Waldfee in München

From the way it looked, I didn't expect to find good food. But what a surprise! I only had a salad because I wanted Kaiserschmarrn. My salad had a delicious dressing, and the Kaiserschmarrn was heavenly! Greetings to the kitchen! 😉

We had Wiener Schnitzel. It wasn't anything special. The breading wasn't crispy enough, too pale and soggy, and just tasted like breadcrumbs. The fried potatoes should have been crispier. The service was very attentive and friendly. The ambiance was original, but it got too loud when the restaurant was full. There are an unusually large number of benches, meaning no backrests. That would have been difficult for me.

We had dinner here with our two children (5 and 7). Since we had traveled from Hamburg and it was a spontaneous recommendation, we hadn't made a reservation. There weren't actually any tables available, but because we arrived early, we were able to get a table that allowed us plenty of time to eat, even though it was reserved for someone else. The restaurant staff were very flexible, thank you! In our opinion, the food was delicious, and all four of us thoroughly enjoyed it. We highly recommend this restaurant!

Delicious Austrian cuisine at fair prices and with great service! Fried chicken salad, Fiakergulasch (a traditional Austrian goulash), Zwiebelrostbraten (roast beef with onions)... all excellent. They also offer great non-alcoholic alternatives to Spitz (a type of Austrian beer)! Reservations are highly recommended.

The ambiance is...special. Interesting choice of interior design. Interesting use of free will. The staff was mostly friendly. The food was good, but we waited 50 minutes, even though the menu stated a 20-minute wait. If you get lost there like we did, it's OK, but I wouldn't recommend it or go there again. The Kaiserschmarrn was good, but veeeery sweet, almost too sweet.

Two stars for the food are only thanks to the service, who were truly courteous and responsive. I ordered tortellini, which was recommended as the weekly special. The dough was hard—as if someone had fried it in a pan with oil. The portion was ridiculous—no comparison to my family's. The meal was then replaced—the Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle) were okay (me). The Kaiserschmarrn (smothered pancakes) were undercooked and mushy. I'm extremely disappointed—that never happens to me.

We were traveling from Hamburg to Munich and spontaneously asked if there was a table available. We received super friendly service and the food was simply unbelievably delicious 🤩 A very rustic ambiance, but it just fits. We would definitely come back on our next visit to Munich. Thank you for the delicious food.

A quirky hole-in-the-wall with great Austrian food. They had a great selection of beers and wines, and a full authentic menu (which happened to be handwritten). The staff was very friendly and service was quick. We’ll definitely be back if we’re in the area!

The three of us had dinner on October 16, 1925. We ordered two Wiener schnitzels and a salad with chicken schnitzel. The Wiener schnitzels consisted of gray, tough meat, the edges burned under the breading. The breading was half a centimeter thick and saturated with cheap frying oil. A Wiener schnitzel should be fried in butter, not deep-fried. It was the worst schnitzel I've ever eaten! And even though we left out the breading, we were still sick the next day! The salad came with practically no dressing! Never again!

The food was good. I had the veal goulash. There was a bit less meat for my taste, but otherwise everything was great, and the service was friendly. You should make a reservation in advance, just to be on the safe side. Even during the week.

After a few years, we returned to the Waldfee for dinner before heading to the Lustspielhaus. The food is still really good, the menu very extensive – I could probably find something new for days without having to eat the same thing twice. My blackberry spritz was also excellent. Unfortunately, the tables were mixed up when I ordered dessert, so I didn't get the apricot dumplings I'd been looking forward to all week. It can happen, no problem – still a real shame. One point deducted for the noise level: once the place is full, it becomes difficult to hold a conversation.

We looked up the best Kaiserschmarnn in Munich - this place was on the list and it DELIVERED. So delicious - perfect mixture of caramelization and soft dough. The entrees were delicious, too, but the 'schmarnn was quite memorable. The decor is quirky and a little different. Feels very authentic, full of locals. Service was attentive. Prices reasonable.

It was a bad day, but we had sun at lunch and a wheat beer. The Wiener schnitzel wasn't worth the money. The breading was heavy, the schnitzel was thin and tough, the fried potatoes were moderately warm and bland, and there was only jam instead of cranberries.

Delicious. Very tasty and hearty vegetarian options. Owner or manager was very friendly and made friends with our toddler.

After an excursion, we wanted some good Kaiserschmarrn. Google suggested they had it here. And they had an absolutely delicious Kaiserschmarrn! And a fried chicken salad with a wonderful dressing, three types of dumplings that were divine because they were so fluffy, and filled dumplings – all the dishes were absolutely worth the money! The service was very friendly, and we ended the day happy and satisfied. We would love to come back.

Highly recommended. Excellent pasta with truffles and cheese dumplings. Reservations are recommended for lunch (I don't know if they are for dinner as well); luckily, we managed to get a shared table even without a reservation. Despite the full house, the service (the manager?) was stress-resistant, fast, professional, and extremely friendly. We'd be happy to return!

Hello, the forest fairy! The restaurant focuses on authentic Austrian dishes. The management is very customer-oriented, and the service is Austrian-style, fast—that's fine. The food is excellent and delicious. Definitely recommended.

Unique Kaiserschmarren. No journey is too far ❤️

During a day trip to Füssen, we got a hankering for some good Kaiserschmarrn and came across this restaurant through reviews. Since it was on our way to Landshut, we spontaneously decided to try the advertised dessert. Visually, the restaurant is charming at best, but this was more than made up for by the very friendly service. Each of us had our own dish and was very satisfied. The salad with fried chicken had a delicious dressing, and the meat was tender and juicy. The filled dumplings were also excellent. My trio of dumplings was excellent. The dumplings weren't as dense as in other restaurants, but fluffy and well-seasoned. Afterward, we had the long-awaited Kaiserschmarrn for dessert. We've eaten many of them and were very curious to see how it would fare at the Waldfee. The result was absolutely fantastic. The freshness and fluffiness of the pastry was incredible. The Schmarrn was cooked to perfection. For us, this was the best Kaiserschmarrn we've ever had. Many thanks to the kitchen. Maybe we were lucky because we were there in the afternoon when it wasn't busy, but the food was excellent and we're happy to have another culinary tip for trips to Munich.

Our service was impeccable. We liked the ambiance. The outdoor area with its flower boxes is also pretty. However, we find the backless benches in the dining room quite tiring. We highly recommend against the veal schnitzel with roasted potatoes. We ordered both versions offered. Both veal schnitzels were fried in oil that was too cold. The breading was light, beige, dripping with oil, and not crispy at all. The roasted potatoes were made from floury potatoes. As a result, the roasted potatoes were an unevenly heated, soggy mess with brown spots, a bit of parsley and caraway, and a very strange aftertaste. And the appearance of the Kaiserschmarrn at the next table alone made us refrain from ordering. We went there twice, the first and last time. Perhaps on some days, the chefs working are simply not skilled or aren't experts.

The food was quite good. Not bad, but not outstanding either. The real shocker came when, after 90 minutes, we were directed to the bar with the words, "We're finished eating and drinking; the next guests who have reservations are waiting." It's perfectly understandable that reservations in restaurants are always limited to two hours. But after 90 minutes, with the explanation that you're finished eating and drinking, regardless of whether you wanted to order anything else? Then you need to manage your reservations better, or tell the guest straight away that you can make a reservation, but only for 90 minutes.

★☆☆☆☆ Much anticipation, no food – a sadly disappointing visit We were really looking forward to yesterday: a family lunch together at the Waldfee restaurant, finally time to sit comfortably together and enjoy a good meal. We arrived at 1 p.m., full of anticipation – studied the menu, ordered, and then... the wait began. Pros: Our request for a shady spot when making our reservation was granted – thank you for that! Less pleasant: The table was right next to a very dirty gutter. Is it too much to ask to wipe it down occasionally when you're seating guests right next to it? We preferred to change tables ourselves. A private event with about 30 people was taking place inside at the same time – so it's understandable that things slowed down a bit. But an hour's wait without food is a bit much. Drinks arrived, nothing else. When we asked at 2 p.m. where the food was, we were initially told that it couldn't be right – we had just ordered. We were shown another table's order to "prove" this. They also explained that because of the group inside, they would be served first and asked for their understanding. An interesting way of communicating with customers. Later, it turned out that a single dish from our order was in progress, and the rest apparently hadn't even been started yet. We then canceled our entire order – which didn't seem to surprise anyone. There was an apology, but no concession. We were charged €23.80 for the drinks – of course, without a discount. The fact that we then waived a tip was met with obvious surprise. In the end, we left hungry, disappointed, and almost €24 lighter – with nothing but a tired apology. Apparently, they don't care much about us coming back. Our conclusion: Better off a few meters further to the Condessa. Everything was quick, friendly, and, above all, delicious. No arguments, no dirty gutters, and, above all, the food. What more could you want?

After today's visit, we went home both disappointed and sad. The Waldfee is just a few meters from our work, and we've enjoyed coming here for food and drinks over the past few years. Today, however, the Italian waiter was in a noticeably bad mood. Things got particularly unpleasant when it came to paying: card payments under €25 were categorically refused, without prior notice of this policy. Perhaps this is the boss's policy, but something like this simply shouldn't happen these days. A limit of €10 would be understandable, but €25? That simply seems excessive. Especially since my bill was €22, and we've been regular and happy guests. It's a shame – we've had many lovely visits in the past, but this evening left a bitter aftertaste.

The food was great but so salty that I asked for a glass of water and the waitress said no. When I ordered the chocolate cake, she asked me if I wanted a scoop of vanilla ice cream with it and I said yes, only to see on the bill that this was an extra. When I paid, she starred at me and said « and the tip ? it’s not included » so I felt like I had to give her one even though she refused to me a glass of water.

Schwach! Die Frittatensuppe schmeckte streng nach Brühwürfel. Die Tiroler Kasnudeln waren Convenience-Food wie aus dem Supermarkt, ertränkt in flüssiger Butter. Das Bier war zu warm, weil die Gläser zu warm waren. Allein die Salzburger Nockerln waren in Ordnung.

We had two meals: fried potatoes with cordon bleu and backhändl (fried chicken with salad). The cordon bleu was quite nice, but the fried potatoes were subpar. Briefly and very hotly fried potatoes with a few roughly chopped onions in sunflower oil. Barely any flavor, just greasy and barely roasted. Nothing like the lovely, buttery melted onions in evenly fried potato slices. The backhändl (fried chicken with salad) was simply a very dry chicken schnitzel, with not even the breading seasoned, on carelessly arranged lettuce leaves without vinaigrette. Instead, it came with a small bowl of tartar sauce.

Delicious food, good prices, and very friendly service. Our half portion 🐕 was immediately served with water.

The ambiance isn't quite my thing... the color scheme on the walls and decor... but they could easily change that. I'll definitely be back for the Kaiserschmarrn!

The handwritten menu is a real eye-catcher and underlines the restaurant's personal charm. The food and drink selection is extensive, with a focus on Austrian cuisine – a pleasant change! The portions are generous, the value for money is good, and the staff was very friendly. I'd love to come back!

While strolling through Schwabing, looking for a restaurant, I landed at the Waldfee. An appealing Austrian menu...you don't see that very often. Even a good selection for vegetarians. Everything was perfect...the food was authentic and delicious, the chef was very attentive and friendly, and to top it off, the freshly prepared Kaiserschmarrn (without raisins upon request) with apple sauce and plum compote...let me just say it was amazing. ;-) It's a shame we live in North Rhine-Westphalia and were only visiting...we wish we were there more often...thanks for the lovely evening and all the best. :-)

Das Essen war wirklich sehr gut, Spezialitäten aus dem Nachbarland, einfach gut. Wir waren alle wirklich angetan, jedes der Hauptgerichte war einfach nur sehr gut. Noch besser waren die Nachspeisen, die waren einfach perfekt. Die Marillenknödel schon ein Traum, die Salzburger Nockerln so, wie sie sein müssen. Genial. Service ist noch ein kleines Thema: im Grunde genommen auch wunderbar, aber manchmal musste man etwas lange warten. Aber das war wirklich nur marginal. Auf jeden Fall ein Lokal, das wir gerne wieder mal besuchen werden! Einen besonderen Hinweis wert ist das Preis - Leistung - Verhältnis. Es ist wirklich schwer, in München ein Lokal zu finden, bei dem die Preise zur Leistung wirklich noch passen. Das ist hier auf jeden Fall gegeben, hier hätten wir auch mehr gerne noch bezahlt. Aber so war es natürlich noch besser.

The food was good, a little seasoning here and there would have been nice. I would have liked the roasted potatoes to be crispier and the Kaiserschmarren was very fatty. The plums in the Kaiserschmarren taste as if alcohol had been processed. Even if the alcohol content has probably boiled away, a hint would be good. It gets loud quickly. All in all okay, but I would have expected more for the price.

If you like Wiener Schnitzel and the insults that go with it, then you've come to the right place. Many typical Austrian dishes, perhaps even more Viennese. It was very tasty and a feel-good stay. Gladly again. Late on Saturday afternoon we barely managed to get a place for two. If you want to be on the safe side, you should make a reservation.

Since there are only a few tables, it is advisable to serve beforehand. The service was very nice and attentive.

Waldfee offers traditional Austrian cuisine. From the outside, the pink kitschy sign isn’t the most inviting, and the interior - though improved with warm wooden tables - still carries a mix of pink, purple, and neon that slightly distracts from the alpine charm. The restaurant is quite small, so reservations are recommended. The menu is extensive, featuring Austrian classics alongside German and Swiss dishes, plus a rotating specials menu. The savory dishes were a mixed experience: the Züricher Geschnetzeltes had perfectly crispy potato rösti and a rich, earthy mushroom sauce, but the veal was unfortunately dry and tough. The Käsespätzle were flavorful but slightly clumpy. Overall, the main courses were decent but not outstanding, especially given the ~€20 price tag per dish. However, the desserts are the real stars! Their Kaiserschmarrn is hands down the best I’ve had in Munich: large, fluffy pieces with a caramelized, crunchy exterior, juicy raisins, and delicate almond slices, served with fresh applesauce and soaked plums. Absolutely divine! The service was polite, but the kitchen was quite slow. Verdict: Skip the savory dishes and come here for dessert!

Well, that's how it goes. The restaurant was full, so the noise level was extremely high. There were only two of us at the table and I had trouble understanding the person I was talking to. I had the Fiaker goulash, I honestly wouldn't take it again. The meat was lukewarm, the sauce was salty, the Viennese sausage had probably been fried for a long time and was then simply placed on top, so it was dry. I had a non-alcoholic Hugo - it was just elderberry syrup mixed with water, which would then be an elderberry spritzer, but is sold as a non-alcoholic spritz for the same price as a spritz with alcohol (7.50 euros). At the end when paying we were told that you couldn't pay with a card because the device didn't work or there were problems with the internet. It would be nice if you were informed of this beforehand so that you could go and get money again if necessary; many people have little or no cash with them these days. When we agreed that we could pay in cash, the waiter went back and brought us an interim bill with the note that if we wanted a normal bill, we would have to let us know again and then he would issue it for us (aha?!). All in all I wouldn't recommend it.

The ambience looks much higher quality in the photos online than in real life. In real life, we would say: quaint/weird. But that's absolutely okay. I had reserved a place for myself and my family, but no place was saved for us or it was simply passed on to another group (even though we were there on time). So we stood in the crowded restaurant for several minutes and were rudely held back until we got tired of it and moved on. Finding another place on a Saturday evening turned out to be extremely time-consuming and totally annoying! Extremely cheeky in my opinion, especially since my family drove 150km to experience such a bottomless experience. Never again.

Ich war mittags da und hatte mir das klassische Wiener Schnitzel ausgesucht. Bereits nach 5 Minuten wurde es serviert, was mich überraschte. Da wurden wohl Tk-Schnitzel in die Fritteuse geworfen. Gewürzt war es auch nicht und die Panade war sehr bröselig und nicht lecker. ButterSchmalz hatte es auch bestimmt nicht gesehen. Sehr schade! ☹️ Wenigstens die Bratkartoffeln waren gut.

RESPECT, in this rather bleak culinary VITI (Vietnamese, Italian, Thai, Indian) restaurant culture in Munich, this independent, full-bodied and lovingly run restaurant is a real extinction, bravo!👏 The diversity of the cuisine of our valued neighbors is always fantastic and testifies to the former world power and the formative influences of this golden age. We visited the Waldfee twice about a month apart. The Kaiserschmarrn on the first visit was delicious and plentiful. My fried chicken salad a few days ago was quite a disappointment: The salad only consisted of puffed up green leaf lettuce, a few slices of cucumber, two wedges of tomatoes and about a teaspoon of grated carrot. The fried chicken is not fried chicken, but rather a sliced ​​chicken schnitzel. Bread was only available upon request, although we actually found the four slices of white bread on the bill for €1.80. During both visits we were told exciting stories about why, unfortunately, it was not possible to pay by card today of all days. Conclusion: You can stop here, but for the same price you will also find much better Alpine cuisine and a less profit-driven service approach in Munich.

The insider tip in Munich. We were there with friends whose visit and the recommendations from the forest fairy herself were around 6 to 7 years ago. The food was delicious, the portions were good. The staff is super friendly, the cocktails are delicious. But the real insider tip is the Kaiserschmarrn. I've never eaten such a good one in my life! So a clear 10/10 from me. Happy New Year...
