The beer Garten looks very inviting, especially outside with the fairy lights. The quality of the drinks however is bad. Our group ordered several different beers, they all tasted the same and had an extremely bad aftertaste. Aperol just tastes watered down.

Everytime I come here the beer and cocktails are wack. I think they are not even serving what it says on the tap but some haus beer. Atmosphere is top but the quality of drinks make the experience unenjoyable.

It's idyllically situated beneath the trees. The Battey entrance doesn't exactly make you expect a location like this. On a club trip with a music group, we were looking for a place for a nightcap. Thanks to a local, we found you, and we absolutely loved it. We'd love to come back on another occasion. Greetings from Switzerland.

A beer garden for regulars. The alternative atmosphere is pleasant among the plants, but smoking is allowed and the windbreak layout makes the place turn blue with smoke. It's suffocating for non-smokers.

Regulars' table over the summer at various locations. This time, it was all about substance and surprised everyone with a great and quite large beer garden and incredibly delicious food. After crossing a courtyard entrance, a rustically furnished courtyard opens up, where seating is available on various levels and in various spots. The menu is manageable, but absolutely sufficient for a beer garden and really good. The beef burger was juicy (there was also a vegetarian option), the bun (homemade?) was crispy, and the potato dippers (not fries in the true sense of the word) were crispy and well-seasoned. Food and drinks are served at separate stations, and service is fast, keeping wait times to a minimum despite the packed place. Reservations are not possible, and IMPORTANT: CASH ONLY.

The Substanz is a fixture in the alternative bar scene – and rightfully so. Rough, charming, and authentic. If you're not looking for a high-gloss bar, but rather honest beer, good music, and a relaxed atmosphere, this is the place for you. The clientele is diverse, the staff direct but friendly. What's particularly cool are the regular concerts and events that make this place more than just a bar. Prices are fair, and outdoor seating is very popular in the summer.

Just yesterday, I discovered this fantastic beer garden: Great atmosphere, friendly people, the fries (with mayo and ketchup) were delicious, and so was the Kostritzer beer. What more could you want? It's only a 4-minute bike ride from the Literaturhaus. So you finally know where to go after an event at the LitHaus.

Unfortunately, the organization of the season opening was more than chaotic and leaves a lot to be desired for the coming summer. Entry stop even though there were enough free tables, a bar that closes half an hour while it's running and still serves drinks to selected people in the back and no food after 4 p.m. and yet other people still got a so-called nacho plate. A relaxed Saturday in the sun definitely looks different! Too bad!

Terrible service. Unfortunately I can't say anything about the food as it never happened. We waited an hour for our burgers. When we asked at the bar, we received no information, only unfriendly comments. It's really not possible to discuss things with guests who have been waiting so long. The two kitchen workers said it would take at least another 20 minutes, which is strange since there were only 5 order slips hanging over them. We couldn't wait that long and wanted to leave. They didn't want to hand over our money (payment in advance including tip!!!) at first. After further discussion we got our money back for the meal, but not the tip. Making guests wait so long, not letting them know, then becoming unfriendly and not giving out all the money they paid is really a very low level of service. Despite the lovely ambience, I will never see this store again.

After waiting for over an hour, I asked where the food was. I was told it would take another half hour. This should have been communicated when ordering!! Since we didn't expect a 1.5-hour wait and had to leave, we wanted our money back and left. The waiter was quite rude—we only got it back after a discussion. Overall, a very unpleasant experience, unfortunately.

Rustic pub charm, I like the layout of the space. I find the food a bit expensive, but tasty. The fact that lattice potatoes were sold as fries broke my heart, but the staff easily made up for it. I almost felt like I was with friends. Funny floor by the toilets, like walking on blankets. It's also great that the kitchen takes so long

Beer is expensive five euros for a non-carbonated beer and when I asked if the waitress could turn on the carbonation for you, she said no one else was complaining, well it was better

Not even a French fries (lattice fries!) 5 minutes after 9 p.m., and that in a beer garden...fail. And then not being able to accept the criticism, double fail.

Traditional pub in the east of the city. It's actually quite nice, but the atmosphere isn't really comfortable. But it's certainly also a question of taste. In any case, you can't go wrong with a visit.

Classic beer garden in the suburbs but easily reached in the 4, 7 and 12 trams then a walk of a few minutes. Do bring cash as they don’t take cards. Bar staff very friendly, food folk very laid back and helpful. Lots of vegetarian options. Definitely recommended.

Hey, please grill/fry your burger patties thoroughly or be particularly careful with the heat. you can imagine why I'm writing this. edit: the operator answers something below that I can't confirm. Had 2* burgers this summer, 2* raw in the middle and after 2* it was in my stomach. It can happen, but if you categorically rule it out, then again literally: food poisoning!

I have known the substance for many years (including with different operators); The backyard is a gem and a wonderful, rustic beer garden, with various seating options and a pleasant atmosphere. You have to be here! Even in winter the seating inside is quite hip, of course with fewer seats than outside. That's why I like being here more often; There aren't many beer garden options in Reudnitz either. The prices are still ok (as of July 24), but they are already around 5 euros for the keg krosti, which I think is plenty for a beer like this. Alternative is the house beer: 4 euros. Burgers are also available for purchase, with and without animals, so there is something for everyone. Attention - no card payment possible! When the weather is good you sometimes have to stand at the bar for quite a long time (SB), that depends entirely on the (under)staffing. This changes frequently. What I don't like: that on the warmest day of the week and with good attendance, it is no longer possible to serve kegs shortly before 11 p.m. (officially the bar closes at 11 p.m., i.e. one hour before closing!, "depending on the weather"). It's already half closed, they're tidying up and pointing out bottled goods - a shame and annoying. If you want to get rid of your paying guests at eleven, you probably shouldn't hire someone in a beer garden...

I really enjoy being here. Both in the beer garden and inside in the cozy atmosphere. I've never eaten here but the drinks are great value for money and super tasty. Clean toilets, few parking spaces in front of it, parking next to it is possible for a penny. Very romantic and beautiful there. Always my pleasure! Even small concerts are a lot of fun there.

The sweet beer garden particularly stands out for its pleasant atmosphere. It's self-service here, the food and drinks are quite tasty, there's a relatively good selection of vegan dishes, and the prices are good. However, payment is only possible in cash! The first time I was there, my bike, which was locked in the bike parking lot in front, was stolen. This is not the store's responsibility, but it still affected my experience.

One of the coziest beer gardens in Leipzig! The burgers are delicious and the selection of drinks at the bar is really good. You must pick up your own food and drinks. Personally, I really like the concept. We were lucky that there was even a small concert on the evening we were there.

We were here again. Prices, like everywhere else, have increased significantly in some cases, but are still very acceptable and fair. The burgers + fries taste very good and everything went well with my reservation. I just haven't received a response to my email to date. Will be back (rating now goes from 4 to 5 stars) ___________ Absolutely inviting location! Top drink prices! But unfortunately the bar was surprisingly closed shortly after midnight - without notice (Saturdays). When asked why there wasn't a final round, they said: "Otherwise too many people would order something else", okay, all right! The kitchen was also closed shortly after 9 p.m., so some of us had to get food outside. Update: Thanks for the answer! Explained this way it makes sense (+1 star). But the answer we got was unfortunate...

Best biergarden that we have experienced in Leipzig. Delicious and affordable food with several drink options also for cheap price. Definitely will visit again. Plus, very children friendly

Underground. Unfortunately, all that remains of the substance is the name. Quality of the food has decreased massively. What annoys me most in this context, however, is the outrageous behavior of the new operator. He called the substance “our baby” in the reviews here. That's not her baby. You have not created anything here, but rather appropriated someone else's work. Everyone wants the old substance back. Just as she once was: sincere and authentic! Today is a bad impression, nothing more!

A place where I love to go in the run-up to Christmas and just enjoy the ambience. In addition, there is delicious mulled wine from Sachsenobst and very friendly staff. An insider tip in Leipzig-Reudnitz. Can just be recommended.

Ich muss @klutte leider zustimmen: Seit dem Betreiberwechsel 2022 hat die Qualität der Speisen deutlich nachgelassen. Früher waren die Burger legendär. Heute wartet man bis zu 60 min. auf eine Currywurst. Wenigstens gibts es Buzzer, sodass man nicht eine Stunde vor der Ausgabe stehen muss… Krass war, dass wir anstatt der normalen Wurst, ungefragt eine Mischung aus der veganen Seitan-Variante und der Fleischvariante bekamen… sowas hab ich noch nie erlebt! Auf Nachfrage hieß es nur: ‚seid froh dass es überhaupt noch was zu essen gibt‘. Die Pommes und Brötchen als Beilage waren nämlich aus… man bekam alternativ labberige, kalte Kartoffelpuffer. Das heißt, lieber vorher woanders was essen, bevor man hier was trinken geht. Was für ein Absturz! Die zwei Sterne gibt’s für die guten Getränke und das nette Personal an der Bar. ... OMG, was für Beleidigungen und unprofessionelle Antworten vom Inhaber hier gepostet werden. Manche Wirte nehmen Kritik als Anlass, ihre Betriebsabläufe zu überprüfen; hier anscheinend nicht. Loben darf man, aber jeder der kritisiert soll besser ganz wegbleiben. Leider gibt’s in Reudnitz kaum Alternativen - der nächste Biergarten ist der Bayerische Bahnhof (meine Empfehlung).

Einer der schönsten Biergarten Leipzig. Super Location, nette Leute, nettes Personal und Ambiente. Die Bürger sind auch empfehlenswert. Preise sind Human und angemessen. Einziger kleiner Nachteil, dass man nur bar zahlen kann

Der Biergarten hat ein tolles, entspanntes Ambiente mit studentischem Charme. Sehr empfehlenswert für einen schönen Abend unter Freunden.

Nettes Ambiente, gute kühle Getränke, leider 1-2 Bienen Zuviel

Sehr gemütlicher Hinterhofbiergarten mit Live-Band-Bühne, leckerem (auch vegetarischem und veganen) Essen und Selbstbedienung. Einziger Nachteil sind die teils langen Schlagen an den Selbstbedienungsständen vor allem bei voller Auslastung des Biergartens. Hier könnte logistisch noch nachjustiert werden.

Ein wundervoller Biergarten in einem Hinterhof. Leckeres Essen- bitte Wartezeit mitbringen- und Getränke zu guten Preisen. Sehr nettes Personal. Habe mich sehr gut gefühlt.

Ich war mit ein paar Kollegen von der Arbeit da. Es wirkt von außen als wäre es leerstehend. Wenn du dann aber in den Biergarten im Hunterhof gehst hast du alles wieder vergessen. Eine Tolle Lokation und wenn das Bier oder alle anderen Alkoholischen Getränke fließen geht es am nächsten Tag ganz schön auf die "Substanz" natürlich gibt es auch Alkoholfreie Getränke. Das essen ist gut gemischt von Bürgern mit Fleisch bis hin zur vegetarischen Variante. Man sollte auch zeitnah da sein sonst sind die guten Plätze ruckzuck weg 😉 Was man noch sagen muss ist , das nur Bargeld aktiviert wird. Ich komm auf jedenfall wieder zu euch.

Der Biergarten im Innenhof eines alten Gebäudes direkt an der Straße ist sehr idyllisch und voll mit Sträuchern und Bäumen. Eine Kleine Oase im Großstadtdschungel. Es gibt hier leckeres Hausbier zu einem guten Preis. Es gab zahlreiche Reservierungen und der Garten füllte sich sehr schnell trotz des Regenwetters. Ein Teil des Innenhofes ist überdacht, was auch einen Besuch bei schlechtem Wetter möglich macht.
