Very tasty, very nice staff, always a nice evening!

There are thousands of restaurants in Essen and the surrounding area. The surprise bag definitely belongs in the top 3! The restaurant was completely refurnished in 2022. The owner couple has planned long and lovingly and thought everything through down to the last detail. No expense or effort was spared. Modern ambience, wooden floors, beautiful lava stone counter, high-quality furniture and behind the scenes a top modern kitchen. Anyone who knows gastro kitchens would love this equipment! The chef and his team of chefs: absolute virtuosos 👌 There is a stable basic menu and regularly changing dishes on the table. Only the finest meat, but also very sophisticated vegan dishes. From small dishes for small appetites to a five-course menu that fills the evening. And the service team is very nice and attentive. A top restaurant where the ambience invites you to linger, the service is good, the people are friendly and the food is delicious. Where can you find something like that? :) Happy New Year, by the way!

We were here for Christmas dinner buffet style for 45 euros per person. The starter was ok, but also very small: 3 dips, baguette bread, antipasti, couscous salad. The main course was really tasty and also great for us vegetarians. However, the meat eaters didn't find it so exciting that only veal was offered. We were all extremely disappointed with the dessert. There should be brownie with port wine cherries. The brownie was a chocolate cake that was arranged carelessly and without tongs or anything similar, stacked on a plate. So you had to take it down by hand. The port wine cherries were slightly thickened morello cherries without port wine, and one searched in vain for spices. 45 euros is really steep for this offer. We really expected more.

It was a very nice evening. The ambience is warm and welcoming, the background noise is opaque. Pleasant to spend time there and enjoy the food. The portions of the food are large. You will definitely get full. The wines are sold at a great price; it is rare to see a restaurant like this that offers good wines at a fair price. From veggies to elaborate meat dishes, everyone can find what they are looking for. The service and the boss do a great job. You feel completely comfortable!

I was eating there alone because I was in Essen on business. I was welcomed very nicely, which is not always a given when you want to occupy a table alone. The atmosphere is very nice and pleasant. I had the fresh Sicilian style tagliatelle. They were ok! Simple pasta dish overall, perhaps with three slices of zucchini and 2-3 cherry tomatoes with capers and thyme, a really manageable portion for €16. As a rule, I can never manage pasta dishes, that wasn't the case here at all, I mean, pretty sporty, €16 for a simple dish isn't really enough to fill you up.

A delicious and sociable evening, in a beautiful atmosphere, the food was great, the service was great and friendly. The only drawback is the lack of hearing. The rounded end was dessert, we went home happy.

We were there for the first time on Sunday & the question is: Why did we discover this great shop so late??? Our Christmas party will take place there and we are very happy! We stopped by spontaneously after visiting Emscherpark! We were very surprised: friendly welcome, nice atmosphere, great cuisine for meat eaters and vegetarians and so we had an all-round successful evening!

The concept is not often found, the range (also in terms of price) is unusually wide, as if they wanted to reach everyone: from basics of the best quality to impeccable veggie dishes and impeccable meat dishes. In a positive way, the menu is not extensive but focuses on freshness and the seasons. For travelers and the curious, there are occasional themed evenings with wine and food from European regions. Decent wine list. The service is friendly and attentive and fulfills all small extra requests. Price level very reasonable. The location, hidden in the culinary diaspora of the north of Essen, enriches it (5* for that) but makes you shy away from the spontaneous journey from the southern districts.

We were treated excellently and the service was impeccable - nothing was left to be desired. The schnitzel was perfectly souffled and incredibly tasty. My wife chose the monkfish saltimbocca and found it highly recommended. We are particularly grateful to the kitchen, who, at our request, prepared a pancake as a dessert from the children's menu. Wir haben einen schönen Abend bei ausgezeichnetem Essen mit unseren Kindern (6 und 9) hier verbracht. Unsere Vorspeisen waren zum einen ausgefallen und zum anderen einfach köstlich mit wunderbar aufeinander abgestimmten Komponenten. Die Hauptgerichte waren auch sehr gelungen. Die Kinder waren vom Schnitzel mit Pommes und Kartoffelpüree mit fischstäbchen schwer begeistert. Das selbstgemachte Eis für die Kinder im Hörnchen haben alles wunderbar abgerundet. Der Service war super freundlich und das Ambiente modern und einladend. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder.

We spent a lovely evening with excellent food here with our children (6 and 9). Our starters were on the one hand unusual and on the other hand simply delicious with wonderfully coordinated components. The main courses were also very successful. The children were very enthusiastic about the schnitzel with fries and mashed potatoes with fish fingers. The homemade ice cream for the children in the cone rounded everything off wonderfully. The service was super friendly and the atmosphere was modern and inviting. We would love to come back.

Fine dining with a great ambience and very nice staff. We have been there twice now and are thrilled. The food is special and perfect for people who like to try something new. The prices are appropriate for the quality. The jazz music as accompaniment adapts to the concept of the restaurant. It is also child-friendly and there is even a special menu for younger guests. We are more than satisfied and can recommend the surprise bag without hesitation! Thank you for the lovely stays (there will be more to come) and congratulations to the entire staff. :)

We have been guests here twice now and were completely satisfied again. From the service, to the ambience, to the quality and ultimately the price, we have absolutely nothing to complain about, and from our own experience we can only encourage you to get your own impression. Personally, I think it's a shame to give lower stars for the district, a table near the entrance or even for the fact that you don't seem to be able to put the sesame seeds from your plate to your mouth. Please continue with your concept, the friendly manner and the many little things that make the visit unique!

SECRET TIP!!! Nice family shop with very good food. Not a surprise bag, but a miracle taste. Price performance really above average. Service very nice. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and designed with a lot of love. I hope we get to know the chef next time. You will see us more often from now on.

Hammer! A gem. Just lovely. There were 5 of us at one of the round tables, all with different wishes, and everything harmonized perfectly. 2 x the great, finely prepared and yet unpretentious 3-course menu with wine accompaniment (super fair price); my wife was thrilled with the stuffed zucchini and all with the great fresh aperitifs (we had them with and without alcohol). My little one loved the beautifully flat and crispy schnitzels from the children's menu. A perfect place to delight the palate and at the same time make the now not entirely undemanding kids happy. Visited there for the first time and will definitely come back!

Es war ein ganz toller Abend, mit einem erstklassigen und sehr individuellen 6 Gang Menü. Der Service war nicht nur aufmerksam, sondern auch sehr angenehm. Die Beratung zu dem Menü bzw. dem Wein war äußerst professionell. Es hat sich gelohnt, mal etwas Neues auszuprobieren:-) Wir kommen gerne wieder und können die Wundertüte in allen Bereichen jedem nur empfehlen.

My wife and I went on a short bike ride because of the nice weather, but it was still very cold. Frozen, I say to her: let's eat a "Manta Platter", I discovered a new shop: the "Wundertüte". Now let's be honest, can you cook a currywurst to a star level? Boh eh, luckily there were two slices of baguette so we could scrape the last drop of sauce out of the bowl. I just say: awesome! Next time we come, we'll order something more sophisticated from the menu. The ambience and service are not outstanding in relation to the unusual cuisine. You just feel comfortable. Keep it up, we wish you all the best.

We went there for the first time from Duisburg and it was great. From the greeting to the farewell, everything was perfect. The interior is modern and very comfortable. The service staff are very friendly and you immediately feel very comfortable. And the food is refined, fresh and very tasty. The plate language also whets the appetite for more. There are also very tasty things on the menu for vegetarians. And the prices are really not too high for this quality. We'll definitely be back.

On a red carpet. If you walk into the restaurant you will be smiled at and escorted to your table. That was great. Good start. The three of us sat in the back corner at the table and on each table there was a vase of roses. I think that's great 👍 the menu is very well filled. From €5 to €30, there is something for every taste. The service is very friendly and you have fun. What I like ❤️ we ordered the schnitzel with fries, the meatballs. With fried potatoes and I ordered the best currywurst in North Rhine-Westphalia. She was okay, but nothing more. As a starter we had a sandwich that looked really tasty and also tasted parsnip soup and I had a wild salad with honey dressing that was absolutely amazing. All in all I would say we enjoyed it very much. In any case, I'll come back again one day with another friend

Normally 5 stars in everything, but the area in which this wonderful restaurant is located is not exactly inviting. However, the food, service and interior ambience exceeded all expectations. From the starter to the main course to the dessert, everything was really perfect. We were thrilled and would love to come back.

Wir haben unseren ersten Stammtisch dort durchgeführt und es war ein voller Erfolg. Das Essen war hervorragend und der Service ließ keine Wünsche offen. Obwohl das Restaurant um 22.00 Uhr offiziell schließt, haben die beiden Mädels, ohne zu Murren und ohne in der Serviceleistung nachzulassen, bis Mitternacht durchgezogen. Das ist in der heutigen Zeit nicht mehr selbstverständlich. Ganz, ganz herzlichen Dank dafür und jederzeit wieder.

Die Wundertüte in Essen ist ein Restaurant mit schönem Ambiente, netten Personal und sehr leckeren Essen. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ist absolut positiv: tolles Essen zu guten Preisen. Alles zudem sehr sauber. Auch für Vegetarier ist etwas dabei, sodass hier jeder willkommen ist und man zu den verschiedensten Anlässen, wie auch für das schnelle Essen zwischendurch eine gute Adresse hat. Absolut empfehlenswert!

The Restaurant ‘Wundertüte’ is a place where friendly service is commonly known. The big bright room spelt a welcoming atmosphere. The crew was very friendly. Kids are welcome too. Children receive ice cream as a dessert. It was not expensive. The voucher ‘From Guest to Guest’ is a very humane gesture. Thank you for this possibility. My cappuccino was very delicious.

Ich war heute das erste Mal dort. Das Lokal ist wundervoll. So unglaublich sympathieausstrahlende und aufmerksame Servicekräfte. Die Auswahl der Speisen ist super vielfältig und die Portionsgrößen sind gut. Ich freue mich auf meinen nächsten Besuch, denn wiederkommen werde ich auf jeden Fall.

Das Essen war liebevoll angerichtet: sehr lecker und ein echter Hingucker. Preislich auch im guten Bereich. Wir kommen bestimmt mal wieder. Unser Besuch aus Australien war auch sehr begeistert.

Wir waren Sonntags Abend mit mehreren Paaren da. Für uns das erste Mal! Ich kann mich den anderen Rezensionen nur anschließen: Es stimmt wirklich alles. Eine feine, aber kleine Karte. Das Essen frisch zubereitet; sowohl für das Auge als auch für den Magen sehr gut! Fotos gibt es genügend hier! Wir hatten das Schnitzel; kommt vom Geschmack einem echten Wiener Schnitzel sehr nah! Nur günstiger vom Preis. Wenn man also mal lecker Schnitzel essen möchte, ist die Wundertüte eine gute Wahl. Auch die Bedienung war sehr zuvorkommend, sehr nett, freundlich. Also die Höchstnote: 5 Sterne! Macht weiter so!
