Smash by Hauptstadtburger in Berlin

The burger wasn't bad, but it wasn't outstanding either. The problem was that it was very greasy, but it still had plenty of flavor.

We didn't have many expectations, just a quick bite to eat before watching the football. You can eat the burgers, but they are simply too expensive. I ordered Cajuns with my burger. Instead of Cajuns (which are more expensive than fries), I got regular fries. The seller ignored my advice and gave me a small dollop of some sauce that didn't taste good. Of course it doesn't work that way. Once and never again.

Saddest burger ever. For €7 you got a flabby roll from the bag, a good patty and some steamed onions. Afterwards I went to Burgermeister and got a real burger there.

I was here on the day of the Berlinale and had a burger and cheese fries. Food came quite quickly. Fries were okay, but the burger was very small. Service was nice. Prices are okay.

I ordered for dinner at my hotel. The order arrived very quickly. Everything came perfectly packaged and at the perfect temperature to eat. The burger tasted amazing. The potatoes are very delicious too. I would return to Berlin to eat it again.

Hamburger was so delicious and fries with truffle sauce is amazing! Employees also so friendly I will prefer it later too! and prices are also more than fair. Thank you Shadab and Gizem for offering this delicious meal:)

Really delicious burgers! The meat is juicy, well seasoned and grilled to perfection. The side dishes such as fries are also crispy and fresh. A great place if you're craving a really good burger!

Really good burger spot on Wittenbergplatz, not far from KaDeWe. The burgers are prepared quickly and freshly. We ate the classic cheeseburger and one Classic Cheeseburger Double with bacon and jalapenos; both very juicy 🤤 and delicious!

Super rude, first she gets my order wrong (she takes my order with headphones and while she's on her cell phone) then she says it's my fault (my sister was next to me heard what I had ordered) and just discussed it with me in a very unfriendly manner. Somehow she also spoke English sometimes which was super confusing. Would give 0 stars if I could eat it, it was ok IG. I was there on January 20, 2025 at around 5 p.m. the employees were an absolute disgrace, I hope they are reprimanded.

The burger looked delicious, we ordered two Classic Cheeseburgers to go (we read on the sign that it came with mustard) at no time did we see that the cook put even a drop of mustard on either of the two burgers, we very politely asked the guy who ordered Lastly he prepared them (for the tallest man with a thick beard) that he can put mustard since it comes with that ingredient on the sign and he very reluctantly responded…”yes I put them. “..!! and we told her no! , because our eyes were fixed on their preparation, from the moment the first cook places the ball of meat on the grill, flattens it with the round steel instrument, places salt and a slice of cheddar cheese on top, and Then he covers it with another metal instrument so that the cheese melts. I don't know if I understand this but with this I mean that we were very attentive to the preparation process, so the second guy who prepares the hamburgers very reluctantly responded. that's ok well he's going to put a little mustard on the last burger he gave us and on the first one he's very sure.. he said he's definitely not going to put more! , because he had already put them in, after 5 steps we decided with my husband to check if the hamburgers had the said mustard... and of course they didn't because, at no point did he take the mustard plastic, but very stupid and very rude he said that he won't put no mustard since he only puts a drop and it clearly won't show, my husband told him that that is not the way to serve and I told him that he should be kind and not rude to his customers, he He got excited and didn't even let us talk, my husband asked the cashier to please return the money since it's not okay to make a big deal out of not adding mustard, and the very bold man said no! He is not going to return anything and after a while he said that he can only return the money once and no more, and then another time, very arrogantly, he told my husband who are you? Who are you ? .. in a haughty way and my husband replied, I'm the customer .. and well, the cashier who could only speak English didn't say anything and simply gave us back and that's it .. How sad to have had this inconvenience on our last day of stay in Berlin, but this guy was the bad memory that should not serve the clientele of that beautiful business in the beautiful city of Berlin. We were looking forward to that delicious burger but it is not right for anyone to be arrogant, I don't know who the owner or employee is but they should train him for better customer service and to be respectful of others.

BEST SMASH BURGERS IN THE CITY, I RECOMMEND TO TRY IT.

Rarely have I had such a good burger. Service was also super friendly and the atmosphere was just a snack bar vibe but still good.

This burger kiosk is truly a hidden gem in Berlin! The preparation is super easy, but the taste is simply incredible. The burgers are extremely juicy, the portions are generous, and the smell alone makes you want more. The card is small, but that's exactly what makes the difference - the focus is on quality. The meat is plentiful and perfectly prepared, the homemade sauces and the pickled cucumbers are simply amazing. Even the rolls are wonderfully soft and fit perfectly into the overall package. Although the kiosk is very small and may not be visually impressive, it impresses with its taste and unbeatable prices. For me, this is an absolute recommendation – anyone in Berlin should definitely try this burger. I'm totally thrilled!

We were there twice during a 3-day Berlin city trip. We loved the buttermilk chicken sandwich! Clear recommendation, unfortunately we live 6 hours away and we have to do without for now.

Hygiene urgently needs to be checked: employee is outside with drinks and trash cans, and then puts the cucumbers on the burger with the same black gloves 3 minutes later. Of course, without washing your hands in between. Taste ok, but no power.

Crazy, but it was my first stop when revisiting Berlin from Chicago. I dream about the smashburgers here, especially the onion one. The best!! Get extra pickles. 😋😋😋

Never eat there, don't do that to yourself, burgers totally dry, super incompetent staff and extreme waiting times with moderate occupancy. I waited 30 minutes for 2 burgers. People who ordered after me finished their food before I had mine. After repeated requests, my burger still wasn't ready. Never here again.

Unfortunately no! Everything looks better than it is and at the first bite it becomes clear, good decoration but poor technique. Quality of the ingredients is also poor for the prices, I didn't want to finish my burger. Go to Goldies if you want divine smash burgers! I ordered a fried onion chili burger. What I got was anything but chili burgers! A carelessly crumpled up thing. When I pointed out to the employee that the burger wasn't what I ordered, I was very rudely replied with "ONLY jalapenos are missing." Then my burger was brutally torn apart and missing jalapenos were thrown in without spreading them on the burger. Then crumpled it up again so that half of the meat fell out again during packaging. You can see it clearly in the photo. You also have to be able to salt! Burger was oversalted in places or completely missing salt. My colleague's entire burger was without salt. My colleague's cheese slices were simply stuffed in at the end without having the chance to melt. What if they were stuck between a bun and cold jalapenos with a slice of cucumber and not on the meat when grilled like a real smash burger. All in all, just an expensive failure! And so that those responsible are held accountable, my visit was on October 23rd, 2024 at around 6:30 p.m. You can easily see who was on shift.

If you like a completely overpriced, fat-dripping "lattice" of minced meat, with a little bun that's way too soft, a hint of cucumber, tomato and onions, this is the place for you. The biggest thing about the €6.50 mini burger was the paper it was wrapped in. Not recommended at all in terms of taste and price. I have no idea where all the very good reviews come from.

I can't understand the positive reviews. Some flattened minced meat in a bun that was way too soft. The rest has the taste and consistency of liquid soap. The entry-level model is available for 6.50. Can you save...

Small snack bar that makes very good burgers and also has (somewhat) reasonable prices, considering Berlin and the location on Wittenberg Platz. A very good place to have on hand and as a quick snack at lunch or evening. Will definitely come back again.

Not a place I would again, specially not as a tourist after our experience last night. We ordered 2 burgers and 2 fries, and the (Indian/pakistani) man reused some fries with our fresh fries. I made it very clear for him that I saw it; and that was not an honest act. But he didn’t care at all, and tried to tell me that’s normal. Anyways, he ended up using old fries with fresh fries, and I can only wonder how they potentially do the same with other leftovers or meats/ingredients. It killed our experience and the burger was not even as good as exercise

Big city atmosphere and great food 🫶🏻 I was in Berlin for a few days and my hotel was within walking distance of this inconspicuous shop in the middle of the traffic island. I tried something one evening and then I ate there every day after the Dämpelhof concerts. When I'm in Berlin I will definitely come back here.

It’s “all right”. I mean, the buttermilk chicken sandwich is for sure the best thing on the menu. Their smash burger lacks the grease, which is one of the most important components of any authentic American smash burger. A good smash burger should have good beef & some fat, so the patty is juicy. The smash burger in this place is dry and they try to make up for it with ketchup, mustard, pickles & onions, but it doesn’t do the trick. The 90’s rap playlist is dope, though. I like the atmosphere. I just wish they put more emphasis on the quality of their smash burger since they claim to be one of the only authentic American joints in Berlin. Unfortunately, they are not. I say this as someone who has been enjoying smash burgers since I was a child. 3/5 at best!

Was there for the first time and was not disappointed. Classic SmashBurger with, in my opinion, a top Brioche Bun that fits perfectly. Ordering went really quickly, even though there was a lot going on. Only the ambience seems a bit shabby and old, but it doesn't matter at all in terms of taste

How can the burgers be so different? Thursday: Crispy, juicy, very well seasoned. People are full of praise. Good process. Short waiting time. Monday: dry old bun, unseasoned patty, bone dry, no sauce - almost disgusting. 30 minutes waiting time. “Forgot” half the order. Unfortunately that was nothing. Is it the chefs or the days of the week? Or both? There are WORLDS between July 11th, 2024 and July 15th, 2024. What are you doing?

Wow, that was nothing, now I wanted to try the highly praised burger and it was a failure. Staff unfriendly and not exactly motivated. Tables dirty even though there was nothing going on. The burger tasted like nothing and the burger bun was completely soggy. And that for 6.50 euros.
