Taste is ok not good but I'm happy in Munich two pure vegetarian restaurant including saravana bhawan and ambari My request to ambari and saravana bhavan please improve your food taste.

Ambari is the kind of restaurant that reminds you why food matters. The Mysore Masala Dosa was crisp perfection, the sambar sang with depth, and the chutneys felt alive with freshness. The South Indian thali nearly brought me to tears, absolutely perfect flavors that made me stop talking mid-bite just to feel. You can tell that the people behind Ambari cook with love and intention. Nothing about this place feels manufactured or rushed. It’s pure, heartfelt food, crafted with respect for tradition and served with quiet pride. As a chef who has spent years exploring Indian cuisine, I can say with complete honesty, Ambari is one of the most traditional and moving dining experiences I’ve ever had outside of India. Munich, you’re lucky to have this place.

I have been in the business for over forty years. I have a complete love for Indian cuisine, especially South Indian. I have traveled all over the US and I’m headed to Mumbai on 10/22/2025. I have never experienced such incredible flavors like the ones at Ambari. It wasn’t just the flavors, it was the layers of flavors Rashmi has developed that send your taste buds on an adventure they’ll thank you for. It wasn’t just the globi manchurian that Karin made, although it slaps you with so much flavor you’ll question your life. It wasn’t just the Bangalore filter coffee that had me debating which is better: café con leche in Miami or this. At first, I thought the best dish was the Churumuri. But then IT happened. IT being Bisibelebath. The dish came out and I went in, not expecting anything. But I got everything and so much more. It slapped me with so much flavor I would shank someone if they tried to take it from me. But it wasn’t just the great food. It was the hospitality that Karin and Rashmi showed our group. Don’t walk, run to try this gem. I plan to be back there sooner rather than later.

I cannot stress how wonderful my experience was at Ambari. Having been to many restaurants, including Michelin starred ones, I can say with absolute certainty that dining at Ambari was the most pleasurable experience I've ever had eating out. The food was delicious, wholesome and clearly made with great skill. Often times I find vegetarian food lacking, BUT Ambari has showed me what veggies can be capable of. I left the restaurant as satisfied as if I had eaten a perfectly cooked steak, and then some. Kudos to everybody involved, between the food and service everything was impecable.

During my recent trip to Munich with four of my friends, we had the immense pleasure of dining at Ambari, a hidden gem of an Indian restaurant that my friend Keith Sarasin, a celebrated chef from New England, discovered online. From the moment we walked through the doors, we were enveloped in an atmosphere of warmth and welcome, setting the stage for a truly memorable dining experience. The hospitality at Ambari was nothing short of remarkable. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we felt comfortable and well taken care of, providing attentive service without being intrusive. It was clear that they genuinely care about their guests, which added to the overall charm of the evening. Ambari offers a diverse menu that showcases both traditional South Indian and pan-Indian dishes. Each plate we ordered was a vibrant celebration of flavors. The aromatic spices and fresh ingredients used in every dish were evident, making each bite a delight to savor. I particularly enjoyed the dosas, which were perfectly crisp that transported me straight to India. One of the highlights of our meal was the coffee. I’ve never experienced anything quite like it before—it was rich, flavorful, and expertly brewed. It was the perfect ending to our meal, elevating the entire dining experience to a new level of satisfaction. The ambiance of Ambari is equally impressive. The decor strikes a balance between modern elegance and traditional Indian elements, creating a space that feels both inviting and sophisticated. It's the kind of place where you can enjoy a casual meal with friends or celebrate a special occasion. Reflecting on our visit, I can confidently say that Ambari left a lasting impression on all of us. The combination of exceptional food, outstanding hospitality, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a must-visit in Munich. Myself and a group of my friends were lucky enough to have dinner at Ambari. As soon as we walked through the door, we were met with genuine Indian hospitality. I’m from the United States, and Ambari made me feel at home. The food was absolutely second to none in the area! From the Pani Purri, to the Masala Chaat, to the gajar ka hawala I was blown away! Please never change and thank you so much for this experience! 🙏

Wonderful place for South Indian, especially Karnataka style food like Akki Rotti, Onion Dosa

Very friendly staff, a wide selection of vegetarian dishes, and vegans are also catered for. Converting the Thali to vegan was no problem either. Everything is delicious and fun to try.

Ambari offers an amazing selection of authentic dishes, including some rare specialties you don’t often find elsewhere. The flavors are rich and truly traditional, making it a standout for anyone who loves genuine cuisine. The only downside is that it’s on the pricier side, but the unique and authentic food makes it worth the visit.

Love the simple and authentic ambience! The food is so real and authentic and tasty! I went with Bangalore based friends and it was definitely helpful to place the right order because everything looks so delicious, it’s confusing what to order;) definitely overate and visiting again to try more! Pathetic food no idea of what recipes are .I think the owner has no cooking team he tries his own recipes a big NO to go there for a meal .A total disaster in food and taste .

We were 6 people and had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant with subpar food and poor service . Despite a bill of €153, the QUALITY of FOOD didn't match the price . We ordered medu vada, paneer dosa, chole bhature, idli, manchurian, samosa chaat, and drinks The food lacked freshness and, the chutneys and curries were watery, and some items even had an unpleasant smell. The plates were unclean, and the manager's response to our request for tissues was rude . The service overall was just as bad as the food. Honestly, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences we’ve had. TASTELESS food and very poor service. I would not recommend this place at all — better options are available .

When you walk in, the air is filled with a pleasant aroma of spices. The paneer balls with tomato sauce we had were also delicious. The service was really nice.

We had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. We ordered Manchurian, Paneer Dosa, Masala Dosa, Chole Bhature, and Medu Vada and total bill of 153. The cost was not the issue, but the quality of food was extremely poor. Most of the items were undercooked and had an unpleasant smell. The chutney was completely watery, lacking any taste or consistency. The service was unprofessional and the manager was very rude when we raised our concerns. The food was so bad that we had to leave it all on the table without eating. You can see this clearly in the photos we’ve attached. Overall, it was one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had, and we would strongly advise others to avoid this place.

Guys, I am from south India and this restaurant claim as South Indian believe me it’s not mainly with food. If you looking for idly dosa or any option kind of breakfast just go to other restaurant like sarvana Bhavan, not this restaurant..we go to restaurants for good food, that’s what is exactly missing in this restaurant. We made a bill of 160 euro and left everything on table…that owner cannot afford to give extra tissue when customer asks such a an arrogance and waste behaviour…believe me don’t spoil your mood here,,enjoy somewhere good with better prices ,,,it’s too expensive here,,see the photos

We saw review 4.8 and with 274 people, was excited to taste the South Indian food. That turned out to be not good decision. We are 6 people ordered food worth of 153 euro. Would have tasted one and ordered out of all only Manchuria was good rest all on table left un eaten. Such a disappointment of all restaurants I tried this is the most disappointing one and when asked for a tissue answer was already on table which was fully used, and not sure how to use same one single tissue. Manager/Owner was not ready to take genuine review from us, I felt it was rude and he was not ready to listen which is shocking . Over all experience: after spending almost 153 euro we are heading to have dinner again. Such a dissatisfaction and disappointment. Finally I have a feeling food served should have taste. I am South Indian and this is the first place I left my food and drink barely eaten.

The food was super delicious 😃 Authentic South Indian taste just like home! The filter coffee was my absolute favorite — perfect balance of decoction and sugar. Pongal was rich with ghee and so comforting, and the vada was nice, crispy, and crunchy. On top of that, the hospitality was really nice and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Definitely worth a visit!

Came here after the restaurant reopened in the new location and the experience was beyond expectation! The pleasant ambience and even more delicious options on the menu. From Starters like Masalpuri and Dosa menu to the drinks and dessert, all so flavorful and wholesome, felt like I was transported to Bangalore. Best part is that it’s so healthy that the stomach feels light & happy something which I cannot speak for most Indian restaurant. Plus we always have the pleasure to be greeted by Rashmi & Kiran who are such gracious hosts.

Clean and authentic Kannada food ! Nothing is over the top spiced or greasy- felt like my grandmothers food , we loved everything that we tried and hope to go back for more.

Food taste is pathetic. Neither north nor South Indian food tastes good. Overpriced by almost 200%. Quantity is also below average. Should be avoided.

If you’re truly looking for authentic Indian food, I would strongly recommend avoiding this place. We spent €150 and didn’t get even the slightest taste or satisfaction of real Indian cuisine. They clearly don’t understand Indian food and are just experimenting with random fusions. Honestly, a big no.

We went for lunch menu in the afternoon and had North Indian thali. Food is like homemade indian food. Just made right. Small and cozy atmosphere. And very friendly staff.

We were here for lunch with family during summer. The ambiance was super nice. The service was pleasant. The food (North Indian thali) had an authentic Indian taste. Shout out to the salt lassi, dhal makaani, filter coffee and the masala chai. Do not forget to ask for less spices in the food if you have special requirements/ if you are with children.

Too good vegetarian food i loved it

Food was really average, I’ve had better street side food. We went as a group and were looking for a decent experience but returned disheartened. We ordered, Pongal + Vada, Bisi Bele Bath, bonda, Pakora, Idly and Poori. Except poori everything was horrible. Onion pakora was undercooked and worst of all we had to call the waiter 10 times. I would recommend them to pay some attention to the chef. Apart from that, the ambiance was pleasant and chai was good.

Very tasty and authentic. The menus are particularly recommended as you can try several different dishes that you don't know from typical Indian restaurants. There is a star deduction for the ambience. Unfortunately it wasn't very clean and a few room dividers would make the room more comfortable.

Wonderful experience. The space, the music, the service were top notch, only bested by the superbly balance and aromatic dishes. Topped the meal off with a solid Masala Chai.

We discovered Ambari by chance today and were thrilled. Extremely delicious and authentic food, friendly service, and we immediately felt at home. We definitely want to come back!

We really enjoyed the Karnataka style South Indian food and the welcoming vibe of this restaurant. The owners are so friendly, kind and passionate about what they do. This is reflected in every small detail of the restaurant from the decor to the menu and them personally greeting all the guests. Our favourite thing on the menu was the authentic, spicy and delicious Masala Puri.

The service, Ambience is great. But all the good part ended for us there. We are south Indian and we couldn't enjoy the food from here may be because we are not a great fan of Bangalore style food. Its misleading when you say its south indian food. Its more of Bangalore vegetarian food. The sambar, the coffee the taste is authentic compared to Bangalore food but not Tamilnadu or Kerala style, just a heads up. What surprised us was the Chole bhattoora which we usually have from Bangalore this was too oily and too crispy like papad. This supposed to be chewy and soft, unfortunately this was not the experience we expected. The chole was good. Bhattoora was not good. The Dosa is also Bangalore style too crispy that its actually a papad but this is Karnataka style we cant blame this. We like Kerala or Tamilnadu or Andhra style dosas which are crispy on the outside but soft inside. The service was great. The Ambience was also good. We like everything except for the food.

Un-Hygenic, Under-staffed, Under-cooked, 1. You will get used tumblers with lip marks,residual matter from last drink. 2. You will be rudely asked & then argued after one of them made you sit at the table, EVEN with a RESERVATION. 3. Mediocrely(moderate & low quality) made food, if you complain of undercooked food, You will get cooking lessons and RUDE JUSTIFICATION from the Owner itself. One of the WORST RESTAURANT experience in MUNICH Wish I had the option to give Not even ONE star. NOTE: Exponentially friendly to Foreigners but Indians specially North Indians doesnt get the better end of the stick(Biased Service) as Foreigners get served first even if Indians had arrived before them.

Really authentic south indian food that you will get nowhere else in Munich!

Ambari is a wonderful restaurant serving authentic vegetarian and vegan dishes from Karnataka (state in India). The ambience is modern with plenty of natural lighting and comfortable seating. On arrival, we were immediately shown our tables with a big smile. The brunch menu on Saturday & Sundays is limited, but diverse. We called for a Pongal, Poori for mains and shared a Gajar Halwa. We topped our meal with filter coffee (must try!). All the dishes has good portion sizes, were tasty and served warm. The spice levels were low/moderate yet flavorful. For the entire meal, we payed a little more than €40. Great location, wonderful menu. Must try!

Out of the food that we ordered, we particularly liked masal puri, samosa chat, akki rotti, mango lassi and pani puri. The paneer dish that we ordered was good. The medu vada was a bit oily and the bhatura tasted sour. Overall the food was good.

I had high hopes, but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. I had to wait a long time, and when the food finally arrived, the sambar lacked flavor and didn’t meet my expectations. The dosa was just okay, nothing special. Overall, it was a one-time visit for me — not worth coming back.

Had a pleasant experience at this restaurant. The Dosa was particularly good, crisp and flavorful, and the Gobi was also well-prepared. The only minor downside was the service speed, which could have been a bit quicker. Paying by card was no problem, which was convenient.

Hands down the best Indian restaurant in Munich. They offer authentic and delicious south and north Indian specialties. Their ambience is a true reflection of the culture of the southern Indian state of Karnataka. With an extensive drinks menu and specialty wines, you can experience Indian fine dining right in the heart of Munich like never before. Definitely a must try restaurant!!

Ambari has truly become my go-to spot whenever I crave comforting, home-style food. By far the best South Indian restaurant I’ve found in Europe — and it’s fully vegetarian, which is a rare find! We ordered idli sambar, dosa, and holige (obattu) for dessert. The sambar had a delicious Mangalore/Udupi-style flavor that I absolutely loved. Each dish was better than the last. The restaurant also offers a spacious setting with beautiful ambiance. Wonderful service and would highly recommend! :)

A fantastic experience with warm hospitality and delightful Bangalore-style cuisine. We enjoyed the dosa, (savoury) pongal, Gobi Manchurian as well as the mango lassi. Kiran, Rashmi and team are keen to ensure all their guests leave with happy tummies and a great experience. We’ll be back when next in Munich!

It's a shame, the good Afghan restaurant Rumi has been a thing of the past since the beginning of March 2025. So Ambari has been around here since that time at the earliest. Please note that most reviews refer to a previously existing restaurant of this name in Munich and not exactly this one. In any case, they weren't very creative in the design of the restaurant, because if it didn't have the new name on it, it would look 1:1 as Rumi. The location is suboptimal and this entry is unfortunately also disappointing.

Very tasty, great atmosphere and nice service! We were already fans in Ramersdorf and the new restaurant is bigger but with the same cosiness! We can highly recommend it!

Friendly, tasty, good: The recently moved Ambari (new: Dianastraße) impresses with a very friendly team and a compact but really good menu with vegetarian dishes. There are different options to choose from each day of the week and you can also find dishes in the long-running favorites that not every Indian restaurant in the city offers. Tip: Thali - so you can try three dishes at once ;) And Pongal = super delicious!

I've been going regularly to Ambari for the past 1.5 years, and they do an amazing job of recreating the Darshini style food from Bangalore in Munich. The Mysore Masala Dosa, Vadas, and the filter coffee are especially good, and I'm glad to have found a place in Munich that does a great job with these items. One of the best South Indian delicacies i have had in Munich. They also have variety of dishes, which are a must try. Must try : Dose, masale puri, North Indian thali.

If you want to eat authentic South Indian food especially Bangalore style food ,this is the place I would highly recommend. We have been visiting this place for around 3 years, and now recently they have shifted to a new location ,which has an amazing ambiance along with yummy food. You will eat one of the softest idlis here, masala puri tasted awesome .They had organized Ugadi(Karnataka new year) feast last year, which was so good! We will definitely keep visiting this place to try new dishes. Also ,the owner of this place is welcoming and friendly! Highly recommend!

Real authentic Indian food, you have to visit this little precious hidden in Ramersdorf. Definitely a place to go and try the delicious varieties.

Not worthy as they projected. It’s a tiny family run place not willing to hire more people to handle crowd or reservations. The food is okay not great. Service is bad because only one guy runs in and out the kitchen, delivers food, takes orders, cleans table etc… if you need peace of mind and wanna feel warm and welcomed then this is not the place for you. May be when they scale a bit and have more people to serve it might be better.
