December 25, 2025 Unfortunately, I made the mistake of ordering something from the lunch menu. I was expecting a small portion (15 euros), but the taste was practically nonexistent. The pork loin tasted like something you'd eat underwater in a swimming pool. Sorry, but my order was borderline unacceptable in terms of taste. :(

So, overall we were rather disappointed. We wanted to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had never been there before. When we arrived, we were led into a dark private room without any explanation as to why, what it was, or its historical significance, etc. I immediately felt trapped and spent the whole evening craning my neck trying to look out. No one could tell us anything about its history, not even when we asked. The hot food was generally good. The meat was delicious. The mashed potatoes were rich, the red cabbage too sweet but okay. The "cheese platter" was something the server couldn't even tell us what was on the plate. From that point on, I found the service really poor. You're supposed to know these things. One cheese tasted of absolutely nothing, another tasted like Aldi's cream cheese, and I can't remember the third one, nor that it was supposed to have butter on it; I've never seen it like that before. The wine was fantastic, the beer was just beer. It's a shame overall that so little is explained in such a historic place and the servers don't seem to know what they're serving. It's also annoying that there seem to be 20 servers... Next time we'll try a different restaurant. It needs to be better for the 20th anniversary!

The food was disastrous. The chicken soup, for almost €8, served in a tiny tureen, was inedible—a mere centimeter of oil on top, followed by shredded chicken and finely chopped vegetables; the broth was tasteless. It came with a colorless, soggy, pre-baked bread roll. The Labskaus (a traditional North German dish) for €19.50 was not only tasteless but also lacked a pickle. The fried potatoes with a fried egg for €15.50 were swimming in oil and over-seasoned. It's a shame—it used to be nice, but now the tables are shabby, and some of the cutlery is dirty, having been handled by the people sitting at the next table.

Based on the relatively good reviews, we ate at the Bremen Ratskeller today. We'd like to commend the truly friendly service. The food, however, was simply bad. The fish was dry and buried under a heavy sauce. Our second attempt, with herring fillets (with mayonnaise sauce) and deep-fried spinach dumplings, unfortunately didn't redeem it either. Not recommended – sadly.

Extremely disappointing – discriminatory behavior at the Ratskeller stand Yesterday evening, five of us (all women) were at the Christmas market in the market square, opposite the wine shop, wanting to treat ourselves to some mulled wine before our Christmas dinner. What we experienced there was deeply disappointing and shameful. My colleague and I, both of southern European appearance, dutifully joined the queue. We were served by a heavily built man who displayed a very unpleasant, unfriendly, and at times even aggressive demeanor towards customers. I work in retail myself, even in full-service retail, and I can easily recognize when employees adopt a passive-aggressive and disrespectful attitude towards customers. We waited in line for about 15 minutes and were consistently ignored. During this time, only customers who appeared German were served. Customers with a clearly foreign appearance had to wait. This became particularly evident when a German woman who arrived after us was again given priority and served before us. After politely reminding the employee several times that it was our turn, I finally addressed him directly. His reaction was dismissive and disrespectful. He literally said to us: "Hurry up, you're holding up the line." He had previously claimed to be serving "in order," which was demonstrably false. This behavior was not only impolite but clearly discriminatory. What is particularly troubling is that several eyewitnesses were present, including my colleagues, and we independently observed and described the exact same behavior without discussing it beforehand. Especially during the Christmas season, in a market that should stand for peace, community, and cultural openness, such behavior is absolutely unacceptable. We live and work here, pay our taxes like everyone else, and expect nothing more than respect and equal treatment. I cannot imagine that the Ratskeller condones such behavior. I sincerely hope this incident is taken seriously and that a thorough discussion is held with the employee involved to prevent a recurrence. Edona

We went there for the second time today. My husband ordered kale, and I ordered hake fillet. Our food was delicious, and the service was very friendly and excellent. We'll be back! 💕

A visit in December 2025 showed me that, thankfully, there are still restaurants that understand food and drink as a part of culture. Excellent, traditional dishes with a regional touch, a wide selection of drinks, especially wines, and people at the neighboring tables who, like me, clearly have no desire to consume an overabundance of pizza and kebabs every day. My new favorite spot in Bremen.

One of the best spots in Bremen for lunch or dinner. Their menu is full of German classics with a touch of Nordic tastes. All dishes were amazing but the mushroom soup was the best. The place also has a lovely atmosphere.

We went for a candlelit dinner. It was absolutely lovely. Our waiter was very attentive and fulfilled our every wish.

When do the people of Bremen go to the Ratskeller? Either with out-of-town guests or once in a blue moon. My husband and I, however, had no reason to celebrate yesterday! Our lunch was okay, nothing less, but certainly nothing more. What was particularly unpleasant was that two ugly "food service robots," with their gray plastic containers holding used dishes and cutlery, were located right next to our table. Even worse, there was an open trough next to them where food scraps were disposed of before the dishes were placed in the robots. At home, I take dirty dishes to the kitchen and dispose of them there as well. The restaurant was absolutely packed at lunchtime yesterday, and there were very few staff members available for the large number of guests. However, they were working like crazy and still trying their best to meet the guests' needs – no one could possibly do more than that. This, the historic ambiance, and a touch of "Bremen nostalgia" are what just barely save the Ratskeller from receiving its fourth star. We'll definitely be back in a few years!

For traditional Bremen cuisine, this is a must-see. It's atmospheric, cozy, and delicious. It's popular with both locals and tourists. It's very central, and history permeates every table and wall.

Unfortunately, only one star for the food! I had Bremen-style pan-fried fish with fried potatoes swimming in oil and a mush—what was it? Root vegetables?! All for the exorbitant price of around €23?! The value for money is completely off! It's cafeteria food at its finest! I'm very disappointed! Four stars, however, for the location and the good service!

The ambiance suggests a grand cinematic experience. We received our drinks very quickly and with great friendliness. But a minute later, the food arrived... venison goulash and Labskaus (a traditional North German dish). The taste and presentation were more reminiscent of a cafeteria. There were stands with cutlery on the table, which I also don't expect in a fine-dining establishment. It's geared more towards tourists... a shame, given the lovely atmosphere.

I ordered #60, duck plate. It was one of the recommendations from the weitgher. I really disappointed. We can find much much better food at Food Court if we paid the same. I will not come back here.

After visiting the Christmas market, we stopped there for a meal. We received a friendly welcome and were shown to our table. The atmosphere is lovely, the service is attentive, and the food was delicious. We were surprised by how quickly it was served. It's well worth a visit, although as a driver, I unfortunately couldn't sample the extensive wine selection.

Unfortunately, we didn't find what we were hoping for: a very strong smell of meat and sauce upon arrival, tired and sullen staff, a head waiter who didn't provide clear menu information, and the result: tasteless food we were forced to eat without liking, a lackluster wine, and a dinner that ended unhappily. It's a restaurant we often hear about, but in reality, we didn't like at all.

We didn't eat there, but we did participate in an excellent guided tour of the wine cellar, including a wine tasting. The tour was led by a very knowledgeable and friendly woman. The wine tasted fantastic.

The steak was perfect, and the price-performance ratio was good. The atmosphere is, as one would expect in a traditional German restaurant, quaintly cozy, and the staff is very friendly without being pushy. Only one drawback: People from Bremen seriously think Beck's is beer…

I ordered set meal number 70. After all, I was in a fishing port city, so it would be nice to have a local classic dish. I thought the fried food would make me sick of it before I even finished half of it, but the salty and mild flavor, paired with beer, made me finish the whole plate. Overall, it was pretty good.

A good Ratskeller (traditional Austrian restaurant). The service staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The drinks and food arrived very quickly, perhaps a little too quickly. I ordered a hot chocolate, and two minutes later the pumpkin cream soup arrived. So I didn't even get to enjoy my hot chocolate. The pumpkin cream soup was delicious, as were the Königsberger Klopse (meatballs) and the half duck with cherry red cabbage. What I didn't like so much were the potatoes served with the Königsberger Klopse and the dumplings with the half duck. Both were still very firm and dry. I'm no chef, but I think they weren't fully cooked. The main course, however, was very tasty, and the duck skin was crispy. The ladies' restroom was easy to find, but for the men, another guest and I had to search and ask for it. In the end, it was right next to the entrance/exit stairs.

Hello, I was at the Ratskeller restaurant in Bremen this evening with colleagues. Like two of my colleagues, I ordered the rump steak with fried potatoes and salad. After a reasonable wait, we received our food. After just a few cuts, I noticed that the rump steak was riddled with tendons and cartilage. My colleagues' steaks were the same. We pointed out the poor quality to the waiter, who told us that the meat quality wasn't optimal at the moment. I'm surprised that the rump steak is still on the menu then. Is the restaurant deliberately accepting this dissatisfaction? We were offered a drink as compensation, which we declined. The waiter then offered us ice cream, but only for two people; a third was refused. The quality of the ice cream was marred by cheap whipped cream. As for the restaurant itself, it was quite full this evening, resulting in a high noise level, and it was uncomfortably warm inside the Ratskeller. Overall, the visit was a disappointment, and the staff's comments sealed the deal. Perhaps the restaurant owner would like to comment on the review.

The best vegan dish I've ever eaten. Perfectly balanced. Best and very fresh ingredients. Highly recommended.

The restaurant is located in the touristic center of Bremen and feels like a typical tourist spot. We had the pan-fried fish, duck, and beer. The pan-fried fish was too oily and tasted as if the oil had been used several times, while the duck was quite good in comparison. The beer was good, as it usually is everywhere in Germany.

I ordered the following: traditional Seemannslabskaus (seaman's labskaus) made with cured ox breast and mashed potatoes with rollmops, two fried eggs, beetroot, and mustard pickles. The dish tasted really good, even though it didn't look that delicious (that's the first impression!). Attentive staff and a really nice location.

We had a really lovely evening here with a larger group (10 people)! Unlike many other Ratskeller restaurants, this one has slightly higher ceilings and isn't as loud when there are lots of people. We received very courteous and friendly service throughout the entire evening. Special requests were accommodated without any problems. The food was extremely delicious, and the menu is designed to ensure there's something for everyone. We stayed until shortly before closing and would love to come back again!

Highly recommended! If you like tradition, you'll love it. The restaurant is hard to beat in all its facets – be it the food, the service, or the ambiance. You just have to be careful not to be sensitive to noise. Before dinner, we, the German Association of Flooring Systems, took part in a cellar tour. Many of our association members come from wine-growing regions, so this tour was a MUST and was very well received by all participants. High praise for the cellar tour. Fresh from our square-side lunch at Jon Benton's—still buzzing from that Knipp revelation—we couldn't resist capping off our Bremen whirlwind with the wine tour at Bremer Ratskeller. Tucked beneath the restaurant and the very heartbeat of the Marktplatz (right alongside those mischievous Town Musicians statues), this wasn't just a tasting; it was a three-hour plunge into a subterranean wonderland of history and hallowed hooch that left us tipsy on stories as much as sips. Our guide, Guido, was the unsung hero— not only incredibly knowledgeable about every oak-aged nuance and medieval murmur, but a saint with saintly patience for our broken German stutters. He pivoted seamlessly to English explanations, painting vivid pictures of Bremen's boozy past with the flair of a storyteller who'd lived it. We meandered through expansive, vaulted cellars that felt like stepping into a Gothic novel—cool stone arches whispering of feasts for burghers and bishops, the air thick with the earthy perfume of centuries-spent barrels. Five glasses of fine German wines punctuated the journey like plot twists: crisp Rieslings that danced on the tongue, bold Spätburgunders with silken depth, each pour a toast to regions we'd yet to conquer. But the grand finale? A descent into the most special "vault" imaginable, home to the oldest known 1,000-liter keg—dated smack to 1653, its weathered oak a time capsule of resilience and revelry. Touching that relic, feeling the history pulse through the wood... it was palpable, profound, like brushing elbows with ghosts of grape-crushing glory. Well worth every minute (and euro)—this tour elevates a casual cellar crawl into an epic. Quite good, comfortable, a bit expensive

The place itself is very nice, with a welcoming atmosphere. The only major problem, besides the cold inhospitality of the staff and their inability to even offer a valid recommendation on their menu, is that almost everything served has a strange taste that's hard to imagine from what's listed on the menu. I'll add an important note: after our first order, we asked for a little bread. Too bad that not only was it taken away without asking if we were actually finished, but when we got the bill, we discovered that the bread (half a loaf and a slice of stale rye bread) was the modest price of 3 euros. Practically a rip-off, especially considering we didn't even get to finish it.

We went to the Ratskeller Bremen with a tour group – never again! At our very first dinner, our disabled fellow travelers were treated rudely by staff when they tried to use the promised elevator. People over 80 had to climb over crates, were shouted at, and even pushed out of the elevator – simply disrespectful! The food was unloving and seemed like mass processing: three dishes to choose from, soup and dessert the same for everyone. My plaice fillet was almost just a hard coating, the fried potatoes dripping with fat – inedible. The service was only moderately friendly, and the food came much too quickly, as if they wanted to get rid of us immediately. A sad and disappointing experience – absolutely not recommended!

I ate there for the first time on October 3, 2025. The ambiance is very nice, as you'd expect from a Ratskeller (town cellar). The large barrels dominate the interior, while the small private rooms, in contrast, really complete the cellar atmosphere. We didn't have a reservation, which was immediately apparent to the seater. We were grumpily seated at a larger table. The service seemed to be having a bad day across the board. No smile, not attentive, noticeably unfriendly, simply unprofessional. The food was absolutely average. The Knipp (knipp) was an unappetizing flatbread, sized to fill even the Hulk. The food was bland and tasteless. The only beer available was Becks (honestly: Becks is Becks, compare it to Unionsbier, a dump). Subtle, very unpleasant smells rounded off the negative impression. Partly from the metal plates on which the food was served, partly from the table, which smelled as if it had just been wiped with a 100-year-old rag. So, I won't be eating here again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The restaurant is beautifully located, but unfortunately, the service isn't up to scratch. There are better options nearby.

My wife, our almost 1 1/2-year-old daughter, and I had dinner today on the first day (October 3, 2025) of our Bremen vacation at the Bremer Ratskeller (which is part of the Bremen Town Hall World Heritage Site). The atmosphere is very pleasant and relaxed, and there's plenty of space in the many rooms. Our daughter's need for exercise didn't bother any of the guests or staff. There was a highchair, and the service staff took great care of the three of us! My wife had the salmon fillet with the seasonal pumpkin risotto, which was beautifully presented and delicious! My grilled turkey steak was beautifully grilled and very tender! Both main courses are highly recommended, and the price-performance ratio is absolutely perfect. Starter: Chicken broth – chicken and fat with hot water. Really cheeky for €9. The bread with the crackling lard was from a discount store. The lard was good. The main courses had old fries that had been thrown into the fryer twice. The food arrived quickly. The service wasn't unfriendly. But you'd expect professionals in a place like this.

On the large terrace in nice weather! Eating the most delicious herring, home-style! With that, a non-alcoholic beer! For me: absolutely perfect!

A wonderfully period-style room with a small side alcove for five people. A member of staff was happy to take photos. My impression of the food was more like tourist fare. My Labskaus was satisfactory, but the prices were reasonable. The location and ambiance were okay, but not cheap. We had a reservation, so there was no wait.

I highly recommend this restaurant. The food was served quickly and was delicious. The prices were also reasonable, albeit a bit on the high side. The only minor criticism would be the service, which missed us a few times, and we unfortunately had to wait a long time for our second round of drinks. The ambiance is very nice and cozy. It's worth making a reservation! We were there on a Wednesday evening (after 8 p.m.) and it was packed.

Interesting old cellar, but too much noise, and the food was very fat

Warning ⚠️ Stay away from this restaurant!!! We ate there today – an absolute disgrace! The so-called fried potatoes were reheated. The fish tasted absolutely sour, and the accompanying sauce also tasted very strangely sour – the worst meal we've ever been served. We received the receipt shortly after – even though we complained and didn't finish the food – some of us got diarrhea! The waiter said he was sorry – he'd only been there for two weeks and had to give out what was brought to the guests 🙈😩 The price-performance ratio is simply not right – even the ambiance can't hide that – stay away! Bremen has so many alternatives! Who's the supposed chef there??? It's a disgrace to serve such food to customers!!!!!

We arrived in the afternoon and got a table without any problems, so it was very quiet. The ambiance is simply lovely. The service was a bit chaotic that day because they were understaffed, but they were very friendly, polite, and helpful. The food was delicious, and we thought the price/performance ratio was perfectly reasonable.

An impressive, historic vaulted cellar with huge beer barrels and rustic seating niches – a pure atmosphere, preserved in its original state. The three-course lunch menu was very good and reasonably priced. The service was friendly, but not particularly attentive; otherwise, a thoroughly enjoyable visit.

We were allowed to eat in the Kaiserzimmer (Emperor's Room). Great food, superb service, and a wonderful atmosphere.

We were lucky and got a table at short notice. Before that, we had been to Feldmann's Bierhaus on the Schlachte, which, despite a table reservation for 11 people, had no room for us. In retrospect, I'm glad we didn't spend our €600 at Feldmann's Bierhaus. Thanks again for the great service. We'll reserve a table at the Ratskeller immediately when we're back in Bremen.

I was excited to try this restaurant after hearing so much about it, but unfortunately my experience was disappointing, especially as someone with a gluten allergy. I ordered a dish marked as gluten-free, and while the waiter initially reassured me, he later confirmed with the kitchen that the menu was incorrect and the dish actually contained gluten. The staff then suggested making a gluten-free version, and I accepted. Unfortunately what I received was a dish wish non gluten free bread. Fortunately I asked another waiter before starting to eat, and he admitted that it was regular bread. At the third time of having to change my dish, I opted for a small salad but quite reluctantly. For those with allergies or intolerances, be careful. The menu labeling was inaccurate, and the staff seemed unprepared to handle dietary requirements with the necessary care. While the restaurant may be enjoyable for those without restrictions, I cannot recommend it to anyone who needs safe gluten-free options.

There were two of us on a Thursday, the food came quickly, the redfish was not special, the fried potatoes were very salty, a waitress was so unfriendly and threw us out because we had briefly taken a look at the hall (private party) a glass of house wine costs about 10 euros, 0.2 l, I don't want to go back there again, the service was totally overwhelmed

Great atmostphere! We were lucky enough to get a reservation here. (Tip: If nothing is available online, stop by in person.) We had our own private room/booth off to the side. The cellar is beautiful. Food is good as was the service. We had the duck and meatballs all washed down with a bottle of their cabernet sauvignon. Very fortunate to have had the opportunity to experience this fine restaurant!

I celebrated my birthday there and the food was great, BUT they packed us in a table too small for so many people. Two people had to sit at both ends of the table where it was very uncomfortable to place the legs. Sorry, that is not acceptable. Food is important, but comfort too.

Very nice ambience, rustic menu with local specialties such as Labskaus and Bremer Kipp.

Directly across from "Beck's am Markt," weary pedestrians in the pedestrian zone will find delicious drinks and food at the "Bremer Ratskeller." Prices range from "fair" to "ambitious," the staff is very friendly, the beer is cold, and the seating is well spaced. Almost all the tables are occupied, filled with drink lovers who enjoy cocktails even at lunchtime. I'd definitely be happy to sit there again, albeit in a different parking space, because €6 for 90 minutes is highway robbery.

Everyone enjoyed the food; we had a good mix of meat, fish, and vegetarian options. The waiters all seemed a bit annoyed, so there weren't any smiles or anything. My sister and I wanted to pay secretly, but a colleague told our waitress, who then didn't have time to take our money. We then went for a smoke, and when we came back, the waitress in question was standing at our table taking our money. Huh? We found that a bit odd. For me, as a vegetarian, there were four dishes, which was okay, but personally, I wouldn't eat here again. They serve Bremen food here. Good, home-style food. At 37, I was almost the youngest, so it was basically just seniors there. If you like good, home-style Bremen food in exactly this kind of setting, then it's definitely recommended. For younger people, maybe not so much.

The food was good and plentiful. The service was a bit inattentive, but partly understandable given the hustle and bustle; I sat outside.

We went there yesterday with a larger group and were very impressed by the quaint location... A vaulted cellar with huge wine barrels and plenty of seating. All of us (16 people) didn't wait much longer than half an hour for our order! Logistically, it was truly a grand affair... 🙂 We were, without exception, extremely satisfied with our orders... 👍🏻👍🏻 Naturally, we had mostly hearty meat dishes – as you'd expect from a Ratskeller. Vegetarians will always find something, of course, but the selection is a bit limited... Prices start at around €20 – but a meat dish with a drink can easily add up to €30-40... At least the portions are very reasonable... No one was hungry afterward... 😂😂 Highly recommended for a hearty visit to Bremen...

A cellar that looks just like the beer cellars in Munich. Beautiful and delicious.

It was truly fantastic! The food, the service, the unique ambiance... we'd love to go back!

I visited on a Sunday afternoon. The entrance is a little small and difficult to find, but it's next to the Bremen Town Musicians statue. Once you enter the basement, you'll find a very spacious restaurant. The food is typical German regional cuisine. I thoroughly enjoyed the beer, which is a different flavor from the food in southern Bavaria.

There were 10 of us there. Some were very happy with the food, while the other half, unfortunately, weren't. The duck was excellent. Unfortunately, the service was a bit unfriendly. But the lady at the front desk was the highlight. I even told her so myself. We wouldn't come back.

The three stars are for the ambience and the history. I give zero stars for the food and the value for money.

Tourist trap! We were with a group at the Ratskeller, and the food, whether meat or fish, was "substandard." I chose the plaice, a breaded, frozen deep-fried fish with raw carrots, without any kind of marinade. The wines offered to us (S. Blanc and Gr. Burgundy) were also more typical Rheinhessen, sweet and Kabinett, than quality from Palatinate or Baden. The evening was an absolute disaster!

So wonderful to walk down the fantastic stairs, and almost time travel from the unpleasant heat to the naturally cool Ratskeller with friendly personell and excellent food. I got my food before the beer, but beer was on time.

A beautiful restaurant with a certain flair located in the historic town hall in the heart of Bremen. For romantics, there are private areas, which must be reserved in advance. Lovely ambiance. Prices are also somewhat reasonable.

After our first visit to the Ratskeller, which we really enjoyed, we decided to round off our wedding anniversary with a meal here. It was once again magnificent. Kudos to the kitchen. The food was truly delicious. The service was also outstanding, starting with the table preparation, the consultation on the appetizer, and throughout the course of the evening, we felt as if our every wish was being anticipated. We recently ate at the Bremer Ratskeller and had two dishes: The oven-baked honey-chili duck with red cabbage and dumplings was truly outstanding – perfectly prepared, aromatic, and a complete success. Unfortunately, the second dish, the hake fillet with a nut-sesame crust on Mediterranean vegetables and rosemary potatoes, was completely unconvincing. It was neither seasoned nor well-seasoned, significantly too fatty, and some of the vegetables were so overcooked that they were blackened. The taste was completely disappointing, so the vegetables were left lying around – without ever being asked why. The service seemed uncoordinated overall: There were what felt like 20 different people bringing drinks, but only one waitress in charge of the tables. While she was always trying, she was simply overwhelmed by the number of guests. Conclusion: A bright spot for the duck, otherwise a disappointing visit.

The food wasn't great. The starter was fine; you can't really mess up beets with salad and walnuts. The main course, on the other hand, was truly awful: incredibly overcooked, flavorless chicken. And yes, the waiter asked if I wanted another, but I'd had enough. 🥲 No compensation at all at checkout. The price-quality ratio is terrible! The dishes were served in no time, leaving little time for a cozy meal.
