Sao Mai in Halle (Saale)

Cash only for months now, due to "technical reasons". The food is really good, but it's probably a case for the tax office.

Unfortunately, I can't rate the food because we (3 adults with a sleeping infant) were refused entry with a stroller. Even though the restaurant isn't very large, there would have been enough room for a stroller with an infant at the empty table. This is unacceptable service and definitely not something I would recommend.

A small but excellent Vietnamese restaurant. The staff is friendly and motivated. The food and drinks we ordered were delicious. On the day we were there, card payments weren't possible due to technical issues. However, there's an ATM nearby. The restrooms were clean.

Unfortunately, the location isn't the most beautiful, and there are a few awkward corners in the restaurant (e.g., in the restrooms). Therefore, we deducted one star. Important: Cash only! Always a great experience at Sao Mai. This time I was able to sit outside. Even though the surroundings aren't as beautiful, Sao Mai's summer garden offers a lovely place to eat outdoors. The food was, as always, very good and plentiful. Service was quick and friendly.

Seven of us went out to eat. We tried a variety of dishes, all of which were delicious and freshly prepared, with generous portions. It's a small, simple but cozy restaurant. Friendly staff. A lovely outdoor terrace in the summer. Good value for money.

I spent a weekend in Halle with my girlfriend, and we happened upon Sao Mai on the first evening. It was so incredibly delicious (and healthy, with a great selection of dishes on the menu) that we actually ate there all three days – everything was excellent (from the soup to the appetizers/salads to the main courses), and we can only recommend it wholeheartedly.

I was traveling in Halle for business and had planned to go to another restaurant. On the way there, I noticed Saumai – especially because of its inviting outdoor area and the many guests already seated there. A quick look at the Google reviews convinced me to spontaneously change my plans – and it was definitely the right decision! I received a friendly welcome and found a seat right away. Spring rolls were my starter, followed by a special dish for the main course – both were exceptionally delicious, freshly prepared, and beautifully presented. When I'm back in Halle, Saumai will be at the top of my list. Thank you for a great evening – see you next time!

Wir waren heute mit der ganzen Familie (2 Erwachsene und 4 Kinder) im Sao Mai Restaurant in Halle (Saale) essen – und wir sind absolut begeistert! Schon beim Ankommen wurden wir herzlich empfangen. Das Restaurant bietet sowohl im Freien als auch drinnen eine wunderschöne Atmosphäre. Wir haben uns für einen Platz draußen entschieden und konnten bei schönem Wetter die liebevoll gestaltete Terrasse genießen. Auch drinnen wirkte alles sehr einladend und stilvoll. Das Essen war einfach fantastisch! Die Speisen wurden frisch zubereitet, waren aromatisch, wunderbar abgestimmt und wurden ansprechend serviert. Jedes einzelne Gericht war ein Genuss, und auch die Kinder haben ihr Essen sehr genossen – was ja nicht immer selbstverständlich ist. Besonders beeindruckt hat uns die Vielfalt der Speisekarte und die hohe Qualität der Zutaten. Auch das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis stimmt hier absolut. Für die Qualität und Frische der Gerichte finden wir die Preise sehr fair und angemessen. Der Service war freundlich, aufmerksam und sehr kinderfreundlich. Wünsche wurden sofort erfüllt, und wir haben uns rundum wohl und willkommen gefühlt. Fazit: Das Sao Mai ist ein echtes Highlight in Halle für alle, die asiatische Küche lieben oder neu entdecken möchten. Wir kommen ganz sicher wieder und können dieses Restaurant jedem wärmstens empfehlen!

Der Tee war lose im Glas, und ich musste erst nach einem Löffel zum rausnehmen fragen. Das Essen war leider kalt bis lauwarm. Kartenzahlung war nicht möglich, wurde vorher aber nicht kommuniziert. Die Bedienung vergaß, das Rückgeld zu geben und musste darauf erst aufmerksam gemacht werden. Insgesamt macht das Restaurant einen eher schmuddeligen Eindruck.

I love this place but they rise the prices constantly(!!!!) and i am really sad about it. I would come more often but it got just too expensive. S2 got the perfect taste but is now at 16€ (Update:17.90).. “Baked Hands” was on the menu but it was simply chicken cut into pieces and cooked with sauce. The price was too high in relation to the quality of the food. The seats were uncomfortable. In addition, you could only pay in cash. The bean sprouts had a bad smell.

Fantastiskt god mat på denna lilla rustika restaurang! Glasnudelsalladen är helt underbart god. Detta är en restaurang som ofta är fullsatt så kvällstid kan det vara svårt att få en plats. Garanterat ett återbesök från oss nästa gång vi är i Halle.

A small restaurant with healthy Thai cuisine. It is cooked without glutamate and the food tastes super fresh and delicious. The salads and sauces are unique so far 👌 We come more often ;-)

Ein nasskalter Novemberabend, an dem man nur drinnen sitzen konnte … das Ambiente hier ist zwar gemütlich, trotzdem eher Bistro-Style. Die Bedienung war sehr aufmerksam und nett, und das Essen hat sehr gut geschmeckt. Ich würde jederzeit wieder hingehen.

On this warm summer evening, you can sit comfortably on the simply made wooden furniture under the shady trees in the Sao Mai's guest garden. Children can play in the sandpit next door. The extensive menu offers Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese cuisine, main courses range between 10 and 23 euros. The fast and objective service informs me “No card payment” before I can place my order. I choose "GÀ XÁ ÓT (A specialty from Hanoi, rice vermicelli with fried, tender chicken breast, mixed salad, lemongrass, lime leaves, spring onions and chili - served with SAOMAI sauce and Hanoi salad in a bowl. (spicy))" . The dish has a healthy spiciness and tastes good with a Köstritzer black beer. To my delight, there is also Vietnamese coffee. Die umfangreiche Karte bietet vietnamesische, thailändische und chinesische Küche, Hauptgerichte liegen zwischen 10 und 23 Euro. "Keine Kartenzahlung" informiert mich der schnelle und sachliche Service vorbildlich, bevor ich meine Bestellung aufgeben kann. Ich entscheide mich für "GÀ XÁ ÓT (Eine Spezialität aus Hanoi, Reisfadennudeln mit gebratener, zarter Hühnerbrust, gemischtem Salat, Zitronengras, Limettenblätter, Lauchzwiebeln und Chili - serviert mit SAOMAI-Soße und Hanoi-Salat in einer Schale. (pikant))". Das Gericht hat eine gesunde Schärfe, dazu schmeckt ein Köstritzer Schwarzbier. Zu meiner Freude gibt es auch vietnamesischen Kaffee. Disappointing. I'll start by saying: The food is good, especially the Nem, almost like in Hanoi... And: I usually prefer to write positive reviews. But: The service, ambience and politeness in the restaurant really disappointed us We were there on Tuesday evening, 3 people in the restaurant, a small group outside, "reserved" signs on almost all tables. We were "allowed" to squeeze into a table for two, my husband is 1.92m tall - not that easy. When I pulled up a stool from the next table to hold our bags, I was initially reprimanded. It has to go back when other guests come! Just where??? No space at the table, no hooks on the wall... A shaky clothes rack that is constantly pushed back and forth by the staff - surely that's not serious? When we were already eating and the place was still half empty, we were told that we could sit at one of the larger tables. Moving with the food!? When paying there is no receipt, EC or other card payment is not available. What does the tax office say about this...? Overall, this has nothing to do with a pleasant atmosphere in which you would like to enjoy your food. The look is certainly intentional, street style... ok, but you can expect a minimum of gastronomic quality in a restaurant. We've been to Sao Mai a few times over the last few years because we liked the food. But if the framework isn't right at all, there's no reason to come back. There are plenty of other places that offer Vietnamese food and where guests are treated politely.

By far my favorite Vietnamese. Extremely delicious and healthy food. No matter what you order from the menu, it is always a taste revelation. I've probably eaten there 500 times over the years. And I brought all my relatives, acquaintances, friends and colleagues with me. EVERYONE was thrilled. The quality speaks for itself and the constantly full restaurant proves that the operator and his team are right every day and that they are doing everything right. Absolute recommendation. Even international Hollywood stars have eaten there and raved about it 🙌👌

Waiter asked me to sit at another table even though there were many free tables. I wanted to stay in my seat because I could easily put my bag there. Ultimately the waiter put the menu on the table assigned to me and not where I was sitting. Outrageous.

I have ordered veg red curry and mango curry today it was awesome , asked the chef to make it spicy he made it spicy , it was awesome. The only thing which i dont like was they dont accept card payment , so i have to go back and get the money , otherwise everything was perfect

Very rude service staff, cheap, inferior restaurant, I had to quickly eat something before my train left, that's why I ended up there. Dirty benches outside, as if abandoned. You can only pay in cash, they don't take debit cards or credit cards, are there still restaurants like this, are we in the Middle Ages? He said you can only pay in cash. When I asked for tea afterwards he said they don't just sell drinks, you have to eat something and he shook his head. I've never heard anything like that! This is a million times rude and they have no normal sense of customer service! Well, I spent my money somewhere better after that! Never again!!!

The Sao Mai is a restaurant with very tasty food, friendly staff and a beautiful outdoor seating area. The only drawback is that card payment is not possible. The summer rolls are incredibly delicious.

Kleines feines vietnamesisches Restaurant. Wir waren für drei Tage in Halle und haben uns sehr gefreut dieses kleine Restaurant gefunden zu haben. Tischreservierung ist zu empfehlen. Wir waren mit 4 Personen an einem Mittwoch Abend dort, wir wurden recht Freundlich empfangen und hatten einen Tisch reserviert .. die Bestellung wurde prompt aufgenommen und das Essen war zeitnah und heiß auf dem Tisch .. Ich hatte eine leckere Vorspeise 🥣 und der Hauptgang war auch einfach nur lecker , für meinen Geschmack war das Essen perfekt😎😎😎 es gibt nichts zu meckern , gar nichts .. Nur die Bedienung war halt normal , es hat mir die Herzlichkeit gefehlt und ich habe mich nicht soooo wohl gefühlt, irgendwas hat einfach gefehlt .. daher kann ich leider nur 3 Sterne für den Service geben 🙈 Fazit : toller Abend , weil das Essen einfach leider war .. kommen wir wieder … auf jeden Fall 😎😎😎

Es lohnt sich Wir waren zum Abendessen zu Gast. Das Restaurant ist ziemlich klein, was uns an sich gefallen hat, da man meist in größeren Restaurant sein eigenes Wort nicht versteht. Wenn man das Salz in der Suppe sucht, könnte man sagen sie könnten die ein oder andere Sache modernisieren aber das macht auch etwas den Charme des Restaurant aus. Der Service war sehr freundlich, dennoch ziehen wir einen Stern ab, da bei überschaubaren Aufkommen, die Kellnerin sich ein oder zwei mal öfters blicken lassen hätte können. Das Essen war geschmacklich top. Hier gab es nichts auszusetzen. Preislich gesehen, konnten wir von der Leistung her auch kein schlechtes Wort verlieren. Es lag absolut im Rahmen des geleisteten. Schlussendlich können wir das Sao Mai weiterempfehlen.
