I've rarely experienced such hospitable owners. The greatest praise for the team/chef was that the five of us devoured two large plates of the wonderful dishes. It tasted amazing, perfectly seasoned, and authentically prepared and served. We felt very comfortable and welcome. Thank you very much 🙏

A true highlight in Hamburg! Friends recommended this restaurant to us. The restaurant not only offers incredibly delicious and authentic Ethiopian food, but also a warm, family-friendly atmosphere. Visiting feels more like an experience than a typical restaurant meal—almost as if you're being invited to a friend's home. The many vegetarian options and surprisingly good cocktails are particularly great—the Gin Basil Smash and Espresso Martini are highly recommended. The owners take great care of their guests and make the evening truly special.

Great food and a great outdoor area!

Last night I had dinner at Ethio, and I have to say: it was really a great experience! As soon as you enter you can feel the warm atmosphere - cozy and inviting. The interior is lovingly designed, with many traditional elements that immediately make you want to try Ethiopian cuisine. The menu offers a nice selection of dishes and I opted for a mixed platter so I could try as much as possible. The various lentils, vegetables and meat dishes were extremely seasoned, had an intense taste and were served on the typical Ethiopian flatbread, injera. I found the spicy lentil sauce particularly tasty – I could have easily eaten more of it! The service was also great: very friendly, attentive and always with a smile. You felt completely at home and were happy to explain something about the individual dishes. If you're looking for authentic Ethiopian cuisine, Ethio is definitely the right place. I'll definitely be back!

Eight of us had dinner and it was simply fantastic! Although we arrived a little early and our tables were logically not ready, we received a warm welcome. Within seconds the tables were prepared for us. The food was excellent and so were the drinks. You really feel welcome here! When the wonderful host heard that our friend was celebrating his 40th birthday, he played “Happy Birthday” in the background, quickly set out glasses and offered us a bottle of really delicious Prosecco. We clapped, sang and the host was happy for us. We have never experienced such hospitality! This experience went far beyond good food, it was balm for the soul. We can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant and will definitely come back.

We went with the recommendation of our friends, although I don't like Ethiopian cuisine very much, the food was more delicious than I expected, the environment and the backyard are very nice.

That was really a highlight 🫶🏻 I like eating meat but we had a vegan platter for 2 and I still enjoyed it extremely well.

I've rarely eaten so well and never seen such nice people. Plus it's cheap and there's a lot. I will come more often and definitely advertise. Just great.

Eine ungezwungene, familiäre Atmosphäre und leckeres Essen, dazu ein schöner Innenhof und angemessene Preise. Wir sind länger geblieben als geplant und kommen gerne wieder. Wir haben uns die vegetarische Platte bestellt, und es nicht bereut! Alles hat uns gut geschmeckt. Es wird mit den Händen gegessen, man bekommt aber auch Besteck.

A truly fantastic restaurant with authentic Ethiopian cuisine! The food was incredibly delicious, and the platter for two is ideal for trying different dishes. Eating with your hands makes the experience even more special—unusual at first, but truly exciting! The staff was friendly and explained the dishes well, although the service with drinks and payment could have been a bit faster. Nevertheless: Highly recommended, I'd love to come back! 😊

The food was very delicious. The food was very fresh and special. I can't comment on its authenticity; I've never been to Ethiopia. The service was very friendly, and the food came quickly. The restrooms have been recently renovated. The acoustics are a bit harsh, but it didn't bother us. We'd be happy to come back and I recommend a visit to Ethio!

We wanted to try something different while on holiday in Hamburg. We have not regretted this idea. A small, authentic restaurant with delicious, freshly prepared food and super hospitable people. I would almost describe the prices as too cheap. We'll be back!!

We were 2 children and 2 adults from Berlin visiting Hamburg and found ourselves very comfortable in the Ethio Restaurant. The food was excellent. Very friendly and service. We received a very warm welcome. When the service staff found out that it was one of our birthdays there was a surprise.

The food is absolutely delicious – authentic, fresh and prepared with a lot of love. The atmosphere is familiar and cozy. The spices and flavors are a real highlight. Be sure to visit!

We were just there and were very, very excited! Totally friendly service, delicious food which is adequately explained to you even if you don't know Ethiopian cuisine. Syphatic owner who honestly recognized a booking error (overcharge) himself and corrected it without being asked. Price-performance ratio is also very good👍

We were just here for the first time and we loved it! Excellent food, lots of it, the two of us were full and didn't manage to eat anything! We were welcomed very courteously, looked after and introduced to the customs (eating with fingers). But cutlery is also available upon request. “It tastes best with your fingers,” they said WE WILL COME BACK and bring friends with us!

Came here for my birthday. The staff were super friendly and gave us complimentary shots to celebrate. The food was excellent. Different recipes and dishes than I have had at other Ethiopian restaurants. We will definitely come back.

The food was very tasty. Huge drawback, however: we ordered a mixed plate for three (for around 60 euros) and unfortunately I can't describe the amount of vegetables and legumes served (really not expensive products) as anything other than outrageous. Maybe the other dishes are bigger, but I can't judge that.

A very warm restaurant with a great atmosphere. The dishes – from starters to dessert – are all lovingly and freshly prepared. For newcomers to Ethiopian cuisine, we definitely recommend the “mixed” plate (for several people). We will definitely come back.

Forever a long wait, both for the menu and for the food. We waited about 90 minutes for food!! This is really too much. The portions were very small and unfortunately not enough. But it tasted really good! When paying, a large spritzer was entered even though a small one was ordered. I pointed it out, I was standing next to it at the checkout. The gentleman excused himself and immediately started typing a big one again. This happened three times. I really didn't feel like I was being taken seriously, something like that is shameful.

A very nice restaurant where you are warmly welcomed and served. The owner is very friendly and in a good mood. You will receive explanations about the food you ordered directly. The food tastes very good and the portions are also reasonable. The garden is beautifully decorated and has a great atmosphere.

Very tasty food and beautiful courtyard. However, everything took quite a long time. It took half an hour from ordering to drinks and then another hour until we had our food (even though we ordered everything together). Dessert also took another half hour. So it's best to bring plenty of time ;-)

The food was very tasty and authentic, appropriate portions. Be sure to make a reservation on the weekend, otherwise you will have to sit outside. Service was also nice, but the reason why it's only 3 stars is the waiting time. Drinks (tea) - 30min Starter (dumpling) - 45min Main course - 65min I think that's crazy, considering the restaurant was only moderately full.

This was my second time at Ethio, and I chose to celebrate my birthday here with a group of 9 people. I could not have been happier with my choice! My guests all loved the food (we had 3 shared plates: meat plates for 4 and 3 people + 1 vegan plate for 3 people) and they could not decide which dish was their favourite because everything was really super delicious!! The service could not have been better as well! We had a table outside in the lovely terrace with garden; the staff was super friendly and the owner even gifted us a bottle of Prosecco when he found out it was my birthday!! (and played a bday song on the speakers) :) This is a lovely family restaurant, with amazing food and welcoming staff. I was able to meet the chef who was super friendly as well. I am sure you will have a great time at Ethio! :D (The price was very reasonable ! And again, the food is incredibly good) P.S. If you want to experience a Coffee ceremony you should let them know as soon as you arrive or even when you make a table reservation :)

I was eating Ethiopian for the first time in my life and I wasn't convinced that I would like it, I was afraid that it would be spicy. We were given very good advice, really very good and extremely courteous. My fears didn't come true, it tasted delicious. Definitely a place to go often!

I come from Bremen and regularly discover new things with a friend from Hamburg. Our visit yesterday was definitely a highlight. The food, the house platter and the coconut dessert were fantastic. In addition, the owner couple created a warm atmosphere, so that I felt like I was visiting dear relatives. Half of German restaurateurs could learn a lot about service here. We will definitely come back, even if the terrace is open.
