Berggasthof Seealpe in Oberstdorf

We hiked to the Seealpe from Obersdorf on a weekday in fantastic weather. It had snowed the day before, and there was up to 80cm of snow on the Nebelhorn. With blue skies and sunshine, it was a perfect outing, including a stop at the Seealpe. The Germknödel (yeast dumplings) and vanilla sauce were divine. 🥰

Sorry 🤗 Unfortunately, there are no pictures of the goulash soup and the Kaiserschmarrn – they were so delicious and devoured in no time. All we can say is: come up here and try it for yourselves. The Kaiserschmarrn is truly homemade and, for me, the best I've ever had (and I've had quite a few). The ambiance inside is exactly what you'd imagine a traditional inn to be like, especially one high up in the mountains. Very cozy, warm, and decorated with love. The staff are truly very nice and friendly. We weren't there for the first time, and certainly not the last.

Delicious regional food with a wide selection, a fantastic view from the sun terrace, and reasonable prices for the location. As with many mountain inns, only cash payments are accepted.

I've rarely eaten so badly for so much money. The icing on the cake are the careless Reibedatschi (potato pancakes). Three small pieces of frozen potato pancakes from the deep fryer, without any decoration, for €11. What's that all about? At least mention that they're lousy frozen potato pancakes. Nobody wants them. I feel like I've been made a fool of.

Hiked down from the Nebelhorn to the inn, took a short break, and had a very good meal with attentive service and a fantastic view of Oberstdorf!🫶

On your way to the Nebelhorn, you should definitely get off the cable car here and enjoy the wonderful view of Oberstdorf and the delicious food. Fast service, good value for money, and ice-cold drinks in the summer. A very large outdoor area, although the west side is preferable in nice weather.

Beautiful beer garden. We only had a drink, and the waitress Katharina was super nice (we had a different experience several times during our Oberstdorf vacation!). We'll definitely be back with Katharina the next time we're in Oberstdorf. And then with more time for food and a glass of buttermilk 😉

After a short hike, we stopped at the Seealpe mountain inn. We had a table outside but wanted to sit inside because it was too cold. On the way there, we were given the beer we had ordered and were able to take it inside. When we got inside, we received a very unfriendly welcome and were seated right next to the entrance, even though there were several tables free inside. The service staff were apparently overwhelmed having to book a table from outside to inside! We weren't even asked after our meal. Apparently, the messages on our phones were more important! To top it all off, though, we had paid for the beer inside and were greeted rather rudely on the way out: "Pay for the beer with me!" It couldn't be more unfriendly. I would not recommend it!

I don't understand all the positive reviews about the Kaiserschmarrn. The dough itself is okay, but the Kaiserschmarrn is caramelized, which is absolutely disgusting and way too sweet. You just have lumps of sugar in your mouth. It has nothing to do with Kaiserschmarrn for me. The hot chocolate is just milk with a bit of cocoa powder. It tasted almost entirely of milk. Learn how to make hot chocolate properly. I think it's a disgrace to call it hot chocolate. On top of that, the waiters are extremely rude, impatient, and annoyed. They make you feel like you're a nuisance. If you don't say your order quickly enough, they sigh in annoyance. Absolutely unacceptable. I wouldn't go there again.

1. That was the worst Kaiserschmarrn I've ever eaten 👎 2. My boyfriend wanted the creamed schnitzel, but he was told they only had pepper creamed schnitzel, but we weren't told that it would be €7 more expensive. That's pretty cheeky, and from what I've read, it probably wasn't the first time. 👎

Super delicious food and a fantastic location, but what makes the Seealpe unique is the super-friendly hostess and her daughter. They both do a fantastic job. Best wishes and see you next year!

We were looking forward to a soup and a drink. After asking for a free table and being assigned one, we left the Seealpe after well over 20 minutes. Our attempts to make contact were ignored. A brief "I'll be with you in a minute" would have been enough for us for now. Unfortunately, only those guests who had already received their food and drinks were served. Another couple also seemed to be waiting in vain for payment and had to seek service elsewhere. A reasonable wait is generally acceptable, but in my opinion, without communication and stoic ignorance, it's not hospitable.

Everything just works here. Super friendly service, very fast food, fantastic space (both inside and outside). For us, this is the best Kaiserschmarrn we've had in a long time.

I keep reading reviews about where the best Kaiserschmarrn is served. But where is it sprinkled with almonds and caramelized? We've never had it like that before. Usually, they just sprinkle it with powdered sugar. At the next table, only the children and their parents had tasted it at first. The fact that they immediately ordered it for themselves as dessert says it all. Unfortunately, the schnitzel was just average, which is why I had to deduct one star.

Beautifully situated mountain inn at the Seealpe station of the Nebelhornbahn cable car. Inviting terraces on three sides. Typical Allgäu dishes and snacks, as you would expect. Friendly staff.

Nice, but nothing special. Way too expensive. And no ATM in 2025? Come on, don't be so difficult. Yes, you're in the Alps, but there are staff cars parked there. It's not like they have to lug everything up on a donkey. There's also a perfectly good network/4G. And the staff refuses to speak English because "they can't," so they just stubbornly speak German. The locals look at you like you have a horse's head. It's like France.

After a long hike via Reichenbach and Nebelhorn, we descended via Seealpe. The alpine pasture invites you to stop for a bite to eat; we had the very best apricot cake, freshly picked from the garden, with crispy crumble. We were served very rudely, with pleasant musical entertainment on the squeezebox and glorious weather. Thank you so much, we'd love to come back!!! 🤩 Marion and Uta👋

Yes, great food and beautiful view

We opted for the creamed schnitzel with spaetzle. The waitress told us that today they only had schnitzel with pepper cream as an alternative. We received the bill and learned that this dish would cost €7 more. Unfortunately, they failed to inform us of this in advance. We are very disappointed with the advice, as otherwise we would certainly have chosen a different dish.

Expensive and poorly prepared food.

The food was disappointingly bad. Pasta was overcooked and served with a sour, watery "cheese sauce." Even worse was the staff's rude attitude toward my complaint. Never again...

After our hike, we stopped at the mountain inn. It was a very sunny day. We had a lovely shady spot. Our Kaiserschmarrn and our Radler were delicious. We'd happily return.

After a short break from hiking, we stopped at the Berggasthof Seealpe mountain inn at the Nebelhorn mid-station – and it was a thoroughly enjoyable visit. The restaurant has a wonderfully rustic atmosphere with a well-kept, very cozy beer garden. I particularly liked the fact that – unlike many other mountain restaurants – it's not a self-service restaurant, but we were served at our table. A real plus in such a location! The waitress was solely responsible for the large and busy outdoor area – and yet was always friendly, attentive, and professional. That deserves great respect, because despite the busy crowds, we were never forgotten and always served with a smile. We only had drinks and a small selection of food – all absolutely fairly priced, especially considering that you're in the middle of the alpine terrain. My sausage salad was excellent – ​​fresh, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. The espresso, beer, and cheesecake were also absolutely impressive (and delicious!). Conclusion: If you're looking for a genuine, down-to-earth, and welcoming place to stop off at the Nebelhorn, the Berggasthof Seealpe is the perfect place. Great location, good food, honest service—I'd love to come back!

Whenever we are in Oberstdorf, a visit to the Seealpe is a MUST!! The food was super delicious, no matter what. The prices are totally ok, the staff is always in a good mood, even when it's packed. The atmosphere is cozy. Highly recommended !!

We just had a drink. There are no zero alternatives for diabetics or people who watch their sugar consumption. Female service brisk and unfriendly.

The waitress was busy with her own cell phone most of the time. Unfortunately, “Alpine pizza” is just 2 slices of bread with a little cheese gratinated. For the price (10 euros) I would have expected more. Spaghetti is ok. Drinks well filled.

Highly recommended! The Seealpe restaurant in Oberstdorf is convincing across the board. The location is fantastic, with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, which alone is worth the visit. The food is excellent – ​​regional, fresh and prepared with a lot of love. The hearty dishes from the Alpine cuisine are particularly enjoyable. The service was friendly and attentive, and the cozy atmosphere perfectly rounded off the stay. If you are in Oberstdorf, you should not miss a visit here. We'll definitely be back!

Tolle Lage mit genialer Aussicht auf die Oberstdorfer Bergwelt! Preis- Leistungsverhältnis ist sehr fair. Das Essen ist größtenteils hausgemacht und die Qualität schmeckt man auch auf dem Teller!

We stopped here after a lovely hike and fortified ourselves with drinks and food. Good service, quick service, clean toilets.

When the weather was bad, we sat inside and shared Kaiserschmarrn for our second breakfast. Large portion, enough for 2 and was super tasty. Service super friendly!

We were there today and ordered the lentil soup twice. I also pointed to the card with the “vegan” category. We were brought two soups with sausages. When we said that we didn't order with sausages, the waiter said that there were two "variants" and the "normal" variant was the one with sausages. If I order a "lentil soup" I assume that it will be without sausages, otherwise I would have ordered a "lentil soup with sausages" as it says on the menu. The waiter then didn't want to bring us a new one without sausages, or we would have had to pay twice. My point is not that there was a misunderstanding, but that the waiters unfortunately reacted very uncomprehendingly and rudely.

Great view. But the price-performance ratio just doesn't fit.

After the hike from Prinz Luitpoldhaus to Nebelhorn, we unfortunately missed the last descent to Oberstdorf :-(( and then had to walk to Seealpe. From there a taxi was able to pick us up to Oberstdorf. Even though the Seealpe was officially closed, they were super nice and ordered the taxi for us and served us cold drinks that revived our spirits. A really great beer garden with a beautiful view. I will definitely come back. Thanks again to you.

Since I already visited the Seealpe in 2020 on a hike around the Faltbach Tobel, it was now on the program again. On the way to Nebelhorn we made a quick stop for a drink. It was good as usual, attentive and friendly staff, good seating. We didn't eat anything this time, so no review. All in all, a pleasant and recommended stop

Due to poor network connection only cash payment possible...no, that's clear! Not having zero drinks rounds off the “80s stop here nothing will change” charm... go one floor down to the village, the Kaiserschmarn costs half as much and the network seems to be more stable!

We stopped at Seealpe. Very friendly service. The view is magnificent. We were able to share a dish. No extra charge. We would have liked to have stayed longer. Unfortunately the weather turned bad and we had to start the descent earlier.

The mountain inn is right next to the first cable car station. This is surrounded by a wonderful alpine landscape. There are goats, rabbits and donkeys to pet. There is also a small artificial mountain lake there. We had Kaiserschmarn there and it was delicious.

Terrace located at the foot of the first section of the cable car that goes up to Nebelhorn. Traditional food. The small beer is a 1/2 liter jug. Correct service. You can only pay in cash.

Were there on Wednesday. First we walked the Uff d'r Alp circular hike and then stopped for a stop. My husband had the Bergsteiger soup and I had the Bergler pizza. It was really great. The wood-fired bread was well topped with Bergkaes. One piece with chives on it, on the other fried onions and salad garnish. We were thrilled. Plus a nice, cool wheat from an Allgäu brewery. More is not possible

Be sure to make a stopover on the way back from Nebelhorn, walk around the lake, see the free-roaming cows, and enjoy the wonderful view of the Allgäu. Inn outdoor area, great cool drinks, mountaineering soup, excellent, top service

A lovely place to linger, enjoy the view and unwind. The sweet gentian spritzer (contains alcohol) is also very tasty. Although it didn't look spectacular, it tasted even better.

We stopped there on the way to the Nebelhorn. Great alp with a great panorama. The snack was the best I've ever had. More than enough and directed with love (cucumber=heart, a cheese cow). Prices more than fair. The staff very friendly. We will be back ;)

There is only one star because of the cheesecake, otherwise the employees were very dismissive and just wanted to get off work early and you were no longer allowed to go to the toilet, even though the opening time is until 5 p.m. We arrived at 4:15 p.m. only for the staff to leave us sitting alone outside the inn 10 minutes later, even though there were other guests there too. Absolutely not recommended.

The Kaiserschmarrn is one of the best in Germany. Nice and fluffy, crispy with plum roast and almond crust that tastes like freshly roasted almonds. The shepherd's meal (3 dumplings) and the cheese sparrows also taste great. The view is the reward after a climb from Oberstdorf.

Hausgemachter Kaiserschmarrn zum Niederknien. Wäre nur noch mit einem hausgemachten Zwetschgenröster zu verbessern. Sehr freundliches Personal. Saubere Waschräume. Wir waren mehrfach hier zu Gaststube kehren immer wieder gern hier ein.
