A crowded and dark restaurant where you have to wait a long time for the staff for each order, my red wine arrived after I finished my meal. So much noise that you will not have any sense of peace for a pleasant evening.

Unfortunately overrated: you don't pay for the food but for the snobbish clientele. So if you like being surrounded by special, “rich” or elite people, this is the right place for you. The schnitzel was okay. But really not wow. The atmosphere is rather cool. But service was really very friendly and accommodating.

Even diplomats like me will probably be put in the back of the tent. Atmosphere like in a train station hall. Tables crowded together. Chairs very uncomfortable. It's so dark there that you can barely read the menu. Toilets are even darker. The service was good for us and the food was good too. But it doesn't help if the atmosphere is subterranean. I stay in 5 star hotels up and down the country and can judge it. Borchardt is about quantity rather than class. Too bad.

We reserved 8 seats at 10:30pm but the restaurant is crowded. We have to wait around 15 mins to get table (although we reserved) we got the place downstair. Maybe it our fault that didn‘t expect that it gonna be like a club at downstair. The waiter didn’t mention it also. We checked the reviews and it looks like a dining restaurant, but it’s not. So if you want a place for talking and eating pleasantly - not dancing and all over with smoking, don‘t forget to reserve EG floor!! Moreover, we ordered Whiskey sour at the bar but one of them came with decorated fruit but two not, the bar was very busy and the bartender spoke with us not so nice. However, the waiter who took care of our table is nice. The food is ok, schnitzel is huge.

The whole thing was significantly disappointing. Advertised like the European Court in Heidelberg or the Breidenbacherhof in Düsseldorf... unfortunately the complete opposite. The restaurant is cold and carelessly decorated. Reminiscent of a cafeteria in historical walls. The service was inattentive and not really professional! However, I expect this in this price segment! The Wieberschnitzel was swimming in fat, was okay but not justified for this price. When we made the staff aware of deficiencies, we were told that this happens when there is a lot of crowds... bulk instead of great... unfortunately I can't recommend the restaurant and have to put this complaint online via Google... personally I wasn't asked whether it was tasty or not I would like to point out something, when I commented something it was put aside without comment... it's a shame

The service quality is very good in the restaurant, which has a very old history. The wine cellar is perfect and affordable. All the options on the menu are fresh and delicious.

The food is delicious, but a waiter kicked over my bag and brazenly ignored the action. But the manager of the restaurant also shows catastrophic behavior! When I pointed out his waiter's behavior, he said that's just the way it is. And he even saw it but he still didn't seem to care. This restaurant is not a snack bar but a well-respected establishment. What a shame, unfortunately it was my last time there.

I went alone and ordered schnitzel, and they asked me if I wanted to order half as one might be too much!! Half was just the right amount and it was delicious🥹 The atmosphere was nice and the staff were friendly, so it seemed like a good place to have an important gathering with family or friends!!

It was truly a unique experience in Borchardt. It was clear to me that it's primarily about seeing and being seen, so you can adapt to the clientele accordingly. The prices are decent, but the schnitzel and drinks really taste great. So why the bad rating? When you enter the location you are initially shocked. You feel like you're in a (admittedly high-quality) train station hall, it's far too crowded and you can hardly understand your own words. It's probably not that important if you're there primarily for Instagram likes. But I have actually never experienced what the staff did. First of all, about our group: We were 6 men in our early 30s, dressed normally and wanted to celebrate a birthday. We were placed in the cellar basement; the air there was extremely stuffy due to the lack of ventilation, so we often went out to get some air. That worked well at the beginning, but at 11:45 p.m. we were denied re-entry. A selection would now take place and we had never been to the restaurant anyway, but were “latecomers”. This was followed by some harsh phrases and explanations as to why one could no longer enter the store. Only when one of our companions came to the door from inside were we reluctantly allowed entry. Mind you, we had already spent several hundred euros at this point. But that wasn't the best thing: Apparently the place assigned to us was only intended for a short-term stay (perhaps it was assigned that way on purpose if it was an all-male group? ;) ). When we were back at our seats, the waiters began to clear away our still full glasses without comment and did not accept any objections. Then the big deal: The "head waiter" comes to our table around half past 1 with a brisk step and, while we are still sitting at the table, pulls him away from us with the words "I've had enough now". What is enough for him remains completely unclear; there were no abnormalities/disputes or other incidents from our group. We assume that our reservations should be limited from the outset since we don't seem to be the desired clientele. We then left the house. Every McDonalds offers better service. If you want to eat well, you will certainly find restaurants whose service corresponds to the higher price level. If you have too much money and want to experience what it feels like to be treated condescendingly, this is the right place for you.

I cannot recommend the vegan schnitzel. That tasted like cardboard. The vegetarian starter was good. It was very loud in the restaurant and reminded me of a train station. Unfortunately, the seats were very narrow, so I was constantly jostled when someone walked past me or had the waiter's plates in their faces. I mentioned this too, but in the rush I was forgotten. All in all it wouldn't be bad if we hadn't spent around €80-100 per person.

We came from HH and wanted to have a really nice meal. The food is really delicious and the service was very attentive. But the volume was very loud, like a train station. Not to mention privacy. We had a table for 2 and the next table was only a hand's width away from us.

Classic Austrian cuisine. This biased reviewer thinks it's inevitably all better in Vienna, but it's still tasty / satisfying at this Berlin institution not far from Checkpoint Charlie and Unter den Linden. So busy / packed on a Thursday evening we had people knocking things on our table as they squeezed past getting to/from theirs. I also thought the Kartoffelsalat serving with the Schnitzel was a little stingy for the price-point - not to mention asking for tap water and getting a €9.50 bottle of still mineral water!

The first impression after entering was very good as you were immediately greeted in a friendly manner and escorted to the table. But then, nothing more. After more than 20 minutes there was still no waiter waiting to take an order. Neither food nor drinks. Even attempts to draw attention to oneself through eye contact were perfectly ignored. We had had Borchardt on our list for a long time and were looking forward to a nice evening, but unfortunately this ignorance is not possible. Luckily we found a great location one street further with delicious schnitzels and good beer. Thanks for the wasted wait.

My visit to Borchardt was a mixed experience. On a positive note, the manager was friendly and the first waiter was very attentive, courteous and positive. The food was also good overall, apart from the potato salad, which didn't impress in terms of taste. Unfortunately, the ambience did not meet the expectations of an upscale restaurant: the tables were so close together that you felt like you were in a train station and had to listen to the other guests' conversations at full volume - there was hardly any privacy. What was particularly disappointing, however, was the way we were treated during our stay. A second waiter suddenly explained to us that we would have to say goodbye soon due to time slots. Afterwards, there were several attempts to subtly pressure us to leave - be it by other waiters who repeatedly tried to clear away our food, or by withholding the dessert menu. At the same time, guests in our area were given noticeably preferential treatment – ​​apparently due to their well-known backgrounds: they received massages on site and gestures such as hand kisses from the staff. Not only was this unpleasant to watch, but it also reinforced the feeling that the treatment of guests depends heavily on perceived status. A restaurant that promises fine hospitality should strive to provide every guest with an equal and pleasant experience. However, the impression given here is that status and fame are more important than respect and fairness. This is not only a shame, but also undermines the standards that the restaurant should set for itself.

A proper German treat in the heart of Berlin! If you’re looking for a classic Wiener Schnitzel served on an amazing potato salad, this is a must! Service was impeccable and the food from start to finish was delicious!

It's always interesting to see who's coming and going at Borchardt, but unfortunately it's acoustically problematic when it's really full and some tables in passages or narrow spaces are unreasonable. The food etc. is always great!

The food was excellent as always. I ordered a plat du jour (salad and black halibut), I was served the black halibut first. When I asked about the salad, I was told that it only had two hands - that's train station level and not appropriate for a restaurant like Borcahrdt. Too bad. Otherwise very good as always.

Our visit to Berlin also brought us here. The impression when you enter the room for the first time is a bit overwhelming and the volume, as expected, is impressive. Since we had informed ourselves in advance, we knew that it would not be a cozy dinner here as far as the atmosphere was concerned. So you have to be able to get involved with it. What we found very unpleasant was that the tables for two were much too close to the table neighbors. Not only is privacy difficult, but you also have to get up from others every time you go to the toilet. As far as the clientele is concerned, you will of course find many influencers, new Ritchkids and others. So something like cinema. Therefore, more of an experience gastronomy. The food and service was wonderful and almost perfect in every way. Higher prices should be taken into account.

Buscando una comida alemana auténtica elegante. El hotel hizo la reserva y muy promocionado la comida y el servicio. Nos llevaron inmediatamente al cuarto trasero. Colocado en una mesa que bloqueaba la salida de emergencia. No había privacidad. Los clientes literalmente encima de nosotros y entre nosotros. El servicio era pobre porque había demasiados clientes X 10. sentimos cada vez más que este era un lugar turístico para los pseudo intelectuales desprevenidos que buscan ver a los ricos y famosos que la instalación promociona. La comida era promedio y caro, pero no horrible. Muy caro para la calidad. No entiendo por qué multitud de personas van aquí. Es un misterio sin respuesta.

This is a must_visiting place in berlin…they are known for the classic Schnitzel…it was good..we ordered black angus fillet and it was ok…chicken ceaser salad was a good choice, too. The mousse chocolate was really worth it 👍🏻

Dear restaurant team Borchardt & Mr. Mary, I have to say I'm really disappointed. This has never happened to me in high-end restaurants. I find it extremely rude and unprofessional to cancel a reservation for 20 people the evening before, saying that you would sort it out and get back to us. But then I didn't hear from you anymore. The next morning I asked myself and was told my table had been cancelled. I find this extremely inappropriate, especially for such a large group. I would like to give my opinion on this restaurant where I was so disappointed that I said to myself: never here again. Unfortunately, last Sunday I was invited. My first disappointment was the glasses of champagne: a real rip-off. Judge for yourself. Is that really 12 cl???

We visited the restaurant as a family in the early evening. The food is average. The seating is so tight that it is completely unacceptable. I was hit several times in the back by waiters rushing past. I was able to follow the conversations at the next table without exception. The volume is incredibly high. The lighting was creepy. I felt a strong instinct to flee in the first few minutes. This had nothing to do with a sophisticated dinner in a pleasant atmosphere. Our waiter was friendly and accommodating, as was the restaurant manager. However, this could not reverse the otherwise negative impression. Kind regards from HH. Great traditional food, very good service and an authentic atmosphere. The only hair in the soup for me is that the establishment allows people to bring their dogs. While we were there a couple of them started to bark aggressively at each other. Recommended! PS: We came back a few days later to lunch again, because we liked the food, the service and the authenticity of the place so much. The second time we did not have a reservation, and the place was packed. But we were greeted very kindly and quickly given a table. Everything was as good as the first time around or even better as there were no dogs the second time.

It's loud and when it's full everything seems "hectic" - but that's life too - I really liked it :) Audience very diverse - great. Super schönes Restaurant mit französischem Flair! Hier gibt es das beste Schnitzel in ganz Berlin. Die Preise sind minimal über dem Durchschnitt der Restaurants in dieser Gegend. Wir kommen immer wieder gerne! Nur Freitagabende meiden wir hier, weil dann der Club im Keller öffnet und das Publikum dementsprechend ist … Leider nicht so kulturvoll wie unter der Woche.

Three of us went to Borchhardt with our dog last night and were very satisfied with the ambience of the house, the food (tuna tartare as a starter, beef tartare, schnitzel and crème brulee for dessert) and the extremely friendly and fast service from the waiters. We'd love to come back.

Food is without question top, service very attentive and plenty of staff. However, almost unbearably warm and extremely loud. This is about seeing and being seen, nothing more. It's definitely worth it for kids who want to see one or two influencers in person, but for me it's okay for a one-off detour and an admittedly good schnitzel.

I recently visited Borchardt, excited to try the famous Schnitzel à la Holstein, which was supposedly invented at this very restaurant in the late 19th century to please Prussian diplomat Friedrich von Holstein. Imagine my surprise when I asked about it, only to be met with a blank stare from the waiter—they had never even heard of the dish! While the restaurant has a historic reputation, it was disappointing that such an iconic part of its culinary history wasn’t on the menu. That said, the service was polite and the atmosphere was classic Berlin, but if you’re coming for Schnitzel à la Holstein, you’ll be leaving empty-handed!

I was there for dinner and I only got the tartare from my dish. My fries and salad that came with the dish were forgotten. Still I had to pay the FULL price. I have never had such bad service.

Extremely good service. Unfortunately, the restaurant has very tight seating and a correspondingly high level of noise. The quality of the food (here oysters) was very good, although the oysters themselves were quite small. They were much better at KaDeWe. The other dishes, especially the schnitzels, are very sumptuous.

Trendy location, you should definitely book in advance, with legendary Wiener Schnitzel. Not for romantic hours, there is a considerable level of noise. Still happy again.

A shocking mess. The service was good and fast and friendly but it was difficult to understand what the person sitting next to was saying, it was so noisy

Borchardt… a name that is known far beyond the city limits of Berlin. Requested online reservation 2 days in advance, but unfortunately no response. When we arrived in Berlin we tried our luck again by phone, unfortunately also in vain. To our delight, the hotel concierge was able to reserve a table within two minutes. So into the restaurant. The dining room is cozy, dim but by no means gloomy, and you can feel at home. The service was impeccable, quick and polite. The somewhat discreet manner of the waiters is typical of “It-Lokal”, but not unpleasant. The food, we both had the Wiener Schnitzel, was very good and, above all, plentiful and, so far away from Vienna, there is no need to hide. The side dishes as well. All in all, a very positive experience and definitely on the agenda next time in Berlin.

I forgot my Prada bag and travel bag with them and apparently nothing was found….

One point was the politeness of the young waiters. I really appreciated it. Other than that absolutely overhyped - huge disappointment. We are both big foodies. My husband took me there for my birthday as a surprise & we both left rather quickly. It was also so loud. It was definitely a waste of money as I didn’t even touch my plate because it tasted extremely bland.

The food wasn't hot, our waiter was kinda rude and treated us as plebs (which I don't deny but we still paid for this lol). It was delicious though and the atmosphere was nice.

Really good evening at Bochardt. Our entire table ordered their gigantic wiener schnitzels, with potato salads and cucumber salads, a great authentic experience. The food was really tasty and generously portioned. Loved it, would love to return another time.

The trendy restaurant in Berlin Mitte - seeing and being seen is the order of the day here. But you also have to bring the necessary change with you. Classic venue with elevated fares and European dishes. The appetizers and the desserts were quite good, but the mains of seafood risotto and roasted veal were quite standard. Overall, the food is not quite worth the price in my opinion, and the ambience and service are not quite worth the premium. Not my type of restaurant.

Everything is very good, but a little more light at night would be better to see what is being eaten

"Don't mess the blocks" or "if you can, then you can" - if you go there, please do everything: starter (tartar recommended!), main course (schnitzel recommended!) and dessert (crème brûlée recommended!) with wine accompaniment and bottled water, rounded off with an espresso at the end. The dishes are well salted, but so are the prices. Would I go again? YES! Would I go weekly? No.

I'm not normally someone who quickly writes a critical review, but we were extremely annoyed in the restaurant and you just have to be allowed to criticize that. We had already inquired on June 17th and received a reservation confirmation for September 13th. When we arrived at the agreed time (evening) last Friday, September 13th, 2024, the only thing we could be offered was a small bistro table in the basement or a separate table in the back room (no one else was sitting there). We were usually well dressed and approached the staff in a friendly manner, but when you are one of the first to make a reservation, tables in the restaurant are unoccupied and, despite polite requests, you can only get an "emergency seat" at the back, it makes you realize that you are not welcome here - without anyone knowing us. You're not allowed to rise above anyone, but then people tell you that, and I honestly don't know what these people do during the week when we're at work, when they have to hang up jackets or assign seats on Friday evenings and also there are no waiters/waiters. It's a shame that you, as a "normal mortal", are obviously treated like that here. Not a recommendation for a cozy evening without any hassle. Unfortunately.

We ate at Borchardt on a Saturday evening and found the food very good. The service was very attentive and the choice of wines was also wide. The four stars are linked to the conditions of the bathroom, which in a place of this type should always be well looked after and which in fact was not. Prices are above average. Update 09/2024 four stars confirmed although some waiters deserve six.

Good food. The main dish is the fried cutlet. Noisy. Good waiting times.
