XIAO Oberhausen in Oberhausen

On May 12, 2025, I was in the Xiao Oberhausen restaurant with two business partners who are also customers of our company. Unfortunately our visit this time was a very negative experience. The quality of the food left a lot to be desired, especially the salads were obviously old and inedible. The choice of food was also significantly limited compared to before. Such deviations can perhaps still be understood on a Monday after the weekend. What was absolutely unacceptable, however, was the way the responsible staff handled our legitimate complaints. We wanted to return a spoiled salad, whereupon we were informed that we would still have to pay for it: 14 euros for 200g. It's not about the amount, but about the lack of respect and lack of responsibility on the part of the restaurant management. Unfortunately, one of my business partners was admitted to the EKO Hospital that same evening with severe stomach problems. I also had stomach problems, albeit in a milder form. I have often been a guest at Restaurant Xiao in the past and have had mostly good experiences so far. This visit was all the more disappointing. The ambience and location are still excellent - but the poor management endangers the reputation and continued existence of this establishment. I will not visit this restaurant again in the future and cannot recommend it - especially for business occasions.

The buffet was too hot and the food was extremely dry. There were far too few waiters. All of the employees were extremely stressed. You can't get good service if a waiter has to serve too many tables. The waiters did their best.

I had dinner in this restaurant some time ago and was very satisfied, especially with the food and the ambience. The disappointment was even greater on my last visit. There were four of us and we had reserved a table. After being seated we had to decline the first table because there were several ants there, not exactly a welcoming start. Unfortunately, the food was consistently disappointing: mostly poorly seasoned, sometimes dry, and the sushi was completely boring. I wasn't alone with my opinion - my companion also felt the same way and a neighbor at the table had said the same thing. The friendly service and the beautiful ambience should be positively highlighted - nothing has changed. I wonder all the more how such a stark difference in quality is possible compared to my first visit. Very unfortunate.

What was available was also very salty - perhaps intentionally so that guests would order more drinks. We paid quite a bit and for a restaurant of this class we are really very disappointed.

Great food, friendly and courteous service

We set off on Sunday afternoon, just in time for opening at 12 noon. As soon as you entered the restaurant, you were struck by the bright and modern atmosphere. Definitely a refreshing change from the often very traditionally furnished Chinese restaurants that we are familiar with. I liked that before! What immediately made me a bit suspicious: Although the restaurant was half empty, all the guests were seated next to each other in a fairly compact manner. Why, dear XIAO crew, why? A little more air to breathe and privacy would have been more pleasant. Let's get to the heart of it: the food. The quality of the food was absolutely fine, there is nothing to complain about. Everything tasted good, was fresh and attractively prepared. But – and now comes the honest BUT – the wow effect was unfortunately missing. It was tasty, yes, but not so outstanding that I would have to come back now. To be honest, my “China man around the corner” is enough. A small downer was the waiting time for the teppanyaki dish. We had to wait a good 32 minutes for this, even though the restaurant was only half full. I really wonder how long it will take if all hell breaks loose here. This is definitely something the XIAO should work on. My conclusion: If you live nearby and want a “hipster Chinese” with a modern flair, you can definitely pay a visit to XIAO. The food is solid and the ambience is something different. In my opinion it's not really worth the extra journey.

Total failure, pure disappointment! This restaurant is so hyped up on social media that it's completely incomprehensible. The taste of the food was a disaster and the quality was absolutely subpar. You can't even talk about the sushi selection, that was more of a bad joke. I was really annoyed that I spent the day there. The hype is absolutely not justified and is pure eyewash. The only bright spot was the friendly waiter, who really went out of his way to get a star. But the restaurant doesn't deserve more.

So I have to say I was really disappointed because the food was just warm... The thing I give 2 stars for when it comes to food instead of 1... They have a mini pancake machine 😅

Ambience very nice and toilets well maintained. But unfortunately what we ate today was far too dry... The stoves on which the pans were placed were far too hot. I haven't been there for a while. Fried rice had been sitting for a long time and was hard. There were too many vegetables in the sauce. Maybe the staff shouldn't take away the empty bowls and then bring a new one, but rather bring a full bowl straight away and then take the (almost) empty bowl with them. If you give a plate of raw things to fry, it takes far too long to get it back. During this time you eat from the buffet. At the very end you get the fried food back. When you're actually finished. We then had to distribute it among 4 people because you can't leave a full plate. This will take some time until you go there again. Price was okay. But it shouldn't be more expensive because it's not worth it.

I visited the Xiao restaurant for the first time today, everything was very tasty and msn has a lot to choose from! So four stars overall. There was only one thing I wished for and that was the demand for the buzzer game.

Nice large restaurant with a nice decor/atmosphere. Service staff was limited, making drink intake very slow. Later, everyone received a QR code, so that customers could pass this on themselves. The food range was limited, but everything was fresh and tasty, especially for the price they ask. There was also a buzzer game where you could earn a free meal and my son actually won!

A lot of it is empty, not refilled in a timely manner, some of it is dry and caked on, some of it really sticks together. Food in relation to the price is outrageous/very simple. Some of the food displays were always empty, the fried rice was inedible and lumpy and the sushi tasted like it was from the day before. The drink glasses smelled of eggs! The staff was unfriendly and abrupt. I definitely won't eat there again. The five of us paid €120 and the waiter even withheld the remaining amount despite the tip.

I recently went to this All You Can Eat restaurant and was really in the mood for a cozy evening with delicious food. Unfortunately, the overall experience was rather mixed. The food itself didn't really convince me - the taste was average to disappointing. There was a particular problem with the meat: I took my meat to the grill and actually had to wait an hour for it to come back. And then it was even less than what I had originally given in - a bit of a shame. What stood out positively was the service. The staff were really friendly, helpful and tried to create a pleasant atmosphere despite all the stress. Unfortunately, the atmosphere wasn't quite as inviting. It was a bit dusty and generally didn't seem as well maintained as you would want a restaurant to be. Overall: You can tell that the team is making an effort, but there are definitely a few areas that need to be improved - especially the grill service and cleanliness. For a relaxed evening I might look for a different location next time, but if you like a cheap all you can eat with friendly staff, you can give it a try.

I was with you for the first time today. Everything went smoothly until I paid - but then I was honestly shocked and disappointed. My bill was €59.60. I gave the waitress €100, but she only gave me €40 back. I find it disrespectful to simply keep the missing €0.40 and leave without comment. Even if it is a small amount, the principle is important here. Such behavior reflects poorly on your staff. It should go without saying that tips are given voluntarily and in the amount that the guest considers appropriate - and not simply kept. I can't imagine that I'm the only guest this has happened to. We've eaten there several times. Personally, I've never liked it that much, but my wife and two children did until yesterday. Had dinner there on April 13, 2025. Although there wasn't more going on than usual, the condition at the tables was catastrophic and the buffet was only adequate. We were there for two hours. When we arrived, several tables were no longer occupied and had not been cleared. Our table couldn't be considered cleaned either. The chairs were also covered with leftover food. The drinks menu was also greasy. Some items at the buffet were not refilled during the two hours. When asked, they were just put off and excuses were sought. Thanks Xiao, now I don't have to eat with you anymore.

Got a table without a reservation and received a friendly welcome. The service was quick and friendly and the tables were cleared quickly. The food was fresh and most of what I tried was tasty. The preparation on the grill was rather careless as everything was mixed together and the meat stuck to each other. Despite the size, it was never overly loud and not hectic.

I've always been very satisfied. This time, the food was completely over-seasoned and salty. Some of it was barely edible. We arrived for a 12:00 reservation (just after 12:00). If you arrive by 12:15, you get a discounted price. However, the server didn't show up for us until about 15 minutes later, so we had to pay the full price. After describing the situation, there was zero understanding or sympathy. This was probably the last time. A real shame.
