Alter Moselbahnhof in Bernkastel-Kues

Visited the Alter Moselbahnhof this week. We had tarte flambée with Gorgonzola and Palatinate Saumagen (sausage stomach) with Winzergräwes (wine-making gravy). It was absolutely delicious, we'd go back anytime. Friendly service. A definite 5 stars

We ate there at 5 p.m. on April 29, 2025. My husband had a burger and I had tarte flambée, we didn't drink any alcohol. The FOOD initially makes a good impression. When we arrived at the hotel in the evening we both felt sick, we vomited several times during the night and had diarrhea. Over the course of the night I developed a headache, body aches and chills. Oh, we still feel pretty bad the next day. It's a shame 😢 the assumption that it was the food is obvious. We are writing to you so that you can check your hygiene concept.

Nice atmosphere, that's about it. The service is underground. I have never seen more unfriendly service. The ladies should think about changing jobs! The food tasted good, but was way too expensive. I've had much better burgers for less money.

Free use of the toilet, but what slow service. Staff walk by and wait until you have viewed the entire menu. If you only buy a coffee, you can only pay in cash after another long wait.

The restaurant was very busy, so it had to be good. In any case, we ate very well. The waiter was very friendly and the prices ☆☆☆☆☆

Ate here for the 2nd time and it was excellent again! Nice on the terrace with a lovely sun. First delicious potato garlic soup and then a mash from grandma with a liver pot, sausages and a smoked piece of meat. Then a cappuccino with a piece of chocolate cake. My wife had a Flamküche of the day and it was also delicious. Cosy, friendly and cheerful staff! Great experience again for a reasonable price despite the beautiful location! Until next time.

Lovely terrace, delicious food and super friendly man serving

A very nice location. Unfortunately, our expectations of the food were rather disappointed. The chicken breast was as dead as Elvis.

Wir waren am 1. März dort, der erste Tag nach der Winterpause. Trotzdem hat alles hervorragend funktioniert, der Service war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam und das Essen sehr gut. Sehr gute Auswahl an Gerichten, auch aus der heimischen Küche (Oma Elisabeth), kleine, aber feine Auswahl an offenen Weinen. Es hat uns so gut gefallen, dass wir gleich am nächsten Tag noch einmal hingegangen sind. Auch die Atmosphäre und der Blick auf die Mosel sind klasse Sehr empfehlenswert!

Great value for money, very good and friendly service

There was really nothing to complain about in terms of quality, service or prices. Fresh, delicious cakes and the exceptionally good apple strudel was definitely absolutely fresh and not purchased. Where is this still available today? Great service. Good advice - and the prices are good too. A point deducted because the ventilation could be improved. By chance, 3 or 4 currywursts were consumed in the restaurant at the same time. The air smelling of currywurst was massive in the room. Not so pleasant with cake.

Tip top shop. Went there especially from Trier. Come back in summer

Unfortunately, there is no consistently warm food, even though it is advertised that way outside. Were there on a Friday afternoon. Thank you for the explanation. But we were explicitly informed by an employee that the kitchen was on “break” and that there were only cold dishes and warm dishes only after 5:00 p.m.

We were in Bernkastel in the 28th week of 2022. The restaurant “Alter Moselbahnhof” is very clean right down to the toilets. Staff and restaurant manager friendly and accommodating, logistically well managed and the menu has something for everyone. Prices are reasonable (low) for good portions that are also presented very nicely to the eye. Quality and taste good to very good. If the restaurant SOOO continues to operate, the future should be completely secured. Thank you so much that something like this still exists. Everything just fits together. If we go on holiday in Bernkastel for the fifth time, we will definitely visit the Old Moselle Station again. We were also in Bernkastel in 2023 and 2024 and dined again at the Old Moselbahnhof. Nothing has changed from my initial rating...it remains 5 stars.

We've been there several times. The food is good, the portions are normal in size and we really like the location right on the Moselle.

Horrible service!! Arrived just after 2pm. Ordering drinks took forever. There is no indication that the card is only valid until 2:30 p.m. Drinks were brought at 2:28 p.m. and when we wanted to order food we were abruptly told: it was too late, the cooks were on break now. Went there as a family with 3 children. Impossible, had to leave without being able to eat. Unfriendly service. Don't want to order food?? Were very disappointed. Explain this to your children who were hungry!!

We had a very good dinner with 6 people. The service staff was very friendly, fast, reliable. The meals were very rich and very tasty: Spundekäse with bread and fresh onions, 2x tarte flambée, 2x burgers, the veggiburger in particular was very delicious, spaghetti with plenty of king prawns, salad as a side dish and a tomato soup and a schnitzel. You sit very comfortably with a view of the Moselle and the excursion boats. We'd love to come back.

The best steak I've had in a long time. Super seasoned and perfectly fried. (Medium rare) Kudos for that. The staff is extremely friendly and the dog is allowed too.

The Old Moselle Railway Station is highly recommended! The restaurant is located directly on the water (approx. 25m away) and invites you to enjoy delicious wine and food. The food is freshly prepared and extremely tasty! A very special compliment goes to Claudia and (big) Ben. Two funny, quick and courteous service staff! Thank you very much and see you next time...

The old Moselle train station is worth a trip. The food was delicious 😋, the service had style and was extremely polite, as well as an understanding of his job. The young man with a twirly beard and red hair was the perfect service for us. The advice for a glass of sweet wine, excellent. Will be eating there again on Sunday with much anticipation.

The "old Moselle station" is always a good choice - whether for savory or sweet.

We've been here many times before, but this time it was an absolute failure. The starter was out and another one was simply put there when it was served. When I later asked whether the main course could even be served in its entirety (it would have included a product from the starter), they were also told that it wasn't there and that they simply wanted to replace it with something else. We then reordered a meal. Many tables that were occupied after us received their eaters far before us. After an eternity the 4 main courses came. 2 meals were a laughing stock. There probably wasn't enough meat left that they made 2 pieces out of one piece and then fried them to death and served them carelessly on the plate. We were more than disappointed. Since 2 out of 4 meals were okay, I get 2 stars.

Been there twice, had a good regional meal twice. Top tarte flambée and Moselle/Palatinate cuisine. Nice attentive team. With a view of the Moselle and the jetty. The Federweißer was also delicious.

Nice restaurant with a terrace (almost) directly on the banks of the Moselle. You sit right next to the parking lot, but that didn't bother us. Not even the main street that runs behind it. The food is delicious and plentiful. Coffee and cake are also served. The prices are reasonable for the place.

Located directly on the Moselle promenade, we spontaneously got a spot here. The burgers were very tasty, the fries were too bland for us and could have used some salt or spice.

The tarte flambée with bacon was very tasty and large, but you could look for the bacon. In other restaurants it is better served. Staff very friendly and helpful.

The food at the Altes Moselbahnhof was very good! Both the vegetarian burger with goat cheese, cranberries and walnuts (what a combo!) and the burger with Angus and bacon were very tasty. The price of over €18 per burger is made up for by the fries and the coleslaw with the burger. However, it is incomprehensible that the price of the blob does not include mayonnaise or ketchup. The staff was okay friendly, the tables were clean, the view of the Moselle was also quite nice, although there was a parking space in between and the toilets were clean. Recommended especially because of the quality of the food if the euro is not too tight.

About 10 minutes after ordering it said: A cod fillet with fried potatoes as well as Fried red and liver sausage with Potato/sauerkraut mash on the table!!! Sorry, we wanted to enjoy and not fed off become. I'm not a chef, but that's just fine with convenience products. Sorry, It really wasn't bad, but it wasn't again. The service was excellent!!!

Unfortunately, our waitress was completely overwhelmed and stressed, which was passed on to us as guests. Another waitress seemed disinterested and rather dismissive. The covered terrace with a view of the Moselle is in itself a bonus that could be used lavishly. But you should also clean and lubricate the fans on the ceiling so that they don't squeak all the time. The winemaker's platter for two people is quite good, but our brown bread was dry and could hardly be cut. Overall, a restaurant with a lot of potential, but which remained unused during our visit.

The AMB burger was really delicious. At 18 euros with very good fries and coleslaw really OK for this quality. Beautiful ambience on the Moselle and friendly service make this “old Moselle train station” really recommendable.

Very wide range of food and drinks, professional staff in service and obviously also in the kitchen! In places with a lot of tourism, people are initially skeptical, but everything is right here. Whether you want to have a snack, a tarte flambée or a solid steak - everything makes a convincing impression and tastes really good. We'd love to come back!

Great place to take a break from the town, or as a stopover during a motorcycle tour.

The restaurant lives up to its name - it's like a train station. Guests go in and out, it is hardly possible to sit comfortably and enjoy themselves, also because there are no cushions for the wooden chairs. Some of the staff take forever to register whether a guest wants to place an order or walk through the restaurant with a mournful expression. Only the food makes everything better, although it's a bit too expensive for our taste.

During our vacation we ate here so we didn't have to go to a crowded restaurant in the old town. The location is very central and it is a very large restaurant. The location is actually very nice right on the water - actually, because the parking lot between the restaurant and the Moselle bothered me, but the restaurant can't do anything about that because it's a public parking lot. The service was very nice. And the service was super quick and we didn't have to wait long for drinks or food. Food was delicious. Large portions and beautifully presented.

Waiting for hours for food without any attention from staff. When asked, the young man said you can hear it from the kitchen, it's too busy. Mutual grumbling and also very varying sizes of the dishes/schnitzels. Couldn't cancel after 45 minutes. Food quality is otherwise good, hence 2 stars instead of 1.

Very nice location. Were there in summer and also in autumn. The waitresses are very attentive and polite, the price/performance ratio is absolutely reasonable and the food tastes good too! :-)

In order to shorten the waiting time for the next ship, we stop here more often. The wines are good, the cakes too. The staff is a bit overwhelmed at times. It's also up to the guests.

A restaurant directly on the Moselle. The staff there is relaxed and the food can be highly recommended. But you should reserve a table. When it was still Bernkastel train station, you would have sat on the platform. Today you have a wonderful view of the Moselle, as far as no party boat docks with terrible music. But we only experienced that once.

The atmosphere was very inviting, the staff was super friendly and accommodating. This time we only had something to drink, which was very good. Next time we will also try the food as it looked very good at the neighboring tables and everyone seemed happy.

Totally recommended. Admittedly, the price is already at the top end, but the plus points make you forget that. Beautiful nearby view of the Moselle, tasty food that we all enjoyed and the staff, despite the obvious strain due to the limited manpower, are very quick and extremely attentive. When the evening sun briefly shone in my face, a service worker immediately noticed this and extended the awning. I had a completely different experience not far away.

Delicious food and great views! The grilled smoked pork with beans and fried potatoes was particularly excellent. The homemade lemonade was also very good. The view of the Moselle rounds off the experience perfectly.
