Urban Masala in Bielefeld

We've been here twice now. The food is absolutely amazing! Very tasty and generous portions! We also highly recommend the mango lasso and the house lemonade. 🔝 😊 The vegetarian/vegan selection is also very extensive. Gluten-free options are clearly marked on the menu, so you can see everything at a glance! 👀 👍🏻 The first time (in winter, with a reservation for 6:30 p.m.), we had to wait for a table and a relatively long wait for the food. This time (summer, 8:30 p.m.), it wasn't a problem at all. I guess we were just unlucky the first time ☘️ We'll definitely be back!

Delicious food, quickly prepared, super friendly staff, a pleasant atmosphere, and very fair prices for generous portions. I would go back again and again.

THE HEALTHIEST FOOD If you happen to be in Bielefeld and fancy Indian food instead of just kebabs, I can recommend URBAN MASALA. For example, at NAMASTE MAHARAJA. What's so special about Indian food? Well, it's very light and digestible, and doesn't sit on your stomach like a brick. So, if you're looking for an alternative to McDonald's & Co. KG, URBAN MASALA is the place for you. Not only can you eat Indian food here, but the restaurant is designed to bring a touch of India to Bielefeld. The usual conditions that a good restaurant should have are also present here: good service - and if you have a dog 🐕 and don't want to leave it alone - no problem. Dogs 🐕 are allowed at URBAN MASALA. Finally, I have to make one urgent point! Eating out is great, but it's not essential to life. The only food that is essential to life is food that comes from the LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST. Believe me, this is the most important food there is. Anyone who doesn't "eat" this food will think back with tears in their eyes to their time at URBAN NASALA, sitting in hell because they didn't accept the offer of the LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST. Incredibly delicious with a lovely atmosphere

After the hefty price increase, the price-performance ratio is no longer right.

The food itself was very tasty, but many dishes come with a side salad. This sometimes consists of just two large lettuce leaves with a slice of cucumber and a cherry tomato. That could be fine, but without proper salad dressing, it's a bit impractical and could be described more as decoration. The curry was delicious, but the drink left me a bit puzzled. My neighbors had ordered 0.2-liter drinks and received the same glass as me, just a little less full (0.5 liters). Nevertheless, I paid the full price, which I find outrageous.

My absolute recommendation for authentic Indian food in Bielefeld. Super friendly service, who openly and warmly lets you in on the secrets of the menu. It couldn't be better. Thank you.

The food is incredibly delicious! The chicken in the butter chicken is incredibly tender, and the sauce is also perfectly cooked! The staff is excellent.

We ordered online. On a Sunday, it can take a bit longer, no problem. We live less than 5 minutes by car from the location. Two hours and 30 minutes past the stated delivery time, we were told on the phone: "The driver is on his way." That was a clear lie. When I said I would cancel my order after waiting any longer, I was told, "Sure, boss." We are customers and pay for the product offered. If the restaurant business isn't for the employees or owners of the store, they should find something else. Pure disappointment.

We ordered here via Uber Eats. Unfortunately, I have to say I was very disappointed. My garlic naan was forgotten, and I was told I'd get a refund via PayPal, but unfortunately, that hasn't happened yet. I also find it pretty cheeky to charge €4.90 or €5.90 for meat, only to end up with just four or five small pieces. It tasted okay, but nothing special.

Never had to wait longer for a simple order.... over 1h. I would not recomend it. Lemonade made from a concentrate from a store and really watery.... Food not as tasty as expected

Really very tasty food, I can confidently say that it is my favorite in Bielefeld when it comes to Indian cuisine. The naan in particular is probably the best I've personally had so far. The curries I've tried so far have all been very tasty, but all a little different and with the individual side dish/topping there should be something for everyone. The tandoor dishes could have a little more sauce and for (older) people or people who are perhaps there for the first time, the menu could be a little difficult to understand here and there. It could be helpful, for example, to describe Indian terms behind them in brackets in German. Of course, anyone can just ask or google it, I'm just speaking for my family members. Ultimately, it's about the food, which always delivers. I would also like to explicitly highlight the friendly lady who served us, really a very friendly, attentive and patient service, keep it up. We always like to come back.

The food was very tasty, the waitress was friendly. Unfortunately we found the food and drinks relatively too expensive. We also like to give tips. When paying by card you are forced to state directly how much you are giving. I don't know that so it was very unsympathetic. Then we'd rather do it the old way, pay by card and tip as much as we want in cash.

I had the pleasure of visiting Urban Masala, and I can only say it was a true taste experience! I opted for the Butter Chicken, and it was simply delicious. The perfect combination of tender chicken and a creamy, aromatic sauce that melted in your mouth. But it wasn't just the food that impressed me; the shop's interior is also a real eye-catcher. The lovingly designed atmosphere immediately creates a feeling of coziness and invites you to linger.☺️ I highly recommend Urban Masala!!! This definitely won't be my last visit! 😋👍🏼

The restaurant left us with mixed feelings. The waitress was friendly, but we had the feeling that she was very rushed and wanted to do everything quickly without really giving us any good advice. When the food came, the starters tasted good, but the spices were far too coarse - it would have been nicer if they had been ground rather than in big chunks that were right in your mouth. In addition, the main course was extremely spicy, but at the same time unsalted, which disturbed the balance in taste. Unfortunately, when we raised the issue of coarse spices, it was downplayed instead of taken seriously. Overall, a mixed experience - with a little more care with the spices and better advice, the restaurant could do much better.

The food was excellent. Unfortunately, we had to wait a long time for our food, but that was because the kitchen was generally delayed that day. Still, that's no reason for me to deduct any stars.

The food was delicious, as always! The samosas are simply amazing, my favorite starter there. The staff are super friendly. However, there's one thing I don't like, and it was the same on my last visit. The wait between the starter and the main course is too long. You wait more than 30 minutes after the starter is already gone, and that's just too long. Otherwise, a great place :)

We had a lovely evening. The service and food were excellent. Unfortunately, the evening's bill was negative. Be aware that if you order a 0.5l soda, you'll also receive a 0.5l glass. We were told they were 0.5l glasses. This definitely wasn't. Comparison between wheat beer glass and soda glass failed.

Four of us ate there, and our expectations were exceeded! Starting with the super friendly waitress, who served us excellently from the very beginning. The food was fresh and authentic. I highly recommend the homemade garlic naan and the okra fries. All in all, a 5/5.

The food was beyond amazing. I've never had such good Indian food. The waitresses were very nice and double-checked my order. Splitting the bill went smoothly. It was just so loud that you could barely hear the person sitting across from you. There are no room dividers to block out the noise, and you sit very close to the people at the next table. The seat near the door was very cold. We'll definitely be back, but probably at a less busy time. 😊

Visited this place already twice. Their Okra Fries and Vegetarian Manchurian (Indo-Chinese style) is worth trying. Also have tried Paneer tikka, Samosas, Daal and Naan. Definitely worth trying, Price wise, its a value for money.

Great Indian, there has never been such a stylish, contemporary place in Bielefeld. Good atmosphere, well attended, menu well made, several combinations possible, nice flavors, attractively served, very good drinks. Another feedback. Finally we received food by 2325hrs. After waiting 1.30 hrs. The chicken and soya / vegan roll is pathetic . We had to throw both the rolls. Butter chicken also doesn’t taste like indian butter chicken. God knows what they prepared and send. A BIG NO FOR THIS RESTAURANT

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and furnished with attention to detail. You immediately feel comfortable. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. No long waiting times. The selection of curries and other Indian specialties is so large that you can hardly make a decision. The portions were perfect in size and super delicious. That certainly wasn't the last time we ate here.

I was in this restaurant for lunch for the first time on June 28, 2024 and was immediately warmly welcomed and treated extremely friendly. The ambience is really great and the food was excellent - light and tasty. The mango lassi was one of the best I've ever had. I'm looking forward to the South Indian cuisine options available soon, especially the dosa which I love. For me, this restaurant is the clear value for money winner for Indian food in Bielefeld, and I will definitely come back.

Unfortunately the service left a lot to be desired, we stood in the entrance area for at least 5 minutes and were ignored, then we were finally given a table where we were allowed to wait another 15 minutes for a menu. But the food came relatively quickly. Would like to come back because of the food, hope the service will be more attentive.

The food was pretty tasty. There were four of us and everyone was very satisfied. I had a meat dish called chicken biryani or something like that. I found the amount of meat in it rather poor and too low for the price, but the taste was convincing. Service was okay. The ambience could still be worked on. Addition: points deducted because the entrance door has been broken for weeks and slams loudly. But that doesn't seem to bother anyone because it isn't being repaired - totally annoying!! This will stop me from visiting again!

Great restaurant with delicious food in a very nice environment. My first impression at the door was a bit skeptical, but was refuted as soon as I entered. By the way, there is no pork whatsoever, which can be interesting for some people. Unfortunately, gluten-free food is not possible there. The only tiny little thing that doesn't necessarily have to be viewed negatively: we didn't feel stuffed after eating. Some people might say that they didn't get enough. Still 5 stars!

Very tasty and suitable for business lunches

On Saturday we spontaneously visited the restaurant. It was not possible to eat in the restaurant without a reservation, but we took our order with us. The food was very tasty, good quality and freshly prepared. Despite the initial inconvenience, the taste was a highlight.

Quite a decent place for Bielefeld. The waitress patiently explained the dishes and talked us through the menu on demand. Food was yummy and quite authentic. Madras could’ve been spicier IMO. Can recommend this place!
