Al-dar in Hannover

I asked for a cup of tea three times in an hour, and it never arrived. As for the grilled meat platter, it cost 25 euros, honestly. Two 5cm postage-stamp-sized pieces of meat, tough as car tires, an 8cm piece of rancid chicken, and a 10cm quarter skewer of raw kebab. Experience teaches you that a high price and a high Google rating do not necessarily mean high quality, nor do they reflect the truth at all. In short: a restaurant that masters the art of raising expectations and then carefully breaking them! A glass of tea was drenched three times, but not even after a certain condition! The griller for 25 euros was very impressive: two small meat sticks, very hard, and a piece of chicken with about 8cm thick. Seltsamem Beigeschmack and in „Lamm-Kebab“, within 10 cm. There is nothing to worry about. This service is very important, and the price and value of money passed for this purpose. This location has a lot of potential, such as a moment's interest, and we will continue to do so. It's all over the place, so that's what's going on!😉

Very nice restaurant, the food was very tasty, menu “Journey through Syria” with many typical delicacies. The waitress explained all the dishes. Everyone had time to eat everything.

We ate at AlDar again after a long break. The ambiance, service, and food are excellent. It's also wonderful that vegetarians and vegans will find numerous dishes on the menu. We feel welcome as guests there.

The rooms are incredibly spacious, and the ambiance conveys an Arabian atmosphere without seeming artificial or over the top. The service is extremely friendly and attentive to the guests. We opted for the "Mazza II," the appetizer selection for two people—we were rewarded with a burst of flavors from the Arabian world 👍🏻 A wonderful selection of delicacies using plenty of fresh herbs and authentic spices. Nothing over-seasoned, everything deliciously balanced. Only the bread served could have been a bit fluffier; it was a bit "sticky" overall, and we've had better. Overall, a very positive restaurant experience from the moment we entered the restaurant to the moment we left 🫶👍🏻 A real recommendation - it's a shame we don't have anything like that here... We'd probably be regulars 😊

There's hardly any room for improvement here: The food was superbly seasoned, the portions were absolutely generous, and the service was incredibly fast and courteous. In summer, you can sit in the cozy garden, and the ambiance inside is also impressive. We'll definitely be back when we're in Hanover.

The lobby is acceptable, but the entrance is more like a barn, and the outdoor seating area is uncomfortable. The staff is rude and harsh, and when I asked the employee for the manager, he told me he was the manager and not at all polite. He was unfit to run what is supposedly a fine-dining establishment. I won't go into it any further, but I advise everyone, especially foreigners, not to visit.

We were there today with our two babies. The atmosphere is very cozy, the music pleasant, and the service simply top-notch: super friendly, attentive, and professional. Everything was impeccable hygiene, and the food was fantastic—beautifully presented and generous portions. Even though there were children there, the place is perfect for families without children, as the atmosphere ensures that the kids stay relaxed. Top, top, top!

The restaurant is beautiful and well-maintained, but the food unfortunately didn't quite live up to my expectations. The grilled dishes weren't cooked over charcoal, and the tabbouleh lacked the usual acidic flavor. The dishes seem to cater to other tastes, but don't clearly reflect traditional Syrian cuisine. Overall, the experience didn't quite live up to my expectations, especially since the prices were higher than expected relative to the quality of the food. On the positive side, however, the friendly service and pleasant atmosphere are worth mentioning.

Very attentive service, friendly, unobtrusive, but always present. The food was very good. Both inside and on the terrace, the atmosphere is pleasant. What needs to be changed is that salt belongs in the light mill and pepper in the dark one. This makes it easier for guests to identify the right ingredients. Otherwise, keep it up.

We came here for dinner with a group of 12 at 7:30pm, and had reserved a long table. The place isn’t very spacious, and the food took quite a while to be served. While it is halal (which was important for one of our guests), the food itself wasn’t particularly impressive and personally found the lamb tasted more like beef. The environment can get noisy, though still manageable for conversation. Overall, an okay experience.

We've been to Al-Dar several times and can recommend it without reservation. After treating ourselves to the set "Journey to Syria" menu the last few times, we decided to create our own journey this time. We sampled various drinks and selected various appetizers (cold and hot) such as Fatoush, Homers, Lebneh, or Sambusil Jibne. Because we were in the mood (and not because we were that hungry), we each had a main course. And what can I say, both the grilled platter and the lamb rump with spinach were outstanding. Superbly seasoned, tender, and it looked so delicious that we didn't even get a chance to take a photo because we had to dive right in. (At least we thought of that with the appetizers.) Due to the high temperatures, we sat in the rather crowded courtyard. We didn't always manage to get the waiter's attention quickly, but our orders for food and drinks were promptly processed and brought to us. Thank you for the truly generous hospitality. We'd be happy to come back, whether for pleasure or business, because so far everyone has found something tasty here.

The atmosphere and the staff were good. But unfortunately, we were disappointed with the food today! The meat was lukewarm and dry. Our salad wasn't fresh. We were also surprised that our food was ready after about five minutes.

Sigh. Al Dar was once one of my absolute favorite restaurants. Really great food, solid service – the wine: unfortunately, always abysmal. I had decided to celebrate my partner's birthday there – with food from his homeland. On my last visit, he was thrilled with how authentic it tasted. Bringing your own wine and paying corkage? No way. If you want wine, you're forced to choose from a selection of absurdly overpriced, questionable Lebanese wines. There's no polite way to describe it – the selection is simply awful. We seriously considered canceling the reservation, but then decided to just have a beer and open good bottles elsewhere later. The beer? Even by Greek standards – and that's saying something – completely undrinkable. The service has deteriorated significantly: chaotic, inattentive, at times intrusive. Which would be okay if I were eating at the kebab shop around the corner – with corresponding prices. But not here. The food? Still okay, but nowhere near what it used to be. Overexpansion? I've seen it many times – and it's always sad when greed eats away at quality. When we politely expressed our concerns about the discrepancy between the food and drinks menu, we were dismissed – with the tone of a host who invited us to a free meal at his grandmother's and tolerates no criticism. Oh well. Would I come back? Most likely not. After this experience, my time and money are too precious. I'd rather spend a few euros more and go to one of the really good fine-dining restaurants in Hanover – which are often not that much more expensive, but deliver what they promise. Or if you're looking for something oriental: a trip to Hamburg. There are still plenty of real alternatives there.

We ate here for the first time today and were thoroughly impressed. Without having made a reservation, we were given an outdoor table. The staff was very friendly and fond of children. We had a potato wrap for our son – very tasty. We adults embarked on a taste journey through Syria. A very tasty appetizer platter included various salads, dips with flatbread, and falafel. The various types of meat in the main course were all cooked to perfection. It was served with delicious rice, a vegetable garnish, and flatbread. The portions were all very large, and we couldn't quite finish them. They kindly packed up the leftovers for us. Our restaurant visit rounded off with a delicious dessert with sweet treats, ice cream, and fruit. Our son even got a free scoop of ice cream. The Syrian tea and homemade lemon-mint lemonade provided the necessary refreshment in between meals. If we're in the area, we'll definitely come back.

I had reserved a table and wanted to celebrate my birthday with you. But unfortunately, the waiter left my birthday cake and its box on the table. We were all shocked 🤯 Plus, the drinks were very warm and inedible.

The restaurant used to be really good a long time ago. But when the staff loudly and indiscreetly discusses it in front of the guests, saying it's a disgrace that a guest left a small tip, I find that very inhospitable. The quality of the food has also declined considerably. It's a shame our family no longer goes to this restaurant.

The food was bad, overpriced and very small portions with overcooked dry chicken and undercooked meat. The salads were stale. The only relatively acceptable food was the hummus and the labneh. Uncooperative and impolite staff trying to gaslight us into saying the food is good. The dish was "A Trip to Syria", 0/10 would not recommend.

A Hanover institution for many years. The variety of Mazza is, of course, unparalleled. It's always a taste experience. Prices remain stable. However, perhaps it's time for a few variations and new ideas, as the menu has been the same since the beginning.

I was a bit skeptical at first, as I hadn't experienced Syrian cuisine before. We ordered appetizers, a main course, and dessert. Everything was delicious and well-prepared. I will definitely visit Al-dar again the next time I visit a restaurant. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

We had a great dinner with four people. We were there quite early, luckily, as it got really busy later on. We had the three-course "Journey Through Syria" menu. It was fantastic, with the starters being the highlight. The service was very friendly and welcoming. Since it was already quite warm, we were able to sit outside in the lovingly decorated courtyard. We paid just under €200 for four people (including one child) (menu for three people, child's main course, aperitif, water, lemonade, and mocha), and it was definitely worth it. The homemade lemon-mint lemonade was a refreshing treat in these temperatures and incredibly delicious. We'll be back and eat our way through the wonderful starters until we burst.

The food tastes nice but I have it 3 stars because of the size of the portions (small), given the prices. Several of us ordered a set-menu with appetizer, main course and desert. I think we didn’t get enough food for what we paid. Also: The food was brought to the table in large platters for 4 people to share. The staff didn’t keep track of who ordered what, the platters were placed in the middle of the table as if they were for all to share, so, inevitably appetizers and dessert ordered were shared by everyone at the table, not just the people who had ordered the set menu. The staff is friendly.

The service was good and friendly. The falafel is really delicious there. But they are served on a bed of completely unseasoned and undressed lettuce. There is also no menage at the table. I also had a completely unseasoned tabbouleh and was expecting more couscous in it. The dumplings filled with cheese were not in a pastry shell as you would expect from Turkish börek, but in a very firm dough, not crispy at all. To be honest, I found the food, which has its price, to be just okay. The ambience of the restaurant is nice, but also very, very loud when it is full. There is a beautiful outdoor area in the middle of the city that looks very inviting. I was there for the second time. The first time I shared mixed “Journey through Syria” starters with other guests. This meal was better than my current visit.

For me it has been one of the best restaurants in Hanover for years. The food is high quality, the atmosphere is good. When there's stress because of a full house, there's a bit of a problem here. But that doesn't bother you. Be sure to reserve in advance!

Very nice restaurant with fast and attentive service. The mezze sharing platter is still amazing. I was last here about 9 years ago, and I was impressed again.

Atmosphere is perfect and Service is good. Unfortunately, the food didn't even meet my minimum expectations. I ordered a mixed grill and I think an electric grill was used instead of charcoal, and the amount of meat served was very small compared to the prices. In short, you go there to spend some time in a quiet and nice place, but not to eat.

The place was full to the brim with different groups, we were one of them. Staff overloaded. What was previously ordered came, extra requests, such as a non-alcoholic beer, took forever or didn't come at all. Food was very tasty and more than enough. Wine was continually replenished and the water was always refilled.

The Syrian restaurant Al-Dar near the main train station is a beautifully designed restaurant with oriental mosaics and atmospheric light displays. The atmosphere is pleasant, even if the restaurant is often very full and therefore occasionally a bit noisy. The service is friendly and attentive, although there can be longer waiting times when the restaurant is at full capacity. The menu offers a wide selection of Syrian specialties, including a large appetizer platter with various dips, falafel, kibbeh and freshly baked flatbread. The portions are generous - in our case, a plate for two people was easily enough for three. I was particularly impressed by the lamb plate. The meat was excellently seasoned and perfectly fried, the rice served with it was prepared Syrian style with small mini noodles and was incredibly aromatic. The saffron sauce and Syrian aioli were a wonderful addition, along with baked bread, a kind of lahmacun and fresh parsley salad. The portion was so big that we had to have the rest packed up. The drinks menu is also very well put together. The restaurant offers an excellent selection of wines, which my companions really liked. For me personally, the homemade lemonades and Syrian teas were a nice alternative. The prices at Al-Dar are high. A starter plate costs 24.90 euros per person, the lamb plate was 24.90 euros. Given the quality of the food, this is justified, but you should be aware that dinner here is a little more expensive. Overall, Al-Dar offers a wonderful taste experience with high quality food, a nice ambience and a large selection of drinks. If you don't mind the slightly higher prices and possible waiting times, you will be able to enjoy a great Syrian meal here. A clear recommendation for lovers of oriental cuisine!

Despite having a reservation, we were turned down at the door. The response to our questions from the service staff was unseemly and inappropriate. For him, the customer is no longer king and waiting times are normal despite reservations. If the service setting does not change, I can only advise against a visit. I am very, very disappointed and have the feeling that the service and therefore also the owner are fed up and think they can take advantage of something like this.

Had dinner there yesterday. The waiter was pretending to be nice but I found the service over all bad! with respect t to the food reviews I'm surprised actually to see the 4.9 rate! I come from the middle east and I can easily judge the food. To start with.. I ordered pomegranate juice and instead I was served with what tasted like grape just! The waiter insisted that they don't have grape juice and what they served was pomegranate juice!. The waiter was nit happy when we advised that we will not be ordering appitizers. I ordered the mixed grill dish.. I explicitly asked them to cook the meet well done. Still the meat was medium rare! Waiter another 15 minutes the medium rare peice was slightly better and my platter was the same and the food was cold!!!. The food quality is below average I paid 29€ for the plate and had a small hair on it. You can get better quality Syrian food for half of this price and much friendly service in other restaurants. Bottom line.. not authentic Syrian food. Food quality is below average. Portions are small. Service is bad. The atmosphere is loud. Never back there again

The mezze as a starter tastes excellent, only fresh bread would have rounded off the experience. The main courses are simply presented but full of intense flavors and spices. The homemade ice cream and Syrian desserts top it all off. Clear recommendation for anyone who wants to enjoy Syrian cuisine in Hanover!

I also observed that there was a noticeable difference in service. We six girls (some chic, some casual) were also treated a bit condescendingly by the waiter, in contrast to the table with the men in suits next door. The decor is beautiful, but it was unpleasantly loud and hectic. The starters were indescribably delicious but at €80 for two plates the price was very exaggerated. The vegetarian food was okay but poorly prepared. The fried dough was too dry and tough, the filling was not spicy but too salty. However, my friend's lamb was very well seasoned. I think the meat dishes more than live up to Al Dar's reputation. It was a wonderful evening, but that was mainly due to the company of my girls and the overpriced but exceptionally tasty starters. The homemade lemonade is highly recommended. The price-performance ratio is also right here.
