Walkmühlen-Restaurant in Mülheim an der Ruhr

We had reserved a table but were assigned one in the aisle. It was very cold and uncomfortable there. We asked for a different table, as there were a few free. This worked out. The red wine we had chosen was then sold out. The Prosecco we ordered was flat, but was promptly replaced. We were asked if it was better now. The beef cheeks we ordered arrived very quickly. The two pieces of beef cheek were just so-so. Two or three other pieces of meat were definitely not beef cheeks! The amuse-bouche (white bread and olives with dip) arrived after we had already started eating. With the words, "I forgot." All in all, we have eaten much better for €77.00. We will certainly not be coming back and cannot recommend this restaurant.

We celebrated our wedding at the Walkmühle two days ago. The room was perfect for 30 adults and 11 children, right next to a large playroom. It was beautifully decorated, and we were even able to add our own decorations. The food was fantastic! The menu we had planned beforehand was absolutely perfect. The children had their own separate buffet table. We received very attentive and service-oriented service. When the music became too loud for the neighbors, we were offered an alternative room where we were able to celebrate happily until after midnight! We highly recommend this wedding venue. We felt very comfortable there!

Unfortunately, we cannot understand the 5-star reviews! We ordered pheasant breast and goose. Both dishes were served lukewarm. The pheasant breast was served in pieces and was completely overcooked, resulting in a tough and dry texture! The side dishes, sauerkraut (canned?) and mashed potatoes, were disappointing in terms of taste. The goose dish also seemed as if it had been hastily prepared in the kitchen and then kept warm for a while. Aside from the service and ambiance, we absolutely do not recommend this restaurant and it is not worth the money!!!

The staff provided very friendly and attentive service. Everything felt so welcoming and family-like. As a group or regular meeting, you feel welcome, whether you come with 20 people or just four. Our group always enjoys coming back.

From the moment we arrived, the friendly team made us feel welcome and well taken care of. The food was excellent: the liver, soups, and meat and fish dishes were not only beautifully presented but also absolutely delicious. Bringing our own birthday cake was no problem at all. The staff even took care of serving, which we greatly appreciated. Two minor points, which weren't major issues but would be helpful for future visits: • One dish on the menu wasn't available that evening, and we weren't informed beforehand – a quick heads-up before ordering would have made it easier to consider alternatives. • The toys in the play area were quite worn; a few new or refurbished toys would perfectly complement the otherwise lovely atmosphere. Despite these minor issues, it was a wonderful evening that we thoroughly enjoyed. A clear recommendation for the Walkmühle, both for good food and for family-friendly occasions such as birthdays.

I ordered goose to go and was so disappointed we didn't eat in. It looked incredibly cozy and the service was fantastic. Since my father requires a lot of care, we couldn't eat there, so I took the food to my parents' house. It was beautifully presented and still looked great after the drive, and most importantly, it tasted absolutely amazing. The dessert we received was even better, and the price was really reasonable for such a delicious meal. I highly recommend it!

We were very disappointed; our daughter had to wait two hours for her pizza. At first, we were very well looked after, but then suddenly no one came to our table anymore. The owner himself came out to bring us a bottle of wine, but after we received our food (a really tiny portion of goose – the competition offers much larger portions for the price), and our child still hadn't received anything after five minutes, we asked the owner if the pizza was coming soon. We received a passive-aggressive response that he didn't know because he hadn't taken the order. No one came to our table to ask if everything was alright. All in all, the ambiance is nice, but the service is truly awful, and the food is just so-so.

A long-established restaurant with excellent service and a changing menu of seasonal dishes. Here, classic, attentive service to the guest is still a way of life.

It's no longer an Italian restaurant at all. The prices are absolutely outrageous in relation to the portion size. Kaiserschmarrn with nine slices on a plate and a dollop of cream costs a whopping nine euros! A side salad in a mini bowl with cheap lettuce and three corn kernels. It tasted okay, but nothing more. We paid €165 for four people without an appetizer and the aforementioned dessert. We wouldn't set foot in this restaurant again.

One particular waiter's behavior was so strange, uninspiring, and eccentric that it was simply inappropriate. Instead of pleasant and professional service, one felt rather uncomfortable. It's a shame, because the food and ambiance deserved a much better overall impression.

The catering for our wedding was simply fantastic! We were already thrilled at the rehearsal dinner, but on the wedding day, our expectations were even exceeded. The food and drinks were not only incredibly delicious, but also perfectly coordinated down to the smallest detail. Our guests are still raving about the buffet and the fantastic service – friendly, attentive, and absolutely professional. The food was okay. The asparagus cream starter soup was very tasteless. The table was covered in crumbs. A "party" was playing live music just 5 meters away in the room. Loud. Intrusive. Eastern/Italian pop music. OMG. This is completely unacceptable. Then please close for other guests. We won't be back.

We went to this restaurant for the first time on Easter Sunday for the Easter menu. The weather was nice and we were able to sit outside in the garden under the beautiful trees. The listed half-timbered structure also contributes to the beautiful atmosphere. A piano player provides background music. The staff is attentive and quite quick, although it is also quite busy inside. The asparagus cream soup was delicious, lamb as the main course and a Dubai-style tiramisu. With drink, coffee and tip €50 per person. Everything is ok for what is offered. I would have liked a little more for the main course, that's almost 5 stars. The croquettes were just a little too hard for me and could have tasted better. The lamb was a little under-seasoned, but like everything, it was a matter of taste. Complaining at a high level. We will definitely eat something from the normal menu again.

We were there for a crime dinner. The actors did their job very well, which couldn't be said about the kitchen. Our table - with 10 people - was missing a main course. The waiter was informed, the next waiter again and we also informed the counter. Still no food. The innkeeper was now also spoken to and reacted unfriendly. When the food finally arrived and was of poor quality, all the other guests had already eaten. There was no excuse for it? No more 'Walkmühle'!

The food itself wasn't bad. But the big thing is the portion size. If I order an xxl schnitzel with fries and salad, I expect that too and not a mini schnitzel with three fries and half a salad. And 100 euros were spent on that.

Been there several times, always delicious. Except for one time we were there for a birthday party at lunchtime and the dishes weren't so well made and some were different, for example the mango sauce tasted different and looked different too. I think there was another cook there at lunchtime

The atmosphere in the restaurant is simply magical. The place radiates cosiness and warmth and invites you to linger longer. It is definitely an insider tip for all foodies looking for a special culinary experience. Many of our friends were at the Fulling Mill for the first time, and we can safely say that this was definitely not their last time. The restaurant has attracted many new guests and we are sure they will return soon. As a starter we chose the antipasti selection and baked oysters. Both dishes were not only excellent in terms of taste, but also lovingly presented - a perfect introduction to the menu. For the main course we chose the salt-crusted sea bass, which was prepared directly at the table. This preparation gave the fish a particularly aromatic taste and a delicate consistency - simply heavenly! There was also spaghetti made from a parmesan wheel with truffles, which was a real treat for the palate. The combination of creamy cheese and the intense aroma of the truffle was simply delicious. The crowning glory of our menu was the dessert variation. This combination of various sweet delicacies was not only a visual delight, but also a true revelation in terms of taste. Every bite was a delight and left us with big smiles. The service staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, which made our evening even more enjoyable. The entire stay was characterized by a high standard - both in terms of cuisine and service. We would like to thank you very much for this wonderful evening and look forward to coming back soon. This restaurant has found its way into our hearts and stomachs and we highly recommend it!

Spent a really nice day in the Walkmühle restaurant. Attentive staff, great ambience and, above all, fantastic food. I've never eaten anything so good and I've been to many restaurants. The tables there are set with white tablecloths and cloth napkins. You can hardly see it anymore but it is particularly inviting. The meal had something for every palate. Things started well with the starters. A colorful selection of vitello tonnato, salmon canapes, roast beef, grilled vegetables and various dips. For the main course, the steak was cooked to the right point. The crowning finale was a variety of desserts. I would like to thank the staff who organized this day so well. A big thank you and praise to the kitchen. The restaurant deserves more than 5 stars. Everyone should let themselves be pampered there with delicious food, cool drinks and friendly staff. Keep it up. Today I ate at the Walkmühle with my family for the first time and I was completely satisfied. From the ambience to the friendly service to the food, everything was right. The service staff was always attentive and very accommodating. The food was very tasty and prepared at the table. We had a salt-crusted wild bass and beef tomahawk. This is definitely not available in every restaurant. There is also a large room where the little ones can play a lot. It was definitely not my last visit to this restaurant.

We were invited to dinner today! We are impressed by the ambience and especially by the food! A tomahawk steak was prepared in the Beefer in front of us. You don't see something like that every day. After a long time (previously often) we went to the fulling mill (new owner) with great curiosity and anticipation. The rather frosty temperature forced us not to take off our jackets. The awkward employee was overwhelmed with the task, no wine or menu advice. A 30 min.! Friendly and casual conversation with the owner gave the kitchen enough momentum for the main course. Think! The skrei was thickly breaded, dry and inedible, the "second" one was identical! My wife's main course (veal cheeks) was good. We skipped dessert and looked forward to our warm home. We generally expect and recommend more professionalism in all matters. We won't be coming back any time soon.

We were there for the first time on December 25, 24. We could only choose from one menu. For example, goose breast. Starter soup which was the best from the menu. But we will definitely come back again. And eat a la carte because we really liked the service and ambience.

Actually everything was satisfactory when we ate there with 20 people at Christmas, until after we had all paid they said there were still 86 euros left for drinks...almost impossible. Then everyone would have only paid for their meal, without drinks, which was not the case. It's hard to understand when, as a guest, you no longer notice what is being recorded in the cash registers.

The restaurant was cozy, with an open fireplace and generally nicely decorated. The food was very tasty, of course the portions were very generous and the prices were high. But that's how it is in this type of place and we knew that beforehand. We were there at Christmas with around 20 people and we were told by phone that in addition to the Christmas menu (3-4 course menus) the normal menu would also be served. That didn't happen, even after asking several times. Our small children, who of course didn't have a 3-course meal, didn't get any dessert, so they looked at it first and then ordered it separately. The worst thing was, after the first ones had paid and left, the rest had to pay an outstanding amount of 86 euros, which is actually inexplicable. This amount was supposed to have been made up exclusively of drinks. That would mean no one paid for any drink. Which of course wasn't the case. Unfortunately it couldn't be clarified, but something went wrong. One person had to pay for a drink that he ordered but didn't get. This annoying incident really spoiled our meal. This payment system, where food and drinks are only added to the back and the guest has no overview, should be reconsidered.

We had a Christmas goose delivered. It was on time, but unfortunately not yet disassembled, which meant that the side dishes were cold in the meantime. Dumplings and red cabbage were from a jar, the marzipan apple was small. The sauce was very tasty, but unfortunately not enough. The goose was quite dry and not very seasoned. It was an experience, but next year we'll prefer to prepare the food ourselves again. Delivery is not recommended.

Christmas Day...disappointment across the board!! ...nothing worked. Despite reserving a table in the fireplace room, we didn't get one... Apparently something went wrong. We were offered a tiny table in one of the many rooms in the corner...an impertinence!! Finally we sat upstairs in an almost empty room....no Christmas atmosphere....and then a very bad menu!! ...the soup and the skin course were cold...just disappointing!! An espresso and a Ramazotti as compensation... very poor!! Huge disappointment at Christmas!!.....a shame...a shame... ...dear boss, think about it...

If you want good food, you've come to the wrong place!! The food was little and cold. The meat was dry and not edible. Staff unfriendly and very long waiting times...a German course would be helpful in the restaurant. Completely overpriced. No more!!

Very well attended restaurant with slightly upscale cuisine that has attention to detail. Even connoisseurs notice the loving details on the plates. Whether it was a change of table or a food allergy, no wish was left unfulfilled. The bill is passed unobtrusively, waiters are very attentive, and the interior is lovingly and cleanly decorated. Reasonably priced for this type of food/drinks. Anyone who has ever eaten here knows that you should come to the table here and not have it delivered. Then there would be fewer negative reviews. The kitchen thrives on “cooked to perfection”, so a delivery can always be a risk. Thank you for this first great impression. This means you have been able to gain new regular guests - us!

Disaster! On Christmas Eve the hosts ordered goose including side dishes for 8 people. The agreed delivery time would have been 6 p.m. Delivered around 8 p.m. after several phone calls. Unfortunately, the food was cold, the goose breast was dry and tough. The side dishes (red cabbage and dumplings) probably came from a supermarket shelf. The hosts felt really sorry for us. That was it for us with this restaurant. One star is still too many...

We were there on December 24th. It was our first time there with 5 people and it will definitely stay that way. Price and performance were out of proportion that day! Food lukewarm to cold, wrong drinks, careless piano player (no Christmas songs), overwhelmed service staff. However, the playroom for children is of course a great idea!

This year, a father-daughter goose dinner in the run-up to Christmas was a welcome reason to visit the fulling mill. As a result, we also ordered two goose legs, which turned out to be a great choice; both the taste of the potato dumplings (one more would be welcome), the delicately seasoned chestnut sauce, the deliciously prepared red cabbage, the aromatic braised apple, and of course the taste of the main characters themselves - goose legs - was simply heavenly! Like homemade might be well-intentioned in this context, but it doesn't really capture the experience... The individual components were seasoned so well that we were in complete agreement as we ate that it was clear for 2025 where our father-daughter goose dinner would take place. If the service is good in a wonderful atmosphere - not annoying, absolutely friendly - then the service is absolutely worth every euro. Gladly again, absolutely recommended!

Yesterday, December 8th, 2024, we had dinner with 5 people in the Walkmühlen Restaurant. I would like to start by saying that mistakes are human. When it comes to mistakes, it is important to deal with them openly and honestly. As well as a confident approach from the business owner to ensure that the guests still have a nice evening. We definitely reserved the table 5 months ago because there was a special occasion and we were looking forward to the evening. We come to the fireplace room, where there are definitely 8 round tables set for up to 10 people. The tables were beautifully set, but the room is simply far too small for the number of guests planned. It looks like a wedding party is expected. We sit down at the table with 5 people and only 3 people get a menu. We wait 2 minutes, but nothing happens. Luckily we saw where the menus were and then took two more menus ourselves. We sat in the middle of the room, next to our table there were already two other tables occupied with guests. Suddenly the staff brings another table into the room, for 4 people. The table was, so to speak, carried over our heads to a window front. So that there was room for the table there, the table for 10 people was moved behind us, including the chairs. And did this several times until everything found its place. The background noise was unpleasant. Of the starters ordered, only 4 out of 5 were served. We had to wait 10 minutes for number 5. Three starters were ordered identically. Of the 5 main courses, only 4 were served. The missing main course was identical to another one from our group. The subsequent delivery took almost 15 minutes. We politely declined. Explanation and apology only upon request. It was not asked whether there should be a total bill, not whether cash or card. We only received a partial invoice. Thanks to the Walkmühle team. You spoiled our dinner for a special occasion. And no restaurant needs a boss who ducks away when things get difficult. Absolutely no recommendation.

We are currently in a hotel in Essen and for this reason we decided to order from this restaurant. After waiting 1.5 hours for our food, we decided to call the restaurant in question and ask. Our order came, but unfortunately we were very disappointed. The noodles had no salt or other spices. The pizza was absolutely unconvincing in terms of taste. The dough was way too thick and you chewed on it like it was a WHOLE pack of HubbaBubba. I've never left a negative review, but that was really a disgrace. I would love to give -1 stars!!

We went to the restaurant for dinner with our family on the occasion of our "golden wedding anniversary". It was a very nice evening. Everything fit. A separate room, the table very nicely decorated, good food, good service. Although the restaurant was full to capacity this Saturday evening (November 30th, 2024), everything worked perfectly. At the end the boss congratulated us with a bottle of Prosecco!! Unanimous decision: this will be the family restaurant for the next celebration.

When I ordered over the phone, I could have guessed that the food wouldn't be good this time, the lady on the phone was very unfriendly even though we often order from the Walkmühle and are often there. After 1.5 hours the order arrived, 2x XL schnitzel with fries, the fries were half cooked and the schnitzels had a pile of breading and an indefinable rag (meat) inside. This was by far the worst meal from the fulling mill we have ever had. I regret giving another 9 euro tip.

We ordered artist catering. Our wishes were taken into account, even when changes had to be made at relatively short notice. The staff was great! Took very good care on site. I can absolutely recommend the catering service! Price and performance are right here! Thank you!

We ordered catering from this restaurant. We are a large group of artists, and we have many nuances in food, it was important to choose a catering company that listens to us. It's a shame that a restaurant as renowned as the Walkmühle is declining in such a way. We ordered two schnitzels: an "XXL" pork schnitzel and a Viennese veal schnitzel. However, XXL was only the packaging in which the small, poor, half-burnt schnitzel for 18 euros seemed completely lost. As a special attention from the chef, there was a little addition on the salad: a dollop of some other dish with rice (yuck, the salad ended up straight in the trash). The portions of salad and fries were also quite small. I'm happy to pay a few euros more (18 euros for a pork schnitzel!), but then I expect the same quality. A little tip: Instead of the fancy, personalized stickers that indicate that the Styrofoam packaging can be put in the oven (probably only when it is switched off, because the packaging itself says "max 90°"), it would be more helpful if to write the dishes on the packaging. At first glance, pork and veal schnitzel were indistinguishable from each other. It's a shame about the good old fulling mill. We won't be ordering here again.

I celebrated my 70th birthday there today with my whole family. The food deserves 5 stars, the service was excellent and d Has ambience as well. Since we had 4 small children with us, the playroom was just right. They conquered it straight away and we were able to spend a relaxing afternoon. I will definitely recommend the restaurant.

Great restaurant in a good, quiet location, very tasty dishes and very friendly and courteous service. Absolute recommendation!
