from a candle on the table, no decorations, you didn't notice it.

Such a beautiful place in the busy Christmas season... There were two of us and all tables were reserved and occupied without exception. Nevertheless, the staff managed to organize a wonderful, quiet place for us in the modern yet cozy, Christmas-decorated, great atmosphere. We ate and drank very deliciously and can only say thank you for the lovely evening and the great service.
