Backspielhaus Restaurant in München

I was in a nearly empty store with my daughters, waited there for at least 15 minutes, and wasn't served. When I went to the counter, I was able to place my order and was served friendly by the lady behind it. Unfortunately, our order still hadn't arrived, and the plates with our orders were still on the counter. I then asked the waiter if I could take the pretzel and croissant for my children, and he said yes. As I took the plates, a screaming middle-aged woman came towards me (perhaps the boss? She certainly wasn't a likeable person) and yelled at me that she was going to explain to me how things work in there, and that I should sit down and wait. She was so excited that she ignored my reminder that I had arranged it with her waiter and even started insulting the waiter. No wonder the store was empty! We then left and were dismissed with the words, "It's for the best."

I haven't experienced such bad service in a long time. The waitress made us wait more than 30 minutes for the menu. She was also very unfriendly. There were only three tables occupied in the entire store, and yet she still couldn't find us a clean table. Instead, we had to wait 30 minutes for a table + 30 minutes for the menu. The waitress also intentionally ignored us several times. I wouldn't recommend this bakery to anyone. There are 10 better bakery places.

Extremely unfriendly service. We weren't served for 20 minutes, even though we politely asked for menus. When I got them myself and we were ready to order, we were still deliberately ignored. After another 10 minutes, we left. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back.

There were five of us there and we politely asked for a table. The waitress didn't greet us warmly or make us feel welcome. After we were seated, and after 10 minutes, no one had brought us a menu, we asked for one. Since no one came, we helped ourselves. Another 10 minutes later, we were seen several times but deliberately ignored. It should be noted that only two other tables were occupied—so it wasn't because the place was busy that we had to wait. Since no one came, we got up and left. There was no "bye" or a question about whether everything was okay or whether she would be right there. It's unnecessary—in that case, the lady should change her profession.

Worst service in a long time!! We'd been sitting for 20 minutes and we hadn't even been offered a menu. This woman was in a really bad mood and the place wasn't even remotely full... Thanks for the bad service!!!

My family, friends, and I used to be big fans of the Backspielhaus on Weltenburgerstrasse. The menu, drinks, food, ambiance, and service were great, except sometimes it was a bit crowded and loud. The food is still good, but the portions are getting smaller, the drinks aren't what they used to be. Sometimes there are two coffee sizes on the menu, but then they tell you they only have the large one, and the prices are also questionably high. I'm willing to pay a little more if it makes me feel good, but the service has deteriorated dramatically!!! Regardless of whether we had a reservation or not, we were always seated in rather unpleasant seats, and our requests weren't accommodated. Sometimes (unfortunately, several times, until I asked them to stop) other tables were served over ours – meaning I almost had the server's armpits in my plate... Impossible!! The usher, along with one waitress, is also "very unfriendly" and keeps moving us, claiming that reservations have already been made, even though half the outdoor area was empty and was unoccupied during our at least two-hour stay. Reservation signs weren't visible. Unfortunately, this also happened to many other guests, who then simply stayed seated out of spite. They're probably waiting for even larger crowds here. I wonder why management doesn't finally take action after so many complaints and let their good reputation slip away. In any case, we won't be coming again until the service improves, because Munich has much better places to offer, where customers are still king.

The eggs benedicte sandwich is to die for, highly recommend!

The breakfast is super delicious, and the sandwiches are also great. It's the ideal place for late risers to fortify themselves for the day. The service is very friendly and helpful. The outdoor area is a real eye-catcher in good weather.

Love it here! I really enjoy brunch at Backspielhaus – especially because of the fresh and really good quality food. During peak times, it's definitely worth making a reservation – but with a bit of a wait, you can usually get a seat anyway. The service is often a bit rushed, which is understandable given the crowds. Still, a warmer welcome would be nice and would make the experience even more complete. I can still recommend it and will be happy to come back!

Way too expensive. I mean just way too much. The stuff is ok. Same ok which is in every bakery kinda ok. The prices make no sense at all. Also, weird service setup. Gotta go inside to order for baked goods. And walk out with a piece of paper back to your table. I might as well order my coffee inside myself.

I can't say anything about the food. But I can say something about the service. Unfriendly service. Lukewarm beer. I won't repeat.

We're completely appalled. €5 for a small coffee with oat milk didn't taste good either. The prices on the breakfast menu 😳 are outrageous! My oriental salad wasn't made with love at all and cost €18, and I wasn't even full... The smoothie was €9.50. Despite everything, I gave a €1 tip; the staff were nice, at least. Never again...

I've known the Backspielhaus since it opened and the prices have always been a bit high, but now the price-performance ratio is no longer right and unfortunately the food is no longer lovingly presented on the plates.

The Backspielhaus on Weltenburgerstraße is a standardized place with a very good—albeit somewhat expensive—breakfast, a cozy destination! The very best server is Marina! I always enjoy sitting in her service! A very friendly and courteous, lovely professional.

The food was expensive, but tasty. The staff was very unfriendly, making you feel like a nuisance... We've been to many restaurants, but I've never experienced such an unpleasant attitude. The tables and chairs outside were uncomfortable, outdated, and there was hardly any space. The parking lot was full, so you couldn't park directly in front of the building, but that's not a big deal. We've been here many times, but this was definitely the last time...

What a great menu! What friendly service! But what a lovely atmosphere! The decor gets changed every now and then to suit the season, the meals are tasty, and the atmosphere is very comfortable. A tip would be if there could be more kids engaging stuff to do, as it’s a place clearly welcome to families…! Perfect for a Saturday, Sunday Brunch… Reservation is needed for a visit..!

I live around the corner from Backspielhaus, and my wife and I really enjoy going there. I can't understand the minor complaints others have made, but they do downgrade the mixed reviews. I find the food here to be very good and the service very personal. The price is high, but I appreciate the atmosphere and am happy to pay the price.

At this price level, you expect not only good food (which was okay), but also friendly and professional staff. Unfortunately, the latter wasn't the case. It wasn't full, so it couldn't have been attributed to stress. I've never experienced such rudeness and unprofessional treatment of guests. It's a shame. I've now seen from the reviews that this isn't an isolated incident. Therefore, we won't be coming back.

The Backspielhaus has a nice atmosphere, but unfortunately, the value for money is not at all right. The food tasted okay, but definitely overpriced for the quality offered. The food was good, the drinks not so much. The house soda tasted unpleasantly sour, and the Prosecco in the Spritz wasn't great. The service was stressed and harsh. The other lady was nicer. The atmosphere was fun.

Backspielhaus is always worth a visit. It's quick, you can usually get a seat quickly, and the food 😘... soooo incredibly delicious. I've only had good experiences with the waiters so far; everyone is super friendly, even when it's sometimes hectic. My absolute favorite place for breakfast. ❤️❤️❤️ The only downside is that it's quite expensive. I usually spend around €30-40 for just myself.

First of all, the waiter was very nice and competent but charging 16 euros for a bit of scrambled eggs and cold cuts and 8.50 for a lemonade is bordering on perversion that is unparalleled.

Terrible service, you're ignored while waiting at the entrance to be assigned a seat, even though they see you standing there! You're not even welcome anyway; that would be asking too much. Also, the prices are exorbitant...

I wanted to enjoy coffee and cake there around 3 p.m. today... Official opening hours are until 5 p.m. But by 3 p.m., everything was closed and dark. Then it would be better to write "opening hours" without specifying them... Since they don't adhere to them anyway.

We visited Backspielhaus for the first time today, and we really enjoyed it. The service was excellent, the food was good, and we also really liked the ambiance. Personally, I would have liked a bit more tomato and mozzarella in the scrambled eggs at the Italian breakfast, but that's the only thing I can find to complain about, if you're looking for something to complain about. We'll definitely be back!

We wanted to go to Father's Day today. I called ahead and was told, "Yes, there are seats available, just come on in." No sooner said than done. The result: There were no seats available. We waited like that for 15 minutes, then we were seated outside (the weather wasn't great, otherwise it would have been fine), and then we waited another 15 minutes for service. We didn't even get a ticket. It's a shame, the last time was just as much of a drama. We won't be coming back.

Unfortunately, our visit was anything but pleasant. Upon arrival, we were neither greeted nor received in a friendly manner. During our conversation, someone even put a hand over my face—a clear signal that my opinion was not welcome. Even if service is stressful, treating guests with respect should be a given. The food may have been delicious, but with this kind of treatment, we see no reason to return.

It has a lot of potential and seems to work economically - but the customer service is in the bottom league. Very unfortunate. We were big fans but we will reorient ourselves as waiting 30 minutes to be greeted is unacceptable

Unfortunately, all meals that were supposed to be served warm were delivered cold (e.g. fried eggs or grilled goat cheese). Unfortunately it also contained plastic. The fact that the waitress confirmed to us that the kitchen does not have a warming platform is one reason for this. From our point of view, a “no go”. The size of the portions also left a lot to be desired for the price asked. The day of the visit was busy and staffing was poor. Our waitress tried hard, but was overwhelmed.

We came on May 4, 2025 at 3:45 p.m. and ordered 2 pieces of cake at the counter, which hadn't found their way to our table until 4:15 p.m. Unfortunately, we once again left your shop without having accomplished anything. The friendliness of your staff leaves more than to be desired. My tip to you: use robots. You don't expect friendliness, but the service is certainly faster.

It used to be better. Now it's just overpriced and the quality isn't any better. 6 euros for tea and almost 20 euros for pancakes. 👎

Ein leckeres Frühstück in einer gut duftenden Umgebung ist hier garantiert. Das Servicepersonal ist sehr freundlich und verbindlich. Man versucht jeden Wunsch zu erfüllen. Letztendlich ist die Lokation auch immer gut besucht und daher ist am Wochenende ist eine Reservierung sinnvoll - aber bei einer guten Location ist es so. Unsere Kölner-Freunde waren das letzte Mal auf jeden Fall begeistert.

It is always a great pleasure to have breakfast at BACKSPIEELHAUS. Wonderful location, extensive menu, very good products, fair prices and very friendly and considerate staff! What more could you want?

We went to the Backspielhaus for breakfast with four adults and three children. Unfortunately, our visit was rather disappointing - especially in view of the price-performance ratio. The food was okay, but we expected more for a place with such a well-known name. The ambience seemed unkempt: vintage style is generally nice, but when furniture is damaged, the tables are wobbling and nothing is set, it seems more careless than charming. Although we had reserved for seven people, the table was neither prepared nor properly set. The handling of the Prosecco was particularly disappointing: we were served four half-empty glasses. The waitress - friendly but new - couldn't help us and referred us to the boss. I didn't want to visit him while I was eating, but instead spoke to him as I walked. The answer was unprofessional: “Why didn’t you say that in the first place?” – For a hotel with high standards, the service at the table should react, not the guest chasing after them. We paid just under 220 euros for an hour and a half of breakfast - for that I expect more quality, attention to detail and better service. Unfortunately, the overall impression was: mass instead of class. It's a shame, but it was definitely the last time for us.

Writing marinated salmon on the cards and then using normal salmon is a disgrace.

We just love it here. The ambience and food is awesome. We love the fresh rolls with the delicious jam. Can recommend everything on the menu. On sunny days it's also nice to sit on the terrace. Dear Marina is a very attentive and nice service person. We are very satisfied every time. Thank you for the nice service! :)

We wanted to celebrate breaking the fast today. I reserved a table for this 2 weeks ago. The ambience in the backspielhaus is simply wonderful and fascinating. The food and drinks on offer are also impeccable. Unfortunately there is a waitress there (older, southern, a little firmer) who ruins our good mood every time. The last time we were simply pushed aside because we were supposed to be in... Standing away and this time the tip wasn't enough. When I asked if we should give the tip in cash, her answer was "It's not that much, it's fine! I have to be fair here that I didn't change gears so quickly and didn't really think about the 10 percent. Shame on me! But such a reaction towards customers doesn't have to be the case. Things only got bad when she vented her displeasure and immediately went to the lady (green suit, long black hair) and pointed her finger at us and made fun of us. From her facial expressions and that too We could see this very well when the finger was pointed at us. Afterwards we went to the bakery (the bakery and the kitchen are open on Weltenburgerstr) to explain the same behavior to two colleagues there. Finger pointed at us with that Head bobbed and displayed like that. We, 6 adults, found this to be very cross-border and hurtful. Service is important and of course you should make sure to tip appropriately, whatever we do! Not just in the bakery! In the end, we felt so paraded that we scraped together our cash (in times of digitalism we no longer carry cash) that I went to the lady again and gave her another 7 euros. I apologized for not switching gears so quickly. Her answer: I was just very shocked! There is always a bitter aftertaste with this waitress, her disrespectful manner towards customers is very noticeable, as has been read in several reviews here. She's probably very stressed, but when you go to the backspielhaus you're giving yourself a special break. It's not just the food but the whole ambience. Even if our tip wasn't enough from the waitress's point of view. I have to say, taking an order, bringing the food and then clearing it away again is certainly not “service” in this sense! There are many service employees who do their job even under much more difficult conditions If you pass by, ask, is everything ok and also have a smile on your face... the next time, if in your opinion you didn't give enough tip, you should consider whether you haven't worked for a long time for this visit... Therefore, please reconsider the way you deal with customers so that you can then implement this criticism constructively, because that is what criticism is for.

The price has always been high, but now you can't go there anymore because the price/performance ratio is no longer right. And don't be too bold to come half an hour before closing time. Then most of the store is already cordoned off ;-)

I don't (need) to have brunch again! My friends and I had made a reservation in advance, and when we arrived on time and sat down at our great spot in the winter garden, we were asked to get up because the 'regulars' had arrived! They were 50 minutes late, but still there, and we had to go somewhere else. As compensation, we were given a glass of Prosecco each... I still think that's an absolute no-go, especially since I'm not sure if they were regulars or good acquaintances of the usherette. Our new waiter was very nice and served us very quickly and even brought us more bread upon request. Unfortunately, there was a tiny bit of a hair in my meal, but I was immediately given a new dish. I enjoyed the food once I'd ignored everything else. Since, in addition to the mediocre service, I also find the prices outrageously expensive (soda €10?!, scrambled eggs around €10? Airport prices), I won't be coming back again.

We have enjoyed coming to the Backspielhaus on Weltenburger Straße for years. Today we sat comfortably in the sun and enjoyed the warm sun. Top breakfast as always, nice staff and great service. Always a great location for a delicious breakfast in a special atmosphere.

The Backspielhaus Weltenburger Straße is an absolute must for anyone who wants to enjoy good food in a wonderful ambience. The atmosphere is inviting and stylish – perfect for a leisurely breakfast, a relaxed brunch or a little break in between. The service is extremely friendly and attentive, so you feel comfortable right from the start. I was particularly impressed by the quality of the food: everything is prepared with a lot of love and care, and you can taste it too! From the fresh baked goods to the delicious dishes – everything is perfect here. I will definitely be back and can fully recommend the Backspielhaus!

Nadja is very special waitress, she has a beautiful personality, she is extremely professional & always provides exceptional service with a big 😀 smile! She graciously accommodates multiple tables with ease as a skillful multi Tasker. The concept of the restaurant is amazing...everything freshly baked & homecooked. Whether you are 2 people, a family celebrating a special occasion or corporate group for a casual & funky brunch....this is the place. During the summer months they offer outdoor seating, in the cooler months the inside is a warm & cozy atmosphere. Today I wanted to celebrate International Women's Day with a few friends and that's why we went to the Backspielhaus. The breakfast was delicious, but unfortunately the service was unfriendly. She didn't greet us, and the first thing she said to us was in a very unfriendly tone: "The kitchen is overwhelmed and you can only order in half an hour." The rest of the service was characterized by unfriendliness. We couldn't give a tip for this waitress, which caused her to serve herself. She simply increased the amount by 3 euros. It's not much, but I find it absolutely outrageous. And she only gave the money back when asked and after checking the receipt. We wanted to spend some quality time there and by the end the day was totally ruined. For me it was the last time I went there. And people, when you go out to eat there, be sure to pay attention to how much the waitress actually takes!!

Incredible cheek! The two of us sat at a table for half an hour and waited for the service to come. She just managed to seat us and give us the cards. After that she walked past us several times and ignored us. In addition, she walked in “idle gear” (empty tray, empty hands). At least then she would have had time to take our order. Would have needed the kitchen then - ok. But this? A single impudence. I can't recommend it. Bad staff. When we went out we pointed out to her that it had taken too long. I can understand her. But she didn't get an apology.

To be honest... the quality and ambience are good, but they won't see me again: a muesli is offered at the counter for just under 4 euros 60 (take away), which was ok for me; I ate one in the house, assuming it would cost maybe 5.50 or 6 or 6.50, and then I had to pay almost 9 EURO!!! pay - everything that's right, but TWICE as much!!!??... So we paid 26 EURO for a butter pretzel, a cappuccino, a latte macchiato and just some muesli, an average of over 10 euros more than in all other comparable bakeries. Munich is not cheap, of course, but in my opinion this is nothing more and nothing less than a real rip-off.

Not recommended at all. It's a drag everywhere, furniture is outdated and uncomfortable, service is extremely unfriendly and breakfast was mostly ok, but by no means worth the prices quoted.

02/02/2025 - Tall blonde waitress absolute disaster! Unfriendly is a nice way to put it: the lady comes to the table and acts as if we owed her something. I've been coming here for years, but you have to get the service under control otherwise the nice waitress will soon have to look for a new place to work.

The price performance is not right here. The breakfast is good, but the price is now too high. The service was quite inattentive and slow even though we were there on a weekday and it wasn't busy.

Sehr unhöflicher Mitarbeiter. Wollte mit Apple Pay bezahlen - ging nicht da Sparkassenkunde. Bargeld und Karte hatte ich nicht dabei. Lt. Ihrem Mitarbeiter weiß jeder das es mit der Sparkassenkarte nicht funktioniert. Hat mich dann blöd angemacht dass er den Kakao dann wegschütten musste - von Höflichkeit gegenüber Kunden hat ihr Mitarbeiter keine Ahnung. Nächstes mal besser Schulen wie man mit Kunden umgeht. Beim nächsten Bäcker war es übrigens kein Problem so zu bezahlen.

Huge selection of breakfasts and a nice atmosphere - almost like you're on vacation! This is worth its price! The only downside: there are no mimosas (but you can mix them yourself if necessary 😉).

I come to the Backspielhaus at least once a week. It's always fun to treat yourself to a break in a bakery that's lovingly decorated according to the season. The service is warm and friendly at all times. The normal menu and the daily menu offer dishes for every taste. Not cheap but absolutely worth the price. The mini rolls served are super tasty and can even be taken away. Overall, a place to slow down.

For years we have been dining once a week at the Backspielhaus on Weltenburgerstr. We were never disappointed, every dish met our expectations. Interesting place but you have to wait lot of time in order for someone to come and serve you. After that the food comes fast. You basically need to ask to be served. The prices are also quite high. An avocado sandwich is 15 euro min. Coffee is above 4 euro even for cappuccino.

My absolute favorite restaurant! I've been a regular here for some time and always enjoy coming back. The service is simply first class - friendly, attentive and warm. This restaurant is always the right choice. Many thanks to the whole team I look forward to my next visit!

Disgraceful and discriminatory service – never again!” My girlfriend and I visited this restaurant today and had an extremely disappointing experience. After we were moved anyway because of our stroller and the rude waitress decided not to tip, my friend, who wears a hat, was treated in a very rude and discriminatory manner by the waitress. She said that she was the “manager” here and that we should never come back. It seemed like her reaction to our decision not to tip was influenced by prejudice. Every guest deserves to be treated with kindness and respect, regardless of dress or behavior. We will definitely not visit this restaurant again and cannot recommend it in any way. Very disappointing! Treating guests in this way, especially based on a tipping decision, is unacceptable. Waiters or restaurant employees should always remain polite and respectful, regardless of the size of the tip or what it is!!!! If you read the reviews here, you will see similar negative experiences with the service. It seems like this is a recurring problem. This can be very damaging to the restaurant if the behavior of the alleged “leader” does not change.

Went to the Backspielhaus in the afternoon and had pancake berries for 6 p.m. € ordered. Three small pancakes that looked more like mini donuts were served with popcorn, marshmallow and a little berry compote. When the bill came, I decided not to tip because I believe that tips are for particularly good service, which unfortunately wasn't the case here. When the waitress noticed that no tip had been given, she asked in a very intrusive manner whether everything was OK with the pancakes. I tried to explain that the pancakes were too small and the price was way too high, but before I even fully voiced my thoughts could, she interrupted me and simply walked away. She waved her hand at me to keep my mouth shut and disappeared. Absolutely unprofessional behavior.

Hygiene underground Was invited and then asked never to have to go there again. Greasy, dirty and the lady behind the counter didn't even have gloves on the packaged, sorted food and was constantly wiping her face. Coffee splashes on tiles, dried jam on the edges of the table, etc. The rolls were burnt and when asked, there were replacements (rolling my eyes), which unfortunately weren't any better. The service person apologized and said that she had probably raised the problem several times but nothing had changed. Once and never again.

We were seated quite rudely and unfriendly at a very tiny table, despite having a reservation. We wanted to go there again. The employee who served us was at least somewhat friendly. However, we then waited over half an hour for the bill even though we had asked for it several times. Every time they said “I’ll be right back” and then simply walked past us several times. We then went to the front to pay and she said we hadn't said we wanted to pay!? We didn't feel comfortable here and the prices are completely exorbitant! €5.90 for a cup of tea is completely unreasonable. Breakfast for 2 is listed on the homepage as €39, but in fact it now costs €49! That was definitely our last visit here, for unfriendly, inattentive service and average food such prices, no thanks.

Disappointing start to the new year at Café Backspielhaus I had breakfast at Café Backspielhaus on the first day of the new year and had high expectations. The service was friendly, but the lady who showed us the place was anything but pleasant. She seemed completely out of place, harsh and impudent We had made a reservation for five people and needed another chair due to an additional person. Even though the café was empty, the lady seemed overwhelmed and annoyed by our request. When we tried to help her, she responded with a rude comment: "Do you want to do my job?" and handed us her documents. In such a nice cafe with high prices, I expect better quality of service. It is unfortunate that the first impression was made so negative by an unfriendly employee. Why do you have to be so annoyed on the first day of the new year? I hope the café works on staff management in the future because the atmosphere should contribute to a positive experience.

When it comes to unfriendliness, arrogance and impudence, you can't beat it. For our birthday breakfast we had ordered a specific table (because we had a dog) for 7 people. After the usual waiting time, we were taken to the table we had ordered. Then we made the mistake of saying there were only 5 of us (father-in-law had an accident the day before). We were then taken to a table for a normal maximum of 3 people, now already with 4 chairs. We pointed out that we wanted the table we had ordered. The manager replied that we won't get it unless we order breakfast for 7 people. Another friendly attempt was met with the arrogant statement that we can take the table for three or five or leave. Then she turned around and left. I've been going there since the Backspielhaus opened (approx. 30 years) because I lived nearby. You could see how things got worse and worse the greater the demand. That's why we haven't been going there for the last few years. This time it was the most accessible for everyone. But now it was finally the last time. When I imagine that I felt compassion for the owner's whining after Corona and went back more often. That was a mistake.

A great place for brunch with girlfriends. Location was beautifully decorated for Christmas, food and service were very good.
