Friendly staff and a charming location. The food, however, was just so-so on my last visit.

My family of 4 visited this restaurant in December 2025. Of all of the restaurants we went to in Munich, this place ranks at the very top. The food, drinks, and the service were outstanding. What stands out the most, however, is the very, very authentic Bavarian restaurant experience in a quiet neighborhood. We loved everything about this restaurant and we highly recommend it!

A very beautiful, warm, and welcoming place. It's small, which makes it the perfect place to chat without leaving at the end of the evening with a headache. The service is kind, attentive, and helpful, taking care of the customer until the very end without ever being intrusive. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. We had Wiener schnitzel aus calb, Munich schnitzel aus schwein, Hirsch goulash, and cheese spätzle and Ente gebacken. Everything was absolutely exceptional. It's also very easy to reach by public transportation, practically a stone's throw from the Lehel metro station. In the heart of Munich, yet strategically hidden from the frenetic tourist rush. I've lived in Munich for 12 years and I still hadn't heard of it... It's a shame to have wasted 12 years, but from now on, it will be my go-to restaurant. Highly recommended.

Excellent typical Bavarian restaurant, away from the other touristy ones. We had a Wiener schnitzel and a Munich schnitzel, with potatoes, which were exceptional. The dishes are super generous and the prices are fair for the quantity and quality.

Family of four from the UK, we enjoyed a dinner which felt authentic and was good value. The restaurant is not large, and was very busy/almost full when we arrived. We were however welcomed in and found a table in a room at the rear of bar. Portion sizes are large. The Bolognese was a lot of food for my daughter, and my other daughter and wife had the schnitzel which neither could no way finish, and we were all hungry when we arrived. Service was good, if a little slow but it was very busy. Highly recommend a visit if you are in Munich!

Yesterday, on our way home to Hotel Unsöld, we spontaneously stopped at this quaint pub, sat at the bar, and watched the goings-on. Very friendly service and delicious beer. Thank you!

Stopped here after being turned away at place down the street. What a nice surprise, local bar and restaurant with a down home feel .The place was full but the manager was nice and set us up at the bar. Not speaking the language the wonderful servers and bar maid explained the menu. The food was excellent and the portions were right up our alley, nice and big. Duck was the special of the night and look appetizing. My wife had a steak and I had a true Bavarian pork dish. Both were excellent and filling. When we asked for the check we were pleasantly surprised how reasonable it was. We highly recommended this restaurant, you will not be disappointed.

We were immersed in the atmosphere of a true Bavarian tavern. A journey into the past that is reflected in both the food and the drinks. The service, which may seem a bit reserved at first, is nonetheless efficient and attentive. A wonderful place to visit to truly experience Munich.

Typical Bavarian atmosphere, very cozy. Exceptional service, super warm and attentive. The food was okay, but everything could have been seasoned better – the fried potatoes, the soup, and the meat. The meat was also a bit dry, and the fried potatoes didn't taste fresh. Overall, a 3 for the food and a 1+ for the service.

We were there on December 6th, 2025 with four people. Despite the restaurant being full, special requests were accommodated, and the staff was calm and friendly. Most importantly, everyone was completely satisfied with the food.

This is a restaurant I happened to visit. I couldn't make a reservation, but I was shown a table for two hours. The beer and snacks were fantastic.

Everything we imagined going to a local German eatery would and should be. Amazing food, friendly service, and classy Bavarian decor. The venison meatballs were great, but the münchner schnitzel was amazing. Highly recommend this place for an intimate spot full of Germans. We greatly appreciated the lack of other tourists.

We ate at the Tattenbach Inn for the first time today. The atmosphere is typically Bavarian – cozy, rustic, and exactly what you'd imagine a classic inn to be. The service was exceptionally friendly and very attentive – a huge compliment to the service team! We ordered the onion roast beef with Spätzle (€24.90). The portion was very large, but unfortunately, the chef seemed to be having an off day: the meat was incredibly dry, which simply shouldn't happen with a dish like this. It's a real shame, because otherwise, the visit could have been much better. We're awarding 3 stars solely for the excellent service. The food definitely needs improvement.

The perfect place for a wonderful time! No matter who visits me in Munich, Tattenbach is always on my list of must-see places. The atmosphere is unbeatable; you hardly ever find anything like it anymore. Far from the tourist traps, you can enjoy Bavarian hospitality and fantastic food. The staff is always incredibly friendly and efficient. Highly recommended! ❤️

Terrific little place for a proper authentic Bavarian experience. Great atmosphere thanks to the groups of Germans meeting up and drinking, and the staff were friendly getting us to our seats and taking our orders in a loud environment. Drinks and food was all delicious and pretty good value for the quantity of food you get, and overall I found it to be a really fun experience for a meal out! Just be warned it can get quite loud as its a small venue that is almost always packed full!

Quaint Bavarian restaurant with friendly service

The food, service, and atmosphere here are all fantastic! We ordered half a roast duck and a serving of sausages, and finished it all – it was truly delicious. Thank you to the staff for their warm hospitality and recommendation. Anyone visiting Munich should definitely try it; highly recommended!

Food was lovely and the waitresses were really nice, all except one who seemed to be the manager. We went for lunch, wanting to experience a traditional German meal. One of us is severely allergic to numerous ingredients, she asked if it was OK to have her own sandwich and they said yes. In total we consumed 3 drinks and 2 main dishes, but half-way this woman came out in a rude way, speaking in German (knowing we could barely understand her) and told our friend to put her sandwich away. Very poor people skills, and massive lack empathy IMHO. Wouldn't recommend if you have any special condition to be considered.

Wow, what a great inn! A very friendly welcome from a female employee. Water was immediately provided for our two standard poodles. The food was delicious, and the prices were reasonable. Here you can really see the difference that friendly and helpful staff make. We'll definitely be back. (Visited November 4th, 4:30 pm)

This was the worst schnitzel I've ever eaten. It was so greasy that I wouldn't have eaten it if I hadn't been hungry and had a quick alternative (during my lunch break). The salad was also terrible—they didn't make any effort at all. Such bad food for these prices! The service, however, was very fast, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was nice.

Very nice restaurant, food rather average. When asked if the potato salad was homemade, the answer was yes. They were clearly lying. Please brief the staff.

A historic Bavarian inn with a low-priced lunch menu. Still €9.90 in September 2025. A top choice in the otherwise very expensive Lehel district. But beware: Avoid the meat dishes here, as they are of rather average quality. Anyone expecting homemade potato salad for lunch will also be disappointed. Okay, the price has to come from somewhere. One star deducted because the parasols, now firmly cemented to the public sidewalk, aren't removed even out of season. Not a pretty sight.

Very tasty Bavarian food. The schnitzel was thinly pounded and beautifully fried. The bread dumplings were homemade and served with a delicate gravy. The Augustiner wheat beer was also good. The service was prompt, attentive, and friendly.

A very nice Augustiner in an old building. They don't serve beer from wooden barrels, but it tastes very good. Seating is sometimes a bit cramped, but if the beer is good, it doesn't matter! The food was very good. The service was friendly, and you can pay by card. Everything was top-notch.

I spontaneously dropped in on a Friday lunchtime without a reservation and easily found a seat. My goal was to try the lunch menu – and I wasn't disappointed. There was a minor disagreement, which was resolved very professionally. Overall, the food was delicious, the value for money was really excellent, and the central location is also a plus. The service was extremely friendly, and I really enjoyed my lunch here. I'd love to go back!

No matter what you eat, everything tastes great. The chef and service are simply fantastic. I'm a regular! The lunch special is unbeatable. You won't find it anywhere else this cheap, including extra soup or salad! Best regards, Dieter

A very cozy and quaint inn located in the quiet Lehel district of the old town. Some tables are also available outside, right in front of the inn. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The food (here, Wiener Schnitzel) is delicious, and the Augustiner beer comes fresh from the tap. 👍👍👍 Highly recommended!

The food was okay, but unfortunately very greasy and only lukewarm. So, the price was reasonable, but unfortunately not the quality I would have hoped for. The staff was very friendly.

The food is soooo delicious! The three of us had the pleasure of stopping by Tattenbach on Friday, and my goodness! The onion roast is a poem! The steamed dumpling is truly, as advertised, "just like grandma's." The vegetarian options are, it must be said, rather limited. Still, definitely highly recommended!

A very quaint inn with good food and large portions at a really fair price. Unfortunately, it was very crowded and the kitchen was completely overworked. Most of the waiters were also busy, and not particularly friendly. Only the blonde waitress was super nice, very helpful, and very sorry about the wait. The Kaiserschmarren (sweet pancakes) is amazing. You should definitely try it.

If there's one Bavarian restaurant that deserves full marks in every respect, it's this one! - Let's start with the (in my opinion) best beer in the world: Augustiner. The food is authentically Bavarian and prepared and served in honest, home-style cooking (as far as that's possible in a restaurant). No frills or fuss. But in generous portions. . . . . The reception, service, and waitresses are friendly, cheerful, and competent. It's no coincidence that this restaurant is fully booked almost every evening. The price-performance ratio is completely acceptable. - The washrooms and toilets appear clean and well-maintained. - Parking in this part of town is rather difficult. - The "Lehel" subway station is in the immediate vicinity.

You wait forever - but you get the smallest and most unloving sausage salad in Munich 🥴 The schnitzel is served with meager, almost raw/barely pan-fried potatoes 🤣 - Enjoy! At least the outside seating was nice and the waitress very friendly. But that's not enough to warrant another visit...

I visited the café and was unfortunately disappointed by the service. The employee at my table seemed rude and disinterested. Even though I spoke clearly, she seemed to deliberately refuse to understand what I was ordering. This behavior was very unpleasant for me and negatively impacted my visit. I would like to highlight the food on a positive note, though – it was truly delicious.

Phenomenal food and ambience. Had the bread dumpling in mushroom sauce. Vegetarian must have!
