ALEX Regensburg in Regensburg

We went there for breakfast (buffet). What can I say...? Taste is subjective, so I'll leave that out of the review. 90% of the buffet was empty by 9:30 am. What was there was unfortunately cold. No pretzels (about a 15-minute wait). No bread rolls. If there were scrambled eggs, there was no bacon, and if there was bacon, there were no eggs. Staff were taking their break at the next table during a loud video call, which bothered me. And why push a black garbage can through the dining area between the tables? I wonder if that's really necessary. There were five of us, and unfortunately, none of us will be going back. Plus, €47 for two breakfasts with one hot drink each and one cold drink? No thanks. At the end of the day, everyone has to form their own opinion, and you can't please everyone anyway. But it wasn't for us. And keep your jacket on because it's very cold in there.

Expensive but nice atmosphere. The portions have also gotten smaller.

On January 4, 2026, we were at a café with a large group of friends. Around 10:15 p.m., we paid the bill to a waiter who hadn't served us at all the entire evening. We wanted to pay by card, which was no problem. After we paid, the waiter asked us why we weren't leaving a tip. When we calmly said "no," he became visibly angry and explained that in Germany it was mandatory to leave at least a 10% tip, regardless of whether you paid in cash or by card. This statement is false, and this behavior is unacceptable. Tips are voluntary, not obligatory. They are an additional gesture of appreciation that the guest gives at their own discretion—especially for good service. The waiter even went so far as to say that we would no longer be welcome if we didn't leave a tip. Such behavior toward guests is disrespectful, unprofessional, and shameful. I've been a regular at this café for over 10 years, and I visited three times in the week leading up to this visit. That makes it all the more disappointing to be treated this way. I'm not writing this review out of anger, but so that management understands how long-time customers are treated. Employees are paid by their employer and are not dependent on forced tips. The waiter in question refused to give us his name. Such behavior is unacceptable for a café with this reputation.

Good food with a sufficient selection

The name Alex is synonymous with a good atmosphere, delicious food, and friendly staff throughout Germany. The food isn't always of consistent quality, and the friendliness isn't always apparent. Many employees walk by, but you only get served if you call for them. The location is very well chosen, like many others I know. However, it's not quite a five-star experience. There's still a lot of room for improvement.

The restaurant is so beautifully bright and modern, offering a cozy and fresh atmosphere. We were there at Christmas and were generally satisfied. The service was good and friendly. And when it comes to food, opinions naturally vary. My meal was Thai-Asian, and I personally found the portion of rice and sauce very small compared to other restaurants and for the price. Otherwise, the food was tasty, but it's a shame that there really wasn't enough of it...

Some of the drinks were lukewarm. The cake was inedible. One waiter was friendly, another unfortunately very unfriendly.

We've been coming to Alex for the buffet regularly for many years. Many staff members are consistently there, always friendly and attentive. They have everything you could want. While many places now offer bowls and other trendy foods, here – at least at the breakfast buffet – they focus on traditional, "classic" food. Perhaps soy or oat milk would be nice, but we're happy with it as it is.

Hi, the food is great, I think the view of the square is beautiful and I enjoyed it a lot.

Even though the restaurant was half empty,the waitress would not to our table to take our order. We even waited patiently for 30 minutes. Even though we tried to draw attention they constantly ignored us. Apparently they everyone else around us was served. I don’t wanna sound suspicious but i was the only person of color there .Me and my gf felt very offended . Our nice little Christmas market date was negatively overshadowed .

Shift supervisor is a complete hothead – attacks customers for no reason! -abosolur offers terrible service and absolutely no understanding of customers. I will NEVER go there again! I would seriously reconsider. Definitely lost customers because of this. A little tip for the boss: Change the shift supervisor!!

I was there today and ordered the Alex cheeseburger. I've never had a worse burger. The patty was like the frozen ones they sell, or the ones they put in dumplings, like foam rubber. I didn't even finish the patty; it was absolute crap, and it cost €16. The bun was delicious, the vegetables inside weren't salted, and there was no salt, pepper, or napkins on the table. The fries were delicious. My tea with lemon and honey turned out to be without tea leaves, just water, honey, and lemon—€4.90. I was with a friend, and the bill for two teas and two burgers came to €50. We would have been better off going to 1984 to eat delicious sushi. I won't eat anything else at this place. I'll say it again: the patty in the cheeseburger is absolute crap 🤮

I stopped by this café in Regensburg and really enjoyed it! I had a cappuccino with a chocolate mousse, and both were excellent. My friend tried the carrot cake, which was also delicious and worth recommending. The atmosphere was cozy, and it’s definitely a nice spot to enjoy good coffee and dessert. Highly recommend!

We only stopped by for coffee. The ambiance, with its many pictures and diverse furniture, looks great. However, if you have a seat near the entrance, you'll need a jacket to sit there for any length of time, as it gets too drafty. The service was friendly. Unfortunately, the restrooms were dirty and grimy.

Cool atmosphere and friendly service. The food quality is okay, but nothing special, and the price/performance ratio is just about acceptable.

We only had drinks here – what struck us right away was how incredibly friendly and helpful the team was – respect. We were in Austria yesterday, and things are quite different there. Keep it up!

We went to Alex around 5 pm today and had a few drinks. The waiter was very friendly. However, it was so cold inside that we didn't feel like ordering any food. No wonder: the outside door was often open at -5°C, and the inside door didn't close properly either. Apparently, the mechanisms of both doors aren't working correctly. Even the curtain between the doors didn't make any noticeable difference. We've been observing this problem for several winters now. We also noticed that several guests were keeping their winter coats on in the entrance area. This could probably be easily fixed, as it likely only requires adjusting the doors correctly. It's a real shame – especially considering the unnecessary energy waste!

A fantastic Sunday brunch. Great selection. Superb taste. Friendly and efficient service. Unfortunately, we were seated near the entrance, and other guests often left their doors open, which made it quite cold and drafty at times. However, the staff made sure the door was closed again. We'll gladly come back.

The breakfast buffet absolutely won us over. Not only was it delicious, but the price was also really fair in my opinion. The selection is enormous, and every dish seems freshly prepared. I was particularly impressed by the pancakes: the sauce isn't overly sweet or artificial, but rather has a really pleasant flavor. Plus, the entire buffet is replenished promptly. The atmosphere is also very pleasant. The seating is comfortable and invites you to linger. That's something I often miss in many other places. The staff is always friendly and makes you feel welcome. I can also highly recommend the cocktails. They are perfectly balanced, neither too strong nor too weak, and are served attractively and freshly. In short: everything is just right here. We always love coming back :)

A delicious breakfast buffet at a very fair price. The selection is huge, everything tastes fantastic (especially the pancakes with hot cherries and vanilla sauce), and it's constantly replenished. The seating is very comfortable, which I often miss in other places. The staff is always very friendly, too. I can also highly recommend the cocktails. The alcohol content is just right, and the cocktails are served attractively and freshly. What more could you want? We'll definitely be back. 🤗🧡

We arrived at ALEX with high expectations, really looking forward to a schnitzel. The ambiance is okay, but the food was absolutely awful. The first time we tried it, the chicken schnitzel wasn't cooked through. As compensation, we were given a free coffee. The second time, it arrived dark on the plate, yet the meat had the consistency of rubbery, chewy tendons. It looked like partially raw fish (photo attached). Just looking at it made us sick. So we only tried a small piece, and my girlfriend, who was so hungry, cut it three times. A staff member asked if everything was alright, and we both said no again. We asked the server if she would like to try what was on our plate. The answer was "no, thank you," accompanied by a head shake. It makes you wonder why not. And this is what they serve for €14.30. The entire plate went back. The worst part, however, was that they still charged the full price. We left hungry with stomach aches. So sad 😢 Never again!

Unfortunately, there was a fly in the ointment and rather unfriendly service without any exchange offer.

Instead of going to the changing room to change, the waiter went right through the restaurant in front of all the guests. He took off his shirt and went on his break in his undershirt. That is extremely rude.

We made a reservation 1-2 months ago for 12 people for a birthday party. We went there this morning and suddenly there was no reservation. We stood there with 12 people looking stupid and then had to find somewhere else to go.

I've been a regular at ALEX on Neupfarrplatz for several months now, both for personal reasons and for my creative workshops (under @decoratedbysam), and I'm always very happy with my visit! The team is incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful. Even if we stay a little longer during the workshops, it's never a problem. A big thank you also goes to Ghani, the owner; she took the time to talk to me right from our first meeting, even though she was already swamped! From a culinary perspective, ALEX is one of the most diverse restaurants in Regensburg, in my opinion. They offer a wide selection of dishes: from fresh salads, burgers, gyozas, and (Asian) bowls to classic pasta dishes. Everything tastes delicious and is beautifully presented! Vegan and vegetarian options are readily available and prepared with great care. ...``` I'd especially like to highlight the brunch buffet, which is truly exceptional: a huge selection of salmon, cheese, cold cuts, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, fried potatoes, desserts, and a muesli bar—all served from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.! The price-performance ratio (around €20) is absolutely fair, especially considering the quality and variety. The drinks menu also leaves nothing to be desired: changing monthly specials, delicious cocktails and mocktails, fancy sodas, various coffees, teas, and much more. The location on Neupfarrplatz is perfect! Sitting on the terrace (right on Neupfarrplatz) in the summer and watching the city life unfold is simply wonderful. Inside, the restaurant has an open yet cozy design, and there are areas that are well-suited for parties or groups, as well as for a girls' night in. Furthermore, it's wheelchair accessible, welcoming to diverse cultures, and simply a place where you feel truly at home. I look forward to being there every time, whether for brunch, a drink, or my workshops. Highly recommended! 🌿✨

I ordered a beef burger without onions. Unfortunately, the dish arrived cold, the patty had a strange taste, and to make things worse, it contained onions! When I called the waiter to point it out, he rudely denied it and insisted that I had ordered it with onions. He even told me to just remove them myself. I wasn’t trying to complain or ask for a replacement (which he never offered, by the way) — I only wanted to let him know there was a mistake. He could have handled the situation much more politely and professionally. I then asked to speak with the manager. She showed up with a serious, almost grumpy expression, as if she was preparing for an argument. When I reassured her that I didn’t want a replacement and that my concern was only about the waiter’s attitude, she admitted that he should have behaved more appropriately. But did she offer a replacement? No. Did she apologize or ask the waiter to do so? Also no. Instead, she simply checked whether I had managed to handle the situation myself by removing the onions. Throughout my interactions with both the waiter and the manager, I felt like I was the one trying to de-escalate and reassure them. It honestly felt as if I were on the staff’s side, which shows they really need additional training in customer service. As for the burger itself, it was disappointing — overpriced, cold, and not tasty at all. Even the color looked off; it didn’t seem like proper beef. Maybe it had too much fat, I’m not sure, but it definitely didn’t taste good. After that, I didn’t even get the chance to properly express how disappointed I was with the meal itself. In some restaurants these days in Germany, being treated decently feels like winning the lottery — even though it should be the bare minimum. And if you try to offer genuine or constructive feedback about the food’s taste or presentation, forget it — you’ll just be made to feel wrong for saying anything at all.

In my opinion, Alex in Regensburg isn't entirely convincing. I've been there several times, and it often takes a while to be served or for my plate to be cleared after eating. Today I had one of the bowls, which at almost €18 are rather pricey. I ordered the chicken bowl, and the waiter realized his mistake when he brought the plate. He asked again if I had ordered the falafel bowl (which I denied) and then took the plate back. Five minutes later, the correct order arrived, but one ingredient was missing—an ingredient that had always been included in the bowl a week earlier. I suspect they only swapped the main ingredient. Since I only had a short lunch break, I didn't complain immediately. There were three small pieces of chicken in the bowl, which isn't enough. Afterward, my plate wasn't cleared (despite the restaurant being empty and the waiters standing around). I then called a waitress, who finally took the bill. Since it took so long and I had to get back to work, I didn't say anything more. Alex has very high prices; I expect a higher overall standard from a chain of this size and at these prices.

What good is the best food, the best location, if you wait 10 minutes for a table assignment according to the instructions, while other guests walk past you left and right to the free tables? While looking for a waiter, we were sent back to the waiting sign, where, once again, no one bothered to attend to us. We gave up in frustration and left again.

When my friends and I go there for coffee (several times), the waiter is very unfriendly. He doesn't say hello, goodbye, thank you, or even acknowledge the tip. He's quite arrogant and unmotivated, with a "I don't care" attitude. He simply threw the receipt on the table and then left without saying goodbye. Mr. Keller wears glasses and has a beard. He also looks quite Arabic. We will invest our money elsewhere in the future.

I was there with my girlfriend and everything was fine until they brought me the wrong drink.

We've been there several times. The food and quality are deteriorating. Yesterday, Saturday, we were there for brunch just before 11:00 a.m. and most of the items were already empty, and they stayed that way until 12:00 p.m. We still had to pay full price. Neither the scrambled eggs nor the Nuremberg sausages were refilled. Even the jam jars were completely empty, and that was an hour before we arrived. A complete disappointment, and that for the exorbitant price. This was our last visit. Not recommended!

Delicious food, visually appealing. A pleasant ambiance. Very friendly and attentive staff. There are various seating options: at a regular table or a high-top table. There's also an outdoor area. There are no parking spaces in front of the restaurant; you have to park in the public parking garages. We'll be happy to return.

Not very pleasant... i went there on Saturday i got me a drink it was really nice but when i went there again today i ordered the same drink it was like half empty and didn't even get a straw..... i called the waitress to ask for a straw.... She said it very rudely "it doesn't come with a straw but if you want one i could get you one". I said it came with a straw on staturday tho she goes like " no it doesn't come with a straw ". It was really not nice, plus when we were ordering she was really rushing it like we were talking and she just kept trying to walk away. Really unprofessional, i said to my friend imagine coming here on a date and then this is what ruins your date🥴

Fun, good food and great service. Very eclectic menu, so something for everyone. We were with a group of 8 with 6 different meals and 2 starters, each different, but each well executed.

I was there one evening a few days ago. The restaurant used to be much better. Unfortunately, everything has deteriorated considerably: poorer quality, unfriendly service, and overall disappointing. A real shame!

Interesting menu with a different slant on old favorites

I was here on a Wednesday around 2:00 p.m. The restaurant was almost completely empty, but it still took a while to be served. I chose lasagna Bolognese, and it took almost half an hour to be served. I found the portion size too small for the price, and the walnuts were a bit unusual, but the flavor was quite good. A little more bread would have improved the dish. I also had to wait a bit longer to pay. They definitely need to improve the waiting time for guests to make it shorter.

Our waitress barely paid us any attention, and when we were paying, he asked me for a pen to sign the bill. When I told him I didn't have one, he left angrily. There was no tip either because the service was terrible. We weren't given any cutlery for our starter. We had to ask for it for the main course. We had to wait for drinks until the waitress finally noticed us, even though the coffee cup wasn't full. This all refers to the waitress who paid the bill. The person who assigned us the table was excellent.

We had lunch at Alex and had a wonderful time. The food (deluxe currywurst) was absolutely delicious, the plates were lovingly decorated, and the wait time was reasonable. I would also like to particularly highlight the staff, who were very friendly and attentive. I would happily rate this visit 5 out of 5.

I had a Tutti Frutti bowl which was sooo soo delicious and the presentation was aesthetically pleasing. The ice cream was so flavourful, refreshing and not too sweet which is perfect for my liking. I also drank latte macchiato that was also pretty good. The interior of the cafe is so dreamy and exquisite. The service was also really nice.
