We spent our New Year's Eve at Barile yesterday and enjoyed a five-course meal. We were absolutely thrilled – from the amuse-bouche to the dessert, the food was simply delicious. Super fresh, perfectly seasoned, and the price was excellent considering the quality. The service was also fantastic – very attentive and incredibly friendly. We will definitely be back! The only thing we might change is the appetizer platter. There were four of us – two meat-eaters and two vegetarians. The meat was served on the appetizer platter along with the vegetarian dishes. This was a bit of a shame, as the vegetables and burrata then came into contact with the steak tartare and vitello tonnato. A separate plate for the vegetarians would have been much better. All in all, though, we were very happy. Thanks again to the team for a wonderful evening! :-)

Beautiful ambiance with elegant wooden furniture, but overall a bit cramped and noisy. Excellent service, superb food, though the selection could have been a bit larger for my taste. But all in all: Highly recommended!

Cozy restaurant, delicious food, good wines, attentive service!

The food was good, but nothing special. The cheese selection at the end, in particular, was presented very carelessly; it looked like it had been thrown together. What was really annoying, unfortunately, was the noise level. Even at a table for two, you practically had to shout to have a conversation. And because the tables were so close together, food and drinks were frequently passed over our table or heads. This was also incredibly disruptive and could easily be remedied.

We arrived spontaneously on Friday evening and were lucky enough to be offered a table for a couple of hours. The food was excellent, especially the eggplant appetizer and the filled ravioli, which were heavenly. The service was also very attentive and friendly. The price was reasonable as well. We'd love to come back again 🥰

Very tasty selection of pasta (4-5 dishes), small menu and the ambience is a 10/10!

Unfortunately, it's not so well-equipped for the winter season. For three people, we have a 50x60 cm table, which was placed 2 cm from the other 50x60 cm table, so if you go there as a group of three, you should expect to be sitting next to three strangers all evening and overhearing their conversations. Plus, there isn't even enough room on the table for three main courses, three wine glasses, and three water glasses. The waiter was so nice and proudly said, "Yes, that's how it is with us!" The actual capacity of the place will be reduced by 15% to ensure everyone feels comfortable, unless you're looking for a Ballermann club atmosphere.

Everything was excellent. The truffle pasta was the best I've ever eaten. The bishop was incredible.

A warm welcome and creative aperitifs began an evening that catapulted us from one culinary highlight to the next. Attention to detail, sophisticated flavor explosions, exquisite wines, rounded off by a dessert selection that elicited nothing but "oohs" and "aaahs" from the table. And to finish, a real Italian espresso. Thank you all!!!

I'd actually given up on Cologne restaurants, but I was pleasantly surprised here. A cozy, upscale atmosphere, very friendly staff, tasty food at fair prices, and a good wine selection. All in all, a place where you feel at home. I'll be back.

We were at Barile for the first time yesterday! Reserved a table on the terrace and got it. Nice ambiance, delicious food = all 3 courses! Good wine! The prices are still reasonable. Very friendly and attentive waiters! We know Bagutta, Tanica, etc. Really good people work here! The Mista appetizer platter should definitely be added to the menu! We'll be back!

We dropped in spontaneously without a reservation and got a table without any problems. We had a three-course meal that we could choose from the menu. It was incredibly delicious, and the service was super friendly and very attentive. We had a very pleasant evening and will definitely come back.

Yesterday, the two of us went there for lunch. We had the lunch menu, a starter of bruschetta and a main course of pasta with chanterelle mushrooms and flank steak. Both were delicious. It certainly won't be our last time there.

Good food, good wines. Professional service that becomes more cordial after the second visit. We prefer sitting outside; it's often too crowded and noisy inside. The seafood pasta is excellent! The only drawback: the menu changes very rarely; they could definitely improve that!

The antipasti alone were a delight, lovingly prepared and delicious. The various pasta dishes delighted everyone, with something for every taste. A special highlight: the world's best tiramisu – absolutely divine! This was accompanied by plenty of Aperol, excellent wine, and sparkling champagne – everything perfectly matched. The service was consistently attentive, warm, and professional. The entire team did a fantastic job and contributed significantly to the delights of all our guests. A huge thank you to Barile – we'd love to come back!

The food and wine were truly amazing, and the service was attentive and friendly. All in all, a fantastic experience. I sat outside and found my chair a bit uncomfortable. But all in all, I highly recommend it.

We had the three-course menu twice. Everything was excellent! The pasta vongle and the fillet steak were particularly noteworthy. The vongole had a sufficiently strong, creamy, and slightly spicy broth. By far the best vongole I've had in a long time. The meat in the steak was, of course, great, BUT: the jus was amazing. Such a great flavor! So, a definite recommendation.

Update June 2025: Still a perfect spot – this time outdoors – to spend a lovely summer evening with good food and drinks with friendly hosts. Excellent value for money. Definitely recommend it. Wonderful restaurant with ambiance. Enjoy the excellent food (à la carte or set menu), accompanied by good wine and attentive, unobtrusive service. Reasonable value for money. We celebrated our wedding at Barile and couldn't be happier! From the planning to the big day, everything was absolutely perfect. The food was dreamy, the location beautiful, and the entire team was simply fantastic – warm, professional, and always attentive (as always). We'd especially like to thank Salva and his entire team for making our day unforgettable. Our guests and we were completely satisfied and are still raving about this special experience. We highly recommend it – we would choose Barile again anytime!

The food was good; not everything was great, but it was generally delicious. Overall, I have to say it was very impersonal. There were four waiters and waitresses, and yet it still took a long time to be served. We weren't given any attention, and the noise often meant we weren't heard when we tried to summon a waiter. We ordered a set menu, meaning we ordered all three courses right at the start. Even so, the dessert, which wasn't warm and I think was ready right after the main course, took 30 minutes to arrive after the main course. We also had to wait 20 minutes for the bill. The atmosphere is generally nice, but we were sitting next to a wall with a picture on it. The picture was very brightly lit, which made the light at our table much too bright compared to the rest of the restaurant. This made it very uncomfortable. The tables are also very close together. We sat very close to other guests, which is generally fine. However, it was so crowded that we were only served from one side at a time, meaning we always had to pick up the food ourselves across the table. You simply weren't looked after or advised as much as you might have hoped. That was a shame, especially since we were celebrating a birthday there and had mentioned it. It just seemed like a very chaotic evening. We noticed that neighboring tables were served the wrong food. And throughout the evening, we heard glasses break at least five times, one right next to us, which the waiter dropped. Individually, none of these things are anything to get upset about, but all of them together make the experience less than pleasant.

Six of us girls ate here and we all had a variety of delicious dishes. Amazing food and excellent service! The servers were very attentive and friendly. The food was incredibly good. We highly recommend it. Thank you very much.

It was fantastic sitting in the sun, eating a delicious crisp salad with an exceptional dressing, the tomato soup far from ordinary, the calamari extraordinarily delicious and not coated in breadcrumbs, just lightly mottled. The waiters were exceptionally friendly, service was prompt, and there were plenty of shady spots. Every dish was prepared with love.

Totally overpriced, average quality. I can't recommend it.

We've been to this restaurant several times and have generally had good experiences. However, on our last visit – each of us had ordered a set menu, with reservations starting at 6 p.m. – the evening was less relaxed than we had hoped. We were aware that the table was only available until 8 p.m., which was communicated several times in advance and upon arrival. This is understandable and generally not a problem. After the main course, however, we were brought the bill without being asked at around 7:40 p.m. – even though neither dessert nor the ordered hot drinks (espresso and coffee) had been served. My husband politely pointed out that there were still courses pending, whereupon the bill was taken away. Shortly thereafter, another waiter came, apologized for the misunderstanding, and announced that the desserts would be arriving shortly – but presented the bill again anyway. My husband then asked again for the bill to be brought after dessert. Not because of time pressure, but because it simply seems rude to be asked to pay several times while food was still pending. While we were eating our dessert, we were interrupted again: Another waiter came to the table and showed us on a tablet the message that had been sent in advance, stating that the table would be needed again at 8 p.m. He emphasized that we were aware of this and expressed incomprehension about our reaction. My husband calmly explained again that we were aware of the time limit, but that we had already been reminded of it several times (it felt like five times) – and that the situation was primarily caused by the fact that the bill came first, not dessert. The constant follow-up created a noticeable sense of unrest, which detracted from the otherwise pleasant atmosphere. Instead of a short break and an enjoyable meal, we felt pressured from the very beginning – and finally left the restaurant at 7:57 p.m. Only at home did we realize that we hadn't received the dessert we had ordered – instead of the vanilla version, we were served a lemon tart with compote. Due to the time pressure, we didn't even notice this in the restaurant itself. Conclusion: While a time limit is understandable, it would be desirable not to communicate it in a way that leaves guests with the impression of being constantly "fed up." A more structured and calmer process would certainly contribute greatly to the overall experience.

We were there last Friday and wanted to test out this new part of the "Massimo empire". And we weren't disappointed: we had carpaccio and tuna steak, calamari. All very tasty. Nice service, everything works well. Well mixed crowd, everything was just pleasant. The two of us had a bill of 110 EUR. We'd love to come back.

Despite the great taste of the food (1 point deducted for mini dessert & almost cold side dishes), only a mediocre rating because when booking online it doesn't say that only one slot (6 p.m. - 8 p.m.) is booked. You only get this information three days in advance & then it is too late to book good replacement restaurants in Cologne. It was also really outrageous how you were complemented - it started around 7:30 p.m. for us. Customer satisfaction is not guaranteed here!

I had a most wonderful dining experience there last week. Even if you order a single glass of wine the server will pour a sample and let you taste it first. The food is great, but the service is what makes the place truly special.

We were a large group on a Saturday evening and all had the 3 course menu. The food came quickly, was incredibly good and the service was absolutely courteous and friendly. We'd love to come back!

Starter and dessert were very tasty. The main course (we had pasta and meat) was rather mediocre. Unfortunately, throughout the evening we were only asked about our drink preferences at the beginning. We would have liked to order something else and help the restaurant generate more sales. But the service was still friendly. However, we wouldn't come back again.

For me, Barile is one of the 5 best restaurants in Cologne. The service is always excellent, the food is excellent and the ambience is just lovely.

Overall okay, it wasn't bad or good. Unfortunately, the price doesn't justify the mediocre tasting pasta. Wouldn't eat here again and can't really recommend it. The atmosphere is quite nice but you sit very close to the next table.

Unfortunately, there are several mice running around the restaurant. Otherwise, I would recommend it: Well-balanced and slightly more unusual food with portions that fill you up (enough). For everyone who likes something a little fancier but is not a gourmet. You can have a good time there with a good wine from the wine list. Tip: order an exterminator...

Every Veedel will get its Massimo offshoot by 2030. 🤭😉 seems a little like that. I remain a fan of the original in the Südstadt. And if I want something less fancy, I go to Bagutta or Tanica. The Barile is also a good alternative thanks to the almost identical menu, smartly furnished, narrow and cozy, a little loud for private conversations.

Excellent service waitress attentive and informative. Food was excellent , clams with pasta and the steak with mushroom and pasta were excellent. The calamari starter was divine and the desert of lemon cheesecake also very good. My only concern was the stairs to the toilets were steep and not that well lit, the tables were a little too close together but still felt intimate . All in all throughly recommend the restaurant

Everything here was a 5/5. You cannot beat the quality, price, and atmosphere anywhere else in this area. It was fine dining without the price tag. We had Chianti, an espresso martini, beef tartare, truffle ravioli, artichoke ravioli, 2x tiramisu, and a cappuccino. This was all under €100, and was very filling. The service was wonderful, they work hard to keep you happy and visit the table the right amount of times, not too often and not too infrequently. We highly recommend!

Drinks (Negroni/GinTonic) loveless. Ready mixed. 1/3 of the normal capacity (1 finger width). Upon request, a normal new one for the entire table to divide. Bread was old/from the day before. But plenty more upon request. Solid food. Starter average. Delicious main courses. Beef fillet on point. Dessert nice. Limoncello for free. Tight seating. Service very friendly. Overall, classic 3 star food.

Wir haben einen Tisch für ein geschäftliches Weihnachtsessen für 8 Personen reserviert. Es waren 2 Tische unterschiedlicher Höhe aneinander geschoben-ein Vierer und ein Zweiertisch. Wo es schon zu dritt auf einer Seite recht eng ist, sollten wir uns nun zu viert an eine Seite quetschen. Auf unsere Beschwerde hin wurde uns mitgeteilt, dass aufgrund einer großen Gruppe kein anderer Tisch frei gewesen wäre. Da frage ich mich, wieso man dann meine Reservierung überhaupt annimmt, wenn nicht ausreichend Platz vorhanden ist?! Für ein Restaurant, das gehobene Preise aufruft, erwarte ich einen Sitzplatz, an dem man vernünftig essen kann und fände auch einen gepflegten Toilettenbereich angemessen. Das Essen war lecker, stellt aber nichts außergewöhnliches dar. Unser Kellner war sehr nett und bemüht-er war das Beste im Laden. Insgesamt sind wir enttäuscht und werden hier nicht mehr hingehen.

Actually a nice restaurant if fruit flies hadn't taken over everywhere. The tuna tartare consisted only of almost unseasoned tuna, no sophistication whatsoever, the schnitzels in the saltimbocca were unfortunately an impertinence, cut far too thick and tough, the mashed potatoes completely lacked the creaminess, and the tiramisu unfortunately lacked any coffee note. The staff only reacted to our complaint with a shrug of the shoulders...

Food and service TOP. The ambience itself is nice, but it's not quite as clean in some places. So the tables themselves are, but you can often find spider webs in the corners of the ceiling. There are also quite a few fruit flies around

Very good food (Pasta Vongole is a dream), great service, super nice staff and a beautiful outdoor area! Inside just like Tanica, they belong together, but I have to say that I liked it much better in the Barile. Very nice atmosphere and staff also make a difference :)
