Augustiner dark beer (Heller) tastes slightly bitter at first but immediately turns into a sweet wheat aroma. The German sausage is classic and delicious. The boneless pork knuckle has crispy skin and thick meat, which is just right with sauerkraut!

Best Bavarian Restaurant and Best Beer in Town I've been going to the Augustiner at the Frauenkirche for over 15 years, and I have to admit that the food didn't really impress me in the early years. But as a Munich native, I was naturally very happy about the opening of an Augustiner brewery restaurant. After all, Edelstoff and Augustiner Hell have been among my favorite beers since the late 1970s. Nowadays, you can also enjoy really good food at the Augustiner at the Frauenkirche, even if some dishes don't always quite match the original. But that's ultimately a matter of taste and doesn't detract from the quality. Despite its prime location right next to the Frauenkirche, the Augustiner isn't just visited by tourists but also enjoys numerous regulars, so a reservation is always recommended. As a single guest, you should expect to be assigned a seat at the bar. In Bavaria, it's common to sit together with strangers at large tables, which has often led to interesting and entertaining conversations. This is rare in Saxony and not very popular, which is why guests are usually seated separately. The move to the renovated premises only took place two years ago due to the need for renovation of the old restaurant. Therefore, the patina of a pub is still missing, but the decor and the terrace with its classic seating are well-executed. I probably don't need to emphasize that one of the best beers in the world is served here. It's especially recommended when it comes from a wooden barrel, which is served here (almost) daily from 6:00 PM, but only while supplies last. The strong beer for Lent ("Maximator") was only available in bottles – serving it on tap is unlikely to be worthwhile outside of Bavaria. The wine selection is limited, but typical of a brewery restaurant. The Grüner Veltliner, as an all-purpose wine, is certainly drinkable. One or two more white wines by the glass in this price range would be desirable, however. There are plenty of decent and affordable Austrian and Franconian wines to choose from. The menu offers a very good selection. Bavarian pub-goers might miss their beef tartare and the obligatory roast beef with onions, but everyone should be able to find something to their liking on the extensive standard menu, which is supplemented by seasonal dishes. Price-wise, the Saxon Augustiner is slightly higher than its sister restaurant and the main restaurant on Neuhauser Straße in Munich (roast pork DD: €19.90, M: €18.50; Edelstoff DD: €5.50, M: €4.55), but this is acceptable. The service is friendly and attentive, and complaints (the wrong soup) are dealt with promptly and without fuss. The liver dumpling soup was very intense in color and flavor, so the broth exactly met my expectations – no additional seasoning was necessary. Only the dumplings seemed a bit too firm and dry to me. Adding a bit more dumpling bread or shortening the cooking time might help. The "Stuffed Schnitzel" was a visual delight, and the taste was beyond reproach. Even in the few places where the filling didn't reach, the meat was in excellent condition: tender and by no means dry. A stronger and more substantial cheese would have made the dish almost perfect. The extremely tasty potato salad was also nothing to be ashamed of. I would order both the soup and the schnitzel again. Since not only the quality of the carefully prepared dishes but also the portion sizes are just right, I consider the price-performance ratio to be well-balanced. I will definitely be coming here often and can wholeheartedly recommend a visit to the Augustiner at the Frauenkirche.

Everything was great, except the air in the room. We were about 18 people in a booth, with another 5 people at the next table. The waitress should have opened a window, which we did as quickly as the table of five left. Nevertheless, the rest was great, the food was awesome. Also the price. We'd love to come back. ☝🏻☝🏻☝🏻

Our first time there was dinner at the Augustiner an der Frauenkirche. With a reservation we got a table with a view of the Dresden Frauenkirche. After a few minutes our orders were taken and promptly brought to the table. The food was really very tasty. We'd love to come back here next time.

If you are a party of one, the only option is sitting at the bar (which was not wide). After I declined, I was told to go across the way to a "sister" restaurant of theirs. Sorry, but if you do not provide a table for one here, why would I expect a table for one there? Found a restaurant nearby that happily provided me with a small table for dinner.

The service is back in the hotel, which I think is GREAT. So this time, full marks. The staff were super attentive and served guests very quickly, just as they should. The food was also delicious, a huge compliment to the kitchen.

The Augustiner is always worth a visit. There are delicious beers. The team is very accommodating. Kudos for that. We'll definitely be back.

Not typically Saxon, but a typical brewery right next to the Frauenkirche. Service was good and food was quick. The roast was a bit dry and unfortunately we were seated a bit awkwardly. At first the window next to us seemed to be a window, but over time it was opened as a door to the outdoor area and used again and again by the employees. Otherwise everything is good.

Got the pork knuckle, it was very good. Friendly staff and atmosphere. I would recommend it if you are interested in a safe bet for German style food

Have a beer and enjoy the spaces, that's the max here. They don't know how to cook, the broth and the duck was a big shame. They shouldn't take money for that but apologize. Beer below average. The company did not live up to expectations..

As a native of Munich, the bar is of course very high here. I had the beer goulash which was quite good, but it was more like a goulash soup as there was far too much sauce which was far too runny. And the bread dumplings were far too compact and far too small. It still tasted good. But the highlight here is the beer anyway and the ambience is great too. I would come again.

Waiters here are energetic and helpful introducing their best cuisine to customers. We enjoyed the best crispy pork kunckle and best beer here- my husband loves Augustiner Helles even he never like any beer.

To be honest I don't expected it to be that good..

The presentation is great, I think it's a good Bavarian restaurant in the middle of Dresden. I had crusted roast, my friend had Nuremberger and we also had potato soup and cheese soup. The food was very tasty. The service was friendly and accommodating.

Very nicely located Bavarian restaurant in the middle of Dresden. Excellent Bavarian cuisine. The Käsespätzle are better than in Munich. Very friendly staff with incredibly fast service. Another positive thing to mention is that there is little fluctuation in staff, which indicates a good working atmosphere. Why do so many regular guests probably keep coming back? It's a dream to sit on the terrace, the vaulted cellar conveys authentic Bavarian cosiness. A new vaulted cellar will soon be added. The highlight is the space in the bay window on the first floor with a fantastic view of the cathedral. The portions are large and inexpensive. Excellent beer service, and the Augustiner beer speaks for itself. Really a place where the Munich cosiness has returned and invites you to linger and have a communicative exchange. I always enjoy coming there, even as a Munich resident

Great food and beer right next to the main square in Dresden. Really enjoyed the Hefeweizen and dunkel, my wife enjoyed the selection of German wine.

We were very directly asked to pay the bill and leave the restaurant because our table had been reserved for the next guests without our knowledge. Very cheeky treatment, we will definitely not be coming back and can only advise against the Augustiner. Tourist trap with mass processing at the Frauenkirche.

Very recommended as a typical Bavarian place, with service in traditional costume and very friendly, very assorted menu with many dishes. I recommend booking and it's always full and with huge waiting lists. The beer list is excellent and very extensive.

Great inn in the middle of Dresden! The staff was very friendly, the food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. At first we sat in the lower area, but were moved upstairs because we were dissatisfied with being seated at a table with four strangers - even though there were still free tables available. What is very positive is that the opening times were strictly adhered to, even when we were almost the last guests.

I arrived around 2:30 PM on a Friday and was able to be seated right away. I didn't really understand the menu, so I just saw the word "pig knuckle" and thought it was Schweinhaxen, so I tried to order it, but the waiter was very kind and explained the differences, saying that this was probably what you wanted. When I asked him to recommend a draft beer, he explained the entire draft beer menu. The employees were friendly and the food was delicious.

We already know it from Munich. Bavarian, delicious, recommended.

It was our first day in Dresden and we spontaneously decided to have dinner at Augustiner. We were assigned a table. After about 1.5 hours a waiter came and said the table was now reserved. But we weren't told that beforehand!! We still had something to drink and the waiter said we could finish it in peace. Shortly afterwards the next person came and barked at us that we should leave now, he had told us at the entrance that the table was reserved from 6:45 p.m. Which wasn't true! We would have said straight away that we wanted to stay longer. Or are you only allowed to stay in this restaurant for 90 minutes? We then asked the boss because this way of dealing with guests is unacceptable. He came and threw us out!! His words: he doesn't care what we have to say. Such behavior as a boss is simply unbelievable. Augustinian - no thanks

I was thinking about going somewhere else, but since this brand's restaurants in many places are above average, I went there and it was crowded. The food was good as expected, but the Schweinhakse was cooked too long and was too hard, so I was a little disappointed. I deducted one star because it seemed to be the most unsatisfactory among the many Schwein schools. Still, I came back after having a nice meal with my family.

We were on a city trip in Dresden and discovered this well-attended original Bavarian brewery, right in the middle of Dresden city center. The service staff is friendly and courteous.

Unfortunately not a highlight. The service was annoyed and tried to be friendly, but couldn't hide the fact that he actually didn't want to. The starter (Saxon potato soup) was okay, but not a highlight in terms of taste. My ox cheeks were the highlight of my enjoyment. And now the catastrophe: the beer was stale. I have no idea what happened here, but you couldn't drink that, even though we as a group were looking forward to a nice noble drink from the barrel. The price is just okay. But unfortunately not recommended like this evening.

The food was freshly prepared. The breading on my cordon bleu even came off.👍 The potato salad was homemade. Roast pork with two medium-sized bread dumplings and jus, all homemade. You can taste it, that's how it should be. Many thanks to the kitchen for this great work. The service staff is attentive and quick, friendly but not intrusive. Anyone who knows the Augustinian houses from Munich can stop by here in Dresden at any time and you can't go wrong here. Many thanks to the entire team for a lovely evening

Excellent address, lively and open late in the evening even in winter. The dishes are very generous and the value for money is excellent. There are few vegetarian options but they are very satisfying. The Kaizerschmarrn was super good!! The service is efficient and friendly.

No. It was very loud. The food was a disaster. The sauerbraten was a tough piece of beef There were a lot of raisins in it, but not a bit sour. The red cabbage had no taste. I had trout with potatoes and salad. There was no fish knife. A plate to put the bones on was not provided. You could eat them with additional salt. The salad had apparently been in the marinade for ages Too bad about the food. There was also a lot left over at the other tables.

Went there spontaneously for dinner after our arrival in Dresden. The restaurant was busy, we had to wait a short time, but were then quickly assigned a free table. According to my husband, the Wiener Schnitzel was really tasteless and the potato salad was a bit too cold and could have used a bit more kick. The stuffed pork schnitzel with cheese and ham was very good, the shandy was fresh and tasty! The service was on point and super nice! Overall, a good start to our stay! :) Thank you!

Just sat outside for a beer. Service very friendly. Very nice view of the Frauenkirche. Were there several times... today, Sunday, September 1st. Super nice waitress, she was pretty too.... good food, good inexpensive light beer under 5 euros.... what more could you want... would love to come back.... Had dinner again today. It probably wasn't the cook's day. Liver dumpling soup was fantastic, (a bit cold) brawn with fried potatoes worked like this. I didn't eat despite being hungry. Aspic had a strange aftertaste, fried potatoes tasted burnt, were not cooked and were ok. Low salt is my taste. Remoulade is very tasty. Can you really do better?

The "new" Augustiner is just as successful as the "old" one, which is currently being rebuilt. Delicious Bavarian cuisine and good Augustiner beers. And sitting there with a view of the Frauenkirche (also outside in summer), that's a beautiful view.

The best (and freshest) food we could find in Dresden. Clean, fragrant, tasty. The crowd is not surprising and the place definitely deserves more stars. The staff could use a bit of a smile and less rudeness (especially when pointing to the table), but it's definitely worth it for the meals themselves.

Today we had a very nice evening in the Augustiner Dresden restaurant. The service is very attentive and friendly. The dishes are very rich and tasty. The price/performance ratio is consistent and corresponds to today's conditions.

Allergen cards are not taken seriously here. I ate in the restaurant twice. First visit, ordered gluten-free dish ox cheeks according to the menu. Mashed potatoes were garnished with fried onions (breaded in flour and deep fried). I was able to complain and received a new portion. Ok, that can happen, I thought. Second visit, ordered gluten-free potato soup according to the menu. I asked again when ordering and was assured that it was gluten-free. Mostly eaten and found spaetzle at the bottom of the soup. I have a severe gluten allergy and now have to suffer the consequences. Restaurant is not recommended for those with intolerances. Please train the kitchen and staff immediately and give them proper instructions.

The location is large, cozy, modern and furnished with a typical Augustinian touch. The location is still great, especially in summer, the restaurant has a lot of outside seating and the view of the Frauenkirche sweetens the stay. The staff is mostly friendly, unfortunately there are still a few people who make you feel unwanted (maybe you've had a really bad day). However, service has always been quick and attentive. The food has improved significantly, which makes me personally happy. It doesn't quite meet the price-performance ratio, but such prices can now be found everywhere.

The beer is delicious and the food is delicious too. In particular, be sure to eat the white sausage soaked in water.

A typical drinking hall that understands good cuisine. I've been there many times and will be back again. Only the service could do their job a little more attentively. If you have to make an effort to get a beer, then you should definitely work it out...

The food we got was very good, but the service was worse than bad. We arrived with a stroller to a fairly empty restaurant and needed a table for two. We were told we could sit anywhere. After we sat down we were told that this was the regulars' table and that it had to remain free. A waiter suggested the big table next door where we sat down, but at that moment another waiter told us not to take the big table please. So we went upstairs and sat down where we were asked again if we wanted to change tables. Mind you, there was really almost nothing going on. We insisted on staying at this table. We ordered starters and main courses, and the starters came relatively quickly too. They were really tasty too. Unfortunately nothing happened after that. After at least 40-50 minutes we asked and were told the order had been forgotten. We then left without eating the main course. An apology was made, but that was it. I wouldn't eat here again. From the beginning I didn't feel welcome here. By the way, no one was sitting at the regulars' table, just like at the other table, the whole time.

They serve quite large portions. The food is good and so is the beer. The waiters are very attentive.
