Tori-Katsu Berlin in Berlin

A Berlin institution. The star is the crispy juicy deep fried chicken. And the acidity based coleslaw. The sauces or the curry are kinda blend for my taste. They lack spice and overall punch. But that's just me I guess. I hear often from the customers around me asking for more sauce. Never the less the chicken is awesome and I go there once per month at least.

From what I heard, the food is Helal. That's enough for me. Thank you.

The sour and spicy soup is particularly great! Update: the meat is no longer what it used to be, rather dry, no longer juicy. I've known the store for over 25 years, a lot has changed, which is a shame. Quantity instead of quality.

Was there the first time and last time. Sorry The area where it is located is a complete problem. The shop is in such a small space and is more of a mini fast food joint than a restaurant. This has supposedly been around since 1967 and the people who work there can hardly say a word of German other than the price. You don't get served there, but you get a beeper who calls you and has to pick up the food at the counter. Regular customers simply queue up and receive priority service. The food is nothing special, just a schnitzel served on mushy rice with gravy. The meat was breaded in a sticky manner and had no taste and still had rubbery skin underneath, was gristly and had bones in it. Since we couldn't get a table in the store, we were taken outside. While we were eating we were harassed by two beggars who asked for money or cigarettes and then constantly refused to let us get rid of them. Sorry, I would like to say something good but unfortunately it was a complete disaster.

One of the best shops in Berlin...which enjoys cult status among Berliners. If you want to see someone from your childhood that you haven't seen for a long time, you'll definitely meet there again. My favorite dish is number 100 with curry chicken peppers. I can only recommend it. Otherwise the classic Tori katsu, as the shop is called, is legendary 👍🏼🙏

The ramen was a disaster, like overcooked noodles unfortunately drowned in a random „soup“ that I could not even put a name on. Don’t, simply don’t.

Small Shop but cozy and nice vibe. Service is super fast and quick. Quantities for all the food are amazing and filling. Price performance ratio is really good. We tried Springroll - must have 5/5 Tori Katsu chicken with curry sauce 4.5/5 Same as above with braten sauce 4/5 Chicken chopsuey - 4/5 Scharf Saure Soup - 3/5 (good but the others were much better) Chicken Teriyaki - 4/5 Staff is kind and the service is super quick. Will definitely revisit again 👌🏼

Definitely worth a visit! We had the katsu with gravy. The meat is very tender and juicy, really perfect just like the breading. Nice and crispy and delicious in taste. The rice was tasty well cooked but standard. The gravy was nice and thick and better than expected. I just didn't like the combination but it was all super tasty!! Price performance top!! Rustic and authentic atmosphere makes you feel comfortable. A real insider tip! Next time I'll probably use a different combination but I'll definitely come back.

Classic snack bar but classic for Berlin. The recipe for the sour-spicy soup and the tori katsu with gravy is always identical and a must for decades.

I thought our order was really well prepared. We ordered everything to go. The roasting pan was included separately, so no soggy food. We were pleasantly surprised at how fresh takeaway food can be. For those who order, it takes 40 minutes to drive home. The dish itself comes with Tori-Katsu with gravy, simply great. And the salad with it is also great. I would love to go there again😊

A Berlin original. Katsu really sucks with the gravy. Many variants, some specials. Prices are super low, but the quality of the food is still high. Snack style. Don't expect too much, but if you like home cooking, you'll find what you're looking for here. You just look for vegetables in vain. There is cabbage salad :)

Completely overrated mafia shop. Just fried chicken schnitzel on dry rice with gravy a la Maggie. Don't buy into the hype.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place based on my experience. While other well-known dishes from the menu might be better, the chicken wings I ordered were overly salty, and the rice tasted like it had been reheated from the previous day. It was quite disappointing overall.

Very, very old shop, very small space intended for food, the Japanese people can hardly speak German, but the food is delicious! Of course there is also a lot to read and see on the walls there are drawings, you can see how popular the shop was in the old days.

So anyone who hasn't been here yet should definitely do so. Price performance is unbeatable and it also tastes incredibly delicious. I was skeptical at first, rice with gravy, but yes it works and the chicken is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Despite the crowds, the staff is quick and friendly, but you should plan your time as it is quite small and there are only a few places available. I will definitely come back.

Totally recommendable place. A sort of cool little place with cheap menu. Expect some lower class raw folks there, like me ;) haha. No place for “I think myself cool”-silly-Berlin gentrifying-bunch. Though the guys are a bit weird and they are actually not Japanese, they wear those funny paper hats that make the place unique. The cost of the soup is really low and makes it a super economical option. Also it has history. An Almost 60yo dish! The ToriKatsu is abundant. You’ll be full and makes it a good place to take friends.

Nice little restaurant, service quick and nice. Went there around 4 p.m. and were lucky with space. The food was so delicious, the fried sauce was nice and spicy and the chicken was crispy and juicy. Price was perfect 👌 6 euros! Gladly again.

The snack is kind of cute and seems to have been around for a long time. However, it is no longer run by the founders or the Japanese. The food is super greasy and oily, which you can also smell in the interior. But it's cheap and quick. What's annoying is that card payment is not possible. But I wouldn't eat here regularly.

The Tori Katsu with curry sauce tasted really good and was also very seasoned, the service was also friendly and nice plus the prices are really reasonable for what you get

Cash only. Limited seating inside. We came for dinner and it was very busy, when we found out they don't take credit card we vowed to get euros and come back the next day for lunch. They seem to be busy anytime. The food is amazing, large portions for a cheap price! I got the egg flower (or egg drop) soup and schnitzel with no sauce. My husband got the spicy sour sauce which didn't end up being super spicy but it does have egg which he is allergic too so we ended up switching meals! Highly recommend!!

Delicious Japanese food at reasonable prices.

How this pig meal got this good rating is a mystery to me. I also looked in vain for Japanese here, the staff and the food are definitely not it. It smells like frying fat, and it tastes like it smells. Here you can get cheap junk food at a high price, served by unfriendly staff with whom you can unfortunately only communicate with your hands and feet.

A Tori Katsu is meat from the chicken leg that has been removed from the bone, which is breaded and then deep fried. The meat was nice and juicy. I think the included gravy is appropriate. The spicy sauce also tasted like a gravy.

Very tasty and cheap. The portions are large and will fill you up. However, when it comes around 6-8 p.m., you have to allow some time as there are only limited seating options.

Food is decent, not bad, just simple. The selling point here is the price quantity ratio, you get a lot of food for cheap. If you don't mind that there's nothing Japanese about this Japanese place this might be the place for you. You should consider that this is not a restaurant, but an Imbiss. Don't expect a waiter or a conversation. The atmosphere here can be described as anything between chaotic to hostile, and you'll be running out as soon as you finish your food. If you're in the area and want something basic and cheap, this is a solid option.

10/10, I can't say more. Tip: Be sure to have your tori kastu gratinated with cheese and order the spring roll and salad with it, it was an absolute feast!

I am vietnamese, were last week in Japan and just missed Ramen to eat. They are not japanese but vietnamese. Which is usuaööy not a problem but the Ramen i had is not definitely authentic, so far away from what could be a real Ramen. They do a kind of cheap and random vietnamese soup. The quantity is there but the quality and authenticity are not there. The place is not clean and a bit messy, so not super comfy.

Very well known, especially because of the chicken schnitzel with sauce and therefore always coming and going. It's best to order food to take away during the cooler months. Employees are very friendly.

Tori Katsu, great japanese Restaurant. I was there at 11 and people already waited. You get your food within 15 minutes.

It's not pork cutlet, it's schnitzel. The taste of the sauce and the atmosphere of the restaurant felt like a small town Chinese restaurant, and I didn't really feel the Japanese taste of Japanese food. However, I always wanted to eat schnitzel with white rice. Of course, there is no other restaurant where schnitzel is served on white rice, so for me, it was a dream come true. I'll visit you again.

A Berlin gem. Five nimble Japanese people work there in a small space and conjure up wonderful breaded chicken with only a tiny bone left. Of course there is also much more. Also funny are the many hand-painted notes and announcements, which are very Japanese-inspired and translated quite literally into German and hang everywhere in the store. Something to look at, something to eat deliciously and at a more than fair price. I always enjoy going there and have been doing so for over 40 years.

Small old shop in the middle of the neighborhood. After all the hype, we had to go there to test whether it was really worth the hype! But since the store has been there for several years, it can't just be that. The service is nothing special, you go to the counter and order your food and get a pager and wait and it beeps and vibrates. The portion of the food was very good for the price. The chicken and breading were just right, had the gravy on the side. The Katsu Chicken with cheese gratin was not for us! We then ordered a portion of curry sauce for €2 and it was absolutely delicious. I even thought it was better than the gravy. The coleslaw was top. As I said, value for money was very good for the portion. But there are better Katsu Chicken in Berlin.

Nice man behind the counter, food comes quickly and is really good! Prices are also very good... I rarely give 5*****, but here it's definitely exactly what you expect!

It's a bit funny that Tori Katsu has almost cult status - it's certainly not because of the quality of the food. The shop has a lot of neighborhood flair and offers a solid and inexpensive lunch menu to all those Schönebergers who are not satisfied with the fancy lunch tables in the area. Many came here as students, and they served rice with sauce at the student rate. It's all very nice. If you like breaded meat and find gravy delicious with it, you'll get your fill here on a fair budget. But there are no fancy menu plates or Japanese flair.

Schnitzel tastes very good and the prices are definitely very low and definitely worth it! The staff are friendly and the food is fresh.

I love this place. I think its something like 6-7€ for katsu with rice and curry sauce. The coleslaw is essential. Spring Rolls are also v good. Depending on what time you're going you might have to cue 10-15mins. Either way a very very inexpensive way to enter flavour town!

So it was okay but we were promised more. The shop is rather small, there is hardly any space. There was a lot going on, which sounds good but also hectic. The food was good and tasty but not particularly. Price/performance is right, staff friendly enough but a bit emotionless. Worth a visit but don't expect too much.

Extremely overrated. I heard a lot of good things about the store and therefore had it on my radar for a while. Today was the day. First impression was positive. The shop is small but very cozy. Menu a bit confusing. You have to search through the giant wall of posters to see the entire menu. Employees were very overwhelmed and unfortunately there were no Japanese, which was a bit to the detriment of the flair. Price was good. 2 people with drink for 31€. Chicken is Halal!! Unfortunately, the food was a disappointment. Coleslaw was very good, karaage well, but the well-known Tori Katsu didn't cut it in my opinion. Unfortunately, the gravy didn't go well with the rice and was very difficult to get down. It was okay, but wouldn't go there again

Tori-Katsu If you don't know the popular Japanese dish, you may have seen this “restaurant” on TikTok on your favorite foodie. The food is very generously portioned and tasty, but it is not pretty but rather quickly prepared. The service is very simple but friendly, but you should expect possible language barriers and be patient. Orders are ordered and picked up at the counter. There isn't much space in the shop, about 16 people with 3 tables for four and 2 tables for two. When the weather is nice you can sit outside at 4 tables for four. The ambience inside is not particularly nice but is more reminiscent of a small pub only Japanese😅 Finally, if you are not looking for a gourmet chef but are looking for delicious Japanese snack food with large portions, you will be very satisfied there. However, if you are planning a romantic dinner for two, you might want to eat somewhere else. But give Tori-Katsu a chance because of the dish of the same name, just the number of people who came in during my visit speaks for the shop.

A real gem and wonderfully authentic!

The server quickly got us a table and was super friendly and helpful. He recommended the chicken wings and they were amazing! Perfectly crispy and juicy and full of flavor. The Katsu‘s were amazing, great value, all sauces were delicious and I was very pleased with the whole experience.

It was okay. But nothing more. The chicken tasted a little burnt. I assume this was due to the fat in the pans. This already looked very worn out from day-to-day business. The service was short and unemotional but completely okay.

Tori-Katsu is a simple but incredibly delicious Japanese dish that has been available in Berlin for over 70 years. The store is legendary, the prices are affordable and the quality is always right. At peak times you have to allow time for the queue.
