It was always there 30 years ago. It's still worth a visit. Prices in the beer garden are still reasonable. And the Auszogne ​​beer still tastes good. Relax in the afternoon with jazz.

The food wasn't anything special, but the terrace is truly beautiful and offers a relaxed atmosphere. A visit is especially worthwhile in summer: good service, friendly staff, and live jazz music make the evening a special experience. So, if you come here less for the food and more for the atmosphere, you'll definitely be satisfied.

Hello – we're from Pullach and often go to the wawi (a beer garden) – today, Sunday evening, we wanted to quickly go to the beer garden with friends. But I didn't want to pay the €2.50 parking fee for an empty parking space and an empty beer garden on principle. Fortunately, there are other beer gardens whose business model isn't based on pointless parking fees.

Experience in the beer garden (outdoors): There's a large area with beer benches and an area with tablecloths... for which you have to reserve in advance! Delicious food. Great live music! However, with the self-service, you're not quite sure where to go—the beginning, the end, where's what?

Tucked away in Pullach, this authentic Bavarian restaurant captures the essence of tradition with its warm hospitality, expansive beer garden, and vibrant live music. Beautiful beer garden with live music in the summer. Especially pleasant during the week, as finding a seat is easy and queuing for a beer is quicker. It's a great place to walk to. Anyone arriving by car is either handicapped or naive. Parking is limited.

Very poor quality food. Would not recommend. Ribs and chicken were very dry. 3€ for 10 mins (per kid) on the Trampolin! There are better Biergarten around Munich and the surrounding area.

Our first visit to a Munich beer garden. We were very surprised by so many visitors at lunchtime on a normal weekday. The service was friendly and courteous. The music started out a bit slower, but after a short while, the musicians warmed up and started playing accordingly.

Just ate the worst spare ribs ever in a beer garden. Oven-cooked to death, grilled for a maximum of 2 minutes. The special sauce is a curry sauce, which is probably also poured over the currywurst. It tastes artificial, below fast-food level. How can you trample on Bavarian beer garden tradition like that? A long shake of the head...

Beautifully situated beer garden above the Isar River with comfortable benches. A jazz band usually plays. The selection of drinks and food is extensive. Unfortunately, the grilled fish and, occasionally, the chicken have been kept warm for a while and are therefore a bit dry.

A very nice beer garden where you can linger, delicious beer, good food, and simply fantastic Bavarian music. And if you're still up for it, there's a nice mini-golf course down by the parking lot.

One of the most beautiful beer gardens in Munich. Directly on the high bank of the Isar River. Well-maintained and of good quality. Benches with backrests. Music (jazz) daily. Prices are upscale but reasonable. Be sure to try the Auszognen beer (€5). A liter of beer is €11.

We visited the Waldwirtschaft today (Friday lunchtime) and had a super-relaxed visit. The beer garden was pleasantly empty, we found a nice spot in the shade, and a small jazz band was playing – subtle and very atmospheric. The half chicken with coleslaw was truly delicious, and we didn't have to wait in line. The parking lot was also empty; it's free during the week (€2.50 on weekends). Highly recommended!

A wonderful, traditional beer garden. Still THE beer garden above the Isar River. Tip: Pretzels, Auszogne, and potato salad. Live jazz music and a children's playground. And...the beer is delicious, too.

The beer garden with live music and a restaurant on the edge of the Isar Valley is the perfect place. We were lucky; after a hike along the Isar River, it started to rain. So it was quiet and there was free parking.

We love this Biergarten. You can reach it comfortably from Munich (~5 miles). The food, service and offered selection is regular for a Biergarten. Prices are a bit higher but ambience is best.

As is traditional, food is allowed, but drinks must be purchased on site. A playground for children is available. Parking is subject to a fee.

The atmosphere is truly great! The food (in the self-service area) is truly mediocre and not quite right in terms of price. The value for money isn't right. Still, it's a really nice beer garden.

A paradise for all these years, with Dixieland, a wonderful location, and very friendly staff. It's worth the trip from the north of Munich.

As a DJ, I was able to provide musical accompaniment for a birthday party at Wawi Großhesselohe, and I was absolutely thrilled! The food was outstanding—a feast for the eyes and taste. The service was simply top-notch; the staff was attentive, friendly, and always there to help. The atmosphere was perfect for a lively celebration, and the guests clearly had a fantastic time. I would love to come back and can wholeheartedly recommend Wawi Großhesselohe!

We always enjoy going to the beer garden. It's one of the few places where there's music every day. We've even celebrated birthdays here.

Recommended for a break with a drink

The beer garden and restaurant are good. The service is also very friendly. What was absolutely outrageous, however, was the parking attendant. It's a complete two-tier system there. We drove up in a small car and weren't allowed to park in the parking lot, so we had to turn around. My friend, who was two cars behind me in a Mercedes, was allowed to park. The parking fee was €8.50.

It's a very, very beautiful, pleasant, and wonderful beer garden with a great place to relax. The service and staff are really friendly, helpful, and simply excellent. You should just visit once, then you'll understand, for example, that I'm not exaggerating with my praise and satisfaction... The price/performance ratio is simply top-notch (great). Hopefully, it stays that way! We'll always enjoy a trip there. Best regards, until next time.

A very pleasant brewery to hang out in, with a wide variety of food and drink options. We didn't eat anything but would love to try. There's live music, and the place is quite spacious and attractive.

Nice, large self-service beer garden, with mostly ample parking. Good location. Well-tapped, decently chilled beer! The food, however, generally has room for improvement! The sausage salad could be better seasoned; the vinegar-oil mixture is NOTHING, but unfortunately, I've seen that from other beer gardens: too much oil, too little vinegar, and too little seasoning. The freshly prepared (!) beef burger was unfortunately completely overcooked, hard. Almost black, and if I had noticed that when I checked it out, I would have sent it back immediately! Next time, I'll check it out before I pay for it and take it to my table! At least the pretzels were fresh, and the Obazda (traditional Austrian sausage) was okay. Otherwise, the food would only get 2 stars! The staff often seem very listless, business as usual; there could be a lot more positive energy! Somehow, you feel like you're disturbing people. Then you could just close the bar and sell only bottles! 4 stars just about because the beer was decent and the location and atmosphere, also thanks to the music, are good. But opinions may differ here... not everyone likes Dixieland. Update 2025: Parking now costs €2.50, so paying guests continue to be charged. This could be addressed better, hence the downgrade from 4 to 3 stars.

During the week, there was a live brass band playing pleasant jazz music. Beer was a bit more expensive than in other beer gardens, but the food was good and affordable. Next door is a small, shady mini-golf course.

A very good traditional menu. There's also something for vegans and vegetarians. The beer garden is an absolute highlight, especially in the summer when the weather is nice; it's a must for everyone. The service is exceptionally good, and the staff are super friendly and attentive. We'll be back whenever we're in Munich.

The Waldwirtschaft Wawi is a true institution in Munich and a wonderful place for Bavarian hospitality and delicacies. The decor is quaint, traditional, and exactly what you'd expect from a real inn and beer garden. The food is hearty and down-to-earth – whether roast pork, Kaiserschmarrn, or a traditional snack platter, everything tastes authentic and delicious. There's also a great selection of Bavarian beers and beautiful live music. The service is warm and attentive, just as you'd expect from a traditional inn. Anyone who wants to experience a piece of authentic Munich inn culture should definitely stop by!

Great beer garden with fish and chips and live music. Located on a hillside overlooking the Isar River. A bit of a breeze on the edge. Very pleasant at 35⁰. I didn't give it a fifth star because of the price of the beer. €5.50 for a shandy is too much.

This restaurant is worth the trip. We made a reservation at the restaurant, got a nice table, delicious local beer, and traditional food – fantastic. Music was playing in the beer garden next door, and a wonderful evening unfolded. The servers were attentive without being intrusive. And the highlight of the evening was the women's restroom: tasteful, clean, fragrant, and beautiful. Thanks for this backdrop to the family dinner.

The parents of ny family rfrend Pater owned this beergarden for decades before selling it circa 25years ago. What a joy to find the new owners have invested and Improved this amazing space. If you are staying in Munich and want to try out the Hofbrauhaus and Englidh garden then please consider waldwirschaft. In season the setting, the beer , the food is far superior especially in season. The 15 minute railtrip on thev S7 and 20 minute walk will pay you back in spadefulls. That is a promise.

June 28, 2025, around 6:00 PM, a very unfriendly parking attendant. An hour later, our friends also argued with him because he was unfriendly.

Visited the Waldwirtschaft again after at least 10 years. A lovely bike ride along the Isar River, and as a reward, I was treated to the popular spare ribs and a local Obazda (traditional Austrian sausage), along with an oven-fresh pretzel and a cold shandy. A lovely shaded terrace and live music create a cozy atmosphere. Always worth a visit, and above all, not overcrowded despite the holiday 👍🏽

A typical Munich beer garden. The live music is very pleasant, and not just the unpretentious, feel-good music you'd find elsewhere. We'd be happy to come back.

On a wonderfully sunny day, we spent a wonderful afternoon in the beer garden – a true summer highlight! The beer garden was well attended, but not overcrowded, so it was easy to find a nice spot in the shade of a chestnut tree. The relaxed and informal atmosphere was particularly noteworthy – whether families with children, couples, or groups of friends, everyone felt welcome. The live band provided a stylish, unobtrusive background atmosphere with pleasant jazz music, perfectly fitting the ambiance. The food was consistently good – fresh, hearty, and delicious. From classic Obazda (traditional Bavarian sausage) to bratwurst and summer salad, there was everything a beer garden heart could desire. The beer arrived chilled and freshly tapped – just right for the weather. A place to feel good and come back again – especially when the sun is shining and the jazz is playing!

The music is usually something special and makes up for the typical beer garden weaknesses. And: the seating there is more comfortable than the beer garden tables.

One of Munich's best beer gardens. The waitress area is particularly recommended. High-quality, lovingly prepared food awaits you here. While expensive, it's certainly worth the ambiance and service. Especially in summer, the trees and parasols provide cooling shade, where the beer tastes excellent while listening to pleasant live jazz music. The beer garden, as well as the miniature golf course around the corner, also offer plenty for children, making this an ideal family weekend destination.

Saturday with the family on the restaurant terrace, not in the self-service beer garden. The food was okay, but the medium-rare roasted onions didn't work. It was overcooked. The jazz band in their striped shirts was annoying. They played in the self-service area (which is fine), but then marched off during the break and wandered around the terrace with their hats like beggars. Sorry, that's not possible. Starting at 9:45 p.m., lounge music played over the speakers at such a volume that you couldn't have a conversation. Our request to the waiter was ignored. Maybe she didn't understand, it was so loud. Our waiter sat comfortably at the bar in the restaurant from 9 p.m. onward, watching the Champions League final. For that kind of money, you'd expect significantly more, or significantly less music...

The food was very good. The service was a bit hectic, but it was also quite quick. Highly recommended.

We were invited to a colleague's retirement party. The 70 or so guests were greeted at around 5 p.m. in the Waldwirtschaft's covered outdoor area/beer garden (unfortunately, the weather was a bit cloudy). The staff was very friendly and engaging, and they promptly and attentively served drinks, along with delicious bread and butter spreads. Afterwards, we were invited into the dining room. Large round tables were set with white tablecloths, cloth napkins, cutlery, and glasses. The attentive staff quickly provided us with our desired drinks, and as an appetizer, a Bavarian buffet was set up on the prepared tables. The subsequent main course (a meat platter with schnitzel, duck, and meatballs, complemented by red cabbage, dumplings, and sauce) was delicious, and the final dessert selection of Kaiserschmarren (sweet pancakes), plum compote, apple fritters, and vanilla ice cream provided the group with a wonderful foundation for a fantastic farewell evening!

We will be visiting the Waldwirtschaft again in a few days. The restaurant is located on the banks of the Isar River in the suburbs of Munich. You can dine outdoors under the shade of the trees while enjoying the view of the Isar River, which is very comfortable. Highly recommended! 👍👍👍👍👍
