Gastronomy as it should be 💪despite the lack of staff, guests can expect very friendly and very professional service. The ambience is harmonious and very pleasant, the menu is manageable, which is very pleasant and is reflected in the extremely high quality of the dishes. I really enjoyed being here and look forward to seeing you again. Reservation is highly recommended

Five of us spontaneously went to Smuggler's to eat schnitzel. We also got a table at short notice, although there was a 10 minute wait, but that was fine. The service was also perfect. We would eat at Smuggler again.

Spontaneously asked at the restaurant for a table for two people, but it was already 6 p.m. We were warmly welcomed and they tried to accommodate us. Food was very good, courteous and nice. Were absolutely thrilled. We also reserved a table for the next day. Always happy to repeat.

We were there for the first time and very satisfied. We were only able to get a seat outside, but it was cozy and warm. (Heating) The food was absolutely great. The service was quick and attentive. We'd love to come back.

Simply wonderfully delicious food.

Always a celebration. We reserve two weeks in advance to make sure we get a table again. The service here is very important. People look very carefully to see whether drinks have been emptied and whether there are any further requests. The food is always tasty and served quickly. Price/performance and service are very good here. We like to come back every year.

Every time here again, great food, nice staff and boss.

Very good and rightly very popular restaurant, also located in the Helmholzsiedlung near the city center. The menu offers fine fish dishes and meat preparations of the traditional style. No surprises, not even in the price. The service is excellent, but almost nothing works here without a reservation. Nordic coolness and friendly warmth form a very pleasant mixture here, but even in times of tension you always keep an overview and never lose your smile. When you receive so much good things, it's really worth a good tip. A real recommendation, also for returning.

Super leckeres Essen, tolle Atmosphäre, richtig urig. Freundliches Personal, die Möglichkeit drinnen oder auch draußen zu essen, auch im Herbst durch Heizstrahler.

Wir hatten das Menü „Fischpfanne Schmuggler“ 3 Fischfilets mit Bratkartoffeln bestellt. Es wurde schon nach ca. 10 Min. serviert, was uns schon ein wenig irritiert hat. Der Fisch war so trocken das man ihn mit dem Messer schneiden musste, wie gut das das Messer nicht gegen ein Fischmesser ausgetauscht wurde, die Bratkartoffeln waren teilweise eiskalt. Der Geschmack ließ erst recht zu auf sich warten uns hat uns nie nicht erreicht. Zeitlich war der Platz für 1,5 Std begrenzt, also musste die Küche sich beeilen, so sh das ganze auch aus. Im ganzen sah es aufgewärmt aus. Das alles für 23,80 Euro

Wir waren zweimal dort, jeweils zum Abendessen, Fisch und Fleisch. Große Portionen, gute Qualität, einen entspannten Abend verbracht. Der Service ist sehr gut und freundlich. Wir kommen wieder.

I felt really comfortable in the smuggler on Norderney! The service was super warm, and the “Pasta Land & Meer” was a blast – I really want to bathe in the sauce! Add to that a delicious Norderneyer Brauhaus beer, and the evening was perfect. This restaurant is an integral part of every Norderney holiday!

When you call, there is only a brief announcement of the opening times, then you hang up straight away. Emails are not responded to at all.

The food was like in a chip shop. Fried potatoes sopping full of fat and partly burnt. Waitress cheeky and pushy. You don't have to have it unless you want to have chip shop food. How some positive reviews come about is really a mystery to me 🤷‍♀️ I didn't want to do any stars but in order to post this you will see stars. You are almost forced to do it

We were here for the first time today. The menu initially made a good impression. However, when the food was served we were very disappointed. I myself chose "pollock fillet lighthouse keeper". Among other things, there were only 5 small boiled potatoes on the plate, which came from the factory already peeled. An absolute “no go” for me. Plus a really small salad. All in all, this place is “mass processing”. We won't be coming back and can't recommend it.

We had plaice and schnitzel each with fried potatoes. Super tasty. Super nice service. Was with our dog it's not an issue at all. We'll be back and looking forward to it.

Full marks. We had take-away food. The first contact on the phone was extremely friendly. The food was delivered exactly to the minute, that's what I call German punctuality. Schnitzel and grill plates excellent. Side salads just right. Unbeatable in terms of price - I've had smaller salads on the island (basically just filling material without cucumber, pepper, tomato) for more than twice the price.

Given the top reviews, we expected more. For us it was just ok ambience (dated) and ok food (including ready made salad dressing) with ok service: First we waited a long time to order, then the wrong food arrived and a special request went unanswered).

A quaint restaurant with delicious German food. The panfish was super tasty and the fried potatoes were crispy. The cordon blue with seasonal vegetables and hollandaise sauce was also really good. The waitresses were very friendly and there were even a few treats for our dog :-)

Ein uriges Restaurant mit leckeren deutschem Essen. Der Pannfisch war super lecker und die Bratkartoffeln knusprig. Das Cordon-Blue mit Saisonalem Gemüse und Sauce Hollandaise war auch richtig gut. Die Bedienungen waren sehr freundlich und es gab sogar ein paar Leckerlis für unseren Hund :-)

Nice atmosphere, nice owner and very friendly service. Unfortunately the salmon was too dry, otherwise the fish pan was delicious.

Wir haben während unseres Urlaubes nicht nur vor Ort gegessen, sondern auch einmal Essen abgeholt. Wir haben noch nie so liebevoll dekoriertes To-Go Essen wie im Schmuggler bekommen! Auch der Service vor Ort ist erstklassig, unkompliziert und ungezwungen locker! Das Hähnchen mit Currysosse ist ein Traum und auch die Schnitzel sehr empfehlenswert. Draussen sitzt man ruhig, vom Trubel der Stadt entfernt auf einer zugfreien Terrasse. Es lohnt sich, mal einen Blick aus der Innenstadt Richtung Siedlung zu werfen und diese tolle Lokal zu besuchen! Wir kommen jedenfalls gerne wieder! Danke für diesen schönen Abend.

Unfortunately I have to report a very negative experience. Recently I wanted to personally reserve a table at this restaurant. The owner was very curt, refused for the current evening and basically ruled out the following day as well. Sure, it was peak season and the staff shortage is omnipresent. But the basic rules of politeness should still be observed. Fortunately, other innkeepers on Norderney are much friendlier than this one.

We love going here to eat delicious food with delicious 😋 Norderneyer beer 🍺. The team responds to all requests.

It’s not easy to find a good German restaurant that can also offer awesome seafood menu. Here at the Schmuggler the foods are so on point and delicious. First be sure to reserve a table in advance because you could be sent home if you just walk in here without prior call. The staff at the reception table was kinda arrogant but you have to let it go 🤣 because the foods here are worthwhile. We come here every time we visit the island and we find the Land and sea pasta very very good, Matjestatar and Fischpfanne very impressive and our must have is Schokoladen Soufflé with the running chocolate in the middle. Services were ok as a good German could be😅.

We ate at Smuggler for the first time today and both the children and the adults loved it! The food was of great quality and the price-performance ratio was also good. You could tell that the chef knows what he/she is doing! The schnitzel was really juicy and the fried potatoes were perfect between soft and slightly crispy. Our daughter had the best chicken nuggets of her life and even ate the vegetables, which were super fresh and slightly crunchy. Even the small side salad was super tasty. The service was also perfect. Thank you for a lovely evening! It certainly wasn't our last visit there.

We discovered the “smuggler” while taking a walk. It is almost 2km outside the city. A reservation is necessary in high season, but it's really worth it. We got a table in the winter garden. The service was very relaxed and friendly, the food was very tasty - so everything was great! Thanks so much

Delicious restaurant outside the “Zentrum” in the Nordhelm settlement. Good and honest cuisine at low prices (for Norderney). North German and friendly welcome. Reservations not possible after 8 p.m. We had to wait a bit, but only for a short time. Schnitzel delicious

We were there with 4 people and had to wait outside for a while because it's not possible to make a reservation after 8 p.m. - it's apparently common there (hence a star deduction for service) - fish soup, bruschetta, onion soup, plaice fillet Jens...?, Jägerschnitzel, Schnitzel Norderney & Weiner Schnitzler were excellent AND with a good price/performance ratio - we'll go there again. The boss at the reception is a bit stiff... there's still room for improvement... but it doesn't have to be... 😉

I tried to reserve a table twice. Both times I had to call again that day to be told that I could only get a table on the terrace "on the first visit at 5:30 p.m." Overall, the gentleman on the phone seemed quite arrogant. It's a shame... luckily there are still enough alternatives on Norderney.

We ate here twice while on vacation and it was really delicious each time. The portions were sufficiently large. The waitress was very friendly. However, you should definitely reserve in advance.

Food was good. But the fact that here in the covered but closed outdoor area, people smoke at every second table, even though everyone sits close together and children are allowed to inhale the smoke clouds in high chairs, is very surprising these days.

You can only come to this restaurant during peak mealtime with a reservation. We stayed here twice within a week because the price-performance ratio was right. The food tastes very good, the portions were large, the service is attentive and very friendly.

On our first visit last year we were very impressed by the atmosphere of the place, more of a mixture of a rustic pub and restaurant, and above all by the friendly team. Even though the kitchen was actually closed (around 9:15 p.m./9:30 p.m.), they took pity on us and let us order. The schnitzels served were really tasty - not only considering how hungry we were after a long walk. The day before yesterday we had to learn that (almost) nothing works without a pre-order. Ok, so dinner was a little earlier than usual for us. Even the reservation was made amid jokes and laughter. The team on site was extremely nice and friendly. The meal, this time "panfish with fried potatoes and salad" for both of them, accompanied by Norderneyer Pilsner and Radler, followed by a Cup of Danmark or warm apple strudel with vanilla ice cream, was again really tasty. Well away from the general tourist hustle and bustle, with a mix of locals and guests, the place is buzzing, but there is still no quick mass processing there. Simply a place to feel good, relax and “have a good mood”. Definitely, the “Smuggler” will also be a regular point of contact on our next visits to the island.

Unfortunately, we just walked past it two years ago. This time we rented a holiday apartment near the harbor and could therefore easily walk there. The food was delicious. We ordered both fish and meat for four people. It was also great that you could order the delicious Norderney Brauhaus beer. One point is deducted because we sat right next to the kitchen and the floor was quite slippery. Unfortunately not a good place with your four-legged friend. Otherwise everything to our satisfaction.
