Vacay - modern asian fusion in Leipzig

The restaurant was too small, very crowded, and extremely loud. The chairs were very uncomfortable, and it was cramped. The prices were exorbitant, and the food was nothing special—in fact, much worse than elsewhere. The bao bun was small and filled with a slice of completely untreated tofu and a lettuce leaf. The steamer basket was served without a saucer, so the sauce ran directly onto the table. The main course was unseasoned. I was very dissatisfied and would not go back or recommend this restaurant. What a waste of time and money.

After winning the show "Mein Lokal-Dein Lokal" (My Restaurant - Your Restaurant), we were eager to try this place. All in all, our naturally high expectations were disappointed. The menu is barely legible with its tiny 3mm font, the food is mediocre at best, lacking typical Asian spices, and everything is rather bland and boring. A chicken schnitzel chopped into pieces with a yellow sauce carelessly thrown together with yellow curry paste, a portion of rice, and a few lettuce leaves is neither Asian cuisine nor anything special. There are plenty of good Asian takeaways in Leipzig where you can get tastier food for half the price.

FOOD POISONING!!! And they're taking NO responsibility whatsoever! They even refused a refund through Wolt. OUTRAGEOUS! We ordered for two on Friday. Sushi and something else. The appetizer was good, nothing special, but okay. The sushi itself was pretty average in taste. I think the rice is where they're doing something wrong, in my opinion. For context, I'm half Japanese and I've been eating sushi all over the world for 30 years. I can immediately tell if something is "forget it," "so-so," "okay," "good," or "that's how it should be." (I've only ever experienced the "I'm in heaven" category once, in Japan.) So, in my opinion, it was just "okay" in terms of taste. And another negative point for me: they use VERY little wasabi! Sushi without wasabi is like sex without love! And salmon (we had salmon) needs a lot of love! But the real problem is: we both still have severe food poisoning! It started a few hours after the meal. We couldn't sleep at all that night (between Friday and Saturday). We didn't vomit, but we had very severe nausea, a feeling of heaviness, and headaches. Saturday was one of the worst days we've had in over 50 years of life. Sunday was SOMEWHAT better. On Monday, we felt like it was finally almost over, but then it came back. It's 4 a.m. Tuesday right now, and I woke up feeling nauseous again. And do you know how you distinguish a mistake from a very big mistake? If the person takes responsibility, then it's just a mistake. But here, not only did they not even apologize, but they also refused the refund through Wolt! I have very rarely experienced such outrageous behavior. Almost 40 euros down the drain, and 4 hellish days. But for them, it's all good. Good to know! As of today, "Vacay" is off my dictionary. And tomorrow I'm calling the health department. Let's see who has the last laugh... EDIT after the owner's reply: Dear Ms. Lihn, That's all very kind of you, but as clearly stated in the review: "It started a few hours after the meal." You seem to have missed that. And it WAS VERY bad! What do you mean by "acute"? Should we hand over our souls so you can recognize the poisoning? Come on, please... Besides, I'm partially disabled and a housewife, and my husband works from home. We never go out. We even get our groceries delivered by Rewe. Sure, you can theoretically catch a virus anytime, but if it had been a virus, how strange that we both suddenly felt sick two hours after eating, don't you think? That's not how a virus works. Food poisoning, however, does, as you yourself admitted. Come on, please... And, nothing was "in progress." We complained to Wolt on Monday at 12:30 a.m. They said they had to ask the restaurant, and on Tuesday at 12:30 a.m., we received a reply stating that there would be no refund! When I woke up in the middle of the night feeling nauseous, I read it and immediately wrote the review. Only then did you respond. But at least you responded and didn't have the review deleted like other restaurants do. I added a second star for the service because of this. If we receive the refund, I'll gladly add another one. Yes, Ms. Lihn, we did NOT receive a refund. We only received the €10 voucher. It's only valid for Vacay and only for one month. At the moment, as you can surely understand, we don't feel very motivated to order from you again. It's a shame the voucher isn't valid any longer... We would appreciate the refund, since you already promised it. Thank you.

We were here with our children. The sushi was very good and the service was friendly. I recommend trying the Vietnamese coffee. It's a good value for money. Reservations are recommended on weekends.

We visited the restaurant because we saw on TV that it had won the "Mein Lokal Dein Lokal" (My Local, Your Local) competition. We were thrilled with the food, the staff, and the restaurant. It was very busy, but everything still worked.

It feels like the thousandth Vietnamese fusion restaurant to visit. They've been popping up like mushrooms for some time now. Vacay, however, is one of the few worthwhile addresses. Large vegetarian and vegan selection. Creative, young cuisine. Everything tastes fresh, attractively presented, and very reasonably priced. The non-alcoholic drinks selection essentially consists of the standard selection plus four creative drinks (mocktails). The mocktails were also very tasty. They could definitely expand their offerings here. The ambiance matches the concept – young, modern, and inviting. You feel at home. It's worth coming back, as there's still so much culinary to discover :)

This establishment truly deserves a few words: We stumbled upon it yesterday quite by chance and were ultimately absolutely thrilled by the excellent quality of the food. They were probably the best edamame we've ever eaten, the sushi had an impeccable texture, the ratio between the amount of rice and the filling was perfect, it was at the perfect temperature, and the fish was simply delicious! The scallops were huge yet so rich in flavor that I had to savor them with my eyes closed, just like everything else. Furthermore, the service was attentive, friendly, fast, and professional. Highly recommended, and we'd definitely be back!

I ordered there through Wolt. Unfortunately, the crunchy sushi wasn't particularly good (it was unevenly cut and had already gone soft), and it's worth noting that they don't offer any soy sauce, wasabi, or ginger. It was a bit disappointing, unfortunately.

I've been a long-time guest at "Vacay" and have never been disappointed. Initially, I tried the sushi selection several times and was delighted every time. Later, I discovered the other dishes and was equally overwhelmed. I can especially recommend "What the Duck," which is always a real experience for me. The changing lunch menu is also impressive – for me, an Ebi Tempura is a must. The concept of giving guests a little break is absolutely successful. For me, "Vacay" is one of the best restaurants in Leipzig!

Great atmosphere, unfortunately quite hidden on Waldplatz. I've been here several times and have never been disappointed. The service is extremely friendly, but we had to wait a bit longer for our bill. The food is also very tasty, and the lunch menu is very reasonably priced. Otherwise, you have to pay a bit more, but it's worth it. It's definitely worth a recommendation.

We ordered on Sunday. The food arrived within the stated time. But we weren't impressed. I don't want the very end of the fish on my single grilled eel nigiri, mostly skin. That would be no fun. The scallops should trigger an explosion of flavor in the mouth, and I missed that, too. I enjoyed it better when Sona still served butterfish, scallops, and eel.

I've been raving about this restaurant for three years now. The dishes are exceptionally well-balanced in flavor; it couldn't be better. If you haven't been here, it's your own fault. I highly recommend it! Keep up the good work, thank you.🙏🙂

I made a reservation two weeks in advance because it's hard to spontaneously get tables with 5 of us. This reservation worked without any problems and the atmosphere can be seen not only on Instagram. But it's not just the interior design that speaks for a cozy meal, but also the food itself. One of my friends was positively surprised by the large selection of vegan dishes (unfortunately we're not used to that in small towns). We had 3 starters and hot dishes. We will try the sushi next time we visit Leipzig.

Delicious Asian restaurant in a good location. Places are limited, but it's definitely worth making a reservation for the evening. There is a large selection of food including vegetarian/vegan options. The prices and portions are okay. One star deducted for the ambience. It is quite narrow and sometimes seems hectic. It's not something to linger on for long. Definitely recommended for a quick meal break, also for the friendly team!

A very great restaurant, the sushi there is so delicious, highly recommended! The waitress was very nice and the food arrived quickly. However, the restaurant is quite small and the tables are very close to each other, so you sit arm on arm with your neighbor. We really enjoy ordering there and were there for the first time yesterday, it's definitely worth a visit ☺️

[And by the way, you will be somewhat reconciled if you previously made the mistake of letting yourself be "told" something about the origins of life at the art power plant for €21 per person.]

With high expectations based on the glowing reviews, my girlfriend and I decided to have dinner here, sharing two appetizers, each ordering a main course, and rounding off the evening with a shared dessert. The appetizers set a strong start—while the summer rolls were a total hit, perfectly balanced in flavor and paired with an outstanding dipping sauce, the Pan Bao left us feeling a bit underwhelmed. It lacked that extra punch to make it memorable. For the mains, my Udon noodles with chicken were quite enjoyable. A slightly more generous portion of chicken would have been ideal, and the cucumbers could have used a bit more marination to enhance their depth. On the other hand, my girlfriend’s sweet and sour dish was an absolute winner, packed with bold, satisfying flavors. The dessert—Monchies with vanilla ice cream and red berries—wrapped things up on a high note, offering a well-rounded, comforting finish. Service was excellent—attentive yet unobtrusive, exactly how you want it. The atmosphere was decent, though not the most comfortable for a long, leisurely dinner. Some seating was a bit awkward, and with the frequent opening of doors for takeout orders, an occasional cold draft made its way inside, which wasn’t ideal. From a culinary perspective, this place is absolutely worth a visit. While I wouldn’t necessarily pick it for a romantic dinner, we’ll definitely be coming back for another round.

Unfortunately we cannot agree with the positive reviews. We waited 40 minutes until we could order drinks and then we waited a while for the food. The sushi platter for two was average in taste, not comparable to other restaurants. There was no bill when we paid, which is why we only realized later that our €10 Neo Taste deal had not been deducted by the waitress as discussed. What a shame!

The dishes are consistently amazing.

We waited an hour and a half for our food even though the location is only 20 minutes away from us. My girlfriend and I had both ordered Thai curry, but the smell and taste were extremely unpleasant. Since we are both big fans of Thai curry and have had it in many different places, we know the quality wasn't good this time.

I was in Leipzig for a concert, the concert hall is right next to the restaurant. This makes it a full hut. But the waiters were still very friendly and always attentive to the guests. We were served our food very lovingly and deliciously prepared. We'll definitely come by more often now!

Very well attended, be sure to reserve and bring plenty of time. If you don't have any intolerances and can eat the food as directed, it's ok. Only special requests are responded to in a rather inflexible manner. This is the first Asian where this has happened to me. So far, despite my soy intolerance, I have always been treated to delicious food. Unfortunately we were a.G. closed streets in the city center and a subsequent visit to the cabaret under time pressure. Unfortunately, this was not taken into account by the service. We waited 45' for our food. If you have a voucher booklet, you should note that you can only redeem 1 voucher (2 for the price of 1) per table, no matter how many people. This has never happened to us anywhere before. We won't be coming back.
