ALEX Hamburg in Hamburg

Located on the Inner Alster Lake, with indoor and outdoor seating. A good menu, and fast, friendly service despite the large number of guests. We really enjoyed it.

Very good. Although it's a very busy restaurant, due to its great location, the pastrami sandwich was delicious, the cocktails very good, and the service very satisfactory! A very positive visit! Thank you.

We have been here twice now and both visits were absolutely convincing in terms of cuisine: every dish was very tasty and the drinks were delicious - simply perfect for eating and drinking. The view that you can enjoy from the terrace is particularly beautiful. Sitting outside is very pleasant, although the seat cushion covers could be washed - that would improve the overall impression. One point that was unfortunately noticed negatively: The toilets are in need of renovation and, in our opinion, should be checked and cleaned more frequently. Overall, a very nice place to stay, with great food and potential to improve even further.

Unfortunately the coffee crema that was served was only lukewarm. Since the waiter said we had already drank too much (only the first sip), he wouldn't bring hot coffee. For the peppery prices you should get a hot coffee. The reaction from the service was very unprofessional and very unfriendly. It was the third time we were served unpleasantly at ALEX on the Alster. Since all good things come in threes, we won't be going there anymore. Due to the high number of admissions, the rulers are probably becoming very arrogant.

The bowl was excellent, as was the view. The prices are expensive but okay for the location. The toilets smelled as strong of urine as in a train station. People! That's just not possible! And that's why only 1 star. Hui at the top… yuck at the bottom… it’s really a shame

A very nice hotel with different types of cuisines. Veg as well as Non Vegetarian options are available here. The restaurant is adjacent to Alter See which provides a scenic view while having your lunch/dinner.

It was super crowded! But the waiting time was quick. The location is great. Food and drink selection is great. Everything we ate was also very tasty. The waiting time for the food to arrive was completely fine. The staff was relatively neutral, friendliness could be a little better. Unfortunately, the washrooms were not recommended. Prices tend to be on the higher side.

We only had drinks, unfortunately the service staff seemed a bit stressed, but they were very friendly. A small error in the order was immediately apologized for and corrected upon request. It's a shame that ALEX is giving up this restaurant.

Very bad behavior towards customers, beyond criticism. We come all the way from Bremen with a guest from abroad, we wait in line for half an hour, they don't have a table available for 8 people, then they tell us to come in, then we see that there are places on the terrace, we are all smokers, our guest doesn't understand German, he wants to sit on the terrace, an employee comes and starts screaming in front of everyone "either in or out immediately" Horror, embarrassment.... We get up and go out, into another restaurant, where the service is very nice and the food was delicious

The ALEX on Jungfernstieg definitely has one of the most beautiful locations in Hamburg. The view over the Alster, especially at sunset, is spectacular. You sit in the pavilion, the light is reflected in the water, the hustle and bustle of the city all around you. For me, a place that almost looks too good to be true. Unfortunately, for the most part it remains a pretty thing. The food is OK but completely interchangeable. No signature, no sophistication, simply solid system catering without any ups or downs. If you're hungry, you'll be full, but nothing more. The drinks are completely different, creatively mixed, well balanced, here the bar knows what it is doing. The service, on the other hand, falls well short of what you would expect in a place like this. Inattentive, sometimes erratic, lacking charm and professionalism. In terms of price, everything is within reasonable limits if you take the location into account. It's not really worth the visit for the food. If you're smart, you'll come here for a drink in the golden light, enjoy the view and then move on to a place where it's not just the scenery that impresses.

We went there without a reservation and were lucky - we took advantage of the breakfast buffet. There was something for everyone and the staff was friendly. We'll be back!

The venue with a very beautiful view. The food is good, however a little expensive, seems the view is included to the cost The worst thing is that reservation is not possible. In a good weather it’s ok to wait to be seated, but when it’s rainy or cold you have to stay outside

The worst matcha latte. Hardly any matcha in there. It only tastes like sugar and milk.

Service is underground. Food and drink come separately and gradually from different staff. Or only upon request. And don't ask any questions! Stupid answer guaranteed. Although the store wasn't really full...

The buffet was almost never refilled, so the price was absolutely not justified. We were expected to tip. After we didn't do it, not a word was spoken to us and the bill was literally slammed on the table. Impossible behavior. Despite the nice atmosphere, we will never enter this store again!

Wonderfully located on the inner Alster. That alone makes a difference. The staff was super friendly and quite quick considering the restaurant was packed to capacity. We sat outside on the terrace and had a wonderful view of the Alster. So you could really enjoy your food and coffee.

After we tried the “Alex” at the harbor for breakfast, we also wanted to visit the “Alex” at the Jungfernstieg. Really great atmosphere with an enchanting view of the Alster. The food was prepared quickly and was very good. The selection of food is large and the cakes in the display case and other desserts look excellent. Staff very friendly. We'll definitely come back. Children's meals are also offered at a very reasonable price! A plus for families.

The staff who were responsible for the reception and table distribution on the evening of April 24th, 2025 were very unfriendly and disrespectful to us! When I asked him why he treated his guests like that, he sometimes became aggressive, especially in front of the children. Sorry, that doesn't work at all!

We were not allowed to push the tables and were moved three times. Only when we were about to go out was there a place where we could sit down. The drinks were expensive but good and tasty. Didn't come quickly, but didn't take too long either. When we tried to pay separately, the waiter rolled his eyes. We were there on a Wednesday lunchtime, just had a drink.

Service and ambience are great, but we can't recommend the food. But cocktails are really good. Local toilet cleaning should be organized better, because it looks/smells like a bhf toilet.

Unfortunately, with the Tutti Frutti Bowl there was only an old croissant in two pieces (probably left over from the breakfast buffet) and that was a self-evident deviation from the offer without comment

We were there for breakfast brunch on Good Friday and it was very lively and crowded, but that didn't particularly bother us. The selection is really extensive and apart from the small mini muffins, everything tasted good. It was also regularly replenished. The waitresses could be a little friendlier (but that doesn't apply to everyone).

Location is of course very cool, especially the outdoor terrace by the water! My schnitzel with mushroom sauce was okay, but unfortunately really nothing special and you had to look for the mushrooms. Burger looked good. Price okay for the location. Staff attentive and nice 😁

The three of us had dinner. Had schnitzel twice and pasta once. The food came relatively quickly. The two schnitzels were only lukewarm and almost cold. We then got two new schnitzels and they were hot too. Unfortunately, in my opinion, they are only pre-made, frozen products. Taste was: it goes like this. It's only worth it if you're very hungry and can't stand going anywhere else and because of the good view of the Inner Alster. That was the highlight - it wasn't the food and it won't be there again.

Very good food at a reasonable price was served without a long wait. The ice cream menu is particularly recommended. If you're lucky, you'll have a more wonderful view of the Alster and the passenger ships. Always happy to go again!

Hot food and cold drinks came relatively quickly. If you order coffee and cake (which comes from the same counter) I had to wait 10 minutes for the cake from the time I ordered. I was told twice that I had ordered the cake 10 minutes ago and when I paid I was apologized and charged in full, even though not even half of the cake was eaten. Waiters not exactly talkative. Sales promotion is zero. Apparently the boss is pulling his employees around the restaurant by the arm. It's more about quantity than quality. I think it's a shame that things have developed this way in the last few years.

One of the worst services I’ve experienced in a long time. We were attended by Dimitar Atanasov Alishanov, and the worst part was when it came time to pay he demanded a 10% tip. When we told him that was too much, he threw the check on the table. The food was average, neither bad nor good. The view is only available to about 10% of the restaurant, since it’s limited to the sides. I don’t recommend it. Sorry to say. I hope Dimitar learns some manners.

Great value for money, would love to come back

Solid lunch, which came quickly at a fair price and a nice view when sitting over the Alster.

We were there for breakfast, price/performance didn't match. As a first 17€ buffet without a hot drink, you hardly have a choice of salad (it was a mix of lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes, that's it). There are no signs, if it is wheat bread or roe or spelled, there is no sign for pork sausage or chicken. No fish like pure salmon or at least smoked trout or tuna. Canned crushed fruit!!! So if you like food quality, you don't have much to do with it.

Unfortunately, it was a very unpleasant experience: as soon as you arrived, you were sent from one table to the next several times, treated unkindly and ultimately even sent away. When I calmly asked to speak to each other a little more respectfully, I was treated harshly again - and then banned from the house. Of course there was a lot of activity, but that in no way justifies this disrespectful treatment of guests.

Very nice location on the water. Even if it is very quiet in the center of Hamburg on Saturday and Sunday mornings, it is still slowly but surely filling up with visitors. If you come here in the morning, you can also walk past a buffet and enjoy your own breakfast. A class location. I was there very early, but around noon it is quite full outside and inside. I think it would be wise to reserve a place.

A beautiful place right on the Alster. This is also reflected in the prices. Although there is plenty of space, Alex is completely overcrowded and always packed. But the food is good. So if you want good, expensive food with a great view, this is the place for you. However, the owner should take care of the sanitary facilities :)

We have been guests there again. On weekends it is advisable to always book a table for breakfast. Great offer on the buffet, great view of the Jungfernstieg.

Very friendly staff who make you feel the joy of their work. Great offer. Super delicious cake at a reasonable price (it's really worth it!) with a magnificent view of the Binnenalster or the Alsterhaus with its interesting audience.

Unfortunately, my visit to Alex was very disappointing. The location might be nice, but the experience was completely ruined by a clear mouse infestation. I actually saw a mouse running across the indoor area while I was there – absolutely unhygienic and unacceptable for any restaurant. I sincerely hope the health authorities take action soon. As of now, I definitely cannot recommend this place.

The six of us were able to eat in a secluded location at the large table without a reservation, the service and selection was great ;)

Best location but poor quality. We were there for breakfast at 10:30am and there were no rolls for half an hour. Just poorly organized. In addition, the buffet is disappointing in terms of the selection and how it is presented.

Just disappointing! Four of us – normal boys, mind you – wanted to go out to eat today and were coldly turned away. The only “reason”? We are a group of four men. Seriously? We weren't even properly greeted or asked if we had a reservation. It was immediately made clear to us: "Four boys? No, we don't want that here." What kind of dealing with potential guests is this? Pure discrimination! Just because we were a group of men, we were simply uninvited without doing anything. No chance, no conversation, just ignored and sent away. Such behavior is absolutely out of place in the catering industry. If you exclude people for no reason, you shouldn't be surprised about bad reviews. We will definitely never come back - and recommend that anyone who wants to be treated fairly give this shop a wide berth.

Alex Hamburg was decent, but nothing particularly memorable. The location is great with a nice view, and the atmosphere is pleasant, especially if you’re sitting outside. It can be crowded. Service was a bit slow, and it felt like the staff was overwhelmed even though it wasn’t super busy. Prices are on the higher side for what you get. It’s an okay spot if you’re nearby.

I had to kill some time before an appointment today. So without further ado, we went to Alex's and ordered a coffee with milk. It came incredibly quickly, was served by the young man with a friendly smile, was very nicely decorated and was actually one of the best lattes I've ever had. I found €5.60 to be very fair given THE quality and location. The current construction site reduces the feeling of well-being somewhat, but I will definitely come back!

On sunny days it is really nice on the terrace, which faces the Inner Alster! Pure sunshine. ☀️ Despite the many people having breakfast here, we were served very quickly and friendly. The lemonade was delicious. 🍹 Value for money totally fine. Would love to come back.

No, the table was covered, I wasn't finished eating yet, my son had salad with no taste, hardly any sauce, not recommended. My wife had ordered croque. It didn't taste good. I ate tortillas, not recommended

The spot right on the water is really unbeatable. We sat outside on the terrace and actually just wanted to have a coffee. But finally we decided on the breakfast buffet. Since we arrived a little later, we weren't able to fully enjoy the buffet, even though it was open until 12 p.m. There was everything you would expect from a breakfast buffet, but nothing that particularly surprised me. Unfortunately the waiter seemed a little stressed - maybe we were just unlucky with him. Overall, the price-performance ratio is okay. You probably can't get anything cheaper for this great spot.

Very pleasant for eating an ice cream or having a drink. Special mention to the basement which offers a view of the lake, it is very cozy.

Food delicious, drinks delicious, long drinks very generous. But rats everywhere! They say it's because of the construction site but according to your intern who sat with us and did her internship in front of the construction site, this is everyday life in the kitchen and in the aisles between the tables! The public order office should take a look into this!

There were two of us at 6 a.m. on a weekend and after a short wait we got a table on the upper floor. The service was friendly and very quick - despite the full restaurant. Many thanks also to Ledjo, who served us well and made us feel well looked after. The food was very good. I had falafel balls with hummus and hash browns with salmon (highly recommended), my girlfriend had the chicken salad. The price-performance ratio really surprised us positively (because of the great location). The tables by the window are of course great and recommended. We were lucky enough to be there at sunset. Clear recommendation.

Terrible service. The waiters are overwhelmed, passing customers off to each other, arguing, and visibly frustrated. If you can’t keep up, hire more staff—why should that be our problem? Such a shame because this place could have been great.

So we show up once a month or every 2 months for a whole day and spend our hours there. From year to year it has really slowed down. The penultimate time we were served moldy food (peppers from pan-fried vegetables) and still frozen chicken. This time the food blew us away, not because of the taste, but because of the price. I had a lasagne Bolognese - to me it tasted like the frozen lasagne from Edeka for significantly less money than the €17.70 I paid and the portion was similarly large. To make matters worse, we saw two mice at our place (at a distance from each other). We pointed this out to the service person the first time. She said she would tell her boss. The second time (about 10-15 minutes later) we pointed out to her again that we had seen another mouse, whether it was the same or a different one - I had no idea. She said again that she had already told her boss. Mhm - We asked for the bill and left. I didn't have a good feeling with mice in the building. Service staff was otherwise friendly. Food and ambience not good. The yellowed ceilings, the torn wallpaper and the cobwebs could be removed🤣

Subterranean thankless service. You wait forever and the waiters apparently can't speak German and gossip about guests in public! A no-go.

Very nicely located on the Binnenalster. The service was excellent. Fast and very nice service and the “suppliers” are also very nice. Everyone very helpful. Food as always very tasty. We always enjoy coming back when we visit Hamburg

We were at ALEX today and the food was ok. Waiters were a complete disaster from the start with pat answers. Then to pay even worse service is not there!!! The person with the tattoo with the angel flights on his neck had to pay 23€, gave 40€ and gave 5€ back. After you draw his attention to it, he gets cheeky and says what the problem is and throws the money and the receipt on the table and says bye! It's not possible to be there last time!

Normally this is my favorite restaurant but what happened to me yesterday left me speechless. My girlfriend and I thought we would have a nice evening and go out to dinner together. At first we were warmly welcomed, but then when we paid it was just disgusting. We paid by card and therefore we didn't leave a tip. The waiter seriously takes the right to insult us in his language and give us stupid looks. I'm just sad and disappointed that tipping is now mandatory. Normally I always give a tip, but what happened yesterday ruined everything. Once the employees brought the tip, it wasn't all a thank you

Nice atmosphere, interior design could have been better. There are very old tables. The waiters are fast, but they don't have time to take care of them. The number should increase a little. I can say that the prices are slightly above the ideal level. There is seating area inside and outside. I can say that it is advantageous to be by the river. There are heaters in the outdoor seating areas due to the winter season.

Unfortunately the food was only lukewarm. But the service and the view are awesome.

We went in to eat a hamburger, supposedly a bloated place, but we saw very few people eating at the table, people were drinking something. The place is just in a nice location, and it gets all the money from its location. I would say choose other places for hamburgers.

Great location with wonderful views--on 2 floors. Place has a young, vibrant atmosphere. Nice menu with a variety of options. I had a salmon "bowl" with lots of good ingredients. Our server was a delight and very helpful with our weak German.
