A very tastefully decorated restaurant with attentive service and fantastic food. The spices are perfectly balanced. There are many vegetarian and vegan options, and even vegan chicken. We'll definitely be back!

Very friendly service and delicious food. You have to wait a bit, but you get a great, freshly prepared dish in a generous portion.

Friendly people, delicious fresh food, and a lovely atmosphere. Don't let the construction site (as of November 2025) in front of the restaurant deter you from visiting this unique establishment on Bochumer Straße. The short walk is well worth it! Online pre-ordering and telephone reservations have always worked flawlessly so far.

The food is excellent; you can specify the spiciness when ordering. The European dish was a 3 out of 5, which is fine even for those on a cautious diet. The selection of dishes is extensive, with various variations available. I combined my meal according to vegetarian and low-carb options, and it was perfect for me. The service still needs some practice, but is generally acceptable. Reservations are recommended on weekends, as a good restaurant also attracts a lot of visitors. The Taste of Masala can be the start of a wonderful evening.

And you're simply top-notch and maintain the high quality! ☺️🤗 From 2024: Unfortunately, I couldn't rate Lieferando because I wasn't logged in when I ordered. Then here it is. We tried Chicken Kothu for the first time today, and my boyfriend and I both think it's soooo delicious! Really, really good. But the creamy, spicy butter chicken and the special "roti" bread, which we only get from you, were absolutely fantastic! (The bread is a bit smaller than naan bread, but at 1.60 euros, the price is still justified.) My boyfriend said: "This is the best butter chicken I've ever eaten!" And I can only say it. We've ordered from you several times and have always been thrilled, but today you really blew us away with the butter chicken....!! So delicious 😋

First of all, it's a great place. I've rarely eaten so well. Everything is fresh, top quality, and with plenty of oriental spices. It tastes truly incredibly delicious. You have to be careful with the spices. We had European dishes twice (level 2/4), and they were quite spicy. However, we received good advice. There are many vegetarian dishes on the menu. The service was super friendly, and while the place isn't huge, it has a very cozy interior. A modern website allows you to reserve a table.

We happened to pass by today, and since we love Indian food, this appealed to us. What can I say? We weren't disappointed! Very pleasant and quick service, and the food was divine! I've never had better butter chicken sauce anywhere; it's fantastic. The portions are generous, and they offer reusable Vytal containers for takeaway. Card payments are no problem, which isn't always the case in restaurants. I really have absolutely no complaints; it was an all-round excellent dinner. We're not from the area, but if we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely stop by!

The food used to be much, much better. The roti was poorly cooked, too crunchy, and greasy. The butter chicken tastes really bad and has nothing to do with butter chicken anymore. A year ago: Absolutely delicious food, the best butter chicken I've ever had. It's just a shame that we can't order there for lunch anymore due to the changed hours.

Well, I have to say, I ended up here because of the many positive reviews, and I wasn't disappointed. The food is truly delicious and the portions are generous enough to satisfy even men :-)). I can wholeheartedly recommend Taste of Masala. After several vacations in England, where we visited fantastic Indian restaurants, I was very skeptical whether this restaurant in Gelsenkirchen could compete. The answer: It can! Taste of Masala certainly has nothing to hide. The chicken was very tender and flavorful, and the sauces and vegetables (spicy on the "Indian" level) were absolutely delicious and authentically prepared. The staff is extremely friendly, which is especially noteworthy in Germany. If there's one high-level suggestion for improvement, it would be the naan bread. It fell a bit short in quality compared to the other dishes (baked too hard, probably not freshly made?). But as I said, that's high-level criticism. We certainly won't be visiting Taste of Masala for the last time. This restaurant is an asset to Gelsenkirchen and Ückendorf, no less. Go there and see for yourself.

We ordered Chicken Curry and Biryani. The Biryani wasn’t that great, but it was okay. The Chicken Curry, however, was very sour – it tasted only like tomatoes. There were just too many tomatoes in it. This one star is only for the drinks, which were absolutely great. But the food was not tasty at all. I do not recommend it.

We love the butter chicken and naan. It's always so delicious. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to order food from there very often because my partner still spit fire even with the mildest version 😂😂 and he still loves it.

The menu contains a great mix of “Indian classics”, but also some dishes that you cannot find in every Indian restaurant in Germany. Update April 9, 2025 Our second visit. We didn't notice the move. A little at a loss (but that was here, wasn't it?) we wandered up and down the street before we found what we were looking for. With the new modern ambience things are getting better. Now the ambience, atmosphere and enjoyment of the food are harmonious. With a little decision-making help and explanations about the dishes, I decided to try something that was still unknown to me. It matched my expectations and was simply delicious. For me it could have even been a little less rice. In any case, it's enough to fill everyone up, but just for enjoyment it could have been a dollop more of the wonderful sauce. Since I would probably have burst then, it was probably a good thing. Please keep it up! ....... I like trying “new” restaurants. But I probably would have walked past this inconspicuous "snack bar" if I hadn't accidentally become aware of it through media reports and ultimately reviews. The ambience seems clean to me but also very simple and functional. But the first impression is deceiving. The rest has nothing to do with snack bars. Naturally friendly owners who ask about your wishes and satisfaction without being intrusive. Adjusting the spiciness wasn't a problem at all. Despite wanting a "mild" dish, this one had great spice and didn't taste boring at all. Unfortunately, this is not the case everywhere. Some reviews describe the portion size as small. For me these are “usual” portions. The bread we ordered was only necessary to dip the wonderful sauce a little. Conclusion: Ambiance could be improved, we'll come back for the rest.

Please make a reservation. 👌🏻 It's probably no longer an insider tip, as this wonderful restaurant on Bochumerstraße was completely sold out. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. Our group was particularly pleased with the option to choose a custom spice level (mild, European, medium, Indian). The look of the shop is—as is often the case—a matter of taste. The art on the walls really caught my attention and made me want to linger. Since the small space was a bit cramped, we ended up with "only" three stars. I'd be happy to return!

Food is delicious, portions for delivery are smaller than on site, the last 3 orders each had a foreign object in it: cable ties, steel sponge and a piece of hard plastic in the size of a 2 euro coin. No response to email, it's a shame, I only eat there myself.

Super friendly service, cozy atmosphere with warm colors and harmonious lighting. :) But the best part was the food! My chicken korma was perfectly seasoned, nice and creamy and had just the right amount of heat. It didn't taste like typical restaurant food, but more like an Indian friend's mother had invited me home and cooked for me - simply authentic and made with a lot of love. I'll definitely be back!

I can only give my absolute recommendation. I placed a larger order with several dishes and it was all one culinary delight. Here you can enjoy authentic Indian cuisine and a wide selection of typical dishes. From mild to Indian hot. If you're not used to spiciness, you should definitely order "mild" ;) We enjoyed it very much.

Unfortunately, an accident occurred during delivery, but the team reacted and acted very well. The food was very tasty!

Uncomfortable Cold Has nothing to do with India We can't judge the food because we left again

This review refers only to the service and ambience. The shop has nothing to do with India. Just like the service. Cold, no drinks, no decorations, nothing! Door slam. Uncomfortable! I'm not used to that from Indian restaurants!! Then I decided to leave without eating anything! 😑

A real recommendation! We ordered to pick up and were able to pick up within 15 minutes of ordering. Despite the long journey back, the food was still hot and still perfect thanks to the good packaging. Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala taste incredibly good, the rice is fluffy and the sauces are perfectly seasoned. The portions are incredibly large and almost impossible to eat with a naan. Price performance top. We will definitely order more often via our own website!

Since our stove/oven combination is currently broken and the replacement hasn't been connected yet, we've been ordering more in the last few days. In order not to live solely on the well-known fast food chains, we ordered Indian here. We initially received different dishes than we ordered. It's not a big deal for us, it's human! One call and the request was received and understood in a friendly and courteous manner. We received a subsequent delivery quickly. This is also service, excellently handled. (This could work differently elsewhere) The food was very tasty and the portion sizes were good, it was delivered hot and you had e.g. You could taste the chicken that high-quality ingredients were used. In terms of price, the whole thing is on a "restaurant level" - we keep the restaurant in mind and if it can be "something good" again, then we'll be happy to order again :-) We definitely recommend trying out the restaurant!

Today I ordered here for the first time. Delivery within 30 minutes. The food was hot and so delicious. Lamb Vindaloo, the meat was very tender and juicy. The sauce was very tasty, but a bit too spicy for me. I chose European spiciness. I would order this again, but next time I would turn down the spiciness a bit. But it's just subjective. Otherwise tip top.

This restaurant is a gem! Mainly a takeaway (and Lieferando), but there are a few tables inside. It's best to make reservations, but you can gamble and hope for a free table as well. (Google crowdedness is fairly accurate.) The food was sooo good. Very tasteful. I had the lamb Vindaloo and the flavour was exceptional. My wife had chicken sabz and there was plenty of vegetables with superb taste. The reviews really brought us here and they weren't wrong!

The food tasted very, very tasty, the portions were more than enough. The service was very friendly, helpful and willing to talk. Both the dining area and the toilets were very clean and cute. The price is also reasonable for the large portion. All in all we had a great experience and is really recommended.

If you like Indian food, you can't miss ToM in GE. Fresh ingredients and spices are used here and if you don't want to eat on site, it can also be delivered hot. Some dishes have three levels of spiciness, but be careful! “European spicy” will blow away the uninitiated and you should have milk or yoghurt nearby. I like spicy food, but "Indian Spicy" was a bit too fiery for me, albeit in a tasty way.

We love Indian food and have ordered here many times. Until today everything has always been great and very tasty. Ordered again today for around €100 and were unfortunately disappointed. The taste was ok but only 3 pieces of meat per portion and the sauce was very thin. Everything seemed very careless, maybe it was because of the European Championships because there was a lot to do. But we also ordered a small portion of ice cream for €4, which of course was totally liquid without a separate cool box. I think we'll be ordering from our former Indian restaurant in Bochum again soon.

The food was very tasty and the service was very friendly. Unfortunately it was very cold in the room and we had to wear jackets the whole time. According to the employee, this is due to the landlord who turned off the central heating a little early.
