A superbly equipped eel smokehouse. The fish was very tasty. The cake slices were also amazing. Very friendly staff, and the prices were very reasonable.

There were fish bones in the potato salad. But we didn't have any fish!? We only ordered potato salad separately. I don't want to know which previous guest made it....

I've never eaten so badly for this price. What a shame.

Highly recommended: fresh smoked eel and trout! Located directly on Lake Dümmer, it also houses a restaurant, serving homemade ice cream, cakes, and delicious dishes. A great place for a day trip. We were on a bike ride around the lake and discovered the smokehouse.

I came from Osnabruck especially to eat fish. My friends recommended the place. They were right, excellent fish, fresh, served with salad. You can also eat dessert, ice cream there. I recommend it

I recommend the smoked fish platter. Great flavor, plenty of fish, including eel, trout, butterfish, smoked salmon, smoked salmon, and halibut. Or the roasted trout fillet with blueberry cream. Delicious! So go for it.

I waited in line for ice cream for 15 minutes, and even though there's a card reader and no sign or anything like that, I wasn't allowed to pay with it for less than €15(!). Just write it down somewhere or calculate the few percent you have to pay into your price, like you do with staff prices, etc. My friends got fish sandwiches (under €15), and miraculously, you could pay with a card...

We stopped here on our bike tour and ate ice cream. The ice cream was delicious! 😋😋😋 The selection was huge and the service was friendly despite the busy times! A scoop of ice cream costs €1.60 and is a nice size! Great value for money in 2025! Highly recommended!

So far, we've had delicious breakfasts, fine fish dishes, ice cream... The service is excellent, and the lake is within sight. We felt like we were on the famous German island. 😉 We'd love to come back.

This eel and trout smokehouse is definitely recommended. Of course, they have many more varieties of fish. I think I've tried them all and can say that every single one is incredibly delicious. I always come all the way from the Tecklenburger Land region just to eat fish there. And if you need dessert, there's an ice cream parlor next door. Service is also good and super friendly! During the holidays, you might not be able to get a table there. I definitely recommend it 👍

Great food at reasonable prices. We really liked it.

I had ordered a strawberry cup with extra varieties (strawberry, stracciatella, cookie) and specifically asked for it to be taken away (to-go). Initially I was reassured that this wasn't a problem - but then everything ended up on a plate. After I pointed this out to the staff, my request was met with annoyance, including eye rolling. The cup was carelessly refilled and again overloaded with cream and sauce - the result: pure soup. Unfortunately, the taste of the ice cream was no longer convincing, which is a shame, especially since the order form clearly stated “to take away”. A lovely dessert was ruined by poor execution and little commitment to service. Definitely needs improvement!

Phew, there were two of us with RVs on site. We ate there three times, once at the table, then twice for the hand. OK result disappointed! Salmon with basil the pasta (tagliatelle) was old and the ends stuck together and were hard. The salmon was great. €23.50 Then fried fish well felt from Bofrost. Plus the service was pretty unfriendly OK Monday. Because the demand for the sauces for the fried fish was already too much. Remo or garlic. I then had to answer that myself. Because she either didn't understand us or doesn't know herself. (Conjectures & Judgments) The only thing that could give us back a few points was the ice cream! That was a bomb ⚓ Fresh, delicious varieties, real cream (no spray stuff) Conclusion There is also a fish stall next to it. Price-performance honest and filling. Nice service and a pleasant atmosphere that leaves you with a noticeable enjoyment of your meal! A little more secret than the restaurant.

We are often there and happy to be there! The food tastes very good! The service is generally friendly. The breakfast buffet on the weekend is bombastic! Something special for fish lovers 👍 The cakes, cakes and especially the ice cream 🍧 also taste really good!!! I was here on March 26, 2025. I ordered redfish fillet. The service was nice. The ambience is ok. The food was served in a reasonable time. But, the redfish fillet smelled strongly of fish and the taste was the same. It tasted muddy. This is always a sign of heavily seasoned fish that should no longer be served in a seafood restaurant. Fried fish actually no longer smells strongly of fish, old fish stinks. The salad was ok. The fish and the roasted potatoes would have liked to have been in the pan for a few more minutes. The restaurant was only half full, there was enough time. I was here once last fall and the fish wasn't completely fried and the roasted potatoes were better too. It's a shame, I was really looking forward to the redfish. Edit April 18, 2025: Today, Good Friday, I had redfish fillet at my house. My children cooked for me. I bought the fish at the fish cart yesterday. The fried fish no longer smelled like fish. The fish didn't taste oily either. Everything was perfect. I liked it much better than at Hoffmann's. I'm reducing my review to 2 stars, which is still too high. Just because of the nice service. Edit April 28, 2025: There is a response from the owner. This is in English. I can only read the beginning, the end is not accessible. The owner of course confirms that his goods are always fresh.

You had to get the food yourself.

Service was super fast and friendly, the dining room was nicely furnished and the toilets were very clean. The fried fish and fries were from the freezer, hence the poor rating on this point; other dishes are freshly prepared and therefore better.

All of our wishes were taken into account, even though we arrived at a completely inappropriate time and had not made a reservation as a group of 5 people. Breakfast, in our case the avocado sandwich, is always highly recommended!

Heard a lot of good things, unfortunately the service employee at the counter was probably quite overwhelmed today and therefore in a bad mood. What a shame!

Luckily we reserved a table in advance. However, by the time we were able to place our drinks and food orders, guests who arrived after us had already received their food. When we asked if we could order, we were increasingly told “yes, right away”. At one dish we wanted to know what exactly was on the plate, and they said "the one in the picture". Well... Then unfortunately the wrong dish arrived. But the food was really delicious. We then reminded us several times about the payment process and asked for a separate invoice. The payment process then looked like this: we had to pay everything together and we were then told “one card is enough”. In order to separate the bill later, we then asked for an invoice. Answer "No, there isn't. You couldn't print the process. We could take a menu with us" Conclusion - very tasty food but the service definitely needs improvement.

You can eat very tasty fish there.

After an hour of waiting (when we asked, we were told that only a 50-person tour group was now being served) I received the wafer-thin, dry and tough end of a cod. This had nothing in common with the soft, aromatic fillet of cod. Disappointing and almost a disgrace when you look at the price. My wife's redfish fillet was significantly better. I guess I was unlucky. Still not a recommendation!

It tasted absolutely delicious. A fantastic selection of fresh fish, smoked goods, and rolls! The food was superbly seasoned 👍 The interior design is fantastic, especially the staircase leading up to the restrooms is breathtaking! Accessible restrooms are available on the ground floor! Unfortunately, there are limited seating options—but in bad weather, indoors, and on a Sunday lunchtime, it's best to use them.

Best fish sandwich and ice cream

After a bike ride I stopped in and bought 2 fish sandwiches, All and Trout. Normal roll and the respective fish. Nothing else, not a leaf of lettuce. The fish was well topped but dry, not fresh. Price over €4. Next time I'll stop for the fish sandwiches.

We ordered various fish sandwiches. They tasted very good. I wouldn't call the prices cheap, but they were okay. For dessert, we each had two scoops of ice cream. The ice cream was top-notch. Probably the best I've ever had. I'd happily go back.

The left-hand side of the restaurant was moderately busy, with most tables reserved. The right-hand side was less busy, with a few tables free. We weren't allowed to enter because dogs weren't allowed in that area. It's just the way it is, which is a shame, since the restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere. Oh well, we'll just go somewhere else.🙈🙈🙈🙈

We were at your place 1.5 hours before closing time - even though we were regular customers, we didn't get any more coffee or dessert. At that time you were still open for 1 hour. We were there for the breakfast buffet with a group of 9 people. The selection and quality of the food was excellent. Everyone will find something here and the fish is really great. The service, in our case a very young woman, was very "taciturn" - no "hello" and no "goodbye" - maybe a little "improvement" here. Unfortunately, when it comes to the ambience, the restaurant is so good and therefore very busy, the coziness suffers somewhat. It was very crowded and since we sat further back, the delicacies were quickly sold out before we had the chance to grab them. It was always topped up, but unfortunately those sitting close were always first. Basically we were very satisfied, a decent price-performance ratio.

We come to Aal-Hoffmann from Münster every 2-3 months. This is the best fish we've ever eaten. Especially the eel and the char. But the fried herring is also sensational. Always my pleasure.

Unfortunately, it is very tight at the entrance, especially if you are a wheelchair user, as the restaurant is always very busy. The breakfast was very good, but one of the waitresses was very annoyed with the children because they were too loud in the play area (if banging is too loud, I don't have a workbench in the play area). In addition, €9 is a lot of money for children aged 3 and over who hardly eat anything. We were also not told when we booked a table in advance that the table had to be vacated again from 12 p.m. Then we were told by an older waitress that we had to leave the table, but unfortunately the tone in which she said it was not right!!! It's a real shame, the younger service staff were very nice!
