I don't understand the bad reviews. Six of us went there for breakfast, and I think I can say for all six of us that we were very satisfied. The food tasted really good and the selection was perfect. I'm really picky when it comes to breakfast, but I can't say anything bad here. The only thing that bothered me was that it was loud. It wasn't that busy, though. The music and chatter was just too much in the old days. Apart from that, the atmosphere is really nice and the place is beautifully decorated. The service was perfectly fine. Friendly, and we never had to wait long (when ordering, being served, or paying). So, a buffet breakfast is definitely worth it. But reserving a table is recommended! 😉

First of all, the lady with the dreadlocks is the most unprofessional and unfriendly waitress I've experienced in a long time. She doesn't belong in the restaurant business. Just like the entire "Alex" establishment. The food, which is also completely overpriced, should definitely not be ordered when you're hungry, and especially not in a hurry. The portions are ridiculously small and still take over an hour to serve. But the preparation couldn't have taken that long, as several of our group's dishes were already cold. Now, to the next point: The place, especially the outdoor area, is not at all designed for larger groups, and the resulting small group tables are also treated like individual tables. The outdoor decor also left a lot to be desired, and the admittedly beautifully designed menu obscures the limited variety available here. Now for the food: The salads come without dressing, the schnitzels are ridiculously tiny (palm-sized!), the advertised braised onions are kindly thrown carelessly onto the schnitzel, stem-on, and the plates are carelessly garnished and empty. Instead, you get stupid plastic cutlery packs, of which there are far too few, and exclusive napkins, which you have to ask for separately. After the meal (which you wait over an hour for), you have to wait another hour before you're asked about any other requests or new drinks. I don't understand how this restaurant got more than 4 stars, since the service was even better at the kebab shop around the corner, where, by the way, you inevitably have to go afterwards to satisfy your still-hungry appetite. You feel downright cheated at "Alex," and no one should visit this restaurant.

What a shame! I stopped here for an iced coffee. The menu offers an iced coffee that can be ordered vegan. According to the menu, it consists of coffee, two scoops of bourbon vanilla or chocolate, coffee crumble, and whipped cream. I got a glass of plain, cold black coffee with a careless, half-melted scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. That's it. I wonder what exactly you're paying €6.40 for here, and why the menu advertises something different than what you actually get.

We (two) were there on a normal Saturday lunchtime at 12 noon. It wasn't busy inside. Nevertheless, it took at least 20 minutes for anyone to come to us. It wasn't busy and there was zero stress. There was no greeting. We ordered two iced teas and two schnitzels. After 25 minutes, the food arrived. No sign of drinks. They were only brought after I pointed them out, and then considerably later. And there was nothing about this drink that took longer to serve. My friend's food... came right back out, which is a sign of old grease. That's unacceptable at this time of night. And when I explained my complaint, the employee hid and left it to another colleague. To say the service was poor is an understatement. There was no service! There was no communication either. Not even an apology for the behavior. The Alex has been known and loved for ages. But with such behavior and a lack of everything, they can't bring the year to a close.

The food was okay—tasted okay, but nothing special. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired: Our orders were sometimes taken incorrectly, the drinks took a very long time to arrive, the table wasn't cleared during the entire visit, and the server was unfriendly. Overall, a mediocre visit—with better service, they certainly could have done better.

Was there on Sunday and it wasn't even full outside, maybe 10 guests, but you still had to wait 30 minutes until someone finally came. In that time, 4 guests left because nobody came and the waiters were just standing around inside.

The ambiance and decor are modern and very appealing. We sat outside on a sunny day, though. The price-performance ratio is outrageous, though. The Caesar salad consisted almost entirely of lettuce, and you can add chicken for an extra charge, but what you get is truly ridiculous. They put a huge amount of ice cubes in the 0.5-liter spritzer to fill the glass, which makes it taste rather watery.

Unfortunately, we regulars aren't particularly fond of the redesigned ALEX anymore. Did that have to happen? The previous ambiance was stylish and warm, now you sit like you're sitting in an IKEA showroom with a pointless mix of decor. A matter of taste, okay. But at the same time, the restaurant's price-performance ratio is becoming increasingly skewed. For example, we were there on Whitsun Sunday in the early evening; the place was half empty, but the noise level was still immense. The drinks took what felt like an eternity to arrive at our table, and the food was disappointing. We opted for two different schnitzel dishes. The schnitzels were tiny and a joke for €18.30 and €17.90 respectively! To keep it under control, the fries and fried potatoes were simply spread out across the plate; the finely shredded side salad easily fit on a single tablespoon. Some of the drink prices are just as abysmal. As a precaution, they're listed on the website's soft drink menu without any information about their ingredients. So: at least we'll eat somewhere else in the future.

A very nicely decorated and centrally located restaurant. Very friendly and customer-oriented service, with fast service. The vegetarian selection is okay, but could be more imaginative. The food arrived quickly, but unfortunately, my salad was swimming in dressing and was also very unimaginative (Cesar salad) – there's definitely room for improvement. The pasta was good and the ice cream sundae was delicious too. A small downside: the waffles were really old; the kitchen shouldn't have put them on the plate. I thought the prices were okay, but for Rostock, they were a bit steep for the food on offer. So: Do ​​something with the menu, serve fresh food instead of mush and stale stuff, and then things will get better with the neighbors!

Excellent restaurant! We had a really, really good meal there. The steak and fries are really good. The menu is large and varied. The atmosphere is quite cozy and relaxed inside. The server was quick and very friendly. Fast service. We highly recommend it.

Service: Brought more than ordered, and then a pissed-off look because you don't take it anyway. Atmosphere: (outside) no different than anywhere else. Food: Sorry, but if I order a burger for over €15, where the side (fries) costs almost €4 extra (for a small portion), then I at least expect the meat to come from the supermarket without being pre-formed. The meat is extremely tightly pressed, very light and very bland, and the perfect round shape you'd expect from the shrink-wrapped meat patties you'd find in supermarkets. The bacon was sometimes overcooked and therefore very hard. Conclusion: The price for the food is unjustified, and over €4 for a small 0.33 Coke is clearly too much. Sorry, but I'm very disappointed. There are clearly better alternatives in Rostock.

Breakfast was good until 12 o'clock, croissant, sparkling wine and the highlight was superfood latte

I just love having breakfast at Cafe Alex. But it’s better to book a table in advance, because there are always a lot of people. The downside is that the service is slow, but overall everything is great and of course I will come there again❤️

Das Ambiente ist schön-das Essen war leider nicht so toll. Ich hatte einen Burger-als dieser serviert wurde und ich ihn anschnitt, fiel mir gleich auf, dass das Patty nicht selbstgemacht war. Es war wahrscheinlich ein vorgefertigtes gekauftes Patty-ein NoGo! Geht gar nicht-von einem Restaurant erwarte ich, dass ein Patty aus frischem Rindfleisch selbst gemacht wird. Ich erwähnte das dann auch gegenüber der Bedienung und die Ausrede war, dass man bei der Menge, die jeden Tag benötigt wird, die Pattys vorfertigt. Wie bitte? Was für Arbeit macht denn bitte das abwiegen und formen eines Pattys-zumal es dafür sogar schon Hilfen gibt. Also das geht gar nicht und hat auch nichts mit der Qualität des „alten“ Alex gemein. Allgemein waren auch die Preise nicht angemessen. Ein weiteres Minus ist der Zustand/Geruch der Toiletten.

It was very good, even better after the modernization

Unfortunately, expectations were not met. Smoking is allowed everywhere outside. The interior is relatively loud, but the decoration is something. We waited over 20 minutes for a coke and water and the store was at most 1/3 full. At some point the lukewarm sweet potato lentil soup also arrived. This was delicious, only the container was hotter than the soup itself. Then we had cheeseburgers. Taking a ready-made patty out of the freezer for that price is a bit cheeky. As Rostock residents, we wanted to try out the new Alex. That was the last time.

After the remodel, the room looks much more attractive. I'd love to come back

Probably the friendliest staff here in the north of Germany. A great cocktail list and a very decent menu. Beautiful interior, large halls and terraces, as cold as it is - they will give out a blanket. The mode of operation until late - which cannot help but please.

Das Essen und der Service waren super. Aber als wir nachfragten ob man reservieren kann, kam die Antwort nur Online. Das was wir auch getan hatten. 2 Anfragen und jedesmal wir melden uns zeitnah zurück! Wir wollten für 15 Hochzeitsgäste reservieren. 8 Tage später, es gab keinen Rückruf!!!! Sehr schade, Es gibt noch andere Gastronomien !!!!

Restaurant was remodeled some time ago. Is cozy. The food tastes good. You only get ripped off when it comes to drinks. 0.2l juice for 4.30 euros (see photo). That's twice as expensive as a beer (0.5l for 5.30 euros)

A very nice restaurant, but unfortunately the rest isn't quite right. The drink was so sweet that you could hardly drink it, some of the food was missing and you can't get staff to tell you about it, you also have to wait forever until someone comes to pay, and the restaurant wasn't full at the time. I was very disappointed last year and thought I would give the Alex another chance after the renovation, but unfortunately everything is the same. Too bad.

We had been back to Alex for a long time, we wanted to revel in old times and good citizens. We were very disappointed, after 1 1/2 hours of waiting (arrived at 6:30 p.m., ordered, received food at 7:57 p.m.) the food came partly lukewarm, the vegetables in the bowl were very onion-heavy and overcooked. In addition, the prices for the portions were more than shocking. SPICY NACHO AND FRIES DELUXE as small as the palm of my hand. I'll post photos. Since it was so full, the waiters had a lot to do, there were only 3 employees in the kitchen, they couldn't get the situation under control, so that questions/complaints were given friendly, forgiving explanations by our waitress, but the situation couldn't be resolved. I paid 43 euros for a lassange, fries, starter soup, nachos and two lemonades. With the burger there was no salad or anything like that as a visual addition on the plate, fries had to be paid for separately. That didn't exist "before". I have no idea when the upheaval came. I am a guest in many different chains, brands and star restaurants, the one at Alex in Rostock is not in the price/performance ratio. I will also contact the branch, I'm looking forward to hearing what they say. It's a shame, we used to go there with joy, hunger and good food, today was our very last time. And dear management; if staff could be missing would be a possibility; Halving the menu or not filling all the tables. But of course the money doesn't flow into the pockets, which are already full to the brim. The staff can't do anything about situations like this. Others make money here.

There were two of us as there wasn't much going on and it was rather quiet. Which of course made a good impression. We had made a reservation, entered the restaurant and stood there and were observed (in our opinion) what we were doing in a very derogatory manner by two young employees. Then we went to the bar and mentioned that we had reserved. Rather annoyed, the young man came away from the bar, went to the book and then willingly showed us our place again. There was already a situation for us as to whether we should not go again. We sat there for 2 minutes and then a waitress came and when I said I needed a moment they rolled their eyes and gave me an annoyed “okay”. After about 10 minutes she came back with the words: “Are you finally ready?” I don’t know, you can’t do it. It's a shame because the drinks and the food were perfect (maybe a little too many tomato pieces in the pasta sauce, but that would be very picky to complain about), the waffles were very fresh and great. The cook does a priority job. Maybe the employees didn't feel like it that evening or had already had bad situations before, but I would hope that for next time they save themselves certain gestures or statements.

The Alex was still full of breakfast guests. We were lucky and a table was cleared. Ordering took a while, but dishes and drinks were brought quickly. Prices typical of the Alex chain are a little higher than the portion size, but the quality and taste are good. Everything there for meat and plant eaters. Also with hot drinks and desserts. Dogs allowed, disabled toilet available.

The restaurant, the bar... yes, I was fascinated, but I was disappointed by the toilets, they looked bad, some of them had no paper... sorry, there is a lot of room for improvement, especially when it's only the afternoon.

I had to wait quite a long time for our drinks and finally for the bill. When it came to the bill, I even had the impression that we had been forgotten. The restaurant was anything but full. Nevertheless, we were satisfied with our first visit to Alex and would love to come back👍🏻

The extra thick fries convinced me. You wouldn't believe how many other run-of-the-mill restaurants only offer the standard used oil sticks. At Alex, on the other hand, you get well-formed, juicy and delicious thick fries.

This isn't the first time we've had breakfast at Alex. The conversion was successful. Bright and friendly. The service staff is attentive and professional. We would have liked a little more fresh fruit. We'll definitely be back.

A great dining establishment in the center of the city, very well located and easily accessible. The food is fresh, well prepared and very tasty. There is always a large selection for breakfast. The staff is always friendly. The prices are reasonable. I am always happy to visit this oasis. Keep it up! You always feel comfortable with you.

As always, the food is great and so are the numerous drinks of all kinds 😁. What is important to me: we come over with our dog every now and then and when we register there is a bowl at the table. Today we came here from dog school. A lot of dogs and mistresses and masters. Two bowls of fresh water were available. The staff treated us cheerfully, friendly and understandingly. Respect!!! This wasn't a normal job!!! A big thank you to you for that!!!

Under all cannon, what happened at Alex over the weekend. I went there with my girlfriend (we made reservations in advance). We went in and initially stood in the entrance like stupid and no one felt ready to talk to us or direct us to the table. Then finally an employee came and showed us our table. Right in the middle of the room, although there is still a table for 2p. The window was free and we asked if we could sit there. The employee thought for a moment, mumbled something into her beard and walked away. Having slowly come to terms with the table, we looked at ONE card together because no second one was brought to us. After ages our “responsible” waitress arrived. She was in a hurry because the store was very full. Ordered food and the food was there in 15 minutes. We've never had such a bad meal. We tried each and then left the food as it was. Because there were so many tables, the waitress didn't come to us once in a while to ask if we wanted something to drink or if the food was tasty. We then ordered the invoice. Then finally the question came about how the food was. Well, we said we didn't like it. If we hadn't received a voucher from there, we wouldn't have gone, but after the reopening we expected more. The new ambience is very similar to that of Peter Pane. Never again. What a pity about the nice money!

After the reopening, we spent lovely hours with good food at Alex. We really liked the service and the new ambience. We are already looking forward to our next meeting here at Alex.

The Alex has been newly redesigned and visually very beautiful, especially the toilet area = courage to use color, great. What was once loud has now become even more extreme due to the lack of walls or noise absorbers, plants, walls etc.!!! It's a very large room & there is conversation at ALL the tables... There are such great & inexpensive acoustic panels these days!!! Why aren't these integrated into the spatial image? There are some that are visually very beautiful. The service is very attentive, friendly and quick.

We were there for brunch today as a group. Good selection of cold and warm things, nicely arranged. Nothing that surprised me, but definitely a solid offer. Price completely okay. I didn't find the mini donuts tasty and the rice pudding was too thick. Otherwise everything tasted good. I found drink prices to be quite high. The staff was friendly and the location seemed warm and stylish. Funny for me: the selection of decorations on the shelves. Taken individually, these are really horrible things, but together they create a coherent picture. A mini play area is available. The women's toilet smells unpleasant.

We were out and about in Rostock today and wanted to spontaneously have breakfast. After a short search we ended up in Alex. Unfortunately the restaurant was very busy, but we were still able to get a seat. After 15 minutes of waiting for service, we decided to go to the buffet. The selection was good, but in my opinion there is a lot of room for improvement in the quality of the products. After another 15 minutes at the table our order was taken. After another 20 minutes we received the drinks. The service was very friendly... Our seat was also very disadvantageous as it was on the walkway to the buffet and therefore very frequented by other guests. Due to the long waiting time, the restless atmosphere and the quality of the buffet, I unfortunately cannot give more stars in my opinion.

We were given a warm welcome, with the words “unfortunately we don’t have a table for you because you haven’t shown up since 5 p.m.” our reservation, which we had already reserved a year in advance for a Christmas party for 20, which we requested again a few weeks ago and was always confirmed, was supposedly reserved for 5:00 p.m. After a brief moment of discussion and incomprehension, we finally got a table. We liked the renovation and also the food, but drinks were very watery for the prices. The waiter was super relaxed and served us well when he was there. Long waiting times for drinks. All in one, otherwise Alex is always a must. However, not recommended at the moment. Very unfortunate

Unfortunately our visit to Alex was a huge disappointment. As vegans, it was particularly annoying for us that mistakes were made in two dishes: My vegan bowl was served with meat, which fortunately I recognized immediately and was able to complain about. What was worse, however, was that my partner's supposedly vegan gyozas were stuffed with shrimp - we only noticed that after biting into them. Such mistakes are unacceptable and show a lack of care in the kitchen. The service also left a lot to be desired: the drinks took forever and the food also came with a considerable delay. Paying was particularly frustrating. The waitresses didn't check the tables in our area regularly, no eye contact was made, and we felt completely ignored. After waiting half an hour we finally went to see a service ourselves, but even after that it took another 15 minutes without anything happening. In the end we put the money on the table and left. The food tasted good, but with this catastrophic service and the serious errors in the orders, we can't recommend Alex under any circumstances.

A real challenge for sensitive souls! To me, the new ambience seems visually and acoustically overloaded. Fast, cranked up music in the background, jungle-like, colorful decorations and art objects mixed wildly everywhere. I was very surprised that ALEX hadn't associated this with the jungle before. I find the seat cover to be very comfortable and soft. Slightly separated areas and long sofas against the wall are comfortable. Everything seems very angular and hyper-modern to me. I found the furnishings more comfortable back then and wonder why there was a need for the design. Great for families: a children's play area! I found the light, which was dimmed later, pleasant. Unfortunately, these charts in the background are inappropriate. Not for the faint of heart! Certainly great for people who are looking for distraction and entertainment outside. The spoon with my latte macchiato didn't give me a nice mouthfeel with its hard and pointed edges. The bar looks quite nice with all the colorful bottles. For me, this visit is more of an exercise in dealing with overstimulation than a place to relax. Everyone as they like :)

We had dinner there with 6 people at the weekend and unfortunately I couldn't find anything good that evening. Starting with the fact that we had reserved a table and when we got there there was no table available. It was pure chaos there and the staff seemed to be completely overwhelmed. Of course we were put off at first and we should be patient. So we waited 15 minutes until the staff decided to put 2 small tables together, right in the entrance area, where you sat directly behind the reception and in the middle of the train when the door opened. The waiter came straight after to take the drinks order and they came relatively quickly, but from then on it was a matter of waiting, waiting, waiting... a whole 25 minutes until we asked if we could also order food. The waiter who wanted to take the food order didn't know anything about the technology, was completely overwhelmed and after 5 minutes of trying, he got a colleague to take the order. I'm a patient person but after that we waited a solid 75 minutes!!! on our food. At that time, other guests who came after us had long since received their food and were finished eating! This is an absolute disgrace. From what I've read in the other reviews, I'm not the only one who is massively dissatisfied with the staff. There probably needs to be urgent improvements or the staff should be better trained. That's not possible and is definitely a reason not to eat there anymore. The elevator for the disabled toilet is still broken!!! This has also been criticized in previous recessions and improvements were promised. Nothing happened!!! It's a shame that this isn't taken seriously. Conclusion: Absolutely not recommended, long waiting times, staff sometimes completely overwhelmed and poorly trained, you could eat food, although people may have different opinions about the portion size and the associated price.

The evening starts strangely when you have made a reservation and then tables for two are put together by the staff so that the 6 reserved people still get a place. The place for us was right at the entrance, where the door opened and closed and we got every breeze. We ordered drinks, which worked well, but we had to wait another half hour before eating. The staff didn't seem to be familiar with what they wanted to include in the menu, or it seemed to be poorly incorporated, and the gentleman couldn't understand our requests or record them in the system because it wasn't yet known enough for them. Guests who came after us already had their main course before us. We were there with two children who were becoming more and more restless and we were starting to lose patience too. When we got our food, we weren't impressed with the portion sizes and the presentation of the dishes. Maybe reservations should be planned better and considered more sensitively given the rush of guests. Nobody can do anything about the unpleasant background noise, you probably have to accept that, but you should provide staff who are well organized and structured. Unfortunately we weren't really impressed with the value for money and we were very sad and disappointed when we left. We are really very patient guests, we know how the staffing ratio can be set up and how difficult it is to find good staff. But sometimes fewer guests who are extremely satisfied are worth more than masses of guests, many of whom leave the location dissatisfied. By the way, the elevator for wheelchair users was still broken, as already reported in previous posts.

I had salmon spinach lasagne as a gift, it was still too expensive, I've rarely had such a disaster on my plate!! I had to give it back!!

Breakfast was good, but the coffee was unfortunately cold. Unfortunately the staff is inflexible. We made reservations for 6 people in May and were supposed to sit at different tables today. Our request to put two tables together was rejected. After a long discussion it worked, but our company dinner got off to a bad start. Unfortunately, two battens were also swapped, despite our comment. Unfortunately we only noticed it after trying it. With caramel it was so sweet and inedible for me. When I wanted to complain about it, they said it wasn't possible and that they would have to charge for the new one too. Then she had the idea that we could swap. I thought it was a joke, but she was serious. Incredible!!! Then there was a sign on the wheelchair toilet that said, “Faulty, please use the toilet in the basement.” Unfortunately, this could be reached via stairs. I would have liked to see how that would work. Overall there is a lot of room for improvement.

Very dog ​​friendly. Breakfast buffet varied and delicious. Something for all tastes: sweet or savory. From rolls to pencakes to pasta salad, there are many different delicacies. The price for the offer is great. Edit November 24: after the renovation there is still nothing to complain about on the menu. However, in my opinion the coziness has been lost. It's much louder and more restless in concept, seating has been "squeezed" into every corner.

Spontaneously went there on Friday evening because we wanted a cocktail and a waffle. It took almost 20 minutes until someone came to our table and it was normally busy. The waffle wasn't crispy and the chocolate with which the waffle was on the menu was more of an accessory. The scoop of ice cream that came with it was completely forgotten, even though it was ordered. The Tequila Sunrise was sour?! Why? The Sex on the Beach was way too sweet for that, there was definitely too much peach juice (syrup) I don't know. Anyway, it tasted like a lot of peaches. Dear Alex team, maybe do another cocktail course. Regarding cleanliness, the toilet was a disgrace, no toilet paper!!! The soap empty. And the stairs to the toilet are so dirty. Even when there is a lot of activity, an interior staircase doesn't look like this. Sorry but that just doesn't work. The service was overwhelmed, the tables were not cleared, even though people walked past with empty trays several times. Too bad.

Ambience ok after complete renovation this year - drinks and food, despite inflation (in my opinion) overpriced compared to other restaurants in the area - in connection with very slow service (apparently far too few employees - this is less the fault of them) - unfortunately within the limits decreased massively in recent years.

We go there very often, the staff is more than friendly and the food and drinks are very delicious. The branch has been remodeled and is now even more modern and friendly

Es war wie immer toll im ALEX! Der Umbau ist sehr gut gelungen. Ich komme immer wieder gern zu Euch. Bleibt weiter so freundlich und gut gelaunt!

Very disappointing. Brunch wasn't what you expected. The 4 warm dishes for brunch were fried eggs, small sausages, scrambled eggs and farmer's breakfast with tomato...ridiculous. Actually a normal breakfast... with little choice of cheese or cold cuts. Also types of bread VERY limited. So we never again!!! Too bad

The food went like this: the burger was just a ready-made patti... not homemade. But that should be a prerequisite for the price. Otherwise the service was nice and the atmosphere was good.
