Swaad Indien Restaurant in Darmstadt

The two of us had dinner at Swaad in Darmstadt on a Tuesday evening. The number of guests was manageable, which is why I was a bit surprised by the very slow service; they didn't ask for more drinks once as they were already empty before the main course. The opener was chicken soup, which looked very much like ready-made soup and didn't taste particularly good; at least she was hot. The main course was lamb curry with rice and naan. The naan was cold and in a plastic tray wrapped in aluminum foil; the curry came in a metal bowl with separate rice and at least warm too. I didn't get a fresh spoon either; The used part of the soup was simply taken from the plate and put back on the table. The highlight, however, was when we heard little taps and steps in the false ceiling, you can only guess which animal it was.. The ambience has hardly changed compared to the previous restaurant, just like broken lamps that have not been replaced. When paying there was a change of waiter, he wasn't particularly friendly, he probably came from the kitchen because he was wearing a dirty apron and shirt. Much more was expected for the price of the food. All in all not a good restaurant with bad service and more appearance than reality…

I have been visiting Sawaad ​​Restaurant for years and have always been a big fan of the atmosphere and the quality of the food. Unfortunately my last visit was a bit disappointing. The griddle that I used to love was no longer served on a tray, but just on a plate. This severely detracted from the entire experience for me. Another element that I missed was the characteristic rattle that used to be part of the meal and added a special touch. The food was still tasty, but the changes diminished the charm and tradition I associated with Sawaad. I hope that these aspects will be reconsidered because I would be happy to have an unforgettable experience again. Overall, it was a solid visit, but I'm hoping for improvements on my next visit. I have always appreciated the atmosphere and the quality of what you offer and I hope that these aspects will improve again by my next visit. If this is not the case, I seriously consider reconsidering my loyalty.

The service was an absolute disaster. It took 20 minutes for the drinks to be ordered. Then it took another 35 minutes until the drinks found their way to our table The food was even worse. In total we waited 1:45 hours for our food Unfortunately the rice was far too dry, the rest tasted ok

The ambience was very good. Mr. Puri was really kind and the service was very good. Food reminded me of India. Overall really good experience.

It's a shame, the service leaves a lot to be desired. It all takes far too long. The starter came before the drinks, which had to be reminded more often. One position was completely forgotten...Everything was very confused and disorganized.

Excellent meals but quite a big downside: the quantity of meat in the dishes is very minimalist for the price! How can I reach my daily protein quota under these conditions? There is really nothing to say about the quality of the dishes and drinks because everything was really excellent (chicken madras, natural nan, mango lassi...). It's just the quantity that leaves something to be desired. Maybe I'm too greedy after all... The service is overall quite good. The waitress gave me some recommendations and was very friendly. The big boss isn't very convenient, however, but it's not super annoying. The atmosphere is pleasant and we can hear each other talking. Overall, I still highly recommend it.

Went here on the recommendation of a good friend. My wife didn't feel like eating Indian food, so since my friend recommended it and Google review was also good, we went here for dinner. Unfortunately we were disappointed with both the food and the service. Onion bhaji was more breaded bhaji, was dry and didn't taste like anything. Samosa chat was ok, maybe suited to German tastes, so I wouldn't criticize it. Main course was chicken tikka which was mediocre. It tasted rather sour and in our opinion, yogurt simply suppressed the flavors of other spices. The drink we had was 'homemade' lemonade which was just too sweet. So sweet that even Pepsi was bearably sweeter than soda. The height of the disappointment was when we wanted to pay, the old man cheekily showed my wife the bill and was visibly angry that we wanted to pay by card. All in all it wasn't worth the visit. Ps The nice lady apologized when I told her that our onion bhaji simply had too much breading and didn't taste good.

Have ordered food. Delivery took two hours. Although when we first asked by phone they said it would take another 1-2 minutes. A court was ordered in mild. Unfortunately it was super spicy.

Reservation for 8 people was ignored, but it wasn't a problem as it was very quiet. Bottom tablecloth stained, service subpar (starter plates were simply left for the main course if you didn't give them back aggressively, the table wasn't cleared after the meal, not friendly) Food was mediocre, two dishes ordered at the same time were served as two different ones .

Reservierung für 8 Personen wurde nicht beachtet, war aber kein Problem, da es sehr ruhig war. Untere Tischdecke fleckig, Service unterirdisch ( Vorspeisen Teller wurden einfach für die Hauptspeise stehen lassen, wenn man sie nicht offensiv zurück gab, nach dem Essen wurde der Tisch nicht abgeräumt, nicht freundlich) Essen war mittelmäßig, zwei gleich bestellte Gerichte wurden als zwei Verschiedene serviert.

We can't rate the food and atmosphere at all because it was the worst service ever. Despite a confirmed reservation, the restaurant was closed on Sunday lunchtime and there was a handwritten note on the door saying it wouldn't open until the evening. Since there was no rejection despite leaving contact details, we drove 20 km for nothing! The birthday menu fell through. So be careful if it's going to be an important meal... PS: The operator stopped responding to emails after that. Sorry nil...

I ate here for the first time today with my vegetarian father and my partner. First of all, we noticed the waitress very positively. She has a positive attitude and is very friendly and courteous and works quickly. The starter we ordered was super tasty. Our main courses were absolutely delicious. I had chicken korma, my partner had butter chicken and my father had kadai panner. We can warmly recommend this restaurant. Unfortunately we forgot to take photos of the food. We'd love to come back, even if we have to drive 38km.

Recently I visited this restaurant I must say the owner was very nice and courteous . We were in hurry and told this to the owner and he literally arrange the food within 10 minutes . The food was very tasty .

I will gladly come again. There is a large menu with some vegetarian dishes. I found what I was looking for and my curry was very aromatic. The portions are also really big, so I was able to take a leftover home with me. My companion's chicken is also said to have tasted very good. Overall really tasty, but it's not quite enough for 5 stars. But I was missing something special in terms of taste and I don't think I would have found that many other options on the menu that I would have wanted to choose. The prices are OK. Especially because the portions are quite large. In the restaurant itself we were warmly welcomed and given good advice. A young waitress served us. Unfortunately we waited over an hour for the food. The naan bread and the subz shahi korma were not that flavorful. Every now and then other guests received a dish with “smoking onions?!”, unfortunately they then sat in the haze of this smoke. A little uncomfortable.

We were there for lunch. At 1 p.m. we were the only guests in the restaurant. Two more tables arrived while we were there. The very cheap lunch including drinks for (9.90) was good so far. So I can't really say much about the food after the first visit... The service staff was friendly, but the nice lady had a cold, which didn't seem very appetizing to us. What the restaurant should definitely work on is hygiene and cleanliness. There was bird poop in the entrance area directly on the steps that led to the restaurant. There were what felt like 100 cigarettes right in front of the entrance area. Maybe sweep before opening. The worst thing for us was that the candles and the set plates at the table were dusty. The flower oasis was also totally dusty. That tells me that no attention is paid to hygiene and cleanliness here.

It used to be incredibly tasty, but unfortunately it has deteriorated considerably. Now rather greasy and unseasoned, a shame!

We had a small family celebration at Swaad. Everything was great. The service was very friendly, the food was delicious. We had vegan, vegetarian, fish, chicken and lamb as well as a starter platter. We will come back in any case!

Addendum 4 months later: We are repeat offenders and recommend the restaurant despite having a replacement chef at the moment. The owner and staff are very friendly and accommodating. If you have any problems or questions, they are more than helpful and accommodating. We were and are very satisfied and will definitely come back. 4 months ago: The best Indian food we've ever had. Fresh ingredients, large portions, beautifully prepared. Service very friendly and accommodating. Absolutely recommended.

The food was really great, I was quite Hungry and tried one dinner time which was more than enough. But prices differ from the google, outside banner of the restaurant and actual price which was higher than the online search. The staffs are really helpful and atmosphere is also great 🎊

Our order simply wasn't delivered. Not waiting even after 2 hours. When we decided to drive to the restaurant, we were “allowed” to eat there. A waiter said the drinks were on the house. But in the end we still paid for everything.

The restaurant was about a third full when we arrived, so the following shouldn't have happened: First they forgot to bring us cards, only two out of five of the drinks were as ordered and could only be corrected in two further attempts, the main course came after 90 minutes, the starter didn't come at all (but it was on the bill). Other guests had to wait just as long and were similarly upset. The supposed boss didn't try to explain or apologize, but at least gave us a drink on the house, hence two stars instead of one for the service. The ambience, including the sanitary facilities, is somewhere between a snack bar and a restaurant. Because the food was very good, there are at least three stars.

Swaad is our go-to take-out. Delicious lamb, fantastic okra, and perfect naan.

Disaster, wrong food and also delivered burnt. With starter and naan bread €25, never more. Absolutely unfriendly on the phone. No. 22 was ordered, the bowl said number 23, which doesn't exist. Burnt chicken with salad.

All in all, the food was OK to good, but the service was rather poor. When we were there there was very little going on. Unfortunately we sat at a table that had food stains. The floor wasn't clean either. The waitress was friendly. I had the Daal Shorba, which tasted strongly of vegetable broth, which unfortunately isn't really authentic. Only later did we order a grill plate, which took over 30 minutes until it was at our table. And with so few customers! However, the grill plate was very tasty and the meat was juicy. However, the rice seemed old or wasn't cooked long enough. We couldn't pay the bill properly - usually the waiter takes the money and gives the rest of the money back. That wasn't the case with us. The waitress took the money, disappeared into the back room and came out a little later without giving us the rest of the money back. So that was the icing on the cake of our experience at this restaurant. When we asked, we still got the remaining money. But it was never meant to come to that. We were also disappointed that there was no chai on the menu. Therefore I cannot understand the reviews here on Google.

Delivery took too long (more than an hour), dishes were no longer warm, two main dishes were delivered incorrectly, a side dish was missing, naan bread was burnt, re-delivery was refused. Very unreasonable on the phone, what a shame.

We went there for dinner on a Saturday evening with a table reservation. Very large selection, the food was really tasty, could have been a little warmer. The young lady who served us was extremely friendly and accommodating, which cannot be said about the very grumpy-looking gentleman who cashed us in the end. He stood at the table panting loudly and presented us with the bill in a very unfriendly tone. That was the only negative point, but we noticed it very unpleasantly. So 5 stars for the friendly young waitress, zero stars for the gentleman.

During our visit to Darmstadt yesterday, we went to Swaad Darmstadt because we wanted to eat good Indian food and the restaurant was close to our hotel. The main courses Chicken Vindaloo and Chicken Mango were good, although the mango sauce was far too fruity for me; But my wife liked it. Unfortunately the naan bread was a bit dry and could have been better. The restaurant interior is very old and overall not very Indian. There were also withered roses in the small vases on the tables, dried bromeliad blossoms in the boxes; and then completely dried out poinsettias in plastic plant pots without planters. :-(( Unfortunately, some of the menu sheets were very sticky and might need to be cleaned from time to time. Food prices are not exactly cheap, but within the local range (old menu hung outside with significantly lower prices; of course that doesn't work). Most of the drinks were significantly too expensive, with the menu in most cases only offering 0.4 liters, so there were no smaller alternatives. So we only shared a large bottle of water. Service staff friendly and attentive. Several typos on the receipt with the standard text; Apparently Google Translate wasn't even tried... So overall the food was quite good, but the rest could be improved.

Ich war zuletzt mit Freunden hier essen und muss sagen: Es ist ehrliche indische Küche, aber dabei eben auch nicht perfekt. Die Soßen zu den Samosas waren spitze, aber auch notwendig, weil die Samosas selbst recht trocken waren. Bei den Hauptgerichten war das Fleisch recht trocken, ist aber in leckerer Sauce getränkt gewesen. Fazit: Wenn man mal Lust auf indisches Essen "in der Nähe" hat, macht man mit einem Halt hier sicherlich nichts verkehrt, aber es lädt mich jetzt nicht zum Immer-Wieder-Kommen ein.

The food is ok but the garlic naan and paneer tikka are outstanding, good quality rice,, the atmosphere is good but the flowers in the showcase bottle should be replaced on time otherwise they die... service is slow because of rush and lot of online delivery orders... Expect delays in service. Shahi paneer, bhindi masala and other dishes are ok to try but they need to improve on their quality.

Wanted to eat there for the first time at lunchtime today. The lunch menu was put on the table and then nothing happened for 20 minutes. Not even at any other table. There were only 3 other tables occupied. We then left, as did another guest who had already been there for a while. We won't go here anymore!

Wanted to eat lunch. But the waiter was not interested to take my order. When I came there was only 1 other table with people. After 10 minutes I got the menu, same time as another table that just came in. Quickly found what I wanted. But the waiter was more interested to pick his nose and talk on the phone. So after 15 minutes and no luck getting his attention I left. Went to another Indian restaurant down the road. It was a lot more people, still I got served very fast.

The food is really good here. Almost authentic Indian taste. Quantity suits the price. Not too costly as well. Service is great, atmosphere is okayish. Location is very good, right next to the Rhejn Neckarstraße Tram station. Surely recommended if you want to visit an Indian restaurant in Darmstadt!

Wir haben heute das erste Mal hier bestellt, 3 Essen für knapp 55€. Sehr lecker war die Soße und der Reis!!! Aber die Fleischgerichte hatten 6! Stückchen Hähnchen (zäh) und das Garnelengericht, ebenfalls 6 Garnelen. Prinzipiell lecker, Preis-/Leistung total inakzeptabel, bestellen leider nicht ein weiteres Mal und besuchen auch nicht das Restaurant persönlich. Schade!

Mussten selbst ausrechnen wer was zu zahlen hat, Weile s zu viel Arbeit sei für den Chef. Kurz nach dem Essen kam noch ein kleiner Nager im Lokal zu Besuch unter den Tischen. Das Essen war schon gut, Service nett aber also nochmal nicht ...

One of the best North Indian restaurants in Darmstadt. The taste of famous North Indian curries like Butter Chicken, Dal Makhni, Butter Paneer, Tikka and Garlic Naan will remind you of some Indian restaurants back home. My go to order place on a Friday night or when I am craving Butter chicken.

Leider kann ich die guten Bewertungen hier nicht nachvollziehen. Vorneweg: Die Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter waren sehr freundlich. Leider gehe ich aber nicht für ein nettes Gespräch Essen. Allgemein ist das Essen eher mittelmäßig. Wenig Geschmack und an Fleisch/Käse/Gemüse-Bällchen etc. wird offensichtlich an der Menge gespart. Und das obwohl die Preise nicht günstig sind. Darüber hinaus ist der Service leider nur freundlich. Sonst chaotisch und langsam. Bestellungen wurden nicht korrekt aufgenommen. Das Ambiente war leider auch nicht sehr ansprechend. Die Bilder hier sind schon nicht einladend. Tatsächlich aber nochmal deutlich trostloser. Das schlimmste war allerdings, dass wir ca. 1,5h auf unser Essen gewartet haben. Als Grund wurde genannt, dass zu viele externe Bestellungen angenommen worden wären. Da das auch in anderen Bewertungen schon erwähnt wurde, muss man leider davon ausgehen, dass man unzufriedene Gäste in Kauf nimmt, wenn der Umsatz im Liefergeschäft dafür stimmt. Fazit: kann man machen, wenn man Zeit und kein Anspruch hat. Aber empfehlenswert ist es wirklich nicht.

Lekker eten, goed gekruid. Vriendelijke bediening en goed prijs kwaliteit verhouding. De mixed plates zijn een aanrader.

Wir waren zur Mittagszeit dort und haben zwei Gerichte bestellt (ein vegetarisches und eines mit Fleisch). Bei letzterem Gericht konnte man die Fleischstücke an einer Hand abzählen. Im Allgemeinen waren beide Gerichte ihre 9,90 € absolut nicht wert. Im Wesentlichen bestanden sie aus einem lieblosen Haufen Reis mit der gleichen Soße (außer dass beim Fleischgericht 4-5 Fleischstücke draufgeworfen und etwas Kokosraspeln darüber gestreut wurden). Als ob das nicht genug wäre, wurde ich beim Kassieren unangenehm überrascht. Der Wirt wollte mir satte 5 € für mein überzuckertes Mango-Lassi berechnen. So viel habe ich noch nie für ein Mango-Lassi in einem indischen Restaurant (weltweit) bezahlen müssen. Der Wirt lächelte müde und sagte: "Ja, ist ein bisschen teuer, hehe". Das war definitiv das letzte Mal, dass ich in diesem Abzockladen war. Ich werde es auch niemandem weiterempfehlen. Es gibt definitiv bessere Alternativen in Darmstadt.

The 3 different chatni with samosas made us so happy they ticked on every flavor we wanted to try. We had nan and curry it was perfect for Indian spice craving i had. I would really recommend this place to anyone who wanna try Indian food in Darmstadt

Sorry, aber das geht gar nicht: mein Salz/Pfeffer Set nahm man mir weg um es an einen anderen Tisch zu bringen , es scheint nur einen zu geben der dann herumgereicht wird. Das benutzte Besteck der Vorspeise wird auf die Tischdecke gelegt für die Hauptspeise. Das Essen - in diesem Fall Menü - bestand aus kleinen Schalen mit undefinierbaren Saucen ...Sauce reichlich....und des Rätsels Lösung war dann nur auf Nachfrage zu erkennen was es sein soll. Das Personal scheint bei 40% Restaurant Auslastung vollkommen überarbeitet zu sein. Der Chef läuft zwar einmal durch die Gänge aber fragt seine Gäste auch nicht ab. Leider, aber nie wieder
