Sidewalk ASIAN STREETFOOD in Kiel

Incomprehensibly hyped restaurant. We were in Holtenauer 113 (formerly Burger Bank)... The bank's furnishings were taken over, I think it's okay - but "decorating" the ceiling with cheap lanterns doesn't necessarily make the ambience nicer. The tables are also very close together... It's more like a company canteen. We waited 50 minutes for our drinks - I find this incomprehensible in a restaurant with 40 tables. The starters, wonton and a mixed plate, arrived 15 minutes later, the main courses, baoBurger and a pho dish were served during the delayed starter. The wontons were really good, mixed platters with mango salad (tasty), dim sum (nothing surprising) and 1 summer roll, which was characterized by an unpleasant dryness - it had probably been there for a while? Burger topped with 2 tiny dead-fried industrial patties, lettuce leaf, 1 raw onion ring, a reasonable number of sweet potato fries, mixed salad without dressing. I think the price of 17.50 is steep. The pho dish with tender beef turned out to be a bit of broth in which tough chunks of beef were simmering, and the rice noodles that came with it were standard. All in all it was very disappointing. Ok for a quick lunch, but if you want a nice Vietnamese meal, you should look for alternatives.

Unfortunately, the new branch on Holtenauer Straße is totally disappointing. We ordered food to pick up. Our order was forgotten and we waited almost 1 1/2 hours. Excessive demands on those involved alone. I would have liked to have been more accommodating. Not again so soon.

We had just ordered via Lieferando. 3 dishes and all three taste great. Likewise the two starters. Sure delivery time and we are difficult to find, doubly difficult for the driver and despite this the best option when it comes to Filipino cuisine. Super happy with the coach. Intoxicated by the coconut-curry-peanut-soy flavor. Delicious.

Unfortunately a big disappointment. We were in the new Sidewalk at the corner of Knooper Weg. (Otherwise always in Sidewalk Holtenauer Str. 53, we have had good experiences there so far) The store wasn't particularly full, but we and all the guests around us had to wait an extremely long time. Our table neighbors were completely forgotten. Unfortunately, the food came at very different times, and not just for us. One is still hungry, the other is already full. Although full would have been nice, because the food was so salty that it was impossible to finish. (It was the same at the next table). Unfortunately, there was little professional response to the complaint. It's a shame, because the atmosphere is really nice and the food is well prepared. But that alone is not enough. Mistakes can happen, no problem at all and we fully understand if things don't go smoothly. But as a service provider you should at least respond to complaints in a nice and professional manner. P.S. Whether the “homemades” are worth their 5.90 euros remains to be seen. Ultimately a little ready-made juice with water in a 0.3 glass. At least there was mint on top. Maybe it was homemade. ;) Now there's a bucket of good Kiel tap water to bring the salt balance in the body back into balance :) Cheers.

While it was a small establishment, it did not hinder how lovely everything was! We enjoyed the food that was served to us and were actually surprised at how similar it tasted to the dishes we had in Vietnam! If you want to experience good quality food and don’t mind perhaps sharing your space with other guests, then this place is truly amazing!

I had made a reservation on the terrace and had it confirmed. We were assigned a table directly on Holtenauer Straße. The reaction was very unfriendly when I insisted on getting a table on the terrace. At least we were promised a place if something became available there. This happened very quickly. However, the couple who had the table in front of us were also asked to pay as quickly as possible. The food was very tasty but here too the prices were significantly increased. Eating out comfortably is different. A few years ago it was much more customer-friendly there.

The Sidewalk is a restaurant with light and shadow. Above all, the question of whether you can get your food here is like a pure game of chance. The food here is excellent. Super delicious in taste and attractively prepared. Drinks also very good and stylish glasses. The ambience is also very good and exudes an Asian flair. The covered seating with glass on the sides is also really great, and you can enjoy the hustle and bustle of Holtenauer Straße while eating. So far so good. Up to this point I would have said full 5 stars and I would like to come back tomorrow. But the service is a complete disaster. Apart from the owner, who understands minimal German, none of the waitresses here - and we had two - spoke a single word of German. Inquiries about dishes are therefore not possible. You have to point what you want to eat on the map with your finger, even terms like "with chicken" or "with beef" you have to point with your finger on the map. An absolute no-go for a job in service that is based on communication with German guests. By the way: you won't get anywhere here even with English. We don't speak Vietnamese. That's why ordering is a pure gamble. But if only 2 of 3 dishes come and the other is forgotten, which we then had to ask ourselves half an hour after the other dishes were there by asking inside (by the way, service never comes back after the first order). : Ordering a drink will be difficult). It doesn't work at all. First of all, no excuse for this. No drink on the house or any form of compensation was offered. impudence. You then have to pay in the store. We then informed the owner about this again. After a while he at least hesitantly apologized. That he didn't even let at least the glass of water that the person who wasn't fed drink be on the house. Super cheeky. For this reason, despite the very good food and ambience, we will not be coming back and cannot recommend the restaurant. It's a shame actually.

The staff hardly speaks German and my food didn't come at all. But I was still allowed to pay for my water. My table companions actually looked quite tasty and would have liked some too...

Very tasty cuisine highly recommended

If I could, I would give the service 0 stars. We ordered starters and main courses and when ordering asked to have them at the same time. This request was confirmed to us but not implemented. We couldn't eat together because everything arrived at a delay and the wrong dish was brought. We then informed the service person and there was neither an apology nor a small compensation, we were just rudely turned away. Mistakes can always happen, it's all about the way that situation was handled. Unfortunately, the unprofessional and unfriendly service ruined the entire dinner and is a clear reason to specifically avoid this restaurant.

There were three of us eating here and we asked that the starters and main courses come together. That didn't work once. Then only 2 out of 3 main courses arrived for the main course. Then the 3rd course arrived incorrectly, then it took another 20 minutes until the correct main course came on. There was no apology after we asked the waiter about it, only a cheeky laugh came back, he didn't want to change anything about the bill. Let alone apologized or shown understanding.

Very tasty, fresh, and completely reasonable in price, attentive, friendly service, nice ambience, we had a wonderful meal and spent hours there, it was very cozy...

Not particularly nice staff. Food is delicious, but also very expensive and asking for an extra euro for packing without telling me beforehand... In addition, my companion got her food from me in 20 minutes and I then had to watch her eat for 20 minutes. Without any apology or compensation. Not again.

The food was great, as was the staff. The only criticism is that it is more of a place for families and not couples as you sit right next to the other table. You can't have real conversations without others hearing you.

We have pre-ordered for pickup via Lieferando. There was 1.5 hours between ordering and collection. When we showed up at the restaurant to pick it up, we were told that it would be closed until 5 p.m. today due to roof work. At that moment our order was canceled and we had to look for an alternative. The restaurant was marked as open on Google, Lieferando and UberEats.

Fresh, very tasteful food. Friendly staff. Nice and cosy atmosphere. Good for vegetarians and vegans. Highly recommended.

We were here because of an article in the Kieler Nachrichten. The food was really very good. In my opinion, this area urgently needs to be renovated. I definitely won't come back here again. Too dark and not clean enough for me. There were four of us and unfortunately the food came very differently, so that the first ones were almost finished when the rest were brought. But if it doesn't bother you. In any case, it was very crowded, I'm sure no one will miss us here.

We came here for a vegetarian dinner and we really enjoyed it. The menu is very diverse and the staff is friendly. We'll definitely be happy to come back

After the meal my husband said, “This meal was just a revelation!” and we are still raving… The atmosphere on the terrace was very cozy, even though you were sitting directly on Holtenauer Strasse and there were probably a lot of passers-by walking past us. We were there at lunchtime and cannot confirm the time pressure that others mention. If our little daughter hadn't urged us to go home, we would definitely have had dessert or coffee. We will be back!

Been in Kiel for years. Always not just a culinary experience!!! My daughter and I love it. It's most comfortable here later in the evening, but also very crowded.

I loved the food, tried vegan as well as seafood. We spent a long time here and didn't even realise it. It can seem a bit cramped up at times when crowded. But I think it's a very cozy restaurant for non-covid times. Love the seafood mi noodle soup. Tofu balls and spring rolls are amazing!

I had reserved a table. In the restaurant, when my order was taken after 25 minutes, I was informed that the table had to be cleared 60 minutes later. Ok, I thought, let's eat quickly. However, it took over 20 minutes for my food to arrive and the starter was also forgotten. Then, 17 minutes later, I had just finished eating but not yet finished the drink, when I was told to pay immediately, including the forgotten starter, of course. The food was super delicious; If you're in the mood for delicious fast food, Sidewalk is the right place for you. If you want to eat in peace with friends (and maybe even dessert), you're better off going somewhere else. The same feedback came from our table neighbors - "tasty, but I won't go here again". A pity!

We had reserved a table for 2 people. When we arrived we were seated at a corresponding table. After 10 minutes we were asked (not asked) to change tables because they were changing for a group. AFTER ordering, we were told that we would have to pay after a maximum of one hour. This created a very unpleasant atmosphere for us and we couldn't really enjoy our stay. It was the same at the next table. One of the guests said as he left that he had never had to eat under such time pressure. Overall, the service was ok, but not particularly friendly. There was actually no communication other than hello and goodbye. Unfortunately the food wasn't good either. The taste of the coconut curry is quite one-dimensional, it tastes like curry paste with coconut milk and side dishes. The chicken was very dry and seemed pre-cooked. Some of the vegetables were no longer al dente, I think they were all thrown into the wok at the same time, regardless of the cooking time. Overall, a disappointing evening for us. There are much better and more atmospheric Asian restaurants in Kiel, such as Sri Thai or Tantamar. The Google reviews show that our experiences are apparently not an isolated case. Unfortunately we didn't read them beforehand.

Today I went to Sidewalk, Holtenauer Straße for dinner with my wife. The ambience, the friendliness and the extremely delicious food was truly a celebration. We can rate it with 1+. We can only recommend it to everyone 👍

The food was totally fine. The option of vegan meat substitutes in many dishes is great. We didn't like the atmosphere that much. A bit narrow and cold. We were also the only guests at the beginning, which may have contributed to that.

Unser Besuch im Restaurant "Side Walk" war von Anfang an zum Scheitern verurteilt. Bereits die Reservierung, die uns einen gemütlichen Abend versprach, entpuppte sich als Fehlstart: Unser Tisch war so eng positioniert, dass wir praktisch mit unseren Nachbarn um jeden Bissen kämpfen mussten. Diese räumliche Enge, gepaart mit der drängenden Mitteilung des Kellners, dass wir unser Mahl innerhalb einer Stunde zu beenden hätten, ließ uns die Vorspeise überspringen und direkt in eine Enttäuschung hineinsteuern. Kaum hatten wir unsere Bestellung aufgegeben, wurde uns das Essen in einer Eile serviert, die eher an ein Fast-Food-Restaurant erinnerte. Das Rindfleischgericht, serviert in einem gusseisernen Topf, war eine Katastrophe. Der Topf, noch im Garen begriffen, verteilte Fettspritzer über unseren gesamten Tisch – eine unappetitliche Angelegenheit. Schlimmer noch, das Fleisch selbst war von einer massiven Fettschicht umgeben, während echtes Fleisch nur spärlich zu finden war. Auch das zweite Gericht, Ente mit Mango-Sauce, konnte keineswegs überzeugen. Die Sauce schmeckte mir, als wäre sie direkt aus dem Glas gekommen, und das gesamte Gericht war übersättigt mit Fett, weit entfernt von einer liebevollen Zubereitung. Die Enttäuschung war so groß, dass wir beide Gerichte zurückgehen ließen, nur um dann erfahren zu müssen, dass wir dennoch die Hälfte des Preises zu entrichten hatten. Zusammenfassend war unser Besuch im "Side Walk" eine Serie von Fehlschlägen: ein zu enger Tisch, ein unangenehmes Zeitlimit, ungenießbares Essen und ein unzufrieden stellender Umgang mit unserer Beschwerde. Es war eine schreckliche Erfahrung, die wir niemandem wünschen und die uns sicherlich nicht wieder in dieses Restaurant führen wird.

Our visit to the "Side Walk" restaurant was doomed from the start. The reservation that promised us a cozy evening turned out to be a false start: our table was positioned so closely that we practically had to fight with our neighbors for every bite. This lack of space, coupled with the waiter's urgent message that we had to finish our meal within an hour, caused us to skip the appetizer and head straight for disappointment. As soon as we placed our order, the food was served to us in a rush that was more reminiscent of a fast food restaurant. The beef dish, served in a cast iron pot, was a disaster. The pot, still cooking, sprayed fat all over our table - an unsavory affair. Worse, the meat itself was surrounded by a massive layer of fat, while real meat was sparse. The second dish, duck with mango sauce, was also by no means convincing. The sauce tasted like it had come straight from the jar, and the entire dish was oversaturated with fat, far from lovingly prepared. The disappointment was so great that we had both dishes returned, only to find out that we still had to pay half the price. In summary, our visit to "Side Walk" was a series of failures: a table that was too narrow, an unpleasant time limit, inedible food and an unsatisfactory handling of our complaint. It was a terrible experience that we wouldn't wish on anyone and certainly won't bring us back to this restaurant.

If you're hungry, you should order somewhere else because Sidewalk will make you wait an hour and then cancel your order.

Unfortunately the last visit to the Sidewalk! We had reserved a table for 4 people and were asked to pay immediately after eating (1 hour). When we asked to order another drink, we were told no and we had to pay because there were other guests waiting, even though we hadn't even been there an hour. We wanted to finish our drinks from the first round and were asked to pay three times within 10 minutes. When we went to pay, the lady wanted to charge us all together, but we wanted to pay separately. This was more of a torture instead of acting in a customer-friendly manner. When we commented that we couldn't even finish the drinks and we couldn't even sit there for 60 minutes despite having a reservation, we only got stroppy answers and impossible behavior from the restaurant!

The food and ambience are okay, very cramped and small, but the service is catastrophic!! Unsympathetic and unfriendly staff, shortly after we had finished our food, we were asked several times to pay and leave despite being full of drinks, even though we had been there for less than an hour. When asked if we had to pay for the half-full drinks we left behind, the annoyed staff replied “of course”…. never again!!!

This was my second time here and the food and service were excellent again. Super friendly people, great cuisine and there is actually something on the menu for everyone. I'll definitely come here until I've tried the entire menu and then I'd like to come back more often. So: an absolute recommendation.

If you want something quick to eat, this is the right place. Despite reservations, we only had 1.5 hours, but we were only informed of this on site. I would have liked to order dessert, unfortunately this was not possible due to limited time. After 1.5 hours, the waitress stood at our table with the next guests and we were asked to leave and pay at the counter. It is therefore better to spend a cozy evening somewhere else. The food was tasty, but was way too expensive and I would prefer many other Asian restaurants in Kiel.

I was there with a friend and we were both more than satisfied. The food came quickly, the portions were large and very tasty. Because I didn't finish all of my food, I was able to take it with me (it was still tasty on the second day). The service was also very nice and you felt really comfortable. The prices (e.g. for Pho 14.90) are totally okay for what you get. All in all, I can definitely recommend Sidewalk and would be happy to come back in the near future. :)

The food is okay, the service is very nice and accommodating. However, the restaurant is not that nice and it definitely needs painting because the walls next to the tables are dirty (grease stains).

Excellent food in a cozy atmosphere. There were fried rice noodles with vegan fillet. What was particularly exciting were the different textures. One of the best Asian restaurants I have visited in Kiel so far. Therefore: all thumbs up I have! (That's about 2 thumbs, 4 if you count my friend's with an equally terrific curry)

The food is good, but the customer service is really bad. The guy who waitress there got mad at us because we told him that we wanted a different drink as the one he brought us and just decided to ignore us for the rest of the night. He went to the other tables to ask if they needed something or to pick up empty plates, or drinks… and with us he literally just turned his head to other side 🥲At the end the wife came and explained in a friendly way that it was bc the drink we ordered was finished but I think they could have say that at the beginning 😅 I think I wouldn’t come back bc of this experience :(

Super leckeres Essen, tolle Atmosphäre Leider stehen die Tische etwas sehr eng und unser Essen ist nicht gleichzeitig gekommen.

Super lecker! Man muss ab und an etwas länger warten, aber es ist auch meistens ziemlich voll. Sowohl vegetarische als auch vegan Optionen vorhanden, die Top schmecken!

Das Ambiente und Essen sind wirklich schön. Unsere Speisen waren schmackhaft und wurden auch zügig gebracht. Allerdings wurden wir nach dem Essen gebeten uns zu beeilen und auszutrinken da sie den Tisch gern weiter vergeben wollten . So ein unmögliches Verhalten ist mit noch nicht unter gekommen und wir werden definitiv nicht wieder kommen .

Super lecker und toller Service! Besonders die Dim Sum und die Frühlingsrollen sind ein Traum.

I ordered it by Uber eats, it was totally terrible, I still can't believe it. That's one portion for food which was just way toooo salty. The wanton was so chewy. I thought there's more coming. Because I paid 26.39€ for this. I should've been more upset about how small the container is for 9-10€ soup, but even if there were more, I wouldn't have wanted to finish it because food was terrible. The "mochi" was also terrible and poorly packed. And that's never worth 5€. I really couldn't believe my eyes for what I've get from this place with 26 something euros. Terrible terrible idea to order here. I'm not sure why google won't post my reviews due to their "policy", but all I can do is just being genuine and honest.

Essen lecker, Service sehr gut, Lokal sehr klein und eng - ist was Besonderes

Vom Ambiente, über den Service, bis hin zum Essen war wirklich alle sehr gut. Wir kommen gerne wieder. Einzig der ständige Parkplatzmangel in der Holtenauer stört natürlich etwas.

Gutes asiatisches Essen, wir essen hier oft als Basketball Manschafft und es ist jedesmal wieder ein Spaß

Schönes Ambiente, leckeres Essen und guten Portionen, saubere Toiletten, nettes Personal. Mal eine andere Art asiatisch zu essen und nicht nur immer gebratene Nudeln mit Ente und co. Ein Stern Abzug beim Service, da teils lange niemand vorbei kam. War auf jeden Fall eine Bereicherung und ist zu empfehlen.

Was für ein kulinarisches Erlebnis in Kiel. Sidewalk Asian Streetfood hält was es verspricht und ist ein absoluter Geheimtipp. Tolles Preis und Leistungsverhältnis mit überragender authentischer Qualität.

Ein Grund nach Kiel zu ziehen! Sehr leckeres Essen, wir hatten Grüne Papaya Salat und Make it Rice mit Tofu-Bällchen. Ich wusste gar nicht, dass es Tofu auch in lecker gibt - außen knusprig, innen soft - mit frischem Gemüse und einer sehr würzigen Vinh Spezial Sauce. Für zwei nur ein bisschen hungrige Personen hat beides zusammen gut gereicht. Der Grauburgunder war frisch und ebenfalls sehr lecker, ohne Nachwirkungen. Die Limonade Cranberry/Granatapfel (?) wahr etwas süß, aber lecker. Sehr netter, guter Service, unkompliziert. Preise moderat und völlig angemessen. Wir kommen wieder.

Wir haben leider 1 Std auf unser Vorspeisen inklusive Hauptgerichte gewartet, Gäste am Nebentisch, die später gekommen sind, haben wir essen früher bekommen. Alles im allem war das Essen sehr frisch und lecker, aber die Wartezeit kostet leider zwei Sterne.
