4 euros for Pusta sauce on the meatball Steenporte Telgte 1 euro! Is that even possible?

We had pre-ordered, but it wasn't that busy that evening, but I would still pre-order anyway. The food was very tasty, the selection was quite good, including plenty of vegetarian options.

The tableware was very tastefully chosen, unfortunately, it was the only tasteful thing about the entire evening. I had the fish fillet with vegetables and potatoes. The frozen fish (presumably from a discount store) was barely cooked. The vegetables were a frozen mix with a dollop of hollandaise sauce, which was still completely cold inside. The potatoes had clearly been overcooked for quite some time and kept warm for so long that they no longer had any clean cut edges. The orange peel, which was on the plate for decoration, looked as if it had already adorned other dishes. I was very disappointed; only the dishes I've already described were palatable. I would expect such food in a student cafeteria (and would rather have just eaten a sandwich), but not in a restaurant. Unfortunately, the meals of the others at the table were no better...

I can wholeheartedly recommend the "Alter Westfale" pub, run by Heinz Huesmann. If you're looking for an authentic, traditional German pub with excellent, hearty cuisine, this is the place for you. For me, the food is the absolute highlight. The meat dishes are consistently fantastic, especially the schnitzel – it's divine! It's also always worth asking about the current seasonal specials (for example, the asparagus schnitzel during asparagus season – a dream!). You can taste the quality and the fresh preparation. But it's not just the food that impresses. The atmosphere is wonderfully rustic, typically old-fashioned German, and simply incredibly cozy. You immediately feel at home. On top of that, the service is superb: The team is attentive and friendly, and your beer is served surprisingly quickly. A special treat is the house-distilled schnapps, "Braken" – a must for every resident of Freckenhorst and anyone who wants to try a local specialty! The large hall is also very convenient, as it can be rented for celebrations such as weddings, birthdays, or the local carnival sessions. Important tip: The pub is very popular (especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays) and often packed with regulars. It's essential to reserve in advance to guarantee a table. Conclusion: A thoroughly enjoyable visit; we are always delighted and will definitely be back!
