Today we had delicious tagliatelle with steak strips. The taste was excellent. Friendly hosts. Quiet, secluded location in the forest.

We use regional products, especially from our butcher shop in Rodalben...Metzgerei Hirtle. Our food was simply delicious, but unfortunately, there are sometimes long waits. 😅

I have to say, we've been there many times and are totally satisfied. The food we've had so far has been excellent, and Viktoria, the owner, is very personable and friendly. We'll definitely go back. The area is very beautiful and quiet, and the prices are right, too. Keep it up!

Went there again today. Delicious schnitzel, great salad. Nice seating, delicious daily special.

The inside lives up to its promise. There's smoking in the lobby, which can ruin your appetite. I suspect the Cordon Bleu was frozen, as it was rectangular, and the spaetzle wasn't hand-scraped either.

After the change of ownership, it's not nearly as good as before. Unfriendly and overwhelmed service and 2 people in our group complained of nausea after lunch there. I didn't have any complaints of this kind myself, but I'm no longer convinced by the location. The taste of the food has deteriorated considerably and the prices are in no way justified. And yes, I saw people there with dubious T-shirts that you could actually recognize and address as a restaurateur.

Simple restaurant, but that doesn't detract from the quality of the food. The steak was perfectly English, the croquettes were al dente. The cream schnitzel with spaetzle was also great in terms of taste. Very friendly staff.👍

Unfortunately I can't rate the food because after waiting 2 hours I still didn't have my food and then got my money back.

Previously downhill path in PS - now for the first time here in Rodalben. I am a very critical guest and pay particular attention to whether quality is used in the kitchen. For me, convenience products have no place in a restaurant - and this is implemented in an exemplary manner here! Every dish, whether goulash, schnitzel, sauerbraten, puree or sauces, was 100% fresh and homemade. The price-performance ratio is simply outstanding for the quality offered. A small point of criticism: the portion of the green side salad was very generous for €2.50, but the sauce on the green salad was a little too generous - for everyone at the table. (I said yes, I'm critical. ;)) What you should know: The waiting time is a little longer. Unfortunately, our table of six people couldn't eat at the same time, two dishes arrived about ten minutes later. Even though it wasn't particularly crowded. Nevertheless: I would rather wait a little longer and get honest, fresh cuisine at a great price than be served carelessly prepared convenience dishes. In addition, the warm tenant who runs this restaurant with passion. We'll definitely be back!

Friendly service, hearty food, large portions.

At the next table sat a Nazi in a Wehrmacht T-shirt. Despite low occupancy there are huge waiting times of over an hour. The orders were delivered incorrectly, the steak was raw, there were things on the bill that we hadn't ordered. A complete disaster. So much potential, but everything was wasted. That's it, never again.

Simple restaurant in the middle of the forest. We were standing next door at the RV park. Friendly service, food very tasty, prices absolutely okay. We had cordon bleu and pepper cream schnitzel with fries. Both recommended.

New owner since March 1, 2025. There were several of us Senior plates were no problem. The daily meal, salad with strips of rump steak, was delicious.

The owner and cook is truly very nice. She accommodated allergies and a vegan diet without any problems. The colorful pasta plate and salad dressings can be ordered vegan. A few more vegan options would have been nice. We really enjoyed ourselves there, and everyone enjoyed the food.

A rustic, comfortable atmosphere, top-notch steak, and a superb salad plate, combined with comfortable seating and friendly service. The extensive menu offers something for every taste. We'd love to visit more often in the future, including takeout.

We were there today after a hike, we were served in a friendly manner, the food was delicious, beef salad and Jägerschnitzel. We can only recommend the Old Castle 🏰.

Maybe it was OK here months ago, but since August with the new owner everything has gone downhill... Service is zero... Cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired...you have to say it if you want clean glasses!!!!!!! Beers are expired but served without hesitation!

Food needs improvement Staff friendly. Price performance is not right. Currywurst with fries 9.50 Boiled pork sausage with an indefinable sauce and a small portion of fries. That's better.

Wasn't worth a star, but no other reviews. We were there for the first time after the change of tenant and were very disappointed. We placed our food order and after 1 HOUR the waitress came to our table chewing and asked if we had eaten yet had, a joke. Then got our drink for free, but thanks for nothing. Never again

The beer was good and we were forgotten while eating. That's why we can't rate it. After an hour we were asked if we had eaten yet. We're not coming anymore.

We were 5 people. 4x schnitzel with various sauces and salad and 1x cordon bleu. Schnitzel fresh and very, very good. The sauces are great. Tasted really great. Fries nice and crispy. Salad dressing really good. The young man who served was very nice and helpful. Trying hard because he could save himself a lot of time and work if he briefly looked over the tables and made eye contact with the guests as he walked in and out. The empty plates and empty glasses are left on the table until you ask/call for them. Yes, ok, you can do that. But you can achieve more sales and make your guests happy if you offer yourself as a service. It's not service/operation and not "on call". But... always happy and highly recommended

Very nicely located beer garden at the end of a small valley. Ordered 2 beers (Park lager) and enjoyed them in the nice garden under the blue parasols. Very friendly service and very reasonable prices. Simply great!

Four of us, grandparents, daughter and grandchildren came to this idyllic restaurant and everyone thought it was great! The food was good and plentiful, and at reasonable prices. The service was extremely friendly, something that is not a given these days, and Victoria in particular created a very pleasant atmosphere. We were completely satisfied and recommended this restaurant to our friends, again at any time!!

Nach gut einem Jahr haben wir heuer das Lokal erneut besucht. Was man müssen muss - freitags ist Backfischtag! Für unter 10,00 € gibt es eine recht ansehnliche Portion, bestehend aus Kartoffelsalat, paniertem Backfisch und Remoulade. Auch die Getränkepreise sind moderat. Bedient wurden wir wieder sehr freundlich und schnell durch den Inhaber selbst. Wir alle waren sehr zufrieden und werden bestimmt wiederkommen, zumal auch das Ambiente stimmt. Übrigens - der große Aussenbereich ist inzwischen auch fertiggestellt und lädt bei gutem Wetter zu einem schönen Aufenthalt ein.

The ambience is reminiscent of the time 30 years ago. I felt very comfortable. The food is home-style and very good. Anyone who likes a delicious Jägerschnitzel, for example, will be very pleased. Tolle Location, jung und alt, gutes Essen auch mal einen trinken, Dart und Billiard gibt es im Raucherbereich. Der Wirt gibt Gas um seinen Gästen was zu bieten. Live Events - mal gratis, mal kostenpflichtig aber das muss ja. Schön dass es sowas im Umkreis noch gibt. Weiter so.

Ich war heute mit meiner Familie und Freunden dort, was soll ich sagen? Einfach Mega, bei Pascal und seinem Team fühlt man sich nicht nur als Gast. Man ist willkommen wie bei Freunden,die einem mit ihrem Essen und ihrem Ambiente ein Lächeln ins Gesicht zaubern. LG Marc

Wir gehen regelmäßig mit Oma und Opa ins ZAB. Warum? Hier wird gutbürgerlich, aber qualitativ sehr gut, gekocht und man fühlt sich immer pudelwohl. Mal ein Schätzchen mit Pascal oder Sascha oder dem Küchenchef, äfach schä dort!

Ganz tolle Bedienung, da fühlt man sich sofort wohl. Leckeres Essen, große Portionen zu einem super Preis. Nur zu Empfehlen.

Topp Location für Geburtstage oder sonstige Feiern. Nebenraum für Darts etc. In der wärmeren Jahreszeit auf jeden Fall einen Ausflug wert, toller Freisitz. Auch jetzt im Außenbereich angenehm mit Wärmepilz. Insgesamt rustikal und urig.

Update: Beim ersten Besuch sehr gut. Hatten Pfefferrahm Schnitzel und Cordon bleu. Geschmacklich lecker und preislich ok. Hatten wahrscheinlich den besten Kellner, leider hab ich vergessen nach dem Namen des jungen Herrn zu fragen. Sehr zuvorkommend und nett. Nochmal danke für den tollen Service 🤗 Biergarten ist schön angelegt und im grünen. Beim zweiten Besuch waren wir sehr unzufrieden. Die jungen Männer haben vom kellnern keine Ahnung.

Absolut zu empfehlen..ein großzügiger Biergarten, große überdachte Terrasse, Innenraum mit vielen Sitzplätzen, tolle und gut bestückte Bar, sauber und gut ausgestattete Toiletten.... Das Personal ist durchweg freundlich, kompetent und trotz viel Arbeit, immer aufmerksam und bedacht, den Gästen das bestmögliche zu bieten. Aufmerksame und selber viel im Einsatz der Inhaber Pascal . Kann dieses, ruhig gelegene Lokal nur empfehlen. Großzügige Parkplatz, tolle Auswahl an Speisen und Getränken. Hier ist auch en dickes Lob an die Köche und das Küchenpersonal angebracht.. Absolut kinderfreundlich.. Sogar für die begleitenden Haustiere wird gesorgt.... Einfach top...weitet so!! Ihr seid in Allem absolute Klasse!!!

Waren letzte Woche mal wieder in der Alten Burg. Sehr zu empfehlen sind die Tagesgerichte. Verstehe die negativen Bewertungen über das Essen nicht - Preis-Leistung ist sehr gut - Der Service ausgezeichnet - freundlich und zuvorkommend. In der heutigen Zeit schwer zu finden. Wir kommen sicher wieder, wenn wir zum Wandern oder Radeln nach Rodalben kommen.

Extra aus Berlin angereist waren mit 7 Personen vor Ort ein Spitzen Lokal und extrem super location super Service und Preis Leistung ist unschschlagbar darum sehr sehr vielen dank für diese Bewirtschaftung grüße aus Berlin und Hofstätten

War ein angenehmer Abend mit Livemusik

Wir waren kürzlich im Biergarten. Hatten vorher reserviert, was sich als sinnvoll erachtet hatte, da doch viel los war. Der Service war freundlich, aber eine Servicekraft sichtlich mit ihrer Aufgabe überfordert. Sie sagte sie sei neu, wo man über Anfangsschwierigkeiten hinweg sehen könnte. Da aber ein Fehler nach dem anderen passierte wurde auch dies Schwierig. Ständig nahm sie falsche Getränke oder ähnliches auf, obwohl sie mehrmals nachgefragt hatte bis sie eigentlich verstanden haben sollte was wir bestellen wollten. Dieses Problem war aber wohl nicht nur an unserem Tisch. Man konnte beobachten wie immer wieder falsche Getränke oder Essen zurück ging, da es niemand bestellt hatte. Das i-tüpfelchen war das wir unser Eis geschmolzen bekamen und vorallem dadurch auch nicht mehr zugeordnet werden konnte wem welches Eis war. Auch die Servicekraft selbst wusste nicht mehr was wo drin war. Trotzdem bekamen wir es einfach hingestellt. Wir liesen ihr unseren unmut darüber zu kommen. Dies wurde aber nicht wirklich wahrgenommen. Erst als wir uns bei dem freundlichen Servicemitarbeiter (der nicht neu war) beschwerten wurde etwas geändert. Wir bekamen selbstverständlich neues Eis und dieses ging sogar aufs Haus. 👌🏻 Das Essen an sich war sehr gut. Allerdings waren die Portionen eher klein, dafür der Preis höher. Lecker hat es wirklich geschmeckt, satt waren wir aber alle nicht geworden. Es wurden Sonderwünsche wie zb Glutenunverträglichkeit beachtet, hierfür kam sogar selbst der Koch an den Tisch. 👍🏻 (Aber beim Salatdressing fragten wir nochmal nach und mussten feststellen das dies trotz vorheriger Nachfrage nicht glutenfrei war und dem Koch scheinbar nicht klar war das ein bestimmtes Würzmittel gluten enthält). Sehr schade, da es doch so positiv war, das er vorher extra zu uns kam und alles absprach. Über seine Kochkünste an sich, kann man aber nichts schlechtes sagen. Es hat uns wirklich allen geschmeckt. Das Ambiente ist okay, wenn man nichts gehobenes erwartet. Mitten im Wald und für Wanderer geeignet. Schade war das kein Angebot für Kinder war. Vielleicht eine Rutsche, Schaukel oder Sandkasten wäre ganz schön gewesen. Die Sanitätanlagen waren sauber, konnte man nichts bemägeln. Lediglich bei den Damen schloss eine Tür nicht mehr. Alles in allem hatten wir dort einen netten Nachmittag mit gutem Essen. Allerdings werden wir wohl eher nicht mehr so oft hier einkehren. Vorallem weil uns einfach die Portionen zu klein sind für diesen Preis. Aber wir sind grundsätzlich nicht strikt dagegen hier vielleicht irgendwann mal wieder rein zu schauen. Und nochmals ein Lob an den tollen Servicemitarbeiter der letzten Endes alles gerettet hatte. Man merkte direkt das er auch Spaß an dem hat was er macht. Weiter so. 👍🏻👍🏻

Heute waren wir beim Italienischen Abend. Essen war leider nicht so gut. Knoblauch Baquette wurde leider nicht mehr aufgefüllt,Tortellini waren noch zu hart genauso die Lasagneblätter. Leider fehlten zum Fleisch ganz normale Nudeln da Soße vorhanden war. Etwas mehr Auswahl hätte ich mir gewünscht. Tiramisu war leider zu Sahne lässig. Für 25 Euro pro Person fürs Buffet in dieser Qualität finde ich schon unverschämt. Bedienung war aber sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend.

Schöner Biergarten, nette Leute, wir haben gerne das Wochenende eingeläutet bei euch.

Essen war gut kann ich empfehlen

Etwas abseits gelegen und sehr ruhig. Das Auto lässt man besser am Anfang vom Schotterweg stehen. Der Service ist sehr aufmerksam das Essen reichlich und lecker, die Preise normal. Meine Frau kann hier sogar Schnitzel mit Soße essen da sie glutenfrei sind. Warum bekommen das sogenannte Edel Lokale nicht hin, weil es billiger ist mit Mehl zu binden. Billige Zutaten für teures Essen. Das es auch anders geht beweist wieder dieses Lokal.

Kleine, urige Gaststätte mit Innen- und Außenplätzen. Sie liegt in Rodalben, allerdings etwas abseits im Wald. Eine Beschilderung des Zufahrtsweges ist vorhanden. Pfadfinderische Fähigkeiten können aber weiterhelfen. Von der L 497 aus kommend, fährt man über die Eisenbahnstrasse und über die Strasse „Am Ententeich“. Von dieser muß man links abbiegen (Achtung - kleiner Wegweiser) und erreicht nach etwa 500 Meter das Lokal. Die Speisekarte ist nicht all zu groß. Angeboten werden die üblichen Gerichte aus der deutschen Karte (Rumpsteak, Schnitzel, etc.) zu normalen Preisen. Zudem gibt es eine Tageskarte mit Angeboten unter 10,00 €. Die Getränkepreise sind sehr moderat. Bedient wurden wir rasch und freundlich; wir fühlten uns als Gäste willkommen. Für unsere insgesamt 5 Essen + Getränke zahlten insgesamt knapp 76,00€. Da kann man nicht meckern, zumal auch Quantität und Qualität stimmten. Wir werden das Lokal bestimmt wieder aufsuchen, um dann bei gutem Wetter den Außenbereich genießen zu können.
