Very tasty food in the great dining room on the 1st floor. Service extremely friendly. We were here in spring and will definitely be back.

We had dinner in the small restaurant on the ground floor. The seating was quite tight and the tables were also very small. Within a few minutes the restaurant was packed. Nevertheless, we had a very nice evening at Engel, as the service was simply great and kept the hustle and bustle under control with remarkable composure and a lot of skill. A mistake in the kitchen (the meat had received too much heat...) was also remedied professionally and friendly. The price/performance ratio is consistent and unmeasured, certainly for Lindau conditions. The wine list is clear but still well sorted. Our wine cooler had to be placed on a neighboring table due to the small table, but that wasn't a problem for either the service or the other guests. In short: it was nice and tasty, thank you very much!

Very good and cheap lunch dishes. We had sour lentils, butter spaetzle, Vienna. Very good portions. Food very appetizingly prepared and served very hot. Products used are high quality. Rustic ambience conveys coziness. Cheap beer. Clean sanitary facilities. Overall, clear recommendation.

When we asked for a free seat, we were turned away very rudely because the restaurant was full. The employee didn't even think it was necessary to look at one. It seemed to us as if the restaurant didn't need to be friendly to potential new customers.

A reservation for more than two people would be better. Super friendly staff and very tasty food. Nice atmosphere, very quaint and authentic.

Because of the good reviews, we wanted to test the restaurant and sat outside. The waitress noticed us but rushed past us. They also didn't respond to my inquiry as to whether we could order something. I am aware that staff are harder to get than a customer, but being ignored for 20 minutes - even if the restaurant was busy - is outrageous. We then got up and went to another restaurant.

Very exciting museum with great architecture. It's worth coming just for the interactive marble run. Experiencing organic food and purchasing it locally all in one is a great concept.

A cozy restaurant where we immediately felt at home. Everything is lovingly prepared and very clean. Our onion roast was excellent and the Kaiserschmarrn was a poem. I would have loved to try every dish that was brought past. The staff very friendly and accommodating. Price performance is completely right here. I can only recommend this place to everyone

Highly recommended! We had reserved a table outside, but then had to wait a few minutes. You sit comfortably in an alley in the old town. We were served very professionally and warmly by Nicole and Andy. The food was great and came very quickly. For me one of the best restaurants on the island in Lindau, we will definitely be back!

We had a very nice stay at Restaurant Engel. We had the schnitzel and the Seibling as a dish. But both delicious. In addition, the service was extremely polite. We can only recommend the store!

Warning: tip added to the bill without telling you! Reassured by the good ratings of this establishment, we went there for dinner. The meal went well, although the dishes were not exceptional. It was when asking for the bill that things got out of hand. The waiter did not bring us the bill, unlike the tables next to us occupied by Germans, but directly the credit card terminal. At the time, I didn't think twice and paid. Then it seemed to us that it was a little expensive compared to what we had ordered. I then asked the waiter for the bill and I felt that he was embarrassed and I saw him talking to his colleague about it. Then, I requested several times for this invoice which was slow in coming. Once on the table, I noticed that it was partly damp, as if by chance at the precise place where I was billed for the tip, and as a result the line was erased. I have a hard time thinking that it's a coincidence. I find this “forced tipping” process bordering on dishonesty and I even wonder if it is legal? Unless I'm mistaken, it seems to me that in Germany, as in France, service is included in restaurants and tipping is therefore at the customer's discretion. We travel a lot and are in the habit, unless there is an incident, of systematically leaving a tip. If we had not noticed that the amount charged was abnormal, we would probably have left a few euros on the table while you had already charged a tip yourself without telling us... In addition, looking at the other customer photos , we find a photo of an invoice on which no tip is charged: it is therefore according to the "head of the customer"!!! Mr. or Madam restaurateur, this way of proceeding does not honor you...

The food was good. The sausage salad and the cordon bleu were good, the fried potatoes were great. Service only 4 🌟 because a dish was forgotten and the two of them were overwhelmed at rush hour. Too much to do for 4 hands

Because of the good reviews we decided to visit the restaurant. Unfortunately we cannot share the good rating. We had grilled pork chops, unfortunately they were very "firm" or tough. The atmosphere outside was quite uncomfortable due to the large crowds and the service was slightly overwhelmed and, in our opinion, not very organized.

Absolute arrogance! Wanted to make a reservation outside for 4 people (business lunch). Estimated turnover 320 to 350 euros. Were not welcome. Instead, cross the border to Vorarlberg. As a Lindau you have to be ashamed to have such a restaurant. It confirms my opinion of the island. Just don't set foot on it while the tourists are clogging up everything.

Chosen at random and pleasantly surprised. On the one hand, it is well attended, but anyone who comes spontaneously has to wait, even if they improvise skillfully. Better reserve. Very nice service, friendly, with a warm charm and at eye level. You have to bring time. But that should be easy, the building is beautiful and the location in the old town promises variety. We liked the food. Good, local quality and selection, nicely arranged and not convenient from what I could see. Fairly priced. Not a given for a tourist place and for us a successful end to our visit to the island.

We ate here last year and the Wiener Schnitzel was excellent. This year we were unlucky with the service. The two of us were seated at a table of 4 with other guests, not perfect but okay. After 10 minutes we were finally able to order, the lady took half the order, the phone rang, she disappeared, after 10 more minutes the lady came and took the orders from the other guests, she ignored us. We then got up and left, sorry but you don't have to put up with this bad service

The food was delicious. One time we ordered shrimp, fish, fried potatoes, and French fries. It was a delicious restaurant. I recommend it. The food was beautiful. I had it by the lake.

We ordered dessert. I do not recommend. The portion was small and tasting bad. Also waitress did not care to even ask how it was tasting. Meanwhile other tables are asked. When I had meal earlier at this place it was also tasting way better than those desserts. If you will not serve tasty dessert, do not put it in the menu.

10 out of 10 or 5 out of 5! We went to the Gast- u. Bierstube Engel in Lindau today and we really, really enjoyed it! Advice, service, drinks and food were simply top 🤩. As lovers of Austrian and Italian wine, we received great advice here and were treated to fantastic food and good wines from the Lake Constance region! We'll definitely come back 😊. We ate two excellent meals within a week. One time, pork cordon bleu and roast pork with dumplings, the second time, veal cordon bleu and Wiener schnitzel. The cordon bleu and the schnitzel are among the best versions we have ever eaten. Both very juicy. The potato cucumber salad with it was also simply delicious. On both evenings, every table was occupied and there were already guests standing in front of the restaurant to take a free table, but the service staff were still very friendly and concerned about good service. A clear recommendation for this house :)

We had schnitzel and baked meat, both very good. The service was very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is nice and rustic, we particularly liked the space in the bay window with a bit of a view.

We were there in the evening and there were a lot of people. Then we asked if we could come in an hour. She said yes. We asked her explicitly again whether she needed the name. She said no. Then we came again in an hour and she said the kitchen was closed. Very cheeky!!!

Lindau simply doesn't work without Restaurant Engel! For years we have been going to Restaurant Engel at least once or twice during our stay at Lake Constance on the island of Lindau. For us an institution on the island. Why? Great regional and, above all, homemade food with incredibly good service in a wonderful ambience. When the weather is good, I prefer to be outside. We are always amazed at how Nicole and Andy manage to take personal care of all the guests despite the tables being completely occupied and always have a smile on their face and a few nice words on their lips. Great! At this point a big compliment and thank you very much! Without a reservation it will be very difficult, especially on weekends. We are already looking forward to the next time.

Charming restaurant. The service is unique, the waitress always has a smile on their faces. It is ensured that the guest is 100% satisfied without being intrusive. Even when the house is full, there is no rush due to the good teamwork and you don't have to wait too long for the food. It's best to reserve a spot during peak times, or you'll have to wait 10 to 15 minutes. The dishes are bombastic. Beautifully prepared and super delicious! This restaurant is an absolute recommendation. Unfortunately I can only give a maximum of 5 stars, this restaurant deserves more!

The onion roast with fried potatoes is awesome. Add a Paulaner special and everything is fine. In addition, the wonderful furnishings in the room look like an old Bavarian inn and the super friendly and courteous staff, despite the room being full. I will definitely come back here on my next visit to Lindau :) Thanks!

Traditional Germanic location with plenty of tasty food options and stylish interior. The schnitzel was delicious and so were the cheesy noodles. Service was friendly although a little slow at times. This location is not cheap, but definitely one of the best options if you are looking for tasty food in the area! Would highly recommend!

We were at Restaurant Engel yesterday and are still thrilled. Nicole and Andi made sure that we got a table even without a reservation and served us very nicely. For the woman there was a salad with fish and for the man the Cordon Bleu, both very tasty and well prepared, we will definitely come back 😁

We happened to be at Restaurant Engel today and had a very, very nice evening! The Wiener Schnitzel was the best schnitzel I have ever eaten - absolutely recommended. The highlight, however, were Nicole & Andy: two kind-hearted waitresses who rounded off the evening perfectly. Even though the house was full, you took care of every wish perfectly. The Restaurant Engel is an absolute recommendation for Lindau ☺️

Absolutely excellent, TOP! Unfortunately only 5 stars are possible, this restaurant deserves 6 stars. Food great and plentiful. I had Maultaschen, very good. Drinks are great, there is Augustiner beer (from Munich) on tap. It's not cheap but the prices are completely reasonable. The young service staff are nice and attentive, very smart in lederhosen. The rooms are essentially a museum with roots going back to the 14th century. No parking spaces directly in front of the restaurant.

This ancient economy is something very special.

Classic on Lindau Island, always well attended, reservations make sense! High-quality cuisine, fast, friendly service. The small guest room on the ground floor has close seating, but is very cozy and nicely furnished. On the 1st floor there is more Plath, a nice, time-honored atmosphere. Kaiserschmarren is one of the best on the island!

Very nice restaurant, the prices are high, but you also get quality. Even though it was very busy, there was no rush. Service was quick and nice. Definitely worth recommending.

We have reserved a table for 6-8 p.m. Without a reservation you won't get a seat. At first we were afraid that two hours wouldn't be enough, but the service staff was courteous and the food was on the table quickly. We had veal cordon bleu and onion roast and both were very, very good. For dessert we had the “small” Kaiserschmarrn and the chocolate soufflé.

Although not everything that was shown on the menu was there, the food was very good, the service was friendly and accommodating and the location was appealing. In the end we were able to pay by card. We would visit again.

Everything is really right here. The service was so courteous and quick, even though it was packed. The young waitresses and waiters do it really well! The restaurant is super cozy/griy and there is Augustiner on tap, which creates a solid basis. The food was hearty and really good. Bring your appetite, even after a 6 hour hike we couldn't manage the starter and main course 😅

A little hidden in Schafgasse - a wonderful place to stop off. Great rustic atmosphere with delicious dishes. What should be highlighted is the warm service, where you feel welcome!!! This is no longer a given today. We will stop there again on our next visit to Lindau and can highly recommend “Den Engel”.

I recently had dinner with a friend at Engel. To my horror, I discovered shards of glass in my salad. After I pointed this out to the waitress, the response wasn't particularly cooperative. Your reaction to how we handle payments. Whether I want to pay half or whether I want to pay nothing. Unfortunately, that was her only worry! It wasn't a question of whether everything was okay. After the waitress had to leave straight away, she came back ten minutes later and asked again how we would go about paying. During the conversation it became clear that I wasn't the only guest with broken pieces in their food, because shards of glass flew into the prepared salad in the kitchen. No responsibility was taken on site, which really shocked us! Something like this can happen, in the end it's how you deal with it that counts! We definitely won't visit the angel again!

The MUST of Lindau!! We were warmly welcomed by the waiters who were absolutely adorable and loved their work. The waitress, converted from her first job as a nurse, is so adorable. Charming and positive. She draws something positive from a terrible time. At Engel you feel right at home! Bravo for your delicious and typical cuisine!

Despite the house being pretty full, the nice lady from the service took a lot of effort to free up two more seats. The food was really strong. Really great home cooking. (Haxen was awesome) Service was really nice and we will definitely come back. But maybe I'll make a reservation next time, then the staff will be less stressed. Kind regards, Sven

The food was super tasty. Yes, I don't really like goulash but it was very good, my friend likes it too. the drinks were good too. That was very large portions for us. But you need some time for it. The waiters were very helpful and friendly.

Scheinbar gibt es 2 gasträume in diesem restaurant. Wir waren in dem unteren, der ziemlich klein ist. dafür ist er super rustikal und liebevoll eingerichtet. Zu 100% überzeugt hat uns das essen und der service. Bedienung flott und freundlich , essen war schnell serviert. Die Qualität der speisen hat aber alles noch übertroffen. Wir hatten ein käsesüppchen zum reinkniehen, ein wundervolles frisches schnitzel, mit sicherheit nicht aus der Tiefkühltruhe wie man das sonst kennt, und ein hirschgulasch das seinen gleichen sucht ! Zum nachtisch kaiserschmarn und ein schokoküchlein mit lavakern .... zum dahinschmelzen. Vollgefressen und wunschlos glücklich verließen wir das restaurant. Sehr zu empfehlen, aber vorher reservieren

Fleisch zäh (Schnitzel und Zwiebelrostbraten), Salat nicht wirklich angemacht, Eis in heißer Schale serviert. Schade. Tolles Ambiente und sehr zuvorkommendes Personal.

Das Restaurant befindet sich im 1. Stock des Hotels. Essen reichlich und sehr lecker in schönem Ambiente. Personal aufmerksam und sehr nett. Preise sind auch in Ordnung. Man hat Glück, wenn man ohne Reservierung noch einen freien Platz bekommt. 😅 Ein Versuch ist es allemal wert.
