We had a truly wonderful lunch at Xiao's! At 12 noon, it was completely empty, and we enjoyed our food and the service! We hadn't been here in a long time and were pleasantly surprised that the restaurant has transformed. It doesn't conform to the typical all-you-can-eat stereotype. Instead, the food is presented buffet-style in attractive woks, the dishes are of very high quality and original, and the service is very personal! At the end, we even got a shot of schnapps as a nightcap to thank us for our tip! We felt like we were at our local Asian restaurant; it was so personal, friendly, and empty! We'll be back!

The service was very friendly, as usual – I'd especially like to highlight the Japanese waiter, who impressed us with his courteous manner. Unfortunately, the food wasn't quite as impressive this time as on previous visits. This may have been due to the timing of our visit, as we were there right between the lunch and dinner buffets. Overall, however, we highly value the restaurant and would be happy to return.

We ate at Xiao and would like to express our sincere appreciation – especially to the very friendly and attentive waiter (called "the Japanese waiter"). He was extremely courteous, attentive, and truly made our visit a positive experience. Thank you so much for that! The food was okay, although we probably arrived right in the middle of the transition from the lunch to the dinner buffet – perhaps because it didn't quite live up to our expectations. But we'd be happy to come back, especially because of the great service!

We went there for Mother's Day dinner with our family (14 people) and had made reservations in advance for the afternoon. The restaurant was busy at the time but not fully booked. We were able to order the first drinks "already" after 20 minutes and after a good hour they were even brought, although not all of the drinks were right. Some of the food wasn't good, the kangaroo and the duck died several times, the caramelized salmon was always empty. After repeated requests, our waitress managed to bring a second and final round of drinks; we were in the restaurant for 3.5 hours. She also had problems clearing the tables, we alone had over 50 plates on the table... At the buffet itself there was no cutlery or plates left, I ate my ice cream sorbet with a knife and fork. My mother cheekily went straight into the kitchen and asked for cutlery, which was washed by hand because there were only dirty dishes in the kitchen. The place was a disaster on Sunday, our listless waitress should think about whether the job is the right one. After all, you spend a lot of money there for a nice meal and you'll be seriously disappointed. The shop in Bochum Wattenscheid is much better run and highly recommended, unfortunately Gelsenkirchen is not possible at all.

Restaurant time to close is 22:00. I arrived at 21:15 and the young lady said the buffet is closed. I said they close at 22:00, she replied that they start clearing up early. Then bloody well mention that on the site or somewhere before I enter.

First no cutlery. On request 6 knives in a glass for 3 people. Asked again for cutlery. Service staff overwhelmed. Waited forever for drinks. Once a service person says I'm glad I found her. Stack of plates not cleaned properly. Then at times there were no plates or they were so hot that MSN due couldn't touch them. Hardly any ice available. Watermelon was empty throughout our entire stay. I then paid by card and didn't receive a receipt. But before paying, I could choose three different positions with a tip in percent or even choose no tip at all. When I paid, the amount of 129 euros seemed a bit high to me and I checked the bill using a menu that I first had to get. Lo and behold, instead of 3 people, 4 people were charged. Upon request, the invoice was corrected and I received 24.90 euros and a receipt. An apology was not listening. Conclusion that was our last visit to Xiao in Gelsenkirchen.

Terrible quality food, we often went to this buffet restaurant before Covid.....then after the reopening we went back a year ago, noticing a clear deterioration in the quality and variety of the food....Today we went back, determined to give it a second chance, in the hope that in a year the quality had changed, but no...very bad quality, never again.

Unfortunately a disaster, please don't come, no matter the price. The food was absolutely disgusting, except for the salmon sashimi and carpaccio (which is absurd to be offered in a Chinese buffet, as is penne al forno, tomato mozzarella etc.). The live grill was the worst. The kangaroo meat smelled disgusting and was impossible to chew. The sauce didn't add to the flavor of the grilled dish at all, although it tasted good on its own. The finished main courses were very chewy, salty, fatty and with little taste. The sushi was very bad because of the rice and very dry toppings. The dessert was also really disappointing because it had very little taste, only mango ice cream was tasty. The sodas were promising, but too artificial and sweet. Yuzu in Yuzu-Raspberry smelled strongly chemically like lemon cleaning agent, so you couldn't taste raspberry at all. The countless positive reviews with different waiter names seem to have been written by bots. 3 different waiters were very slow with the drinks and clearing away the plates. The only positive thing was the very nice furnishings, cleanliness and different seating options. None of this can fix the disgusting food. Never again!!

We've eaten at XIAO many times, but at other locations - unfortunately the selection at our actual location has decreased, so we wanted to try Gelsenkirchen this evening. Apart from the fact that unfortunately the buffet wasn't refilled properly (maybe we just came at a stupid time), we were more than disappointed with the service. The lady didn't notice us at all, didn't even look at us and we were only able to order our drinks after the third plate (we just got up at some point as no one came to ask for drinks), but only when we asked, where they were then very surprised that we were even sitting there (only then was it also stated that we would like to eat at the buffet). It continued with the fact that after the drinks were empty, we were not asked again if we would like anything else, here again we were not looked at or anything else, empty plates were not cleared away and so on - at other tables this all went smoothly. In the end we were pretty annoyed and after waiting 45 minutes for us to pay (no, we still weren't even looked at), we spoke to a nice gentleman who, thank God, was very friendly and pointed out to his colleague that we wanted to pay. However, she then came back very sloppy, didn't respond to our complaint or even let us finish - there was no apology, no explanation, simply nothing at all, just an extremely mushy "cash or card" from her side. We would have preferred not to pay at all. We paid over €60 and were able to drink a drink within over 1.5 hours. In the end, they also charged €1 too much, which unfortunately we only noticed when we were already home. Service is different, especially since we were friendly the whole time, even though we were more than annoyed because we actually wanted to spend a nice evening at XIAO. However, the fact that you are then attacked (the nice colleague had previously said that this is not possible) is simply impossible. It's a shame about the money that, in retrospect, we would have saved if we hadn't asked the lady if we could get something to drink - since she didn't notice us (although the neighboring table apparently did). Unfortunately, we definitely won't be coming back because over 60€ for such a service was simply not justified. At the end we also noticed that other tables were also waiting, had run out of drinks and were already waiting with their wallets in their hands. It's a shame that when we point this out, people get sour instead of taking the whole thing to heart and changing something about it - so many guests will definitely not come back if a service staff leaves so many tables sitting there dissatisfied. Things looked different with the other operations or in the other areas.

The buffet was very disappointing. For a price of €28 per person without drinks, I expected more. The meat was tough and dry. The main dishes at the buffet were disgusting and had nothing to do with Chinese food. The gleich was absolutely overcooked on the live grill, making it inedible. If you're looking for authentic Chinese food, you should look for another restaurant. Funnily enough, even if you only come here to eat fries and prawn chips, I would advise against it as even those were disgusting I've been to other Chinese restaurants so I can tell the difference. Clearly not a recommendation.

In the case of the salmon nigiris, the raw salmon was already dried and hardened. A fly landed on the mozzarella and tomato pieces. A small insect was flying around near the salads. The way the raw fish is cooled looks insufficient, they have a huge amount of ice and pieces of raw fish are hanging out there, it doesn't look like the entire fish is cooled sufficiently. If you want something grilled you have to hand your plate over there. Took about 30 minutes, even though there were only 3 plates and mine was the first. The chicken teriyaki was good, but there was hardly any and it wasn't refilled in the 2 hours I was there. I didn't notice any difference between the lunch menu and the evening menu, although the evening menu costs 10 euros more. If you want a straw with your cocktail you have to pay 50 cents more. If you pay by card, the device asks you whether and how much you want to tip, but it's a buffet and you have to get everything yourself.

Very good Asian buffet with an unusual selection. It was my first time in a Xiao and I was pleasantly surprised. Of course there are the typical dishes that you would expect at a buffet like this, but many things stood out from the competition. For example, there are many already prepared salads, a very large selection of sushi, many interesting meat and fish variations, a large selection of desserts and of course you can also have something freshly prepared. I particularly loved the yellow chicken curry and the salmon fillet, which was extremely good. There is also a good drinks menu and the atmosphere invites you to linger. The outdoor area is certainly very nice in summer. I'd love to come back :)
