Alte Wagnerei in Mühlheim am Main

Update from 9/19/25! They're now looking for a new operator due to a lack of guests. I wonder why that is? 🤫 See the message in the online OP. We've enjoyed eating at the Wagnerei for years. The food is still incredibly delicious. But, since Georg Koppenhöfer sold it, the service has, with all due respect, become terrible. The service staff has changed, and the kitchen staff only partly, which is why it's still delicious. I still expect good service and don't want to wait forever for a menu, or for my glass to remain empty because no one bothers to look and ask, only to then demand a tip. For what?? I can set up and clear plates and glasses, too. The previous owner came from the restaurant industry, and that was evident in the staffing and the friendliness of the employees. I think I'm not the only one who only comes for the delicious food... If there's a change in the kitchen, I fear fewer people will come... Everyone gets a chance with me when there's a change of ownership, but after three attempts, always delicious food, but crappy service, I've had enough. A restaurant stands or falls with its kitchen and its service staff!!! The new owner should think about that. With that in mind, you people, make your own experiences. Bad reviews always stick in people's minds longer than good ones.

The restaurant is closing... and "he and his colleagues can't really explain the lack of demand." The customers are happy to explain... Pasta with hash browns went from 9.90 including a side salad and Parmesan to 14.50 without salad or Parmesan. You can order it with the side. It's then just €20. A 100% price increase. The service is TERRIBLE. The young ladies don't pay any attention to the customers and basically just stand behind the counter chatting. So: No wonder you're closing. It's a shame about the previous owner... it was always a 10/10!

The Alte Wagnerei will (probably) remain closed forever. Today's OP report states that declining guest numbers are the reason. Unfortunately, they forgot to mention the reason for the declining numbers. Since the transition from G. Koppenhöfer to the new operator/tenant, the service has ceased to exist. I was a regular customer and guest during Gerd Koppenhöfer's time and was always completely satisfied. After the change, I'm sorry, but it was completely gone. Orders were incorrect or only partially delivered, drinks were taken at the beginning of the visit and either not delivered at all, or after repeated requests, something came when the food had already arrived a long time ago. The waiters walked past the table and didn't notice when drinks were empty. You couldn't even reorder. The same thing happened when the keg was full and you wanted to pay... "The colleague will do it..." More than once I waited almost 30 minutes and reacted angrily before someone finally bothered to give me the bill. If I, as a customer, am willing to spend a lot of money these days, then a little more attention is the least I can hope for. That hasn't worked (with a few exceptions). Given the many low reviews, they could have noticed this long ago and taken countermeasures, but apparently they believed such a great restaurant would be a surefire success and simply make money. Far from it. I can only hope that a tenant is found who knows his business and reopens the Alte Wagnerei.

A lovely, rustic restaurant with an outdoor area in the old town center of Mühlheim. Good German cuisine with a wide selection, including Hessian specialties. The service staff could be a bit more attentive, but restaurants these days are lucky if they have any staff at all. You sometimes have to be patient with the service and make yourself known if you're not noticed. The prices are fair and reasonable. There are also children's menus for the little ones. The restaurant is also a good stop on a bike tour. Parking is okay; you can almost always find a spot.

We returned after four months because we enjoyed it so much last time. Unfortunately, this time the food (minced steak) was cold inside, as if it had just come out of the refrigerator. I didn't like it that much, and I don't really believe the waitress's statement that she'd ordered the wrong thing. However, the food was immediately taken back and a new one was served. We will be back, though. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is lovely.

For years, the Wagnerei was a popular meeting place for our family from the surrounding area. With one exception (Mühlheim May Festival 2024), the food was always something special. Now we went there again (unaware that May Festival 2025 was already taking place). Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the food! The potatoes served with the fish were definitely from a jar or a ready-made product from a bag. Soft, white, and mushy. I sent them back. Conclusion: We'll find another meeting place for now. It's a shame, because the beautiful beer garden is truly inviting.

We've been going to the Alte Wagnerei for years because the food is really well prepared and delicious. The weekly menu also changes and always offers very good seasonal dishes. The performance in the kitchen, even when the restaurant/beer garden is full, is amazing. I've always found it very impressive. 5 stars with distinction!!! UNFORTUNATELY, the same doesn't apply to the service staff. No greeting. We wait until we're assigned a table, no response. After 20 minutes, after asking for a menu, we receive one. Another 20 minutes later, no response. Only after another request is an order taken. The service staff obviously think they have to hide from customers in the bar or behind the counter, busy with their phones. People like that have no place in service jobs. For that only 1 star, or better yet, none at all. Yes, the word service explains what it means. If you don't feel like it, just stay at home and become an influencer or try out the kitchen, they rock it!! The mushroom risotto and beetroot spaetzle arrived piping hot on the table 15 minutes after ordering and, as expected, were absolutely delicious! That's the reason I'll be back, certainly not the service. If it were up to me, I would have simply left after half an hour of service ignorance!

The beer garden is in a nice, quiet location. The food is excellent and the prices are moderate. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We never had to wait long for drinks or food.

Easter Monday. Coming from the parking lot, there is an old, fallen menu hanging on the entrance door to the garden. The flowers, intended as nice table decorations, had withered and the Pinot Gris was sold out. Who actually runs a place like this and why can't we pay attention to things like this? The food was good and was made even better by the 3 girls serving. The service was quick, smooth and friendly. 6 stars for that!

Yesterday we were back at the old Wagnerei for the first time since the operator changed and overall we were very satisfied. Good products, professional operation and good service. However, we do have one small constructive criticism or suggestion for improvement: the bread with the hand cheese felt like it came out of the bag and not like it was fresh from the bakery. Nonetheless, we will definitely come back.

This is the restaurant that amazed me. I would not say it is the best, but it is a real good one. The food are all well cooked, dessert are delicious. My family and I enjoy here very much. For sure we will come more often. Sorry I don't habe any photo to post because we ate them quickly:->

After a long time we went to the old Wagnerei again. The service was super friendly, the waiting time was optimal and the food was really very good. We will definitely come back and would be happy to recommend the Alte Wagnerei to others.

We dined here with five adults, an adolescent, three small children and a baby on Boxing Day. The food was very tasty. The wait was definitely reasonable. We had enough space for everyone, even the stroller at the table. The staff was very friendly. We were completely satisfied and will definitely come back in the future. Thank you

After a nice reception everything was fine. Unfortunately the roulade wasn't really hot, just warm. Unfortunately the other order was wrong.

On the 1st of Advent we spent a wonderful lunch and afternoon with over 60 people in the old wheelwright's workshop. The food (soup, goose and dessert) was perfect and, according to my guests, tasted excellent! The service was great and the staff were very accommodating and friendly. Before the actual meal, there was a reception outside with hot Äppler and lard bread. That also worked very well. All in all... A big thank you to Jeremy Jakob (restaurant manager) and his team. Saturday evening, 6:30 p.m. We are looking forward to the roast goose, the goose leg and goose leg + breast we ordered will be served. Everything seems appetizing. The chef didn't do anything wrong with the table tennis ball-sized dumplings and the red cabbage. When the goose and the sauce were being prepared, he was either absent or not paying attention. The piece of breast on my plate was slightly difficult to cut, with the leg the meat wouldn't leave the bone alone. The same drama with my wife, who bravely struggled through the food and finally gave up. That's why I know how this leg was mistreated. The basis and preparation of the sauce will certainly remain the chef's secret. For us it was the 1st and last time. If we hadn't come with someone, we would have at least given the roast goose back!! A bright spot this evening, a very attentive and friendly smiling service. Unfortunately, she couldn't make up for the thin impression.

Great beer garden, with really delicious food and super good service

The former owner was very unpleasant to many as a person, but at least he had his shop under control. Six of us waited for drinks for almost 40 minutes in the half-empty beer garden, while the service staff at the front had a quiet chat. When asked about this, the service manager just shrugs his shoulders. We then went somewhere else to eat.

Nice beer garden with plenty of parking spaces. I have to say, I've rarely had such an ice-cold beer...fantastic. The food is highly recommended.

Everything was great, except my sweet potatoes weren't cooked through. :S I love the quinoa dish.

Very nice atmosphere in the beer garden, several gluten-free dishes to choose from with competent advice and implementation of gluten-free requests, e.g. unbreaded schnitzel, very friendly and attentive service staff, parking available in the "Brückmühl" car park - with direct access.

Sehr gutes Essen- für jeden was dabei. Auch auf die Wünsche, der (beim Essen) etwas schwierigen Kinder wurde super eingegangen. Der Service ist aufmerksam, schnell und herzlich. Wir hatten Glück mit dem Wetter und konnten draußen sitzen, der Garten ist ein Traum.

It has slowed down a lot. Food is a lot smaller, the green sauce is very thin. Service - somehow only two were working, the rest were just standing around. It wasn't really full but we still had to wait forever. When I caught a waitress at some point, she simply turned away and talked to her colleague who told her some gossip. Only after the private banter did she turn to me again. I definitely won't come again. The price-performance ratio has decreased significantly, which could also be seen in the number of visitors. On Sundays when the weather was nice it used to be full - today it's far away. Maybe think about it 😉

More food then justifies the price. We were there for the Switzerland-Germany game. Manager was quite nice. Our service was grade 6! Because the table was so small, we put the empty plates on another table. Afterwards we were looked at like how can we allow ourselves to do this? So I don't know. Price performance doesn't fit.

We have known the restaurant - run under several tenants - for many years. In the meantime the leadership has changed again. We were there with several people for the European Football Championship, but found that the portions had noticeably reduced and the prices had increased significantly. If you order a pasta dish and are asked if you would like parmesan with it, you shouldn't charge an extra 3.50 euros for it, especially since it wasn't more than a tablespoon and the price was not agreed upon beforehand or shown on the menu. The drinks are also overpriced. The cider is sometimes good and sometimes bad, apparently that's what's still in stock. The panacotta was returned because it was inedible and hard as cement. There's a lot involved in how you do it so badly. The service was understaffed that day but still quick and nice. Finally, however, the wrong table was billed for, something like that just doesn't work. We all paid a lot of money and still went home hungry.... Price/performance is not right. This is the result when there is a company behind it and no longer a private landlord.... It used to be much better - it's a shame!

Best spot for the public viewing of the EM2024 in Mühlheim. The staff also reacted spontaneously and did everything they could to give us a place in front of the screen. My tip is to reserve seats in front of the screen in the beer garden in good time.

It took too long for the food to come

A week ago we had dinner in the old Wagnerei on a Friday evening. Quite spontaneously. This was probably only possible because an event was taking place in Mühlheim at the same time. The food was great, but we were particularly impressed by a service person who really came across as extremely positive. In recent years I have rarely seen someone who came across as so contagious and friendly. We were really excited.

Unterirdisch. War zu einer Familienfeier da. Habe Schnitzel naggich mit Bratkartoffeln bestellt. Das Schnitzel war zäh und die Bratkartoffeln waren matschig und trieften vor Fett. Ich habe die Kartoffeln reklamiert. Einziger Spruch: ich sags der Küche. Keine Entschulidgung oder Entschädigung. Es gab auch kein Gemüse dazu oder Salat vorweg, wie es in anderen Restaurants üblich ist. Für mich ist es das schlechteste aller Mühlheimer Restaurants. Nie wieder Alte Wagnerei

Unfortunately, the quality of food and service is very variable and on the last visits in June 2024 the quality was just okay, but the service was unfortunately completely overwhelmed with just a few guests. A complaint email remained unanswered. A pity...

We were there a week ago and were not disappointed. Super nice, attentive and friendly young team. We were there for 2 hours and had nothing to complain about! Clean, good food, very friendly team and good price-performance ratio. By the way, the homemade peach iced tea, the Cordom Bleu with extra green sauce and the medlar were a hit. I was at an event in Mühlheim in the evening and wanted to eat something beforehand. I came across this restaurant on Google Maps and found the website appealing. The restaurant itself is a bit hidden, but has a large beer garden and is comfortably furnished inside. I was lucky and got a place despite not having a reservation, so I recommend booking in advance if there are several people. The service was very quick and friendly and also made a food recommendation, unfortunately Leberkäse is not my thing, so I decided on the Handkäs ravioli in apple cider cream, with the homemade iced peach tea... simply delicious 😋 👍🏻 for that For dessert I couldn't avoid the strawberry panacotta... also very tasty 😊 I will definitely come back both alone and with family and friends

Very nice location. Food was great and came very quickly. Unfortunately, service could be improved and it wasn't even full. I don't want to know how the store runs when it's busy, when the weather is good and the beer garden is open.

Despite having ordered a table, we were only offered a dirty beer set. Not set and there were only tables with chairs for two or four people. You can't push the tables together. Service annoyed, after an hour they said that they would only start when the kitchen had capacity again and then it could take another hour. Kitchen would be overwhelmed with two confirmations. You don't know that when you accept reservations? We used to love coming here. Now never again.

We have loved coming here for years, great service, great food and lovely atmosphere. We have tried it three times for about a year and have been extremely disappointed each time. The food we ordered was delivered incorrectly, the potatoes were still raw, cold and we had to wait a long time. Anything can happen, we are all human and things go wrong. However, yesterday we waited more than 2 hours for food, which never came. It took over 30 minutes for the drinks to arrive and the wrong drinks were brought twice. After politely asking several times what was going on with our food, it was discovered after 2 hours that it had never been prepared. Unfortunately, many other guests felt the same way yesterday. Unfortunately, after 2.5 hours we left the restaurant with empty stomachs. If the communication had been right and we had been informed that it would take a long time, but unfortunately we were just put off and we have to be patient... after three frustrating visits we won't be coming back. That's really a pity.

I had dinner there today for Mother's Day. Unfortunately, something went wrong. We had to make ourselves known first so we could get a ticket. Then a condition came to our attention that we would like to have something to drink. It all took a long time and you had to keep asking. The guests at the tables around us were also very angry because no food came or because other guests who came much later got food earlier. The food itself is very tasty (except the cold potatoes) but the portion has shrunk significantly. I've eaten there several times before, but today I was very disappointed!

The outdoor area was about half full and we waited for almost half an hour until we were allowed to order drinks, and we also ordered food right away. After the initially wrong drinks, the first main course came with the hand cheese that had been specially ordered as a starter. I don't understand what a double portion was supposed to be. Two small pieces of hand cheese shared the plate with a few pieces of onion and two extremely small slices of bread. The main course consisted of the thinnest schnitzel I have ever seen. You can do it, but please do two of them. In addition to the fried potatoes, the meal was garnished with a pot of green sauce, about three tablespoons. I was able to eat several minutes later when I was brought cutlery. The other food for my companions came shortly before I had finished eating. The taste was fine. But for an adult? I haven't left a restaurant hungry in a very long time. The waitress kept looking past us and seemed very tired. Conclusion: Taste and ambience good... The rest is simply not enough for this price.

Went there for lunch like every year on Father's Day. This time for the last time! Bratwurst still raw, asparagus and sauce cold, potatoes not cooked through, etc. pure disaster. Medlar at first empty then not in the end it was a peach not a medlar. Incredible! We had to send 4 out of 6 meals back, at least they weren't charged. How a great restaurant can turn into such a catastrophe in such a short time is a mystery to me...

It would be nice if it tasted good too. The schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce was subterranean and beautifully opened in the package. The hand cheese is ice cold, what an insult to such a product... The salad is also ice cold. You don't even bother with criticism. Incredible! 😔 Sad thing and not worth the money and time.

A restaurant with lots of indoor seating and a large beer garden with a play area for children. Unfortunately, the waitresses and kitchen staff change very often and there isn't much of the old flair left.

Schnitzel mit Champignonrahmsoße und Bratkartoffeln: leider alles Convenience, die Soße war eine Bratensoße ohne Pilze, die Bratkartoffeln labberig. Unfortunately you can't give 0 stars. Yes, the beer garden was well attended, but definitely not full. But all that remains to be said is absolute catastrophe!!! We definitely won't come back. The requested dishes were “sold out”. Re-ordered several times. After 2 hours we left as we were still waiting for 3 out of 4 main courses. 1 has been (at least partially) in the sun for half an hour. All the tables that ordered after us already had their food. And that with hungry children. Are the staff accommodating? None!! Organization of the restaurant was disastrous. But we weren't the only ones who left. And the woman at the next table who got raw potatoes wasn't really in a good mood either.

Absolutely overwhelming in this restaurant in every respect and on every level and certainly not because it was so incredibly well attended. 75 minutes after placing the order we didn't even get any drinks. After another long wait and 5 minutes before all the other guests in this group were served their dish, we were informed that one of the dishes we had ordered, which had been confirmed to us beforehand, was not available. The remaining dishes were either incomplete, contained plastic residue or aphids. Unfortunately, no “I know” (???) from management helps. In the end, the entire invoice amount was actually demanded for this entire catastrophe (here only with a waiting time because the EC device was defective). The drinks that were supposed to be on the house for a short time were not on the house (not that that helped in any way). Unfortunately, the management has absolutely no problem-solving skills or service orientation and has neither the kitchen nor the service staff under control. Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos of the plastic and the aphids.

Incompetent staff, no idea about the drinks, which are then forgotten, tables are not cleaned, the slide is full of unused umbrellas, etc... if the beer garden wasn't nice to sit in, you wouldn't be allowed to go here!

Very pleasant service and nice ambience with an impressive outdoor area! Unfortunately, the cooking time for the asparagus and potatoes was sometimes too short and therefore an uneven visit. We were warmly welcomed and the place was moderately busy for lunch. Next time I would like to pay as much attention to the cooking as I did when preparing the plates, because they were really beautifully draped. Next time I'm in the area I'm looking forward to the regional dishes 👍🏼 P.S: The Cordon Bleu was great 👍🏼

Been here again for a long time. (Stopover on a bike tour) highly recommended. Cyclists are very welcome, as you can see from the special parking lot for cyclists. Frankfurt schnitzel with fried potatoes as good as ever.

Hello. I am a professional chef. Most restaurants, especially the so-called excursion restaurants, simply cannot make fried potatoes. Except here. Crispy, hot, tasty, not overly seasoned, just like the sausage salad that came with it. Homemade, delicious. Not too much vinegar, which is unfortunately what most people find. Great ambience and nice service that also listens. We will come back. April 7, 2024 We were there again. My wife ordered Frankfurter Schnitzel, it was very well fried, great fried potatoes and delicious green sauce. I wasn't so lucky at first. Beef brisket with horseradish sauce. The meat was too hard and the potatoes were cold. Gave it back. It was said that some guests had already complained. Oh well. Then you just have to take it off the map, I think. However, the apology sounded friendly. I ordered veal cheeks as a replacement. Tender, tasty sauce and well-cooked broccoli, although according to the menu it should be Romanesco. A good dish. Except for the “accident” with the beef brisket, otherwise very good and relaxing in the beautiful garden. We will be back.

We were there on March 31, 24. I was really looking forward to this evening as I have always been very satisfied. I think it's normal that prices increase during this time. However, I would have expected the portions to remain the same. There was real savings there. The food was tasty, but there was very little on the plate. Next time I'll probably choose a restaurant where I'm happy to pay the price and feel like I won't be treated this way.

I have celiac disease, so eating out is always a bit difficult for me. I was there on Saturday and the nice, very competent and enlightened chef came to my table and spoke to me when I asked in advance. Not only was the food delicious, it came to my table gluten-free, as promised. The waitresses were all friendly and attentive, we were all happy with the food, a perfect evening. Thanks to the entire team! (For everyone affected: Allergens and gluten are identified for every dish).

Ordered cordon bleu with fried potatoes yesterday, there was very little meat and you had to look for the fried potatoes 😞 the taste was good, the price was totally exorbitant.

We went there for the first time on the recommendation of a friend. She was still there when the old owner was there (we didn't know there was a new one). The food was home-style. Ordered Frankfurt Schnitzel with green sauce and fried potatoes. Unfortunately I didn't like the fried potatoes, I found them dry, the portion was very manageable, I've never had so little green sauce when it came up, a well-intentioned 4 tablespoons in the bowl... I've never experienced that before. The same goes for the impression of the other dishes (schnitzel cordon bleu, beef brisket and pulled pork burger, unfortunately only a 6 out of 10). Prices are a bit too high for what is on offer. Service was very nice, home-style inside. Whether you'll come back again... I don't think so! It's a real shame because the beer garden looks really inviting!
