XIAO Oberhausen in Oberhausen

I got a table without a reservation and received a friendly welcome. The service was prompt and friendly, and the tables were cleared quickly. The food was fresh, and most of what I tried was tasty. The grilling was rather careless, as everything was mixed together, and the meat stuck together. Despite the size, it was never overly loud and not hectic.

I've always been very satisfied. This time, the food was completely over-seasoned and salty. Some of it was barely edible. We arrived for a 12:00 reservation (just after 12:00). If you arrive by 12:15, you get a discounted price. However, the server didn't show up for us until about 15 minutes later, so we had to pay the full price. After describing the situation, there was zero understanding or sympathy. This was probably the last time. A real shame.

This was my second time there in a very short space of time. The food is fantastic, the staff are always eager to help, drinks come very quickly with a word six out of five.

Certainly a good option for lovers of all you can eat buffets. Pricing is fair, but at most of the individual stations the food has been in the container for a long time and no longer looks really fresh. We had a super competent and friendly service person. It is really very large with lots of seats, but never extremely noisy, as is often the case in L'Osteria and/or Vapianos. Of course, everyone knows that the margin is determined by the quantity and the drinks. Overall it was ok, not overpriced but the quality of the food has potential for improvement. No recommendation for returning soon

The food was delicious, but it didn't blow me away. But what deserved a huge plus were the desserts. Simply mega. It wasn't overly sweet and still very tasty. Fried bananas and churros with the chocolate sauce was the burner. Brownie with walnuts, cream puffs and so on. You can't go wrong 😋

After driving 350 km, I was pleasantly surprised by the shop. A friendly welcome, a well-maintained and clean interior. First, I washed my hands... a fantastic toilet, super comfortable... you immediately felt welcome. Upstairs, by the way, there's a great lounge for eating. We had reserved a table downstairs! Highly recommended because it was full but relaxed. The buffet was excellent. My tip: have the shrimp and seafood freshly prepared, the salads were excellent, and the salmon was "top class" and cooked to perfection. I really enjoyed everything. (The sushi wasn't so lovingly prepared, which is a shame.) The dessert was excellent. I recommend the Baumkuchen (tree cake), brownie, and flowing chocolate sauce... They also have churros... Then I returned 350 km. A family visit with a great meal together.

The food was okay, but on Sundays, the empty dishes weren't always filled quickly. But we've NEVER experienced such BAD service as we did here! The waiter, named Unho, came to our table without even saying hello and seemed very listless the whole time. When paying, we chose the no-tip option, and he immediately left without a word or giving us a receipt. Do you not even get a receipt here as a guest just because you don't want to tip for the lack of service? The mandatory receipt requirement in restaurants apparently doesn't apply to this restaurant, or at least not to this waiter! We've eaten at several Xiao locations and have never experienced such rudeness. Simply unbelievable.

Hello dear Xiao team, I would like to tell you about my visit yesterday and share a few things I unfortunately didn't like. For your information: We've been to your restaurant many times (always on Sunday lunchtimes), and we know you can do better, but yesterday's buffet experience wasn't a pleasant one for us. I spontaneously visited you yesterday evening, March 26, 2025, at around 7:00 PM with two children. We quickly got a table, and Leo, our assigned waiter, quickly took and brought our drinks as usual. When we arrived at the buffet, we prepared plates of shrimp and lamb for roasting and placed them on the grill with the other plates. (At this point, the counter was already packed from front to back, and there was only one cook.) Afterwards, we went to the buffet, which last night was nothing like the one we were used to. Many dishes no longer looked appetizing; the rice had burned in the wok, and the sauces had dried out. Many items were missing and didn't arrive quickly enough. After waiting for an hour, I wanted to see what had happened to the shrimp and lamb chops. I noticed that they hadn't really moved forward, and I quickly realized why! Some guests were leaving their plates at the front of the grill, where they then processed them and ignored the other plates. (As a guest, I really felt sorry for the grilling employee because he was clearly overwhelmed.) I then spoke to an employee about the situation, who then told me that there were 10 waiters too few today, but that he would look into the situation. After 1.5 hours, the food finally arrived from the grill, although one of the plates, unfortunately, hadn't been handed over by us, so it was also the wrong one. Unfortunately, the shrimp and lamb weren't properly fried, but rather boiled, so it really wasn't tasty. (Of course, this was also expressed on site.) Normally, I wouldn't view the following so critically and wouldn't evaluate it further, but the fact that the staff let the guests load their plates because they couldn't do it themselves because they were so laden was fitting for the evening and shows that, unfortunately, there was a shortage of staff in all areas at that time. However, it remains to be said that all the staff were friendly and committed, but unfortunately, they couldn't change the situation. Given our expectations and the price, that evening's buffet experience wasn't the one we paid for or were used to. We wouldn't spontaneously come back to you during the week. I hope that with this constructive criticism, I can give you some insight into our impressions of last night. Yesterday I had dinner at Xiao Oberhausen with several family members. The buffet price is graded according to age groups, so I paid significantly less for my children. The atmosphere in the restaurant is modern and cozy. Even though it is a large restaurant, it was never too loud or stressful. The service was very courteous and nice. When my child tipped the glass, our waitress cleaned the table as quickly as possible and immediately offered to bring a free replacement drink. That was great cinema and still a rarity in today's capitalism! The selection in the buffet was great. There is something for every taste and all needs are catered for. The price-performance ratio is right. All family members felt very comfortable here and would like to come back again. I can highly recommend the Xiao in Oberhausen to families with children, as children of all ages are catered for. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire team for a lovely afternoon with delicious food!

I'm here almost every weekend. The service is attentive and friendly. Waiting times remained minimal throughout, and the attentiveness of the wait staff contributed significantly to a pleasant overall experience. The grill is great and the master (AH) responds very individually to your wishes.

Unfortunately, just a disappointment. The food is sometimes cold and you have the feeling of sitting in a large canteen. Unfortunately it's not worth the hype - fried noodles had their own musty taste, and the various foods were mass-produced - no good taste in any of the dishes. If you have taste buds you should go somewhere else. The food has nothing to do with Chinese food - was an absolute nightmare for me. The only drinkable ones were the drinks. We finally got a chance to visit XIAO, which draws attention to itself with colorful videos and bombards us with slogans like "the best buffet." They're currently offering reduced prices, so it might be doubly worth it. We landed in Oberhausen last Thursday. They offered us a raffle at the beginning... cool idea... but only when it's not crowded, haha. The ambiance wasn't as described by friends (extremely loud), because there were hardly any customers. The interior design is quite good, but ten minutes after we sat down, the employees in the back started moving furniture around in a funny way. Great if you want to have a cozy meal. After ten minutes of background noise, the next disappointment. Half of the dishes were still left over from lunch and looked accordingly unappetizing (see photos). The meat was overcooked, and the food in the bowls was drowning in its own juices. Ugh! The selection is pathetic compared to almost every buffet I know, and there are probably 30 different ones in the Ruhr area alone. The sushi is mediocre: fried shrimp or torpedo shrimp...nada. Not even the teriyaki ribs praised in the video were served...they were conspicuously absent. The fish, which only arrived after we left the shop, had a carelessly smothered sauce splattered on it. The vegetables and mushrooms were simply heated without any sauce (or just a hint) or seasoning and were bland. For dessert, we wanted to tempt ourselves with the cream puffs, but they were still partially frozen inside. A treat for the teeth. The canned chocolate pudding was delicious. But you can't go wrong with that either. At least the staff was friendly. All in all, this shop is a joke. Even the reduced price is unjustified. XIAO is neither innovative, surprising, nor worth a visit. It's a lot of hot air. Yes, everyone has different tastes, but I have no idea what you'd have to be used to from home or other shops to be satisfied here, especially when I look at the almost yellowed salad in the photo. Everything is lacking in love. I don't expect a 5-star menu in places like this, but there should be a minimum standard. Surprisingly, I found myself talking to other disappointed guests in the parking lot. So far, the second-worst Asian buffet in the Ruhr area. Never again.

The food was good. There's also a bit more choice than at other all-you-can-eats. The grill option was okay. There's also a good selection for vegetarians. The dessert was great 🥰 Our server (I think her name was Amelia) was very nice and attentive. The noise level is, of course, loud, as with other all-you-can-eats, but you know that beforehand. All in all, it was good. Unfortunately, the sushi was only average. 2 people with 2 buffets and 3 drinks cost €75.

XIAO – A barbecue experience in a class of its own! I have been to many Asian buffets, but what I experienced at XIAO was simply extraordinary! I was absolutely thrilled by the variety of dishes, the quality of the ingredients and the freshness of each individual dish. But the real highlight of the evening was the grill station - and here I have to especially A.H. praise! A true master of his craft! Not everyone has the skills and experience to grill meat to perfection. Thanks to him, the teriyaki steaks, grilled shrimp, grilled salmon and crispy duck were simply delicious! Every bite was a taste experience – juicy, aromatic and cooked just right. What A.H. But what makes him special is not only his excellent grilling skills, but also his positive energy and his passion for what he does. He takes the time to prepare the meat perfectly and it shows in every dish. His friendly manner made the evening even more pleasant. A big compliment to the entire XIAO team, but especially to A.H. for his outstanding work! I'm already looking forward to my next visit - because when quality, taste and service work together so perfectly, then I'm guaranteed to come back!

Enttäuschend! Um kurz vor 22:00 wird kein Sushi mehr nachserviert, obwohl bis 0:00 geöffnet ist, viele Speisen sind schon lange in den Woks und entsprechend trocken oder fast matschig. Das macht fast jedes einfache Dorfrestaurant wesentlich besser. Dabei ist die Idee, mal andere Speisen anzubieten, als sie überall zu finden sind, eigentlich gut.

Wir waren schon oft in XIAO-Restaurants (Essen,Gelsenkirchen,Oberhausen). Heute waren wir nicht so zufrieden. Kamen gegen 14 h dort an. Essen war gut und ausreichend. Teilweise leider nicht warm. Als wir zum Nachtisch kamen war kaum noch was da. Keine Churros, gebackene Banane und anderes leer bzw. weg ! Schalen für Eis, Pudding auch nicht da. Gäste bedienten sich bei den Suppenschalen. Die waren dann auch alle. Trotz 20 Min. warten wurde nicht nachgelegt. Auf Nachfrage beim Personal kam, bald ist nach 16 h, dann gibt es das wohl wieder frisch. Hat das mit der Preisgestaltung zu tun? (Bis 16 h günstiger als danach). So sollte es nicht sein.

Das Essen für 29,50 € vom Buffet war OK aber nichts Herausragendes. Das in Auftrag gegebene Fleisch, Pilze und Süßkartoffeln waren dafür eine Katastrophe. Das Fleisch hart, die Pilze verbrannt und die Süßkartoffeln nicht durch. Ansonsten war eigentlich alles OK, freundliches Personal, das Essen wurde regelmäßig nachgelegt und die Wartezeiten auf die Getränke kurz. Auch die Lautstärke war trotz der Tatsache, dass rings um uns herum in dem Riesenraum alles bestzt war, erstaunlich leise. Leider hat auch hier die amerikanische Methode zum Trinkgeld Einzug gehalten. Bei der Bezahlung mit Karte erscheint auf dem Display automatisch die Auswahl zwischen 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% und ganz klein 'eigener Betrag' für das Trinkgeld. Dadurch fühlt man sich doch ziemlich unter Druck gesetzt.

We had to wait 15 minutes at the entrance even though we reserved a table. The waiter kept disappearing, even though you could see empty seats from the entrance. The comment that we wanted a quiet place was simply ignored. We were told to sit on a large bench close to other guests. We then simply sat down at another table that was free and for 3 people. Another couple also sat at a table for three. The waiter came a short time later and said that he now needed the table for three other people (even though there were still enough tables available for three people). We said no and then suddenly it was no longer a problem. The waitress only came once to take our drinks. Guests who came and ordered after us received their drinks sooner. Drinks ordered via the QR code arrived incorrectly or not at all. Only after asking and then was told that it wasn't true. We couldn't tolerate the food. But the pancake machine was good. In addition, it is a cheek to increase the price because of the fixed costs and cost of living & then to advertise that it is cheaper before 4 p.m. because then you need “less” light, but then you have the light on all the time? My husband is also a truck driver and knows that you buy these foods in large quantities and you pay a cheap price for them. Unfortunately it was the last time we ate at XIAO.

At the weekend you wait an extremely long time for a drink order. The food is OK. Otherwise the atmosphere is more reminiscent of a cafeteria...

Very good and rich buffet with constant fresh replenishment. Delicious drinks and really fantastic lemonades. Not too sweet, unusual flavors. Despite the high number of visitors, the service was fast, reliable and particularly friendly. Everything perfect. We felt very comfortable and had a nice chat with the waitress. Very friendly and entertaining. We would have adopted her straight away...unfortunately we were too full to do anything other than breathe :D
