Borchardt in Berlin

This restaurant is a joke, we had a booking for Friday 13th of June at 20h15, with a booking confirmation. The “manager” or the person in charge had the audacity to say “it was a system issue and the reservation is not actually there”. Nevertheless, we booked the same restaurant the Sunday 15th of June under a different name, went there and asked them if they can see past bookings, which they said yes to, funny enough, my name did indeed appear on the reservation list on Friday 13th. They judge you by the way you look, irrelevant of the money you have, if you don’t look “good enough” for a Friday evening (seeing on the website there is no mentions of any dress codes), it is shocking that they will say no to you in a blink of an eye and straight up LIE if front of you. However, on the Sunday 15th we went, the food was good and the service was acceptable.

Excellent dinner at 8.30pm Wednesday 👍✅ my last visit was 1995 for a business dinner and on a return 5 night personal trip to Berlin I was determined to revisit for a special dinner with my partner!! We were not disappointed and it way good to see the restaurant busy and thriving 👍✅ thank you for an excellent dinner of fresh asparagus and strawberries with accompanying wine and beer!! You made our visit memorable and we learnt our waiter was working with you at my last visit.... well done and thank you for so many years of loyal service...💯🏆

Nice restaurant for people watching. We sat outdoors on the back of the property. Burrata, rucolasalat and Wassermelonsalat were excellent. Wiener Schnitzel came in a huge dish (you can also order a smaller portion) and was delicious. The Argentina beef fillets were overcooked and dry (we ordered medium well). The sweet potato frites were fried to perfection though. All in all a good experience, good and efficient service, with room for improvement for the food taking into account the prices charged. On the negative side, people are allowed to smoke on the outdoor tables which was highly irritating (I had a guy holding his cigarette literally half a meter from my nose) and had to suffer noise from some screaming drunk (or stoned) guests from a nearby table. In general, we had fun and it was ok.

After so many years, as a Berliner, I finally managed to eat here. And I have to say, I understand the hype; the schnitzel is simply amazing. The staff is very attentive and friendly, 100% recommended!

Basically, nothing bad, except for a few minor things. No napkins at the place setting. An order was forgotten. A meal was completely oversalted and had to be returned. Considering the prices, it's more of a 4-!

Waiter was haughty, unfriendly, cold and rushed every stage of the meal. It seemed like he was keen to get us out.

What can I say other than, it couldn't be better. Anyone with premium clients should hold their business lunch here.

One of my favorite restaurants on the world and certainly the best place to have Wienerschnitzel and spargel. Great service from Michael. It's nice to have a sharp waiter with the right attitude.

A trendy pub, apparently also for political celebrities, yet friendly and unpretentious. The asparagus and salmon were perfect, the cheese platter plentiful, and the white wine perfectly matched.

My first visit to Borchardt was also my last. Borchardt is first and foremost a restaurant, even if the interior design is more reminiscent of a coffee house. I ordered a 300g US beef entrecôte, along with champagne and mineral water. The service was initially warm and attentive. The champagne was served with a medium-strength mineral water. When I asked, I was told that they don't offer classic, highly carbonated mineral water. Well, shouldn't they have told me that when I ordered? Or at the very latest, when the bottle was placed on the table? The steak arrived. It looked a bit small for a 300g steak, but never mind. The flavor was typically corny, as you would expect from US meat. It was grilled to perfection and had a sufficiently large fat edge. A delight. Less pleasant was that from the moment my steak was served, I seemed to no longer exist for the waiter. I wasn't asked if I was satisfied with the meal. After eating the steak, I actually wanted to have a digestif. But the waiter never came. I sat with my empty plate for about fifteen minutes until I finally got fed up and went to the counter to pay. The colleague at the entrance asked what I wanted, and I explained what had happened and that I didn't want to order anything else and would just pay. I was offered a coffee on the house, which I politely declined. "My" waiter was called; despite the long wait, I could still remember his face, and I also expressed my dissatisfaction to him. He pointed out that he had so many guests to serve. It was early afternoon, and not very busy. All in all: When I'm spending almost €100 on food and drinks, I expect more attention.

The classic restaurant with all the German favorites. They have the Weiner Schnitzel, but the true gems are the Blood sausage and the Veal liver if that’s your thing.

Despite having reserved weeks in advance, we were told to park on the first floor. After a five-minute discussion, we were given a table in the courtyard. The lady at the reception wasn't really there.

We had a lovely evening at Borchardt. The service was very attentive, and special requests were accommodated. The oysters were delicious, but the prawns were unfortunately not cleaned (still with the casings). The Wiener Schnitzel is highly recommended. Unfortunately, the dining room is very noisy, making a relaxed and quiet dinner difficult.

The Borchardt – known as a place to "see and be seen" – has a certain reputation, but unfortunately, the culinary experience didn't live up to this during my visit. I was repeatedly advised against eating there beforehand. Nevertheless, I wanted to see for myself, as a friend was visiting and wanted to try the famous Wiener Schnitzel. Unfortunately, I have to say: once and never again – at least not for people who value good food and professional service. About the food: The presentation was odd – the asparagus was placed underneath the schnitzel, which made cutting unnecessarily difficult. The schnitzel itself was unevenly seasoned: too salty and peppery on the inside, but completely bland on the outside. The asparagus wasn't peeled properly, making it tough, bitter, and barely edible. And that's supposed to be a dish for 54 euros? For a supposedly renowned restaurant, I find that cheeky and downright disappointing. Furthermore, the schnitzel served wasn't even veal, so it wasn't a classic Wiener Schnitzel either – a contradiction to the menu. Now, the service: Our waiter seemed inauthentic from the start – jokes that were more awkward than charming, and a manner that seemed more condescending than hospitable. Three examples particularly illustrate this: 1. When I couldn't decide between entrecôte and schnitzel, I asked for his recommendation. The answer: "Everyone has their own taste, just go for what you can't get at home." This statement seemed not only rude but also condescending. 2. My friend asked how big the large schnitzel was. The answer: "Whether big or small, ask Albert Einstein," followed by a laugh – no real information, no service, just a weak joke. 3. When I mentioned at the end that the recommended asparagus was inedible, I politely asked if there was any small compensation. The answer: "If you had said something earlier – now it's too bad." No regrets, no leniency. Conclusion: For people who appreciate good food, genuine service, and a sense of hospitality, the Borchardt is unfortunately not recommended. It may live off its name, but certainly not on its quality. It's a real shame, because it has a lot of potential.

You can do it. Eat a real veal schnitzel in a relaxed atmosphere in the backyard until midnight during the middle of the week. Where else outside of Berlin and the Borchardt can you do that? Top-notch service. The schnitzel was a bit dry...but still super good and not too greasy. Prices are steep. A Ponrstar Martini for 20 euros :D

Great food - the rest kind of sucked. We both had the schnitzel and agreed it was the best schnitzel we'd ever had. Unfortunately that's where the good points end. The whole restaurant is basically one big table - we were touching elbows with our neighbours. It is also impossible to have any kind of conversation as you can't even hear yourself think! Staff are just run off their feet so service is somewhat slow. All in all - definitely an experience, not necessarily a good one.

An institution that knows how to impress. The service is attentive, competent, and omnipresent. The food is good, home-style. Drinks are perhaps a bit overpriced.

This was my first time at this restaurant. It's very centrally located in Berlin. We sat outside in the courtyard. It was very cramped. My neighbor sat about 30 cm away. His food looked good. I had a medium fillet steak (200 grams) with sweet potato fries. The fillet cost €59 and was very cold inside. It certainly wasn't 200 grams. You can see the piece in the photo. The beer was not carbonated and tasted stale. Really not normal for these prices. I rarely complain. You can see that in my other Google reviews. But I won't go to Borchardt anymore. A Berlin classic. Good selection of drinks. Service could be improved during rush hour. After the first drink and the main course, no one asked if we wanted anything else. The lunch menu is also well-stocked for vegetarians. The food is excellent value for money.

Do not go if you are a tourist. Awful experience. Extremely rude staff. Waiter was very rude and did not make us feel welcome at all. Barely wanted to serve us, I had to ask him if we could order drinks after he muttered to us asking what we wanted for food. We asked for another basket of bread (one given to 4 people), he brought a new basket and took away the old one which still had the bread in it.. absolutely absurd behaviour. There was no checking back with us when our food was given. We felt very unwanted despite the high prices they charge. When we decided to not provide a tip at the end, he rudely shouted "WHY YOU NOT GIVE A TIP TO US, IVE BEEN RUNNING BACK AND FORE FOR YOU"... absolutely disgusting attitude. No wonder we gave no tip. Would definitely not return to this place again.

A very chic, upscale restaurant with delicacies. The portions are a bit small for the price, but the quality is good and the food is delicious. You have to try the vegan creme brulee. I've rarely eaten anything as delicious as this. Everything else was good too. The staff was very friendly.

Very good food, which was unfortunately marred by extremely overwhelmed waiters. Paying took forever, and you had to wave the whole time, and still didn't get any attention. The steak tartare today was very disappointing; not prepared in front of me and a mile away from any freshness. I usually go to Borchardt on weekends to have lunch. The steak tartare is usually prepared in front of the customer. Today I received it ready, as if just out of the fridge. It looked and tasted like something that had been prepared the day before; very disheartening. I couldn't hide my disappointment from the waiter, who promised to prepare it in front of me next time. A little advice to all customers: Always request that the steak tartare be prepared in front of you; I will do so from now on, if there is a "next time." Good and tasty food but requires some fine tuning. Great cocktails! Especially the Negroni

The evening was amazing. We sat on the first floor and were warmly welcomed by Lisa. I've rarely been greeted by such a friendly and welcoming receptionist in Berlin. We were given small welcome drinks and were seated quickly. The food was great, the schnitzel was, of course, the best... The party on Friday is highly recommended; the atmosphere was fantastic!

Today, after a very long time, I had lunch at Borchardt again! This restaurant has a legendary reputation for food and service for a reason! Today I chose Fried Liver! One of my favorite dishes! But there were always disappointments! Everything was perfect here in Borchardt; the service was quick and reliable and despite all the stress around lunchtime, friendly and polite! The food came quickly after 11 minutes and was excellently prepared! I was able to enjoy my painting time with a glass of Pinot Gris! All in all, a successful lunchtime!

Schnitzel was very tasty 10/10. The service was by far the weakest I have ever experienced in Berlin. No questions about whether it was tasty, no questions about dessert, etc. and no farewells whatsoever. Completely ignored and no response to our “bye”. The service staff set the table outside (completely okay) - but it was super loud right next to the table. Unfortunately a disappointment because it's not just the food that counts. There are a few restaurants in Berlin with good schnitzels and good service.

Even though you have a reservation, you have to wait more than 30 minutes to be brought to your table. It's loud, the service is slow and the food isn't particularly tasty. I can't recommend it if you want to eat in peace and have a conversation - because if you want to have a conversation you have to scream.

Very expensive, but for me it was worth it. The schnitzels and also vegan schnitzels are extremely recommended. However, the service could be a little friendlier at this price point.

Quality and taste of the Schnitzel was great and the side potatoes was nicely executed. Other than that, the rest of the dishes were very average. The Steak tartar had no flavor, the steak, Béarnaise sauce & spinach tasted very blend. A good varieties of wine but when we ordered the champagne, both bottles were served warm…Waiter also spilled 1/3 of the bottle without offering any service recovery… Service was bad, lack of empathy. The host was unorganized, and the door ladies were very rude!

A chic restaurant with delicious food and super-friendly service – especially when dealing with my child. The employees immediately brought paper and pens to the table for drawing, which I always really appreciate - even if we have our own stationery with us. For me, this is a nice gesture and at the same time a warm invitation to the children. Very attentive and child-friendly

Disappointing visit to Borchardt Berlin Unfortunately, our visit to Borchardt did not live up to expectations. The tables were so close together that there was no privacy - you even had to move the entire table if someone wanted to go to the toilet. Also dirty toilets. That was not only unpleasant, but simply unacceptable. The food was mediocre at best - disappointing for a restaurant with this reputation. The service seemed inattentive and more stressed than professional. Overall, not a consistent experience. We expected much more for the price and reputation

Unworthy! Despite a reservation confirmed in writing and arrival exactly on time, no table was available, unbelievable! I've dined in many restaurants around the world, from 3-star to fast food, but nothing like this has ever happened to me. I sat down outside in 14 degrees and had a drink and an appetizer and asked to sit inside as soon as a table became available... But even after more than 30 minutes, supposedly nothing free, you feel like you've been really fooled. I felt really sorry for the waiter because he was visibly embarrassed and did his best. Still a bad evening. I skipped the main course when it was 20 degrees outside at 8 p.m. Unfortunately there were no tips. It's a shame, it was my first time there. Missed opportunity! Service desert Germany. Maybe the restaurant no longer needs it because of certain celebrities and now people just laugh about it. I think things like that backfire at some point... 😢

For several years now, Borchardt, which I have valued since 1999, has not been very attractive. Mediocre food, not great service, measly wine list, always overcrowded... That has changed: The celebrity store is still overcrowded, but: The food was good to very good, the service was much better than before, the wine list was high-priced, but with class. If you like it loud and hustle and bustle: Borchardt is worth it again!

I was there with three children and reserved a table in the inner area but then got the table directly by the kitchen. As a father with three children, I unfortunately didn't get the table that was promised but rather a table exactly where the food was served. With three small children we paid €320 and were treated relatively poorly. A cocktail broke right next to us and I had splinters in my face, but no one really cared. That's a real shame, you expected more here. Food was great, wine and Expresso Martini too. Unfortunately, the location's obvious shortcomings were not taken into account. That's a no go! A restaurant that advertises such a historic past on its website needs to react better here. Too bad!!!

We had reserved a table for 3 people at 8:45 p.m. and were informed on site that the 3rd person was no longer coming. After 30 We waited a few minutes and then left because we were always held back with the words: “just a moment” and other people were given a table before us.

Overall, everything is a bit overestimated. The food was okay, but by no means lived up to the above-average price (Wiener Schnitzel with potato salad: €34). The waiter was friendly and quick. The allocation of seats was unclear - despite reservations. While the restaurant was still largely empty, a table was reserved DIRECTLY next to us (20 cm as the crow flies). The atmosphere is somewhere between the train station and the hotel lobby - quite loud and quite restless due to the bustling waiters. Not a direct recommendation, but I can do it.

Unfortunately, our visit to Borchardt was anything but the upscale experience we had hoped for. There is definitely potential, but the current condition is simply unacceptable and does not meet the standards of an upscale restaurant. The biggest problem started with the placement: we were actually put into a makeshift backyard tent that had absolutely nothing to do with stylish ambience. Instead, there was a total cafeteria vibe – cold, uncomfortable, loveless. A tent as an extension of a supposedly renowned restaurant is an absolute no-go. The service seamlessly adapted to this bad impression: unfriendly, annoyed and extremely slow. It took over an hour before our food was finally served - without any explanation or word of apology. Unfortunately the food was also a disappointment. Even the starter, a goat cheese with salad, left a lot to be desired. The cheese tasted old and inferior - no trace of superior quality. The main course finally brought the frustration to overflowing: My medium rare steak was cold in places! Something like that simply shouldn't happen in an upscale restaurant. Overall, the Borchardt leaves the impression of relying solely on its name without actually offering any quality or service. The potential is there, but the current state is far from what one would expect. Price-performance ratio is not right here at all. Definitely not recommended in its current condition.

No, it's way too crowded there. The tables are close together and it's loud like a train station. There is no privacy, everything you discuss with your companion is heard by strangers. It's very uncomfortable there. Next time we'll go somewhere else.

The service and food here are beyond reproach. First-class quality of products that you can also taste. Unfortunately, this is coupled with the atmosphere of a train station hall, far too loud and lots of people standing around trying to watch the food on your plate.

Unfortunately disappointing. The restaurant was completely overcrowded and the tables were extremely close together. We were put in a side room that was separated by a wooden wall and a parasol - not very inviting. The noise level was so high that normal conversation was hardly possible. The schnitzel was the only highlight. Maybe it used to be a hip place, but it still lives on the reputation of the past. Too bad!

The steak was excellent with spinach and béarnaise sauce! The service was very friendly. We sat in the annex, which was a bit dim and the seating was cramped.

We booked at this restaurant thinking of spending a quiet evening... Instead we found ourselves in a kind of festival, where if you're lucky you eat at your leisure, otherwise they place the table in passing areas where you have to pray so that they don't spill the food on you... an unimaginable confusion, and customers of truly dubious taste... bordering on trash! Too bad because the cutlet deserved it!

The food was good but not as exceptional as you might expect for the money. The operator seemed distant and impersonal, but did his job properly. A lot of tables in a relatively small space give the impression of a large canteen. The lighting could be brighter.

Anyone expecting an upscale ambience and a luxurious experience will be disappointed. The food is good but not outstanding, the restaurant has far too narrow seating and far too loud. Waiting times of 20 minutes “at the bar” despite a reservation because “there is too much going on right now” (statement from service staff) - difficult. 10% fewer tables/seatings and two more service staff would do the restaurant a lot of good - it seems too crowded, too hectic, and not very upscale. Make a reservation and taste classics 👌

Actually, this is no longer a meeting of politicians and journalists. It's a trendy pub with great food in (partly) historical settings. We were there on Friday evening. The average age of the audience was 25. Lots of dressed-up girls as if they were looking for a dating partner, guys like real estate agents who have loud video calls and film themselves during the meal, rich bouncers, a few older guests, not very dignified overall. Very loud, very colorful. We made reservations but got a place in an annex that looked very shabby and cheap. A waiter brought four Viennese glasses of different sizes. The food was really good, especially file and schnitzel. The wine not that good. I can only advise against bouillabaisse, it has nothing in common with French soup. Otherwise: If you like loud and young surroundings and want good food that isn't very expensive, you can feel really good here.

Great place and good food. It was a horrible and difficult staff that ruined the experience quite a bit. They had no control over allergy meals, and in addition, most of them were creepy in the way they chatted to us.

Excellent food & service in a wonderful setting. If you’re near Berlin Mitte, it’s a great place for a nice meal.

In short, the schnitzel was tasty, but it felt mass-produced at a premium price. I was here with friends to toast my birthday. The first hurdle, the entrance, the clunky cloakroom hinders entry and exit, guests coming and going meet in the already squat entrance area and it quickly builds up. Overall very messy. It's better to come in summer without a jacket or away from peak times. We were then seated tightly at a table, the waiters were always running, slightly overwhelmed and it generally seemed understaffed. Because many guests are forced into a small space. Comfortable is different. The food was great, you can't complain and the portions were sufficient. Just one. For the price, I would have liked a little more attention to detail, such as a little bag to hold the lemon, to catch the seeds, etc. I've already seen something like that with veal schnitzel for 10 euros less. After all, it was veal.

Extremely loud inside, very hectic, completely overpriced and the food is no better than at any snack bar. The potato salad from the supermarket tastes better. The Wiener Schnitzel is okay. The vegan Wienerschnitzel is just embarrassing for the price! You are really ripping off people and fooling people! The crème brûlée couldn't have been less for the price with a bowl height of about 1cm. It wasn't firm enough and here again the supermarket is better.

Interesting experience in an absolutely traditional restaurant. Not exactly cheap. You should expect 100 EUR per head. But definitely worth an experience.

I was there twice, once down with the grade A and Half a year later on the 1st floor, the food was of top quality again, a little too little (I had a starter & main course & dessert = and wasn't full), it was far too loud, the service was, to say the least, very inattentive and quite taciturn, stressed and argued in front of the guest. Furthermore, the young people up to 40 left their behavior at home on this Friday evening!!! Especially the ladies. It's a shame, it's overrated.

Unfortunately I was disappointed, we were sitting at the pool table on the 1st floor in a large group, we could hardly talk and it was very uncomfortable. The food was rather poor for the price and hardly salted. There was no option to add salt. The fish was too dry and without lemon and 3/5 people felt bad after the schnitzel that same evening. :( the cranberries only came after the schnitzel had been cold for a long time, and it was on top of the potato salad, which made everything a huge slush on the plate. In the end, everyone smelled of frying fat, which is not what you really want for the price and the occasion. :/

Very famous place for their renowned weiner schnitzel... it's crowded, it's very noisy, food is really good and service is good too. It's a very traditional restaurant that serves aprox. 600 weiner schnitzels on a normal day. The meat comes with a potato salad which you can change to different side alternatives. I saw yesterday the meat comes with a lemon you have to squeeze on top... very recommended to do that. Portions are big, so if you are not too hungry, order the weiner schnitzel to share. I have to say that at our table, all the locals + all the visitors ate the full portion, except for the only american guy that was with us... LOL. Food and conversation was soo good I forgot to take pictures. P.S. They have a vegan schnitzel option!!

…where German-French cuisine meets pure, unfiltered arrogance the fiery wrath of the rudest Italian waiter to ever set foot in the service industry. The restaurant was packed, of course. Not because the food is that good, but because there’s some major Fair happening in town, and the owners clearly decided, Why not cram in as many people as possible and milk the moment for all it’s worth? Comfort? Who needs it? Ambience? Who cares! If you enjoy being treated like an inconvenience, love waiting 45 minutes for 45 Euro schnitzel then book a table.
