Great fish restaurant with a nice boss and good service

Today the mussels were probably flies. Absolutely top quality... Any hamburger would have been better.. No thanks, never again...

For my birthday I received a special surprise from Johannes...dessert, sparkling wine and an angel of happiness from Kevelaer. Mussels are so delicious with fried potatoes and brown bread. My girls were blown away, also by the great atmosphere (the guests sang a song to me with the staff). It was such a great evening, we laughed a lot. If you want to eat delicious fish, you have to go to Walsumer Hof. If you don't get enough there, you've done something wrong. Food great, service great.

Quaint fish restaurant right next to the Walsum power plant. I've been eating here three to four times a year for more than 10 years. The spicy “Hitachi” mussels in the winter months are the highlight for me.

Back in the 80s where the boss still looks after his guests, time seems to have stood still here, but in a positive sense. Don't be afraid of the journey, yes it's in the middle of a huge power plant because he was the only one who didn't want to give up his property, like the Gauls did. Pack your cash and go, it's worth it.

Traditional German fish restaurant. The service is really special here. The innkeeper greets everyone with a handshake, you are given excellent advice on choosing your dishes and you are given seconds. Had a good evening. Nevertheless: The fish is great and can shine even with significantly less breading AND Please relax with the second helpings. This leaves so much food left per table. I think that doesn't have to be the case. A reservation is important here. There are 2 or 3 “layers”. A good restaurant for larger groups and those who like traditional classic German fish cuisine. Further back there are 3 bowling alleys that can be booked.

We were there again for the first time in what felt like 15 years. We've always been excited before and this time everything was great too! The price-performance ratio is right, the cozy atmosphere on site and the familiar atmosphere between guests and the owner/service is simply great! We would love to come back to eat mussels and fish!

Really great restaurant. The service is top, the staff very friendly and attentive. Everything was freshly and deliciously prepared.

After a long time we spontaneously went there again. Unfortunately, the quality has noticeably deteriorated. All fish is covered in breading so that you can hardly recognize its own taste. What used to be special is gone (special types of fish in different ways of preparation). The ambience has been the same for tens of years and the dim light doesn't console the fact that it could use some painting. Everything seems a little run down, unfortunately including the toilets from the 1970s, which are difficult to get into if you have walking difficulties. The price/performance ratio is no longer given for what you get. There is endless greasy fried potatoes and fish as a second helping, even though you say you don't want any more. Better normal portions and prices down. Drink prices are also extreme and almost outrageous. Paper placemats are careless and the boss seems completely exhausted and says goodbye to his guests in a very rustic way. It was also strange that everything is recorded electronically, but you still have to pay in cash and at the end you are only told the total amount after listing the dishes and no detailed bill. ;-)

Where should I start, at the beginning of course. A first-class fish restaurant. You are greeted personally by the boss with a handshake, you are on your first name and assigned to the table. The communication is relaxed, friendly and warm. The menu is kept simple and has little funny sayings or comments. There is nothing exotic, just fish from the region, it is explicitly stated on the menu why. Starters such as bowls of fried potatoes and now currently mussels in a spicy broth = very tasty...the bowl is always refilled, you leave the restaurant full...very full. When choosing the main course, you get first-class advice at the table. The fish is so juicy and cooked to perfection, just perfect. Second helpings are often offered, often with any kind of seafood. Salad is seasonal and regional. The whole concept is harmonious and the guest feels like royalty. Even when leaving the restaurant, the boss comes and personally says goodbye to his guests. My conclusion = This restaurant has a new regular customer when it comes to fish. It's worth it! We had a great afternoon. Oh yeah, okay. Note: If you don't like fish you have the option of ordering a pork and chicken schnitzel, but that's a fish restaurant.

Went to the Walsumer Hof fish restaurant for the first time yesterday and absolutely loved it. Our son had his birthday the day before and invited us there. Very cozy inn with plenty of parking and a garden where you can sit outside if you want and the weather permits. There are also bowling alleys, which could be of interest to larger groups/clubs who want to combine leisurely hours together with their hobby and delicious food. Great service and all the staff at the inn were very friendly and accommodating. You can also tell from each individual that they carry out their job with a lot of heart and love. Our son even got a serenade. The food is super delicious and also very plentiful. There was also a second helping. What you can't manage is lovingly packed up to take with you. You can put together your own meal, including several types of fish. The menu is extensive and has something for everyone, including children. Price/performance is absolutely top. I can highly recommend this inn to everyone and will definitely stop by again.

It all depends on what you order. My chicken with mushrooms (without hollaindaise sauce) and baked potatoes was delicious. Mom ordered a potato pancake with cheese and said it was average. Very good dark beer. The decor is quite ok.

It's worth a visit! The owner greets every guest personally and you go home really full from the delicious food. The interior looks authentic.

The somewhat quirky but very cozy fish restaurant has a rustic taproom and an unusual, because rare, beer garden. The all-male service staff are very friendly, empathetic and always available for a casual chat. The dishes, preferably fish, are freshly prepared, explained in detail and served in large portions. The cook (boss?) doesn't miss the opportunity to appear at the table in person and, without being asked, serve up more fish dishes to try. So if you complain about portions that are too small, you have to be able to deal with the aftermath. After we asked that it was our 34th wedding anniversary, we received a very delicious dessert without being asked, with the number 34 and 2 wedding rings made of chocolate sauce. A very nice gesture that we have never experienced before. It was a fantastic experience to have eaten there. A must for fish lovers, we'll be happy to come back, even before our 35th wedding anniversary, promised.

It's been a long time since I've been to the Walsumer Hof and what can I say...still great. Super friendly staff and always have a saying on their lips, but no wonder with the boss😉. Food great as always. When you're full and think "finally done", someone comes over and puts something on the table 🫣😂. We sat outside in the beer garden, it could be a little better looked after. However, we were there to eat and not to a garden show😉.

How good that this still exists: gastronomy with passion and friendliness, creativity and special attention. Thanks to the boss and his team for a wonderful evening in terms of taste and atmosphere! And blessed continued work!

An institution that is second to none. We have been regular guests for over 20 years and are always thrilled. Without any fanfare, great cuisine and top service are offered here at really fair prices. EVERYONE (!!!) is greeted and farewelled by the boss with a handshake, and is greeted with fried potatoes, salad and a few crabs. This is sensational and makes you want more. The map? Around 20 fish dishes, plus a daily recommendation - there's something for EVERYONE. And then the quality of the dishes! Simply unbeatable. And the whole atmosphere is down-to-earth, cozy, friendly and funny. The Walsumer Hof is simply an experience and it wasn't the last time we were there. Today, for the first time, with three generations and our young children, so that the family tradition continues. Thank you Matthias and your great team!

If you're looking for a child-friendly restaurant, you've come to the right place. Food is always served as soon as the plates are empty. You'll definitely get full. Located in a quiet cul-de-sac, there is also enough parking space. Outside you can go without a reservation and spontaneously. We'd love to come back.

We couldn't have had a better experience on our spontaneous visit to Duisburg! The heart still beats here and we felt really comfortable! The waitresses were all friendly and attentive. I've never seen a place like this in the Ruhr area - you feel like Tuback in the old days. The food was excellent, the chef knows exactly what he is doing. We'll definitely come back 🧡👌

Was here for the 5th time in about 15 years. Virtually nothing has happened. Quality of the 🐟 is still great and 😋. Service is still diligent, friendly and also available for a bit of fun. The last fortress on the edge of the Ruhr area just before the Lower Rhine is highly recommended

We can only agree with the other reviews: Unique ambience, delicious, original food and simply great service to the guests: Attentive, friendly, on the ball, and always time for a short conversation. And all of this in a very friendly, not at all fake way. You literally immerse yourself in your own world, including donkeys in the beer garden. We were there yesterday for our 10th wedding anniversary and were absolutely thrilled. Our two boys were also treated very well - the little one wants to go back for his birthday in September because there are mussels there! :-) Thanks in any case for a great evening!

Very bizarre environment (Steag) - but just great

Nach längerer Zeit sind wir spontan mal wieder in den Walsumer Hof gefahren und hochzufrieden wieder abgereist. Diese Herzlichkeit von der Begrüßung bis zur Verabschiedung, die Urigkeit des Lokals und die unfassbare Qualität der Gerichte sind fast schon einzigartig. Wer Fisch mag, muß hierher kommen.

Four of us had dinner here yesterday. The staff was very friendly. The handshake from the boss was hard but warm. We sat outside in a cozy, rustic atmosphere. When it came to eating...unfortunately you could hardly distinguish between the individual types of fish due to the breaded surface, which was a shame. I would have liked vegetables as a side dish, which unfortunately wasn't offered. All in all, a nice, fun evening with plenty of but average food.

I've been raving about this place for 20 years. But fish is not my thing. I thought so until today. Rustic, detailed and simply comfortably furnished, I was taught otherwise today. I have rarely received such professional and warm service at the same time. I skeptically announced my divided relationship with water bodies and now I'm just annoyed because I didn't dare to go there sooner. I had already heard a lot in advance and was very excited. The welcome was very warm and we had a reservation for 10 people. The restaurant is decorated with catch and fishing utensils. The service staff are very warm in their own special way. The portion sizes are large and people are happy to refill. There were two birthday children in our group. Both received a dessert from the house and there was also champagne for our group to toast. Even I, as a non-fish eater, found something on the menu. I liked that the map was clearly laid out. I think that wasn't our last visit there.

A HAMMER location. What can I say: the area is adventurous, the rest is brilliant. We felt really comfortable and ate very, very tasty. Portions huge. Thank God we were there in the afternoon. Otherwise they probably wouldn't have gotten to sleep due to overfeeding. Speaking of which: we were allowed to spend the night in the parking lot with the motorhome.
