Seerestaurant Forster in Schondorf am Ammersee

We've been to Café Forster two or three times so far. The location is phenomenal, offering a breathtaking panoramic view. The atmosphere was pleasantly quiet. The hard chairs in the outdoor area aren't very comfortable, but we were lucky enough to get our own cushions, which quickly solved the problem. The waitstaff, with visible dedication despite the full house, did their best – respect to them. We all noticed a subtle, passive-aggressive undertone throughout the place; if they could recognize and adjust it, the friendliness would remain, and guests would feel welcome. The dated interior didn't bother us at all. The refurbished restrooms served their purpose. Whether the price level is appropriate (lakeside location/business management 2025) is something everyone can judge for themselves (0.5L Spezi €5.70). A very meager and dried-out piece of plum cake (€5.80) with cream (+€1.60) unfortunately didn't impress us in terms of taste. We didn't order any other dishes in the end. As is well known, the restaurant industry is under economic pressure, struggling with rising prices and reluctant customers. In fact, we also believe, in line with some comments here, that self-service could be a viable solution as a structural measure. A visit is worthwhile, but the culinary details desperately need a little polishing.

The restaurant is showing its age. We had booked a table for 10 people for a birthday party, brunch, and he gave us an effusive speech about how he would take care of us. We arrived, and no one knew what to do. No table was set up; everything was quickly prepared. The cold cuts and cheese platter came out of their packaging; I would have set it up nicer myself. Men's restrooms have urinals... the outdoor area is old and unkempt. It only survives on its location... a shame.

Oh dear... I did, however, experience the loud service mentioned by my predecessors as a positive... pretty much the only thing... Atmosphere The "Forster" thrives solely on its location directly on the lake. The interior is decorated in the style of the 80s. Tiles, table, and chairs. When we were there, about four children were playing half-naked with old toys. The atmosphere is like a canteen. The outdoor area consists of gravel, very uncomfortable chairs, and tables. Everything seems very old. The windows are dirty, and cobwebs adorn every corner. The wood is old and peeling. If you walk around the building to the restroom, you pass a very unsightly drinks store. The food reminded me of my apprenticeship. Butter in pieces of aluminum foil, bread rolls, yogurt, a bit of fruit, jam, and honey in pots like you'd find at country boarding schools. We had pre-ordered, but when we arrived, nobody knew anything about it, and everything was improvised. The climax: We were asked to pay in cash. When we said we didn't have any cash, they wanted to send us to the ATM. Absolutely not. And certainly not again.

The location on the lake is amazing!!! I agree with the others here on everything else. Unfortunately, the staff isn't exactly friendly and rather stressed. The food is okay, but nothing special. The vanilla sauce on the apple strudel was just a tiny bit. Which is supposed to be good. Plus, card payments weren't possible, and this was in 2025! But: the proximity to Lake Ammersee is amazing. You have to weigh things up.

Well, what can I say? We probably should have read the relevant previous reviews. The pleasant location had beckoned us after a walk around Lake Ammersee, and without further ado, we reserved a table on Saturday (which wasn't necessary). We were offered a good spot with a view of the lake. Unfortunately, the disappointment set in in the evening. At the window, both inside and out, there were spiders of all sizes, almost a terrarium. The food—we had the Beach Burger and the Blackfish Burger—was presented rather carelessly. Unfortunately, the onion rings weren't peeled properly, so I had to pick out the strips of skin. Neither burger was a culinary masterpiece. Well, we did get an espresso on the house. The friendly waitress also made a mistake with the bill, so overall, it really wasn't worth the trip. With a lot of effort and work, they could certainly improve this place, but balancing and eliminating the multitude of mediocre to poor reviews would probably be a real effort. I don't usually write bad reviews, but in this case I really had no other choice.

Because of the location, yes, the rest, let's say, was "complicated"... We were here on Sunday around 3:30 p.m. for coffee and cake. Our stay was marred by a middle-aged, blonde waitress who is hopelessly overwhelmed with so few tables facing the lake and expresses this verbally, constantly, and everywhere. To reduce her stress level, she simply reserves the tables after payment. An interesting business model. The cake, unfortunately, is anything but delicious and has nothing to do with a bakery/pastry shop. The spritzers, on the other hand, were great. Perhaps they should check whether every server is also suitable for direct customer contact...

Unfortunately, I can't recommend this restaurant, which is a real shame. It's beautifully located on Lake Ammersee, the spritzers are very good, the food was okay, and the cinnamon ice cream was perfect. The lovely ambiance was completely ruined by a server who was in a state of complete mental distress and loudly communicated this several times. She was clearly serving six tables. All the guests were calm and relaxed; no one was stressed. But each table was loudly informed, in a state of complete overload, that everything was too much today and that they should just be patient... she can't do everything at once... taking orders, serving, clearing, cleaning tables, etc. It ruins the enjoyment. This employee should have been removed from the company immediately to stabilize her.

Very nice location right on the lake with a lido. The service was very friendly. Our burgers were delicious, especially the fish burger. It took a while for the food to arrive, but ultimately the wait was worth it. I think with a bit better organization, the wait time could definitely be shortened. 👍

We were there on Monday and actually wanted to have coffee and cake. Unfortunately, after ordering cake at the counter, none of the staff paid any attention. We weren't given a menu, nor could we place our cake order. After 15 minutes, we left the café. The service seemed very disorganized, with young assistants who didn't know how to provide good service.

Beautiful place, right on the lake. Service was attentive, but you have to ask for everything. The cheese spaetzle for 14 euros wasn't good at all. The dumplings with a little cream and cheese were warmed in the microwave. A shame.

Die Lage ist top, direkt am See und im Strandbad integriert. Der kleine Cappu ist ok und wircklich nur ein kleines Tässchen. Die Kuchen sehen teilweise ordentlich aus, nur meiner war sehr trocken, ich befürchte eher vom Vortag. Draußen kann man sehr schön sitzen, im Innenraum muffelt es etwas. Freundlichkeit des Personals durchwachsen bzw. Launisch. Preis Leistung untere Schublade. Sehr kleiner Cappu ein Milchkaffee und trockener Kuchen 18.- Das geht von Preis Leistung, Qualität und Wohlfühlfaktor in der übrigen Gastronomie in Schondorf deutlich besser.

We waited 1 hour for the card and went in several times but didn't get one

Nice location but the prices are not appropriate for the atmosphere. Nothing has been invested there for 20 years and yet the prices are higher than, for example. at the “Seepost”, the “Alte Villa” or even at the chic restaurant “Lenas am See”. Edit: All of the restaurants mentioned also have fish from the lake. Although I highly doubt that all the fish actually come from the lake. In addition, only cash payment is possible, which should make tax officials sit up and take notice.

Great restaurant with a gigantic panoramic view of the beautiful Ammersee! The fish dishes, among others, are highly recommended. Depending on the season, the fish come from the Ammersee and sometimes in autumn the game comes from regional forests. An absolute insider tip! The restaurant is family-run. Attention to detail is clearly evident. Also very good for cyclists for a tasty stop and in summer for bathers as the restaurant has an outdoor pool.

A nice place that has probably seen better days. The two stars for the food refer to the price-performance ratio. The trout was fine, but at €26/port. overpriced. Unfortunately, the Kässpatzen were only mediocre. The espresso for €4.60 takes away the desire to come back. Unfortunately here a.m. The customer's point of view is scared away. Too bad

Rip-off at its best. The alleged Italian cappuccino costs €5 and is a small cappuccinch that has absolutely nothing to do with an Italian cappuccino and simply tastes bitter. Sitting at the sea is so good. The relaxed atmosphere now in autumn is great. Service was very nice and professional. We reserved some Zwetschgendatschi in advance because we did not want to be to late after lunch. Every wish was fulfilled perfectly. Thank you for this wonderful time.

We were out at Lake Ammersee in bad weather and spontaneously went to Forster... The service was great, the food, beer and the view were very good. We'll come back soon when the weather is better... 😊 and we were there again in fantastic weather... About 6 weeks later. Conditions were very friendly that day and she was very embarrassed by the state in which the kitchen was preparing the food for the guests. The food looked and tasted an absolute disgrace for the prices. It's a shame ☹️

Total überteuertes Frühstück. Blick schön. Bedienung nett. Preis / Leistung absolut ungerechtfertigt. 24,40 für ein grosses Frühstück bei dem nur 1Marmelade, ein paar Blätter lieblos angerichtete Wurst und sonst nicht viel geboten ist, rechtfertigt auch keinesfalls der Blick auf den Sonnenaufgang. Alles in Allem. Leider enttäuschend. ....an der Preisschraube sollte dringend gedreht werden!

Leider war das Frühstück, das schlechteste was ich je erlebt habe!!! 25 Euro für aufgebackene harte Breze, eine trockene Semmel, 3 Scheiben Schinken mit grünlichem Schimmer, 2 vertrocknete Salami und Käsescheiben. Der Latte Machiatto lauwarm. Beim Bezahlen habe ich es angesprochen. Abgebrühtheit über schlechte Kritik muss auch gelernt sein. Sehr enttäuschend!!!

Nice excursion restaurant with good parking connections. If you like different fish dishes, this is the place for you. But there's something about just coffee and cake with that lingering atmosphere.

Be careful, there are a lot of PHOTOS misplaced here. If you see the Augustinian coat of arms, that is the Seepost 200m south. Here at Forster there is Hacker-Pschorr. Different chairs, different view. But both to the sea... er Ammersee, there's no need for the sea

Definitely nice in summer. At the time I was there there wasn't anything going on and the water was very high, but the food was relatively classic in taste and the price was way too expensive for that. But just my opinion. A bit run down but right on the lake.

We sat outside and enjoyed our fish platter for two. And the panorama as well. We were surprised that there were also free places on the afternoon of Pentecost Sunday without any problems. I struggled a bit with the white fish, the small sharp bones were nasty. We really enjoyed it here, you can unwind here. Parking is difficult here, you have to walk a bit. Inside, time seems to have stood still a bit: the charm of past decades. The toilet is outside around the corner. The fish dishes are really recommended, the boss is a fisherman himself and brings his catch to the table. We were served nicely. Here you can still slow down... We would like to come again!

The two of us were there for breakfast. €25.50 per person. The result was this: Ojuice from the pack, boring cheese, ONE Babybell, yoghurt, NO fruit, baked rolls and two very disappointed people. Therefore absolutely not recommended.

Seaside restaurant with good cakes. The building is a bit old and the ambience is a bit like a trip back to the late 90s. Prices are up but not off. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Wir sind heute zum Frühstücken im Restaurant gewesen. Das war das teuerste und langweiligste Frühstück seit langem! Lieblos, phantasielos und nur auf Profit orientiert. Orangensaft aus der Packung, billige Weizensemmeln, kein Obst (halt 2 Trauben im Joghurt...) und langweiliger Käse. Es stimmt, es stand so in der Beschreibung, aber für 25,50 € dachten wir, es wäre auch andere Qualität. Kantinenambiente! Man kann leider nur abraten. Aber die Bedienung war sehr nett.

A beautifully located restaurant and café on Lake Ammersee. The cake, such as a Swabian apple cake or a currant mascarpone cake, tasted very good. The coffee was also good. The prices are, as usual on Ammersee, high. The service was friendly, you had to be patient, which should be easier in your free time.

War jetzt zum dritten und letzten Mal da. Immer völlig überfordertes und komisches Personal. Das Essen ist auch nicht besonders. Den zweiten Stern gibt's für die Aussicht.

Try it with coziness, with peace and coziness... I think that's the right motto here. Food was okay and service was rather pleasant. I think it would be better here if you switched to completely self-service and couldn't look into the kitchen. The location of the location is really great and great. Unfortunately you can't get it that way. We were happy that the overload sign was taken down shortly before us. In my opinion, this sign doesn't make much sense because it gives visitors the feeling that it won't work here. There was a selection of food and drinks and the vending machines at the entrance were a really good idea. Maybe this should be expanded to include food and only serve drinks at the counter. I think the guests' expectations will be different and the stars 🌟 will be higher in the end.

Wunderbarer Ort zum Schwimmen oder Kaffee trinken oder essen.

Leider hatte mein Lieblingsbiocafe geschlossen und dann bin ich hier gelandet. 1 Stück mittelmäßiger Kuchen und eine Tasse Cappuccino für € 9,30. Leute, das ist doch nicht mehr normal. Da hilft die ganze schöne Aussicht nix.

Herliche Fisch (Saibling). Prima Bedienung. Schöne Ecke am Ammersee.

Tolle Lage, die leider nicht genutzt wird. Essen ist okay (Burger und Pommes gut, Salat ist auch eher schwierig), das Personal meist freundlich aber - Entschuldigung - unfähig und unaufmerksam. Insgesamt Renovierungsbedürftig. Der Besen für die Spinnenweben an den Fassaden und für den Dreck vom letzten Jahr dürfte auch gerne Mal benutzt werden. Wir kommen wegen der tollen Lage direkt am See trotzdem gerne her, für mehr als drei Sterne reicht es so aber nicht, insbesondere weil die Preise nicht zur Leistung passen. Update vom September: der Service geht leider noch eine Stufe weiter runter. So macht es dann keinen Spaß mehr.

Wir sassen heute draussen...sehr nette Bedienung wie immer. 1 Stückchen Blaubeerkuchen 4.80 €...und dann war er auch noch von gestern...denke eher vorgestern. Ausgetrocknet! Hälfte ging wieder zurück. Sehr schade und ärgerlich!

Ein Traum klares Wasser ein Restaurant mit gutem Essen ein Kiosk ,Umkleidekabinen einfach Klasse und es gibt kostenlose Parkplätze

Salat mit Geflügel Nuggets kostet 14 Euro (+nochwas). Es gäbe aber auch kleine Portionen, was ich dann bestellt hatte. Die Rechnung war jedoch die selbe wie eine ganze Portion. Lediglich sei ein Geflügel Nugget weniger auf dem Teller..!?! Haha....!!!!

Wer sich einfach nur hinsetzt und auf den Service wartet, wird wahrscheinlich irgendwann von seinen Verwandten als vermisst erklärt ... wer so feist ist und ein "Äh ... tschuldigung... " gegenüber einer vorbeischwitzenden Bedienung:innen zu lautbaren, oder gar eine Speisekarte selbst zu organisieren, der hat mit nicht unter vier weiteren Ignoranzrunden der Hauskräfte zu rechnen. Das Essen ist soweit okay, der Ausblick Hammer ... es scheitert leider an der nicht enden wollenden Überforderung und meist damit verbundenen Unfreundlichkeit, der einem wirklich den Spaß vermiest.

Kleines nettes Seebad mit Umkleiden, Café/Restaurant. Ein SB Automaten gibt es ebenfalls und der Eintritt ist günstig

Ein großer Salat Teller zu ( der Teller war groß bloß am Salat hapert es gewaltig für den Preis) Brot kostet extra

Nettes Café mit leckeren hausgemachte Kuchen große Auswahl für alle was dabei. Frisch gebrühter Kaffee. Große Terrasse mit Blick auf den Ammersee, schön und gemütlich zum sitzen mit Freunden oder Familie. Personal freundlich. Alles sauber.

Ein schöner Ort am See. Einziger Minuspunkt: auf der Herrentoilette, welche immerhin an die Küche angrenzt, stinkt es bestialisch nach Urin.

Etwas in die Jahre gekommenes Strandbad, was den Charme jedoch auch ein bisschen ausmacht. Liegeflächen direkt am Wasser sind nicht sehr groß, dafür ist die Wiese hinter dem Weg recht groß. Gastro ist vorhanden, Eintritt 3€ absolut okay. Dafür sind genug Toiletten und Umziehmöglichkeiten vorhanden.

Geöffnet wenn alle anderen zu haben und super leckeres Essen. Auf jeden Fall eine Empfehlung Wert 👍

Klein, aber nett. Netter Service. Kiosk und Gaststätte. Man sehr günstig einen Schirm und Liege mieten. Mehrere Toiletten. Hunde geduldet.

Sehr gute Kuchen, Service war ok, schönes Ambiente am Seestrand, mit Strandbad im Sommer.

Miniurlaub im Alltag mit den Kids. Wir waren unter der Woche hier zum Frühstück und haben vor allem das Ambiente und die Kinderfreundlichkeit (Sandkasten mit Seeblick und tisch direkt daneben) genossen. Der Service war freundlich, das Frühstück klassisch und sättigend. Auch zur Hauptspeise würde man hier etwas leckeres finden. Drinnen gibt es zudem einen Dublo/Legotisch für die Kleinen. Absolut top für alle Eltern, die mal warm Essen oder Trinken möchten.

Sehr freundliche Mitarbeiter. Die Fischplatte für zwei war wunderbar. Der Kartoffelsalat selbst gemacht, wie toll. Die Rohrnudel wunderbar. Das Ambiente am See einfach schön. Gerne wieder!

Essen gut, Bedienungen sehr freundlich aber.... Leider völlig ungepflegtes Ambiente. Terrasse außen hat seit Jahren keinen Staubwedel oder Besen gesehen. Appetitlich ist was anderes. Schade

Wir haben uns entschlossen einen Salat mit gebackenem Hähnchen und gebackener Mozzarella auf Salat zu bestellen...und heraus kam ein Salat ohne Dressing ( die Hälfte davon war Kartoffelsalat) mit ! Chicken Nuggets!! Und der Mozzarella entpuppte sich als Mozzarellasticks. Nie wieder !!

Schöne Lage, toller Blick auf den See, guter, frischer Saibling, gute Weine. Bedienung freundlich, aber überlastet. Auf mein 2. Glas Wein musste ich 10 Minuten warten. Wunsch: bitte Kartenzahlung einführen.

As a local I can basically suggest to avoid this place. While the location is good, problems are: - the Food is mediocre at best, fish is okay but most in general is store bought and not prepared well. The price/value for many dishes is pretty bad as well, especially for game dishes. - Interior is very outdated and unattractive, amenities such as toilets are straight up unacceptable - some of the wait staff can be quite overwhelmed by the number of visitors, so it can take a while. And knowing how badly they cooperate with artists and local organizers of a welfare festival is another reason not to support this place.

Tolles Wetter und auf der Heimreise von Garmisch nach Stuttgart nochmal eine kurze Rast am Ammersee.übers Internet Nach einem netten Lokal gesucht.Erster Eindruck überrascht: tolle Lage direkt am Wasser das Mobiliar schon antiquarisch Und ungepflegt.Bedienung lustlos ein junges Mädchen als Aushilfe.Wartezeit Noch akzeptabel.Schweinebraten mit Knödel (Pfanni Gummi Knödel) 12.30€ Der Braten war schon etwas älter hatte schon einen dunklen Rand. Wurde im Wasser heisst gemacht. Die Sosse sah aus wie das Wasser im See!! Ob es vom Geschmack her einen Unterschied gibt weiß ich nicht. Toiletten im Anbau unterirdisch vermutlich aus den 1930 Jahren.Nächstes Mal mache ich einen Bogen um dieses Restaurant.

Super Lage, schönes Wetter...was will man eigentlich mehr? Überforderte Bedienkraft, 20 Minuten Wartezeit um die Bestellung aufgeben zu können. Weitere 20 Minuten um die Weinschorle zu bekommen, das Mineralwasser allerdings noch nicht mit dem Kommentar: Sie sehen ja selbst, was in der Küche los ist. Und das noch nicht einmal bei halb gefülltem Restaurant. Unser Saiblingsfilet mit Salat ohne Kartoffeln kam als Lachsforelle mit 3 Kartoffeln und einem Beilagensalat. Kommentar: Lachsforelle ist auch ein guter Fisch. Wir waren kein Einzelfall. Gäste an den Nachbartischen bekamen auch andere Speisen als bestellt. Fazit: Nie wieder. Die Anlage hat aber Potenzial, welches von den Eigentümern jedoch nicht genutzt wird.

Direkt am See sitzt man heimelig und toll. Aber auf altem Mobiliar. Da wird am falschen Ende gespart. Der Fisch direkt aus dem See gleicht das aber aus. Das werden sich bestimmt auch die anderen Leute denken...

Für die Lage direkt am See, innerhalb des Strandbads, holt das Lokal massiv zu wenig aus sich heraus. Am Nebentisch wurden 4 Gäste nicht bedient, weil die Servicekraft nicht „den ganzen Tag im Regen laufen“ wollte. Es hatte immer wieder leicht geregnet, der Aussenbereich war allerdings geöffnet und die Schirme offen. Wir hatten nur Kleinigkeiten zu Essen, Kässpätzle und einen Wurstsalat. Beides macht überhaupt nicht Lust auf ein Wiederkommen, alles in allem leider nur kaum durchschnittlich. Es ist jammerschade, was die Location eigentlich hergeben würde, hier bleibt sehr viel Potenzial leider ungenutzt.
