Alte Zunft in Bad Säckingen

Food good – service questionable. My visitors from the USA wanted a hearty lunch, and our hotel recommended Zunft. Upon arrival, they wanted to seat us and our dog upstairs. We were about to leave, but suddenly there were free tables in a side room. Soon the owner was on a first-name basis with us, the established guests! His staff, whose language skills were limited, served us rudely, more like annoyed. Card payment didn't work, and the internet was always terrible there – apparently the owner's problem, not mine, or some other reason the owner had... I was told to go get cash outside. As I was leaving, the owner complained that I should return the dog's water bowl – but I had quickly fetched it, along with a water bottle, from my hotel between meals, as I didn't dare burden the unwilling staff with this extra work. Conclusion: definitely not worth it!

Beer is good but very bad experience about the possibility to pay by card under 10 Eur. Got scolded again and again. I was actually ready to go get cash / or was about to advise them to indicate it at the entrance next time but got one frustration ramble after another by the waiter. After all he still took my payment card, it seems money matters most for them. He said next time I should ask about card payment before ordering. I just paid this time and let him in his ramble but there will not be a next time.

We had reserved online but received no response. Later, we were told that the person was on vacation. We wanted a nice, large table, which was a violation of the terms and conditions, as the table had been reserved by phone. We insisted because we were sure we wouldn't be there. The order came quickly when we finally got around to ordering. The chef is probably the best employee and knows a thing or two about cooking. Even during the meal, people started arriving early, and the condition was that we should hurry. Sorry, are you okay? We definitely won't be coming back to a restaurant like that.

The food is terrible, the outside isn't clean, there are flies, and the service isn't friendly. The cream sauce is a disaster—watery with three sliced, half-raw mushrooms... so disgusting. Nevertheless, some experiences have led to a decrease in our number of visits.

A visit to the Alte Zunft is like a short journey back in time – the ambiance is quaint, charming, and very harmonious. You feel at home from the very first moment. The decor perfectly matches the historic flair of the building and creates a cozy, inviting atmosphere. The restaurant offers a lovely selection of German dishes, which is pleasingly diverse. Even as a vegetarian, I easily found something delicious – the selection is well-thought-out and flavorful. The portions are moderate without being overwhelming – leaving room for dessert, which I greatly appreciated. Paying by card is no problem. The only downside to our evening was the service, which seemed a bit inattentive. Perhaps it just wasn't the best day – we hope things will run more smoothly next time. Nevertheless, the positive impression clearly outweighs the negative: I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and am already looking forward to my next visit!

The food itself was truly delicious, but unfortunately a bit underwhelming compared to other restaurants, and the wait time was extremely long even though there weren't many customers. However, this could also be due to the freshness of the food. For this reason, the wait time doesn't count toward the overall rating. Furthermore, the upstairs area was closed to guests for no apparent reason (even though the temperatures there were much more pleasant), and I received no response to my inquiry.

The rösti is highly recommended; it's delicious. The cream sauce wasn't that great! The ready-made sauce was too thick. The service could have been more enthusiastic.

What a nice restaurant! Food was great, excellent presentation and quality ingredients focused on seasonal availability. As we went in early summer we enjoyed the terrace which gets you immersed in the old town architecture. Service was kind and easy, price was fair and they have a large selection of drinks. Worth visiting again!

We enjoyed a lovely light lunch in their shaded outdoor dining area. We had their "Toast Hawaii," and a mixed salad. Both were excellent, clearly made with quality ingredients (the Toast came with a large salad of its own), and the portion sizes were so generous, we had to ask them go box up our leftovers because they were too good to leave behind. Altogether, with a large Coke and a bottle of mineral water, the bill came to €32. Excellent service from friendly staff, in a very pretty part of a lovely town.

A pleasant "village pub" with excellent service and a varied menu. Not a gourmet restaurant, but with delicious dishes (including 12 vegetarian options). It's quite busy, so reservations are recommended.

We ate early, about 19:00. On a Wednesday on a cold, cloudy day in May it was quiet. The local beer (Pils and the Hefeweißen) were really good. Robert was very helpful... my German is very weak... and decades old. The asparagus dishes that we had were delicious. Thank you!!

We came all the way from England for a Rosti. This was our third visit and it did not disappoint. The food and drinks were excellent, atmosphere was great and the service was beyond reproach. We are looking forward to visiting again next year. 5 stars. Thanks Robert, your English is excellent.

The curry looked like pumpkin soup with turkey meat and it tasted bitter. The roast pork was rather tough. We had to wait 45 minutes for the food. People who came after us had to get their food beforehand and it was unorganized.

I got food poisoning from the schnitzel. That same night I got a fever, kept vomiting and could hardly sleep. This continued the whole next day. Before that dinner I was completely fine and had no signs of anything like this coming. As a visitor to the area, my weekend plans were ruined and I had to go home early. It's amazing how something as simple as a schnitzel can have such consequences.

Saturday evening at 8.45 p.m., we had reserved a table, were able to order in peace and quiet, the service was very friendly and courteous. The food was very good and the price-performance ratio was more than right. It was a bit noisy, but still a very pleasant evening and our foreign visitor was thrilled with everything. Gladly again...the cordon bleu was excellent!

Not worth the trip!!!! Unfortunately, we (a team of 10) had a very negative experience with the location. In addition to the expandable service, the staff can also receive further training in mental arithmetic. We were pretty much ripped off every time we ordered. No change was given and someone charged us for drinks we didn't drink. I would sincerely hope that no one has to find themselves in this unpleasant situation in the future and that the bar operator works on these difficulties.

Unfortunately experienced a few no-gos at lunch: The vegetarian Rösti used mushrooms that are not mentioned on the menu. (Mushrooms are not vegetables, but belong to their own biological genus.) That should be there - even if mushroom eaters might be happy about it. In addition to the mushrooms, the only "vegetables" that were fresh were the tomatoes - the carrots, broccoli and cauliflower probably came from a frozen mixture like the ones you find in a cheap supermarket. When this observation was reported to the waitress, the matter was not disputed, but rather it was pointed out that there were also fresh vegetables. For a dish that costs €16, the price-performance ratio is simply not right at all. (Side observation: The rösti was burnt on the edge because the cheese didn't cover the entire rösti and it was spread too thinly in the pan. Another measure to save material and thus money - a shame!) Conclusion: We won't be coming back...

Very nice location in the old town right on the axis of the famous wooden bridge. The Flammekuche, the simplest, was appetizing and crispy. I asked for coffee with 1 glass of water. The glass of water was drowned... they wanted to serve me mineral water, I explained that just 1 glass of tap water, change of server, I asked for the glass of water twice, nothing, The Flammekuche was also slow in coming (perhaps in the hope that I would finish my coffee to order 1 other drink) - halfway through I asked again, out loud and with explicit gestures that I would like 1 glass of water to accompany my coffee, the server executes: 1 rikiki glass. When paying, cash, I round up. Waiter insists that he cannot return the cents, I repeat very loudly that it is ok to round up... in short SERVER probably DEAF or in bad faith or very clever. - I hate it when I feel like someone is trying to trick me. Fortunately the regular customers in the area are very friendly...

Rösti and schnitzel good German cuisine

Highly recommended restaurant. Very attentive and friendly staff. A wide range of dishes, everyone should find what they are looking for on this menu. Today I decided on the Swiss Rösti and was really very satisfied. It tasted great and the quantity was just right. The Rösti are served in iron pans, so every last bite is still hot. Today we were in the old guild with two small children. The starters were delicious. However, we felt totally uncomfortable. Small children are not welcome here. As soon as our youngest dropped something, the boss and one of the waiters complained. The main courses tasted so-so and our son's chicken nuggets were hot on the outside and raw and bloody on the inside, so they went back to the kitchen. The fries were then fried again and were as hard as wood. There wasn't even an apology for the little one. Our conclusion: If you don't value children, you won't have any guests tomorrow!

Wir haben die Alte Zunft in Bad Säckingen am 02.01.2024 mit zwei kleinen Kindern besucht. 50 Minuten nach Bestellung haben wir beim Kellner nachgefragt, wann unser Essen komme. Der Kellner hat uns dann mitgeteilt, er habe unsere Bestellung vergessen (!) und wir müssten nochmals 40 Minuten warten. Angeboten wurde uns für die insgesamt 90 Minuten Wartezeit gar nichts. Sehr schwache Leistung des Kellners. Solange das Personal nicht ersetzt wird, rate ich dringend vom Besuch der alten Zunft ab.

While waiting with two small kids that were hungry. We got some bread and that was it. No discount on the food or drinks. When the food came, my Rösti was incredible salty. While waiting, we also saw that there was dead spiders hanging from the ceilings, three to be exact which was a bit nasty to see while eating. If I could rate no stars, I would do that but the site doesn’t allow me so therefore one star.

These guys have no interest in welcoming anyone except locals. It seemed because I didn't speak perfect German they didn't even want to welcome me in. I had to explain that a German colleague had made a reservation. I was reluctantly brought to a table. The menu at first glance seems expansive but it's actually the same thing in a variety of different ways: Rostis, Schnitzels of various meats and a few other options I had a pretty good flammkuche to start but my main which was marked as "Tipp!" in the menu - "Kalbsschnitzel (veal schinitzel)" with a rosti was boring and dry. For the quality of the food, I would rate this as a bit expensive - the veal schnitzels started at €21.50 and really weren't worth it. We didn't receive any attention while eating which I didn't mind, but we had to go back down to the bar to pay. Again, they had no interest in dealing with me and it seemed like even the act of me paying pained them, the wouldn't even look me in the face. I don't think I have ever felt so unwelcome in a restaurant. Overall if you are into schnitzel and rostis this place is not bad, however there are much better restaurants within 5 minutes of this place. Would not recommend to non-locals

El millor rösti al nord del Rin

Wir hielten hier für ein Essen zum Mittag, von der Fahrt von Spanien nach Deutschland. Herrlichstes Wetter, so dass wir draußen sitzen konnten. Bedienung war sehr freundlich 👍🏽. Essen sehr gut 🤤. Die Toilette ist im oberen Stockwerk und nur über eine Holztreppe zu erreichen, was für Rollstuhlfahrer unmöglich ist.
