Badebistro in Datteln

We were there on Boxing Day and unfortunately, it was absolutely awful. I understand that things get hectic during the holidays and that they have a limited menu, but the taste simply shouldn't suffer. Each dish came with a starter soup, salad, and dessert. The soup was a kind of alphabet soup. It was okay, but nothing special. No points deducted for that, though. Now for the reason for the bad review. Our dishes arrived almost immediately after the soup was cleared away, barely 15 minutes after we had even ordered. This could already be considered an indication that the food wasn't actually fresh, but rather reheated, which was further confirmed by the fact that it was only lukewarm. When we asked what had happened to our salads, we received a confused, "Oh, you haven't got them yet? We'll bring them." This "we'll bring them" then took three more requests. Our order only listed "Rump steak with mushrooms and fries," so we each ordered a side of Béarnaise sauce. What arrived was an outrage. There was so much Béarnaise sauce that it could have easily been shared, the steak was swimming in some kind of gravy that wasn't on the menu (otherwise we wouldn't have ordered it), and the mushrooms were definitely canned. I'm also pretty sure it wasn't rump steak. It was tough, and the typical layer of fat was completely missing. My sister-in-law's Hawaiian schnitzel was drowning in hollandaise sauce, which also wasn't on the menu; otherwise, she wouldn't have ordered it, as she doesn't like hollandaise. The dessert was like paste or mashed rice pudding with chocolate chips. Inedible. The waiter was rather hyper and also a bit flustered. For example, we ordered drinks, he wrote down 3 out of 6 and then left without asking the other 3 if we wanted drinks. When we mentioned that the food was very bad and the sauces weren't on the menu, he just said, "Yeah, I've had that misunderstanding several times today." So it was a known issue, and he could have said something. What a waste of money, never again.

During our holiday at the Wehlingsheide campsite, we went to the Wehling restaurant. The owners and staff are absolutely lovely and helpful. The food—homemade—was really delicious. We also attended the New Year's Eve celebration at the Wehling. The cold and hot buffet and soup at midnight, all homemade, were fantastic. We'll be back next holiday. The New Year's Eve celebration cost €35.00 per person, plus drinks and including a glass of sparkling wine at midnight.

Absolutely delicious food, super friendly staff, we will definitely come back!!
