Bangkok Thai Restaurant in Köln

Unfortunately, I can no longer give a positive review. We've been going here for over 10 years. I've rarely had such a bad duck. The starter only had two sauces. We had to wait over 40 minutes for the starter, even though the restaurant was almost empty. Unfortunately, I can't give the staff a positive review either. The food is served on increasingly smaller plates and isn't even warm anymore. It's all a real shame, because it used to be really good. The owner has probably changed; there's no other explanation.

Ordered takeaway. The food was prepared quickly and tasted sensational. I will come back.

Addendum: Before the change in ownership, I rated this restaurant with 5 stars (photo is from earlier). Since the change of ownership we have given the restaurant a chance twice. Quality has deteriorated since then. Chicken from super tender to fibrous. Very unfortunate. Was the best Thai for us. Super tasty main dishes and nice service. We really enjoy coming to eat here. However, I would always recommend making a reservation in advance if you want to come after 6 p.m., as the restaurant is always very busy.

I debated for a long time whether I should write this review, but ultimately I think this needs to be said here. My best friend and I were really craving mango sticky rice that evening. So we checked the reviews and were actually pleasantly surprised. To be on the safe side, we called the restaurant and asked if they were currently offering the dessert. The gentleman on the phone said yes. We also wanted to know how exactly they prepare it and if we could come over and take a look. His answer was simply: “No, we don’t have any pictures. Just come here and you’ll see.” We found it a bit strange, but good. We then politely declined and hung up. Two minutes later my cell phone rang - it was the number of the restaurant. I answer it and am irritated at first. The man says: “You have to come now, I left the kitchen open especially for you. I have your number now too.” That really surprised us, but we were almost there at the time anyway, so we went in anyway. Once inside, we explained that we had just gotten off the phone and just wanted to see what their mango sticky rice looked like. We hadn't ordered anything when suddenly the employee came out of the kitchen with a box and a white bag. At first we thought it was for someone else and we could just take a look. But when we took a look inside, it was immediately clear to us: This is absolutely not what we expected. It looked completely different from the Mango Sticky Rice we know from Düsseldorf, so we wanted to go again. And then the strangest thing happened: the man takes a spoon, holds it out to me and tries to feed me. I was just shocked. As a reminder, my best friend and I are both engaged - it was just super awkward and we just wanted out. But then the man suddenly says that the food is for us and we have to pay for it. We had never ordered anything, but so as not to make the situation any more unpleasant, we paid quickly and got out. In the car we thought to ourselves: Okay, maybe it at least tastes good? We didn't want to waste the food unnecessarily. But just thinking about it made me sick. We tried it anyway – and it was a big mistake. Since then, I can't even listen to Mango Sticky Rice, let alone eat it. We were sick for two days. After our “taste test” we called the restaurant and asked how old the dessert was and what was in it. But instead of taking us seriously, they tried to end the call as quickly as possible. After a lot of back and forth the little man said "yes, then the day will come and we'll talk" - what should we talk about, did we think???? He then said “yes, come and you will get your money back”. We didn't want our money back, we wanted answers to our questions. I'm not writing this review to put anyone down, but rather to point out that this kind of behavior is simply not possible. Hopefully the service and quality will improve in the future. (the images are screenshots from a video) I beg of you, this is not what mango sticky rice looks like🙏🏼

We'll definitely be back because the menu is so big and promising that we still have a lot to try out. The interior is so beautifully designed with thousands of tree bushes in all sizes, the ceilings and walls were designed in the Thai style. You just feel like you're in Thailand and the ambience gives you a lot of sabay sabay feeling. We weren't impressed with what we ordered, which is why we only gave it 4 stars, but we also didn't choose the Thai classics, so we'll definitely come back and try some more.

I recently went to this Thai restaurant and really loved it! The variety of dishes is impressive and there was something for every taste. I was particularly blown away by the Tom Yum soup – the perfect mix of hot, sour and spicy! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. You can tell that they value their guests and take care of every detail. The atmosphere in the restaurant was relaxed and friendly, which made the meal even more enjoyable. All in all, it was an all-round great experience and I highly recommend this restaurant. Authentic cuisine is served here with heart and passion!

I recently went to this restaurant and I have to say it was an absolute delight! The food was simply fantastic – fresh, aromatic and prepared with so much love. What made it even better was the service. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. You immediately felt comfortable and welcomed. You can tell they are passionate about their work and truly care about providing guests with a great experience. The atmosphere was also very cozy and inviting. The atmosphere was relaxed yet stylish at the same time, making it a perfect place for a relaxed meal. I can only recommend this restaurant and will definitely come back!

Every time you enter the Bangkok it feels like you are entering another world. The service is phenomenal, the employees are super nice and attentive. The atmosphere is cozy and original. The food and cocktails were super delicious (I've been there so many times and have never had anything that wasn't a taste explosion in a positive sense). Large portions. Worth every penny and always happy!

I've been to many Thai restaurants so far and have always been impressed!! Bangkok is my favorite Thai restaurant and I love taking my friends here as a gift! The service and cleanliness are also very great. The best Thai food in Cologne is here!!!

The two of us spontaneously ended up here a week ago in the evening. Even though the restaurant was full, we were warmly welcomed. We were asked to sit at a small table in the entrance area until a larger table was available. Our order was taken quickly, we were able to change tables and the food (1 dish with duck, one with chicken) came surprisingly quickly. Both dishes were extremely tasty and beautifully presented. The prices are fair and the service is attentive. Definitely worth recommending!

The food was delicious. The service was disappointing even though there was only one other guest. They were kind enough to assign us a table despite not having a reservation. The restaurant was completely empty and it was certainly at least another 3 hours during rush hour. Therefore, I could not understand the behavior of the presumed owner. We were cashed in while we were still eating. The starter we ordered came together with one of the main courses. The second main course when my companion had eaten half of it. Too bad...

I ordered the Red Thai Curry, and my boyfriend had the Panaeng Curry. We both love spicy food—I mean, I’m Asian, so I know what spicy really means. But this was on another level! It was so incredibly hot that I could barely eat my food, and my boyfriend felt like he was burning in hell!! To be fair, they apologized and tried to make things right, which we appreciated. However, the service could use some improvement—the dishes really should come out together. The food itself was actually good, but now my boyfriend has a bit of a spicy trauma from the experience! 😆

The food is delicious and the curry had a very nice, intense lemongrass taste. Unfortunately the supposedly spicy dishes were 0 spicy. The chili oil also lacked any real spiciness. All in all, the food was not exceptional but rather identical to many other Thai restaurants in Cologne. The staff was nice, but unfortunately it sometimes took quite a long time until they noticed you. I thought it was a bit cheeky that I had to pay €1.5 to have the rest of my food packed. In terms of price, the restaurant is a bit more expensive compared to other Thai restaurants in Cologne. Even though the food wasn't bad, I probably wouldn't eat here again.

Leuke stad met veel winkels verder hadden we stralend weer maar kan me voorstellen dat mits het somber is niet echt mooi is . wel grote parken waar het vast in de zomer leuk is ik beoordeel het als gemiddeld leuk voor een weekend weg en ga dan wel in het centrum zitten dat is wel het leukste. veel eethuisjes de thai is aan te raden lekker en voordelig.

Typical Thai restaurant. At Christmas time there is flashing and flashing everywhere. The food was also very tasty; only the “crispy pork belly” could have been significantly crispier. Service very courteous. Especially when we were surprised that there was mango sticky rice today. Of course we were really excited. We'd love to come back.

Be it skewers or soups as starters, duck, tofu dishes: the dishes are diverse according to the spectrum of Asian cuisine, freshly prepared and simply a feast for the palate with lots of flavors. The Bangkok was truly a discovery! Nice atmosphere, friendly hosts. For me a top recommendation in Cologne if you are staying in the area. 1 point deducted for the ambience because it is a bit tight, but we were happy to have gotten a table at short notice. Clear recommendation - go!

We were initially told to wait 15 minutes, which we did. However, after patiently waiting, we were informed we would need to wait an additional 15 minutes. This lack of clear communication and consideration is extremely disappointing.

The food is excellent, compliments to the chef. But the service is extremely poor and one particularwaitress extremely rude. The waitress has lot of attitude and argumentative. Our starter arrived on time, but we had to wait for a long time for the main dish. My kid was getting very hungry and irritating. So when I politely asked how much longer was the main dish going to take the waitress got argumentative. She started pointing out how it was our fault that we didn't ask her to bring the main dish in short while after the starters. Isn't that the natural flow at every restaurant. But the thing is I wasn't even complaining about the delay. Also, I didn't mention to her that clients who came in after our starter arrived, were being served their main dish. She also started to argue how she had multiple tables to look after, whereas only three tables had customers at the point and the other two tables arrived after us. The thing is, I just wanted to know how much more time they needed to bring in the main dish, and the waitress was very rude in response.

Fantastic Thai food and great service. We absolutely loved the food and our request to have the food on the spicy side was spot on. We ordered Phad ki Mao (Chicken), Thai Green Curry (Prawns) and a Fried Squid dish for dinner, they were all well made and full of flavours. The service provided by Sit and team was brilliant - prompt, patient (we didn't speak German on the table) and delivered with a smile. Highly recommend.

Best Thai in the Cologne/Rhine Erft area. Super friendly staff. Insanely delicious food that also looks great. The Thai mentality still comes through to its fullest here. Fair prices where you can also leave a good tip. I'm just waiting for the day when the ring is missing from the sweet waitress's finger. My marriage proposal is being rushed 😉. Absolute recommendation 100%.

Never again! So far we have always been very satisfied. We called in advance to check whether the kitchen was still open. After our arrival of about 30 minutes, the kitchen was closed despite our promise. Thanks for nothing.

Be careful, unfortunately you have to check the invoice carefully! Today, as it was full, we ordered food and picked it up. Unfortunately, it wasn't until we got home that we noticed that a dish was missing, so we called and were then refunded an arbitrary-sounding amount via Paypal. We then checked the prices on the homepage again and found that not only was the total bill a mere 5 euros too high, but we were also reimbursed 1.50 euros too little for the missing dish. It's incomprehensible to me how you can do something like that. We've always enjoyed eating here, on site or picking up at home, but that's just not possible.

Authentic Thai dishes. The food was brought to the table very quickly. The ambience is very tasteful. Only the tables are a bit too small.

In fact, I ate here for the first time yesterday and was really impressed! Nice employees served deliciously seasoned starters and main courses, as well as an equally delicious Singha. Reservations are absolutely essential and you should also have time - but you should take it if you're going out to eat anyway. I'll definitely be back!

Really tasty and not overpriced

I absolutely loved the Bangkok Thai Restaurant! The food is authentic and full of flavor – just as you would expect from Thai cuisine. The Pad Thai and green curry were particularly excellent. The ingredients are fresh and the spiciness was perfectly balanced. The atmosphere is also very pleasant, you immediately feel like you are in Thailand. The service was friendly and attentive. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. A real insider tip for lovers of Thai cuisine!

Great food, humble service! I sent a request for a reservation to 1 person three days in advance, with no response. Spontaneously went there in the evening, 6:07 p.m. It would be fully reserved and guests would arrive at 7 p.m. I said I could do it. Ok, somewhat reluctantly and disbelievingly, I was assigned a seat. I had to go to the bar to order because the staff wasn't looking. I had to contort myself to order more beer and “want to pay” because the entire staff preferred to laugh rather than pay attention to the guests. I only received a receipt when I asked (greetings to the tax office). At least they said goodbye. I would like to come a second time, but please be friendly and attentive!

Wir waren schon mal hier essen und damals waren wir sehr zufrieden mit dem Lokal. Leider nicht dieses Mal. Wir hatten uns verschiedene Gerichte mit Ente bestellt. Die Gerichte waren leider trocken, wir konnten die Ente garnicht genießen. Das Fleisch war so trocken, dass es nur knusprig geschmeckt hat, jedoch vom Fleisch Fehlanzeige. Das haben wir auch der Kellnerin mitgeteilt, jedoch gab es darauf keine Reaktion diesbezüglich. Wir werden in Zukunft andere Thailändische Restaurants uns aufsuchen. Hier hat nicht nur das Essen versagt, auch der Service war leider enttäuschend.

NUMBER ONE THAI IN COLOGNE. For me... and my friends. We haven't been there for a long time and it tasted even better than we remembered. The starters are "too delicious"! It's best to order a platter to share. The baked shrimp, the vegetable fritters [similar to tempura] and the gyoza were particularly tasty 😋. The spring rolls were also perfect. Crispy on the outside, with a very tasty filling on the inside. For the main course I had Phad Sie Ew with prawns - classically prepared, simply delicious. I was also allowed to try the duck and it was a poem. Very crispy and beautifully marinated... We'll always come back. A little tip: make a reservation in ANY CASE... the shop is just too good 👍 it's buzzing, there's always something going on, great atmosphere and the service is extremely charming. Keep it up!!! You are simply great!!!

food very average. the starter with a mix of specialties was in a large amount of fat, everything tasted the same. Main courses were duck, which was terribly salty and fatty. chicken in sweet and sour sauce tasted like a ready-made product from the store. I do not recommend, in Asian bars you can eat better than here. terribly expensive

Great food, even until late, great service, everything was great!

We were amazed at how bad our food was after all the good reviews. My coconut lemongrass soup with shrimp was horrible, and even with specially ordered hot water, inedible! Completely over-seasoned, sour and too salty! I couldn't eat the shrimp that was swimming in it because it wasn't fresh! My husband felt the same way with limp rice noodles that were swimming in a greasy, indefinable sauce. It's a shame, we were happy too soon!

Been to Thailand every year since I was 3 years ago, up until I was 19. The food here is some of the best Thai food I've ever had since I moved to Europe. It is so authentic, so, the spice level was perfect. The portion sizes were fantastic, and the staff are incredible.

Very authentic Thai food with fresh ingredients. We only had dishes from the “Bangkok specialties” category, which were all very tasty (Laab Ped Udon, Gra Prao Muu Grob, Som Tam Pu Plaa Lah). You should take the spiciness information seriously here 🌶️🥵. Fans of spicy food will get their money's worth here 👍. The inexperienced should not order a dish with more than one chili pictured. However, I deducted one star because the prices on the website do not match those on the menu on site. You can add around 1-2 euros to each dish here. Thanks for the great food 🙏🏼

Unfortunately, I'm very disappointed, the Thai guy was very slacking off, spontaneously ordered my favorite dish from the Thai guy in Bangkok last night, the food arrived lukewarm so that a few minutes later it wasn't really edible, so I asked the service to please warm up my food, it came a few minutes later The food was still as lukewarm as before, I ate something to satisfy my hunger, had the rest packed up and paid €24.40 for a dish with prawns and water, briefly mentioned the problem to the service again, but it wasn't really taken seriously taken. Later at home I warmed up the food in the microwave and ate it

It was a very tasty, beautifully presented meal. The drinks are very cheap and I find the atmosphere to be homely. Special requests regarding the choice of seating were also addressed without any objections. It would have been nice if we'd been asked every now and then whether we needed anything else or wanted to drink. But maybe it was just today. I would definitely like to eat here again.

Great little Thai restaurant in the Belgian Quarter that has been around for a long time and is correspondingly popular. Good selection of Thai classics, tasty and nicely prepared. Sufficient quantities. Nice and cozy atmosphere, attentive service.

Extremely unfriendly and rude staff! Yesterday we came to the restaurant to eat two hours before closing time and were greeted by the staff with groans and sighs asking why we were still entering the restaurant at 9 p.m. (opening hours until 11 p.m.). The staff sat at a table and chatted and guests were not welcome. Never again! I can only advise against visiting this restaurant due to the poor service!

Nice staff, nice restaurant. Food was quite good, but nothing exceptional. Felt it was too much of “everything fried” with what we ordered (appetizers, fish).

The atmosphere is extremely nice and the owner is very friendly.. today we had a situation with a child who screamed the whole time and the owner then sent the guests away, which was really great because you could eat in peace again. This restaurant is a clear recommendation!!

Totally annoyed, despite reservations for 8 people, some of whom had traveled from the surrounding area, we were not notified via email or WhatsApp. It was supposed to be a small birthday party. Unfortunately we couldn't rate the food. That was it then!!!

I was there once and had a great experience. Wonderful atmosphere and friendly service. I then recommended the place to a group and they went with it. I ordered a beef dish. The beef was rubber. It could not be chewed at all. I paid with a smile. Looking back, I wish I had sent the plate back and refused to pay. There is no excuse for this. Good beef is plentiful and cheap in Cologne. Tonight I made a stir fry at home using French Tafelspitz which cost €20/kg at the Rewe. It was as tender as beef can be.

The food is good... be careful when ordering the spiciness. I eat spicy food...the spiciness seems too much for me too...The price seems high...one thing that disappointed me is that their website is not updated with updated prices. People can be confused when they get there. Atmosphere and service are good.

Nice authentic Thai restaurant, my kids love the Pad Thai with shrimps there while I was amazed by the Tom Yum Soup and Green Curry with Pork. We have also ordered the Thai Platter and the portion is huge, but only the Satay Skewers and Fish Cakes got the scores.

This was our first visit to Bangkok and we were amazed by the atmosphere, warm welcome and excellent food we experienced. The decor feels very authentically Thai and the place was buzzing and busy - always a good sign. The award for the best Thai restaurant in Köln is certainly very well deserved. We’ll definitely be back to visit next time we’re in Köln! Thank you!!

We hadn't reserved a table but were lucky enough to get one for 1 1/2 hours. The staff was incredibly friendly and on point. The food was very tasty and plentiful but the quality was also very good. All in all, a successful visit to Bankok and highly recommended!

Wir waren zum ersten Mal hier essen und hatten hohe Erwartungen. Leider war es geschmacklich nicht so wie wir es erhofft hatten. Mein rotes Thai Curry hatte kaum Geschmack und auch das Thai Basilikum fehlte, was einem originalem Thaicurry erst die besondere Note gibt. Die fruchtigen alkohlfreien Cocktail Punches waren allerdings sehr lecker. Ausserdem wurde unser Wunsch, anlässlich eines Geburtstages den Tisch festlich zu decken, nach vorheriger telefonischer Absprache nicht berücksichtigt was sehr schade war. Generell scheint es bei keinem Restaurant zu funktionieren. Die Preise sind hier wirklich zu anderen Restaurants sehr günstig, aber geschmacklich halt nicht zufriedenstellend. Wir werden aufgrunddessen nicht wieder kommen, da wir schon deutlich bessere thailändische Restaurants besucht haben.

There were seven of us in total and everyone had something different to eat. Including the starter, everyone enjoyed it very much. At first the drinks took a little long, but the service was very friendly. When choosing, the spiciness of chili peppers is given as 1-4, with 2 being quite hot.

As always great. Great food and very nicely decorated. The service could be a little faster. Parking is of course catastrophic, typical of the city center.

Fantastic restaurant, with an extensive menu that doesn't diminish the quality in any way. The service is top and reservations are strongly recommended. “Spicy” is really hot and the cocktails are also highly recommended. The Bangkok Thai Restaurant can also be seen as a reason for a trip to Cologne.

We ordered something to pick up at lunchtime today. We shared the starter plate for 1, the fish cakes and the fried squid with soy sauce. The starter plate for one was enough for both of us but we weren't 100% convinced. It would be nice if there were a few non-fried options here. The fish cakes were really delicious, but the highlight was the squid, the vegetables and the fish were perfectly cooked and the sauce was really delicious. There is still a small negative point: unfortunately the prices given did not match the website and Google and each dish was €1 more expensive than stated.
