Unfortunately, really extremely long waiting times. We waited over 40 minutes for our drink and then another long wait for the food. The food was okay, but overall not so good that you should wait over 1.5 hours for it. Overall therefore not recommended.

We had a really great evening, the food was outstanding, the service was really friendly and all in all it was just right. I will definitely come back and can recommend the restaurant without reservation!

We waited a long time for our drink. The meal also took a very long time. But it was worth it, it was very tasty. The man who brought us the drinks was super nice and made us feel really comfortable. Not so much when it comes to eating. Still recommended. Especially the mixed plate. Prices fair! :)

Very tasty food, especially very well seasoned. The service is also very friendly. As a small suggestion for improvement: there is always a little too little rice and couscous on the plate, for example if you order for two. I don't eat a lot and it's a bit too little for me. You can definitely get a second helping, but it would be great if the waitress briefly mentioned that you are welcome to get a second helping. Otherwise everything was great 😊

We chose to eat at the Abessina because everyone eating there looked so happy and content. Even though it was early it was more than half full. Clearly most people were regulars. We were warmly welcomed. The food was wonderful. We chose the meal for 2 people. It was all freshly cooked, not at all heavy and left us feeling satisfied.

We were here for the first time, it was very tasty and the price was completely okay. The nice operator explained to us exactly how we could eat without cutlery, and it actually went well. The restaurant has been around for 11 years. Hopefully it will continue for a long time, good luck!

The food is delicious and the service is nice. But it took a bit longer to get the meal and the price is a bit expensive.

A hidden gem, located in the center of Goettingen. Wide variety of tasty dishes for every taste. Meaty or vegan, mild or spicy: you desire it--they have it. Everything we tried was delicious. It is family-owned and the staff is very friendly. Tends to be quiet during the week, so it is an ideal place for a mid-week dining out, whether it is a business meal or a date;).

Very nice staff. Unfortunately, extremely long waiting times. We had a mixed platter for 5 people. The food itself was tasty, but not much for 5 people. The individual dishes could have been more - 2 of the dishes were soup with hardly any addition. And the side dishes could have been more - 1/2 injera per person, 1 rice plate and a couscous plate.

Sehr zuvorkommendes Personal. Interessantes Palm Bier aus der Kalebasse getrunken. Sowohl Rindfleisch- als auch vegane Auswahl und Samosas als Vorspeise sehr lecker. Manches angenehm scharf. Und alles ging normal schnell, keine langen Wartezeiten obwohl das Restaurant gut besucht war.

Wir waren eine Gruppe von 7 Personen...und hatten riesigen Spaß mit dem Servicepersonal und als Gruppe selbst. Das Essen war wundervoll, alle bekamen gleichzeitig etwas leckeres serviert und Wünsche (Getränke oder zusätzliche Beilagen) wurden sofort berücksichtigt. Ein lustiger Abend bei sehr gutem Essen...da passte einfach alles!

One of my favorite restaurants in Göttingen. The food is excellent, you can't go wrong with any of the options. In general I'm not a fan of vegan food but I love the vegan options here. The staff is super friendly.

Very extensive range of spices, i.e. many different tastes. Everyone bit a different direction. I can only recommend a mixed platter with different dishes. Will definitely go again.

Small but fine restaurant with delicious Ethiopian/Eritrean dishes, where you can also find a good selection of dishes if you are on a vegetarian/vegan diet. The service is extremely courteous and friendly, but sometimes you have to wait a little. The ambience is attractive and thematically appropriate, but quite simple. Overall, we had a great evening at Abyssina with very tasty food - we will definitely be back soon!

Very disappointing! We had reserved in advance for 8 people and then still waited 50 (!) minutes until the drinks arrived. Mind you: without glasses, because they were all in use, so we had to wait a while until everyone had a glass. In addition, instead of King Ludwigsburger Weizen, Paulaner Weizen was poured and when asked, they still claimed that it was König Ludwigsburger (we had a look into the counter and saw that the Weizen came from the Paulaner bottle - and then stood for 15 minutes before it was brought to the table ). It took another 40 minutes to eat - some of the plates were still dishwasher warm. If I run a restaurant, I should keep in mind that I have enough dishes to be able to serve something to all the guests even on a Saturday evening when the restaurant is full. The food itself was tasty, although the side dishes were very stingy (a dollop of salad, half a flatbread of injera bread). Ambiance is also nice, but nothing more. Only worth a visit if you're not hungry.

African dishes. Many vegetarian dishes. We recommend a mixed platter with meat dishes and vegetarian dishes, for example. B. 4 people. So there is something for every taste.

Great atmosphere, very nice staff, a good menu that also describes the food. You should study them because if it says “spicy” then it is! But the food is great and plentiful. An Erlenbis! And where can you get banana beer to drink from a calabash bowl? Try out! And all at competitive, realistic prices. WE WILL BE BACK.

Sehr angenehmes Restaurant! Wir hatten Glück und haben einen Tisch bekommen, das Lokal war rappelvoll. Sehr nette Bewirtung durch den Chef, sehr leckeres Essen, auch wenn mal was länger gedauert hat, weil es halt auch komplett voll war - uns hat alles sehr gut gefallen und wir kommen bestimmt wieder. Die veganen "Platten" sowie die mit Fleisch waren wie vorgeschlagen wunderbar.

A very good selection of Ethiopian/Eritrean dishes. Suitable for vegans. The five of us ate a vegan platter for five people and a pot of lamb. Rice and couscous are served with it and everyone gets half an injera flatbread, and there is also a bit of salad on the plate. The dju dju is served in the half coconut or calabash. The taste was really good, slight criticism of the chickpeas (a bit bland), the kale was quite spicy, the meat was a bit too tough. But complaints at a high level. If you're a bit stingy with half a piece of Injera, you can reorder it for €1.50 per piece. African ambience, a successful tree dummy in the middle, located in traditional half-timbering, that's nice. However, the slightly cool draft in the windows and the seating that was too narrow bothered us. But there is a really significant point deduction for the excessively long waiting time, 45 minutes until the drinks came, 1 hour 20 minutes until the food is just too long, even when the restaurant is full, the staff was very nice, apologized at the end that it was so long today It took a long time, but waiting times like that (despite asking) you have to at least give out a schnapps on the house or offer something to the customers. The injera we ordered also came almost as soon as we were finished. Overall, a solid to good African restaurant, but we had to at least have a lot of patience that evening.

Wasn't there, but pictures are enough... rice???? This is not Ethiopian cuisine. I'm habesha Ethiopian, rice with injera may be a thing in Eritrea but not here. If you want authentic food then not here.

A culinary adventure that appealed to all the senses. The inviting atmosphere with the warm hospitality of the staff created an unforgettable setting. The diverse selection of dishes took me on a journey through aromatic spices and authentic flavors. Particularly impressive was the injera, a traditional Ethiopian flatbread that was perfectly prepared and served as the perfect accompaniment to the various dishes. The presentation of the dishes was attractive and the portions were generous. An absolute must for connoisseurs looking for an authentic and tasty experience. Just legendary!

The food is delicious, although it only arrived at the table lukewarm. With the Cold plates and co then get cold pretty quickly. The sample plate was a bit small in terms of quantity. at least compared to what I know from other African restaurants in terms of price/performance ratio Service a bit slow and carefree, but super friendly Atmosphere cool and the light is reminiscent of a hospital.

Superleckeres Essen. Afrikanisch anmutendes Interieur. Slow Food. Leider auch insofern, dass es lange dauern kann bis das Essen kommt. Nicht ausgehungert hingehen! Aber wenn es dann kommt...Hmmmh!

Einfach ein ausergewöhnlich, tolles Erlebnis! Kulinarisch wirklich ein Highlight und immer lecker! Personal ist immer freundlich nur manchmal etwas unterbesetzt... Immer wieder schön und klare Empfehlung.

Das Essen war super und der Service sehr freundlich. Ich kann das Restaurant nur wärmstens empfehlen.

Das war wirklich eine tolle Entdeckung. Wir haben sehr gut und günstig gegessen. Am besten schmeckte uns das Gericht mit Grünkohl, aber am besten probiert man sich mit einer gemischten Platte einmal durch. Es dauert alles etwas länger, aber das Warten lohnt sich.

The vegetarian shared platter tasted good and was definitely plenty of food. The service was great. Only surprise at the end was that we couldn’t pay with Visa nor Mastercard. So be prepared to bring cash or some german EC (?) card.

I was waiting to try the food for a while and finally it opened again. First, this is an expensive place. The portion size is very small. You can get the same taste in any other Indian restaurant. The attendant speaks English which is really nice thing. We have had a mix platter with 4 veg and 1 nonveg dish. The national beef dish was really nice and all the veg options were also good. I was expecting that we will get additional free breads with the platter. However, you have to pay 1 euro for another bread. The rice was really good. The service is very slow and food was not hot.

Ja, man muss sich darauf einstellen, dass alles etwas länger dauert. Aber: das Warten lohnt sich definitiv!! Am besten bei der Bestellung gleich angeben, dass man „traditionell“ essen möchte. Man bekommt dann keinen Reis und keinen Couscous/Reis, sondern ausschließlich Injera, das typische Brot. Damit schmeckt es nämlich am allerbesten und man kann bequem mit den Fingern essen. Zu empfehlen ist die gemischte Platte, damit man von allen probieren kann. Jedes einzelne Gericht war sehr lecker und die Bedienung wirklich sehr zuvorkommend und hat alles sympathisch erklärt. Wir kommen unter Garantie wieder! Danke für das leckere Essen und Restaurant

Zeer vriendelijk personeel, ze deden alles wat we vroegen, erg lekkere vruchtensapjes. Eten was echt heerlijk, niet lang hoeven wachten. Goede prijs kwaliteit verhouding. Nette toiletten en vriendelijk personeel.

Das Essen war sehr lecker aber etwas zu wenig. Außerdem kam das Essen erst nach über 1 Stunde und der Service war sehr schlecht. Getränke kamen nicht rechtzeitig zum Essen und die Eiswürfel wurden ins falsche Glas gemacht. Auf Nachfrage dauerte es über 10 Minuten neue Eiswürfel zu bekommen. Sehr schade, das Essen war lecker aber der Service langsam und schlecht (nicht gut zugehört). Auch wichtig zu erwähnen: Getränke waren bei warmen Wetter nicht wirklich kalt. Rotwein nicht richtig temperiert und Bier nicht wirklich Kühlschrankkalt.

Auch mit dem Preis waren wir sehr zufrieden - wenn man überlegt wie viel Lebensmittel derzeit kosten, fand ich absolut angemessen (gut 40 für zwei Personen inkl. Getränk). Das Personal war herzlich, freundlich und lustig - wir kommen sehr gerne wieder 🤗

Die Bedienung ist freundlich. Leider hat es von der Bestellung bis zum Servieren lange (über eine Stunde) gedauert ... Die Größe der Speisen (in Tonkrügen) könnte reichlicher sein ... Es war mal was anderes ...

I went to this restaurant because of the many vegan options they offer. It was definitely a good choice. The food was delicious and the staff very friendly. Unfortunately they didn't have any vegan dessert but they offered a mango alcoholfree shot which was very good. I would only suggest to have a vegan option also for the dessert.

We (finally) visited here for the first time and the food and drink was delicious. We had the vegan platter after samosas and hummus. Everything had a distinctive flavour and each part of the meal was very enjoyable. The staff explained what each dish was and explained the flavour profiles of our Dju Dju Beer. Highly recommended.
