The food was excellent, truly impressive from start to finish. We also found the prices completely reasonable for what you get. However, the service was a bit odd, not very welcoming, and rather rude when it came to special requests. We found that quite inappropriate. When you're spending several hundred euros on an evening like this, you expect at least high-quality service... only the guy with the blond braid was really good and accommodating! The others were more so-so 😐 We'd love to come back anyway!

We spent the weekend in Mainz and read about the restaurants in Falstaff magazine. The Bootshaus has deservedly received very good reviews. Elegant, unusual, but not overly pretentious. The staff was very attentive and friendly, and we had good conversations with them. The food was perfect. We had the appetizers for two: my husband had the beef roulade, and I had the tagliatelle with fried chanterelle mushrooms. Everything tasted great and was very attractively presented. We will reserve a table there again for next year's BVB away game. Absolutely top-notch!

One of the most lovely meals we have had in Germany this trip. Came here on a rainy Wednesday for lunch, SLIM, our server, took such good care of us and helping to celebrate my husband‘s birthday. The mussels were outstanding and the beautiful wine even better. Thank you so much for making this such a great experience.

Very nice ambiance. We were there for the second time. Excellent service, fresh, good ingredients in the food. It was amazing how tiny raviolini still managed to get their filling. Where in Germany can you get moules/frites? The best hand cheese variation I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying...

This was our first time at the Bootshaus and unfortunately also our last. Very nice location but the service only became attentive after I complained about the food. I had to go to the front of the counter to complain because I had unfortunately been ignored beforehand. The raviolini were not drenched in nut butter as expected but in herb oil and were also hard except for the cut edges. The corn-fed chicken and side dish had to be searched for on the plate and the taste was unfortunately off. Price/performance ratio was unfortunately far from ideal. The service did try to salvage the situation at the end by offering an alternative main course or dessert but that wouldn't have saved the evening. What a shame about such a lovely restaurant.

I never want to eat here again. The service is unfriendly and rude, as if it were provided by part-time students. We ate at an outdoor table, but there were cockroaches. There are also hygiene issues.

Excellent food (pork fillet with morel cream sauce) with a very good wine to match (incognito, Philipp Kuhn from the Palatinate). Accessible I was there in my wheelchair. View of the Rhine. Joshua (great server) was kind enough to lift me into the car. That was the icing on the cake for this dinner outing. I would gladly go back anytime. I highly recommend this restaurant.

The ambiance, right on the water, is truly beautiful and invites you to linger. Unfortunately, the food wasn't impressive. I had oysters with vinaigrette for starters, which unfortunately didn't seem particularly fresh or flavorful. The main course was a large shrimp salad, which also wasn't very flavorful. The service was particularly negative: If you just want a drink while sitting outside on the sun loungers and go to the self-service counter, none of the staff seem to feel responsible. We had to wait over 30 minutes before anyone even took our order. The staff seemed consistently unfriendly and uninspired, almost condescending; unfortunately, a sense of welcome was lacking. We gave the restaurant two chances, but won't be returning.

On a trip to Mainz, we discovered the Bootshaus restaurant. We were taking a stroll along the riverbank and there was this inviting restaurant. It was busy that evening, but we were lucky and got a nice seat by the window. The service was very attentive and friendly; we immediately felt at home. We quickly found what we were looking for on the menu and ordered a delicious dinner. We had a wonderful dinner at the Bootshaus Mainz. First of all, it's by no means cheap, but the food was consistently delicious. The service was friendly and polite. The ambiance and the weather certainly contributed to the wonderful dinner. The beef tartare was very good. Burrata was also good, but actually a bit overpriced. The main course was fried zander and rump steak. The zander sounded more sophisticated on the menu than it actually turned out to be. The wine selection was decent. We'll be back.

A super location, we came spontaneous and got a place outside on a picnic table. Not full on a Sunday evening, gorgeous view. We also had wonderful weather. My husband had a typical local dish, "Hand Käse" and I ordered Tagliatelle. The food was disappointing, my pasta was rather strips of thick pancakes, and the other dish was a fast food version of the original. The price paid for the view and location. You would think that they could manage simple food, which wasn't the case. Good that we didn't attempt something more sophisticated. Still worth the experience...just keep your expectations low on the food.

During our short vacation in Mainz, we spontaneously passed by the boathouse – located right on the Rhine, with a truly beautiful view of the water. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, perfect for a quick break. We treated ourselves to a piece of cake that was not only delicious but also really fresh. With a cup of coffee and a view of the Rhine, we were able to truly savor the moment. A great place for a little break – we'll definitely be back.

The latest reviews have unfortunately confirmed this… The Bootshaus has clearly lost some of its charm and quality. The food is truly underwhelming (very small schnitzel, potato salad with stale-tasting potatoes), and the price is therefore completely unreasonable. The service is also really not up to par with what the Bootshaus aims to be. Quite unfriendly, slow, and the phone is unanswered. Too bad! We won't be coming back anytime soon.

There were six of us at the Bootshaus today and we had a reservation. The initial service, after we were shown to our table, was quick but unmotivated. The location is beautifully situated by the Mainz marina with a view of the Rhine. There is an indoor and a terrace area. The food selection is very good and appears to be of high quality. The final quality, however, was rather mixed. We had several starters: a burrata, which was tasty but much too small for the €18 it offered for a burrata on salad with truly delicious bread chips; the marinated fjord salmon, which was good; and both Handkäs and Spundekäs, which were both good. The main course consisted of rump steaks, which were also very good; a corn-fed poulard, which was a bit too dry and didn't really impress us in terms of flavor; and an overall delicious tagliatelle in a chanterelle sauce with truffle, which was far too small in portion size. The rump steaks cost €36, the chicken €30, and the tagliatelle €26. Apart from the rump steaks, the food was mediocre at high prices. The service was disappointing. The first drinks arrived quickly, but when we reordered, we had to repeatedly point out that a local beer had been forgotten. After receiving the dessert menu, we were completely forgotten.

We were at the Bootshaus in Mainz for lunch, and unfortunately, the experience was a bit mixed. The atmosphere is nice, the concept seems appealing – but the service and coordination are clearly lacking. We ordered a bread basket with dip and oysters. The bread basket arrived quite quickly – but only for my husband. My oysters took almost 30 minutes to arrive, even though we were told they would be "right away." In the meantime, the bread basket had already been eaten, the drinks (water and prosecco) were empty, and we sat somewhat lost at the table. The main course – mussels with fries – arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The mussels were okay, served in a vegetable broth, solid in flavor, but not particularly refined. One real shortcoming was the service: Empty plates remained on the table for a long time, and no one came by to clear them. In the end, we placed them on the neighboring table ourselves. We also had to wait quite a long time for the bill. The service was apparently handled by just one person, who was visibly overwhelmed – while other employees retreated or chatted with colleagues in the kitchen. Conclusion: The Bootshaus has potential, but the service urgently needs to be better organized and more present. Even in quieter moments, guests shouldn't feel forgotten. For a restaurant with this level of quality and price, the overall experience was unfortunately disappointing.

Stylish venue in a beautiful location in Mainz's Winterhafen with a fantastic view. The food and service were all spot on, especially the value for money. We'd be happy to return. It's a shame we're from far away.

Great location - free parking BUT completely overpriced and even stupid comments. We had visitors who traveled a long way and had booked a table by the window with a view of the Rhine weeks in advance. The table we were assigned in the apparently fully booked restaurant was unfortunately in the far corner. When we asked the staff if a better seat was available, the response was, "Do you see something I don't?" That was a bit rude. The food... extremely well-arranged... the mussels could be counted on two hands - one was even closed - the currywurst was substandard, the fries were probably already on their third trip through the fryer, and the salmon fillet was served with four small potatoes - for 33 euros - well, you don't treat yourself otherwise. In the end, 150 euros changed hands... and they probably also accidentally charged for two beers too many - I only realized that when I got home, my own fault. Our conclusion: a truly beautiful location, but with service that could be improved, and overpriced food that could have been much better. What a pity. The ambiance was great, but everything else was a flop. - The service was simply nonexistent. Even the employees at McDonald's are more efficient and friendly. It seemed as if only certain customers were served in a friendly and courteous manner. - The food was tasteless and didn't live up to the high price.

The ambience is nice - it's hard to spoil that - and the service is lousy; any cheap cafe would be better. I sat at table 205 for 30 minutes today. The waiter ignored me for 30 minutes, but he served two tables away at table 203. I got up five minutes ago. I can recommend table 205 to anyone looking for a free table and not to be served. The waiter is too good to sit there. If there are special conditions for the table, the customers should be informed. That was my very first and definitely last visit to the Bootshaus. Good can be better. And if I want self-service, I go to a self-service bakery. I can't recommend anything here because I wasn't even served. Apparently they're too rich here to serve everyone.

Very nice restaurant on the Main with good food and very friendly staff

The food and drinks were excellent! The ambiance is beautiful, making you feel like you're on vacation. The service could be improved. Our drinks were initially forgotten, but after reminding us three times, they delivered two more. All the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Overall, we felt comfortable here and would love to come back.

Unfortunately, our repeat visit wasn't a good experience! We waited 1 1/4 hours for our food (never happened before) and received no advance notice. Other guests who arrived much later received their food in about 10 minutes. The wait wasn't worth it either. The menu listed "Tagliatelle in Salmon Cream Sauce," and we were served thin pasta in a puréed pink sauce with a light salmon flavor. When we paid, our comment "we've never waited this long here before" was met with a simple "yes, okay." That's not okay! After that, we were unable to communicate further with the staff. What a shame, one less restaurant on our list!

My opinion. My impression. Always superb and delicious. The location is a dream. The ambiance is very tasteful. The prices are on the high side for my taste.

Unfortunately, I can't say anything about the food, as we weren't served. From the moment we were seated, we didn't receive a "good evening" or anything like that, just the menus arrived promptly. After being ignored for 40 minutes, we left. All in all, it's a real shame, since the prices are rather high.

Yesterday we were guests at the Boathouse, and the food was truly delicious and very good. Our main waiter (Joshua) was also fantastic, very attentive, very helpful, especially with our little daughter who was with us, and just incredibly personable (he gave him a 5/5 rating for service). The evening could have been truly perfect if one of the waiters hadn't made a really negative impression after handing out the menus by saying to my wife, "Well, you probably didn't understand anything anyway." I absolutely don't understand, and I still don't understand, where that came from or why that sentence was said, but some of the people there definitely need to work on their people skills!

Service was a bit disorganized. They asked about the main course, even though we hadn't even had it yet. Drinks and food were passed across the table. Starters were good. Moules and fries were very mediocre, with a tasteless sauce, and mussels that seemed frozen. The interior ambiance was very plain.

We were looking forward to this restaurant because we had already enjoyed dinner with Frank Buchholz at his cooking school. The atmosphere is fantastic. Unfortunately, the food wasn't as creative or as good as it was at the school. The service was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The only downside was that the chairs scraped loudly against the floor whenever someone stood up. It was uncomfortable. We'll be back anyway.

We were there with a small group, including children. Very good location of the restaurant, with a view of the Rhine. We found the prices reasonable and the portion sizes reasonable. Especially when prices for starters are sometimes the same as for main courses. Service, to be honest, tried hard, not very professional.

During a bike ride we happened to drive past the boathouse and spontaneously decided to stop for a cold drink. When we looked at the menu we couldn't resist. We enjoyed a delicious lunch of Raviolini Plin and Vitello Tonnato. 😋 The service was very attentive, the boss, Frank Buchholz, worked diligently outside and inside to make sure everything was in order. It was only later that we realized that he was known as a TV chef. All I can say is that we would love to come back for such fine food. 😀

We (“three girls”) would have liked to have had a coffee (and maybe more) in the boathouse on May 1st, 2025, but unfortunately we were turned away by Philipp in a very arrogant and arrogant manner (his look was clear), even though there were still tables available! Too bad...

Our visit to the boathouse was wonderful from A to Z. Very attentive, courteous and extremely friendly service. Great view of the winter harbor, the Rhine and the Mainz cathedral silhouette in a deeply relaxed atmosphere. Drinks (Aperol Spritz and French sparkling wine) are perfectly served in highly polished matching glasses, just like in the star restaurant. The careful eye on the details makes the music here. Great, nutty Gillardeau oysters for starters!! And a well-prepared Breton Moules & Frites main course with large mussels in fresh, millimeter-cut, intense Mirepoix vegetable stock and with crispy, perfectly fried French fries - almost like in Normandy! Everything is extremely clean and pleasantly elegant. A little short break from everyday life that we will look for more often in the future. Thanks to the Bootshaus team!

A spontaneous visit resulted in a guest experience in the “underground” category: a busy afternoon on one of the first warm days of spring. I stand with my dog ​​as the second person waiting in front of the barrier, behind which the hopeful guest enters the area where they will be served. After about 3 minutes it's my turn. The US-style placement craze that has been introduced on a mass scale in Germany with Corona puts the guest in this country in the position of supplicant. While in the USA the guests in restaurants in this price category are treated extremely courteously and friendly, people looked at me with a silent question. Well, what will she want, the lady with the dog (to paraphrase Chekhov)? Certainly not begging the guests or doing any other impropriety! After I expressed my request to the stern "gentlemen", he said everything was reserved (inside there was only a maximum of 100 percent occupied, outside there would definitely have been room for one person for 30 minutes - I didn't dare bother the "gentlemen" with my presence and my cash any longer anyway. Without any friendliness or a tone of regret, I was left standing. Thirsty, I turned to the hearty tables that are in the outside area opposite the self-service bar. As soon as I was sitting there, a waiter shot up to me and reprimanded me: "The colleague just told you..." A short discussion ensued in which I had to fight to be allowed to get a cappuccino myself! At the counter, I noticed to the waiter that, given how overwhelmed I was, I didn't want to stress her out by asking for lactose-free milk. His short answer was: "Hamm, who doesn't anyway? 7 euros with a deposit"!! I was made to wait for the change. Please and/or thank you did not appear in the vocabulary of the "service" staff. At the beginning of the Bootshaus's history, we ate here several times (including with business partners) - there was always a noticeable price-performance discrepancy - but today's appearance has finally outclassed the restaurant as the cheering hut of the Mainz parvenus.

Atmosphere is the best. With a great view over the Winterhafen, great for sunset, outdoor spaces and beautifully decorated and full of light. Food was globally good but way too expensive for the quality. At this price we expected a higher level and got disappointed. Mainly for the 14€ dessert we did not even finish.as.the rum cream was highly questionable and wasting the rest of the apple pie.

I normally recommend this restaurant but our last visit was very disappointing. The waiter wasn't very friendly. We ordered meat and one piece was too fatty. So we told the waitress. The chef came and said with a very arrogant attitude that it was normal to have fatty meat. As an apology he offered us a free expresso. In the end they still charged us for the expresso. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere. We hope you work on kindness.

Despite the appealing ambience and my high expectations of the restaurant, the service experience was extremely disappointing. The waitress was rude and showed a discriminatory attitude. When politely asked whether additional bread could be served, the response was condescending, “That costs money for us.” Although the taste of the food was convincing, the portions were clearly too small. When I pointed this out, I received the remarkable response: "If you don't like the portion size, you should never order here again." Thank you for this experience – definitely a last visit for me.

We had dinner at the Boathouse. The location is great. The service could be better. Unfortunately, it took forever to place our drink orders. The appetizer arrived at the same time as the drinks. Certainly not recommended. Just disappointing. On our first visit at coffee time, the cake we ordered was brought long after coffee and only when asked. Today, March 16, 2025, coffee was brought at coffee time and no cake that was ordered was brought. But it was on the table receipt. With 6 service staff counted, no one felt called upon to bring the cake we ordered. We will not visit the boathouse again in the future. Once can happen, but twice is already sad. And what makes it even more difficult is that not a single word of regret was found. No corresponding word, such as sorry, that won't appear again.

Very nice location with a great view. Unfortunately, that was pretty much it. Were there at 6 p.m. and were initially greeted with the fact that three dishes from the not-too-large menu were no longer available. After a bit of a wait, starters were gradually served over 20 minutes. Otherwise, we found the dishes to be significantly overpriced and sometimes served very carelessly for the high prices (sea bream for 2 people: €80!! On the plate there was a fillet without anything - see photo (to be fair, it tasted good) and a small bowl with 4 very small potatoes and a very small bowl with some sauce, which you then had to share). The raviolini also caused a lot of irritation. Atypical recipe and a mini portion. Overall, it's a shame.

Culinary excursion destination at the winter harbor The Bootshaus restaurant in the Mainz Rowing Club building is run by Frank Buchholz. Since the closure of the star restaurant in downtown Mainz, his sous chef has been cooking in the boat house. The kitchen offers a small selection of well-known kitchen classics and creative dishes, which are prepared with the best product quality and a high level of culinary craftsmanship. In the winter months, the terrace restaurant on the Victor-Hugo-Ufer directly on the Rhine and at the marina offers a warm, cozy dining room. The service is exceptionally attentive and friendly - we immediately felt at home. You should definitely try the bread basket with olive oil and spreads for an incredible 3 euros. The bread comes from Gonsenheim cult baker and bread sommelier Mario Peter Berg, who developed an incredibly delicious bread together with Frank Buchholz. It's nice that you can also buy it pre-baked so that you can enjoy it freshly baked and crispy at home. The tuna sashimi was perfect and clearly gourmet quality. My beef roulade on nut butter mashed potatoes and carrot vegetables was wonderful soul food. Housewife cuisine 2.0: A dish that has been familiar since childhood, prepared at a star level. The tender beef and the sensationally aromatic sauce were a dream - for me the perfect meal for a cold winter evening. For us, the visit to the boathouse was a culinary feel-good experience. Here the ambience, service and cuisine complement each other perfectly.

The absolute hammer was the buttery tender “halved roulade”, which was cleverly placed on the mashed potatoes. The statement that it is a lunch menu is also not possible - it should at least be pointed out on the menu that it is only half a roulade. Chance makes it possible. Very, very nice service staff. A very tempting memory card. My steak was on point. I am impressed. Unfortunately it was already dark outside and there wasn't much to see of the banks of the Rhine. Not even from the mouth of the Main into the Rhine. But I'll get it at a warmer time of year. Thumbs up.

It's been a few weeks since our visit and I've been struggling to find the right descriptive words ever since. A beautifully decorated restaurant; Located directly on the Rhine...certainly even more beautiful in summer. The reputation of the operator and the menu fuel the hope of a successful visit. One can expect that from a former star chef the simpler dishes on offer have a certain kick that elevates them above the usual level. As a reference, I have in mind the grape in Meddersheim (which has now changed ownership). What happens next can be summarized as follows: There is a lack of love! The food is delivered at a rapid pace, making for a relaxing evening. The food is only of an average standard, which has no correlation to the price charged. Only the cream of porcini mushroom soup showed that you definitely have what it takes to do more. You would be prosecuted in Belgium for the fries with the mussels. Overall, we didn't feel welcomed by either the service or the kitchen, which I regret. Everyone is blessed to have a happy time there, but we will save ourselves a 100km journey in the future. Wir hatten eine fantastische Dorade, ein sehr gutes Steak und eine schmackhafte Roulade. Ziemlich lecker ist auch der Beilagensalat und der Wildkräutersalat zur Vorspeise. Alles sehr, sehr lecker! Unser Highlight war der Nachtisch: Apfeltarte! Wir fanden es sehr gemütlich und die Bedienung war top! Preis angemessen. Wir kommen gerne wieder! Dann esse ich die Muscheln ;-)

This was an excellent experience for the family on Christmas Day. The host Slim was very cordial and spoke English to us. The food was probably the best we’ve had in over a year. Wonderful pairings, meat that almost melted in our mouths it was so tender. I would definitely come back.

We always wanted to go to the boathouse in Mainz and it wasn't the last time we were here. The food was excellent in a very nice atmosphere. The service was also courteous and attentive. We felt completely comfortable and are already looking forward to the next time.

We went to the boathouse for the first time on December 14, 2024 on the occasion of our family Christmas get-together and were completely thrilled! The inviting and tasteful ambience was very, very beautifully and attractively decorated for Christmas. The food was a show for us! All the dishes we ordered were consistently excellent, tasted at a top level, presented to the eye and no overloaded plates! The service was very attentive and very friendly. And last but not least: a super friendly and down-to-earth host who came to the tables, exchanged words and, if requested, was happy to take a photo together! That certainly wasn't the last time we were there, even though we had the longest journey from the Lower Rhine. Many thanks to Frank Buchholz and his entire team! You gave us a wonderful evening that we will remember very fondly!

Das Restaurant Bootshaus im Gebäude des Mainzer Rudervereins wird von Frank Buchholz betrieben. Seit der Schließung des Sternerestaurants in der Mainzer Innenstadt kocht sein Sous-Chef im Bootshaus. Die Küche bietet eine kleine Auswahl an bekannten Küchenklassikern und kreativen Gerichten, die auf bester Produktqualität und küchenhandwerklich hohem Niveau zubereitet werden. In den Wintermonaten bietet das Terrassenrestaurant am Victor-Hugo-Ufer direkt am Rhein und am Yachthafen einen warm-gemütlichen Gastraum. Der Service ist außergewöhnlich aufmerksam und freundlich - wir haben uns sofort wohl gefühlt. Unbedingt probieren sollten Sie den Brotkorb mit Olivenöl und Aufstrichen für unglaubliche 3 Euro. Das Brot stammt vom Gonsenheimer Kultbäcker und Brotsommelier Mario Peter Berg, der zusammen mit Frank Buchholz ein unglaublich leckeres Brot entwickelt hat. Schön, daß man es auch vorgebacken kaufen kann um es dann zuhause knusprig frisch aufgebacken zu genießen. Das Thunfisch-Sashimi war perfekt und hatte eindeutig Gourmetqualität. Meine Rinderroulade auf Nussbutter-Kartoffelpüree und Karottengemüse war wunderbares Soulfood. Hausfrauenküche 2.0: Ein seit Kindheitstagen vertrautes Gericht auf Sterneniveau zubereitet. Das zarte Rindfleisch und die sensationell aromatische Soße waren ein Traum - für mich das perfekte Essen für einen kalten Winterabend. Für uns war der Besuch im Bootshaus ein ein kulinarisches Wohlfühl-Erlebnis. Hier ergänzen sich Ambiente,Service und Küche perfekt.

Wir waren geschäftlich zu Besuch im Bootshaus Mainz. Die großartige Lage direkt am Rhein mit Blick auf den Winterhafen sorgt für eine entspannte und angenehme Atmosphäre. Im Sommer kann man dort toll an Tischen draußen direkt am Wasser sitzen. Die Speisen sind köstlich und das freundliche sowie sehr aufmerksame Personal sorgt dafür, dass man sich rundum wohlfühlt. Ein Besuch im Bootshaus ist definitiv eine Empfehlung für jeden, der gutes Essen mit einer aufregenden Aussicht genießen möchte.

Very expensive, even by current standards. There are no vegetarian or vegan dishes on the menu, but something is available upon request. Like in the 90s. The service was good and everyone enjoyed the food.

Naja, hätte man besser machen können. Schnellabfertigung (Aperitif, Vorspeise, Hauptspeise) unter einer Stunde - spricht nicht für gute Gastlichkeit. Personal sehr bemüht, was sich in der ständigen Unterbrechung unserer Unterhaltungen äussert. Amuse-Gueule Fehlanzeige. Vorspeise meines Mannes (Steinpilzsuppe) war sehr gut. Bei meiner Vorspeise (Burrata) habe ich den Ruccola abbestellt. Hat funktioniert, allerdings recht lieblos (aufgeschnittene Tomaten und Burrata, ohne Gewürz oder Deko auf einem wackelnden Teller serviert). Pfeffer, Salz und Öl dazu auf den Tisch gestellt. Hauptspeise ebenfalls lieblos serviert, geschmacklich ok, aber nichts Besonderes. Mein Mann hatte Moules frites, Muscheln geschmacklich ok, es gab Tiefkühlpommes dazu. Espresso lauwarm, noch. nicht mal ein kleiner Keks dazu Unsere Erwartung an gehobene Gastlichkeit zu diesen Preisen ist deutlich anders. Für zusammen EUR 120,00 kann ich woanders wesentlich besser, geschmackvoller und schöner angerichtet essen.
