The food was very tasty. Huge drawback, however: we ordered a mixed plate for three (for around 60 euros) and unfortunately I can't describe the amount of vegetables and legumes served (really not expensive products) as anything other than outrageous. Maybe the other dishes are bigger, but I can't judge that.

A very warm restaurant with a great atmosphere. The dishes – from starters to dessert – are all lovingly and freshly prepared. For newcomers to Ethiopian cuisine, we definitely recommend the “mixed” plate (for several people). We will definitely come back.

Forever a long wait, both for the menu and for the food. We waited about 90 minutes for food!! This is really too much. The portions were very small and unfortunately not enough. But it tasted really good! When paying, a large spritzer was entered even though a small one was ordered. I pointed it out, I was standing next to it at the checkout. The gentleman excused himself and immediately started typing a big one again. This happened three times. I really didn't feel like I was being taken seriously, something like that is shameful.

Very tasty food and beautiful courtyard. However, everything took quite a long time. It took half an hour from ordering to drinks and then another hour until we had our food (even though we ordered everything together). Dessert also took another half hour. So it's best to bring plenty of time ;-)

The food is incredibly tasty, the staff and the owner are really friendly and I really like the atmosphere. I can highly recommend the platter for two people if you don't want to commit to one dish. The food was very tasty and authentic, appropriate portions. Be sure to make a reservation on the weekend, otherwise you will have to sit outside. Service was also nice, but the reason why it's only 3 stars is the waiting time. Drinks (tea) - 30min Starter (dumpling) - 45min Main course - 65min I think that's crazy, considering the restaurant was only moderately full.

Visited with friends on a chilly June evening. Good service, tasty food, cozy back area, modest prices. No complaints really - if you're into Ethiopian food, this is the place.

This was my second time at Ethio, and I chose to celebrate my birthday here with a group of 9 people. I could not have been happier with my choice! My guests all loved the food (we had 3 shared plates: meat plates for 4 and 3 people + 1 vegan plate for 3 people) and they could not decide which dish was their favourite because everything was really super delicious!! The service could not have been better as well! We had a table outside in the lovely terrace with garden; the staff was super friendly and the owner even gifted us a bottle of Prosecco when he found out it was my birthday!! (and played a bday song on the speakers) :) This is a lovely family restaurant, with amazing food and welcoming staff. I was able to meet the chef who was super friendly as well. I am sure you will have a great time at Ethio! :D (The price was very reasonable ! And again, the food is incredibly good) P.S. If you want to experience a Coffee ceremony you should let them know as soon as you arrive or even when you make a table reservation :)

I come from Bremen and regularly discover new things with a friend from Hamburg. Our visit yesterday was definitely a highlight. The food, the house platter and the coconut dessert were fantastic. In addition, the owner couple created a warm atmosphere, so that I felt like I was visiting dear relatives. Half of German restaurateurs could learn a lot about service here. We will definitely come back, even if the terrace is open.

I was eating Ethiopian for the first time in my life and I wasn't convinced that I would like it, I was afraid that it would be spicy. We were given very good advice, really very good and extremely courteous. My fears didn't come true, it tasted delicious. Definitely a place to go often!

A very nice and cozy restaurant with great food and courteous and friendly staff. The food was very good and a great experience to eat without a knife and fork. Sharing and tasting the different dishes was great and you could experience the different styles and their seasonings. By the way, the Ethiopian beer was also highly recommended🍻

Although the restaurant was full and there were only two people serving, we were served very courteously and everything was explained to us in detail. Wunderbares Restaurant das Essen war genial außerdem hatten wir noch ein Gewürztee und äthiopisches Bier. Wir hatten eine Platte für 2Personen mit Kichererbsen, Linsen,Grünkohl, Käse, Ei, Hänchen, Lamm, und das landestypische Brot dazu sehr lecker übrigens und nicht so schwer wie unser Brot wir haben 1 Stunde gegessen richtig entspannt und nicht jeder hat mit seinen Teller gekämpft sondern gemeinsam fast schon meditativ ohne Besteck . Ambiente toll... Ich würde immer wieder dort hin gehen . Einfach besonders.....

This restaurant made our night in Hamburg! The food is exceptional, the atmosphere is really cosy and the owner is the sweetest person. One of the best Ethiopian restaurants I’ve been to and you can tell that the food has been made with so much attention and care. The cocktails and home made honey wine deserve a special mention. Ich war an meinem Geburtstag mit meiner Freundin das erste mal hier zum essen. Leider war am frühen Abend bereits alles Reserviert, was für einen gut besuchtes Restaurant spricht. Die am Telefon genannte Uhrzeit, an der es wieder Plätze haben sollte, wurde uns dann freundlich mitgeteilt. Wir hatten die gemischte Platte für 2 Personen mit allerlei Köstlichkeiten bestellt, da ich das erste mal äthiopisches Essen probiert Ich war sehr Positiv überrascht, über die uns servierte bunte Platte, da mir persönlich alles geschmeckt hat. Also hat sich die Erfahrung sehr gelohnt! Ich kann dieses Restaurant nur weiterempfehlen und werde es bei meinem nächsten Hamburg-Aufenthalt definitiv wieder auf meine To-Do Liste setzen. Wirklich, ein bisher für mich einzigartiges Ess-Erlebnis und ein wunderbarer Ausflug in neue Geschmackswelten. Herzlichen Dank

Ich habe telefonisch am Nachmittag vorbestellt und konnte das Essen spät am Abend frisch zubereitet abholen, deshalb kann ich zum Ambiente wenig sagen. Es war hervorragend, selten hat mich ein Restaurant so überzeugt. Wir hatten eine zusammengestellte Auswahl an Gerichten zum Teilen. Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis war unschlagbar. Ich komme auf jeden Fall wieder!

Wer einen super netten Abend mit bestem Essen genießen möchte ist hier genau richtig. Die Inhaber sind unglaublich freundlich und das Essen ist fabelhaft ♡

Wir waren gestern Abend im Ethio und es war ein sehr schönes Erlebnis. Das Ambiente ist toll durch die schöne Deko, überall frische schöne Blumen, sogar das Badezimmer ist hübsch! Der Inhaber selbst bewirtete die Gäste und war super freundlich und herzlich. Das Essen war sehr lecker und die Größe der Portionen war üppig. Obwohl ich nicht so gern scharf mag, fand ich dass die Balance zwischen Geschmack und schärfe so gut ausgeglichen war, dass ich trotzdem auch die Scharfen Speisen auf der gemischten Platte verschlungen habe. Zum Tee gab es einen Keks, der Mokka war ungesüßt und brauchte auch keinen Zucker weil er so aromatisch und mild war (ein Traum!!) und das Dessert war der absolute Kracher. Daher kann ich das Restaurant nur jedem empfehlen, der mal ein richtiges Erlebnis möchte :) Vielen Dank für diesen tollen Abend!

Wir waren zu fünft da und empfanden die Menge als viel zu wenig. Das Essen war lecker und insbesondere der Nachtisch war super. Aber zu fünft haben wir im Menü 120€ für das Essen bezahlt, jeder von uns hat eine kleine Keule Hähnchen bekommen und auch die Getränkepreise sind sehr hoch angesetzt.

Frisch zubereitetes Essen in bunter und netter Atmosphäre. Der Service ist sehr freundlich und schnell. Sehr zu empfehlen.

Wir waren zum ersten Mal in dem Restaurant, um äthiopisches Essen kennenzulernen. Das Restaurant hat ein wirklich sehr tolles gemütliches Ambiente. Wir hatten einen Tisch im wunderschönen Garten - bei dem warmen Wetter einfach perfekt. Das Essen schmeckte uns hervorragend. Wir hatten sowohl eine Vor- als auch eine Hauptspeise bestellt. Das Essen wird liebevoll angerichtet serviert und ist durch die besonderen Gewürze wirklich sehr aromatisch. Der Service ist ebenfalls ausgezeichnet. Das Personal ist durchweg sehr höflich, freundlich und zuvorkommend. Auf Nachfrage wurden uns viele Details zu den äthiopischen Speisen erklärt und auch wie man sie auf Wunsch typisch äthiopisch mit den Händen isst. Klare Weiterempfehlung für jeden der die aromatische äthiopische Küche in Hamburg kennenlernen will. 😊👍

Wir hatten eine "GEBETA", ein Potpourri aus diversen Fleisch- und Gemüsegerichten, auf einer großen Platte serviert für 2 Personen. Gegessen wurde gemäß der äthiopischen Küche ohne Besteck mit dem dem traditionellen Brot "INJERRA". Leider ist das Fleisch etwas zu kurz gekommen. Wir haben in Antwerpen ein äthiopisches Restaurant besucht, wo wir etwas mehr Fleisch auf dem Teller hatten. Dafür war das Personal sehr nett. Bei schönem Wetter kann man im gemütlichen Hinterhof Platz nehmen.

Ein Genuss für Gaumen und Sinne! Der Besuch im Ethio ist wie eine Reise nach Afrika: das Essen ist hervorragend und mit Liebe gekocht, die Atmosphäre ist entspannt und freundlich. Wer hier einmal war, kommt garantiert wieder …

Woow, hier wird Gastfreundschaft noxh groß geschrieben. Wir waren an einem Samstagabend Ende Februar zu sechst Essen. Es ist mal wirklich etwas ganz andreres für den Gaumen. Etwas was sich wirklich lohnt. Wir hatten eine vegetarische und eine Fleischplatte, beides sensationell passend gewürzt. Auf jeden Fall sollte etwas Zeit mitgebracht werden. Nicht weil es hier gemächlich zugeht, sondern um es zu genießen. Wir kamen leider etwas spät und mussten dann wegen der Theatervorstellung schneller wieder weg als geplant. Danke an den sehr netten Inhaber und die Küche. Wir kommen wieder.

Das Ethio ist ein toller Ort, um gesunde und authentische Küche aus Äthiopien zu essen und bei einem guten Glas Wein etwas länger zu verweilen. Das Essen ist gut und nicht überteuert und der Service ist wirklich hervorragend. Definitiv zu empfehlen.
