Salzburger Stuben in Kassel

We visited the Salzburger Stuben in Kassel on January 4th, 2026, and were absolutely thrilled! The service was incredibly friendly and attentive; we felt welcome from the moment we arrived. The food was truly excellent – ​​fresh, delicious, and prepared with great care. We especially appreciated how dog-friendly the restaurant is: our little dog was with us and was immediately given water and even some chicken – that's far from standard practice and made us very happy. 🐶❤️

For over 40 years, we've been getting chicken there or sitting down in the cozy restaurant and eating in. Today, we were in the city center on a whim and thought, "A delicious schnitzel at the Salzburger would be just what we need." We hadn't been there for a few weeks and were really looking forward to it. My wife loves their Kaiserschmarrn, and we were given the menu. Kaiserschmarrn €18? Jägerschnitzel with fries and a small salad €25.50?? That means if we were to order two schnitzels (not filet or veal, just pork schnitzel), we'd be paying €51? 100 marks??? (Yes, I know), but what kind of price is that for two regular schnitzels??? No, sorry, not with us! Since we were already there and didn't want to leave empty-handed, I convinced my wife to order the chicken platter for €26.90 (!) and simply ask for a second plate to share. We told the server our order, and what did she say to us???? She wanted to charge €2 for the plate (just an empty, clean plate)! Uhhhh, what? We didn't want to buy the plate! What's going on? My wife angrily said, "We'll eat from one plate!" So, no. We understand that everything has become expensive. But please, dear Salzburger Stüberl, don't let yourselves be ignored like Milka chocolate just was. People aren't all stupid. They notice when they're being ripped off. Like we did today. We are very saddened by your outrageous pricing policy and, just like with our weekly grocery shopping, we will no longer tolerate it. We don't want to be ripped off anymore and will only buy... or eat... where the balance of quality, quantity, and price is right. Unfortunately, that's no longer the case at Salzburger Stuben, and as a loyal customer of decades, I'm more than sorry...

Picked up a great knuckle of pork two days ago. Delicious as always, and the price is right. Friendly staff, whom I've known for about 55 years. Even as a child, the chicken was delicious. Greetings from Alexander (Helga)

Every year on Christmas Day, we have our traditional Christmas dinner... Unfortunately, this time we were disappointed... no chicken, schnitzel was expensive, and the portions were very small... What a shame!

Hi, this restaurant is simply fabulous. I've known the Salzburger Stuben for years and haven't found a restaurant that offers better food. My uncle has been a regular customer for years and is convinced that the food is simply delicious. If you have the time, you should definitely visit the restaurant, and even a long journey is absolutely worth it.

We were a group of 10 at the Salzburger Stuben restaurant in Kassel on Christmas Day (today). The food took over 1.5 hours to arrive, which was extremely disappointing. The service was also not very attentive. The explanation given was that a wait of over an hour is normal on Christmas Day. However, this is not an acceptable explanation for guests. Therefore, this restaurant is absolutely not recommended for Christmas Day.

We went to Salzburger Stuben for Christmas dinner with our family and were very disappointed. Despite having a reservation, we had to wait over 1.5 hours for our food, which is absolutely unacceptable, especially on a holiday and with several people at the table. Furthermore, the half chicken, which was the reason we originally chose this restaurant, was unavailable. Even though we were informed of this, it didn't change the fact that the visit was completely pointless. Overall, the lunch was very frustrating and in no way met our expectations for a successful Christmas meal. Due to the extremely long wait and the limited menu, we cannot recommend this restaurant.

The food was truly delicious and of excellent quality; there's nothing to criticize there. However, the wait times were very long, and even though the restaurant was quite busy, a slightly faster service would have been appreciated. The staff seemed stressed at times, but remained friendly and tried their best to accommodate all the guests. Overall, the visit was satisfactory and enjoyable, although there's still room for improvement.

Half chickens to go: A bit pricey, but by far the best half chickens in Kassel. Nice and crispy, well-seasoned, cooked through, very meaty, falls off the bone. Always a pleasure!

Reserved a table here at short notice (you really should!) It was so delicious! We would have loved to try everything. The selection is so huge. You'd have to spend 14 days here just to try the entire menu. Yummy!! Warning: The Kaiserschmarrn requires 30 minutes of lead time. It's best to order it right when you order the main course. The waitress is amazing! I hope she stays that way for a long time. The ambiance is well-thought-out and somehow "homey"! Great!! We'll definitely be back if we ever come back to Kassel. However, a little (well-intentioned) tip from me (with 27 years of experience in the restaurant industry): As soon as you seat your guests, hand them the menu. This gives them something to do and they won't even notice if you, as a server, don't have time to ask them what they want to drink. ;-)

Good food and exemplary service

The Salzburger Stuben restaurant lived up to its name in terms of food and ambiance. Excellent food that you would normally only find in Austria. The portions were generous.

The liver with mashed potatoes is simply incredible, very tasty!

We got chicken today, that was the last time, it was very dry, we will probably only go to a restaurant from now on.

Unfortunately, the half chicken we got to take away was too salty and too dry :-( It was much better the last few times!

We went to Salzburger Stuben today and ordered two Wiener schnitzels. The breading was already burnt, and the meat tasted and looked strange. I asked the waitress about it, and she simply replied, "We often sell that." That was our last time there. Absolutely not recommended.

We sat outside at first. The people next to us had ordered schweinenhaxe (schnitzel). So many flies were attracted to it, it was unbelievable. According to the waitress, that's standard with this dish. We went inside, no flies, but it was very warm there. Unfortunately, the schnitzel wasn't very tasty.

A real insider tip with heart – just like mom's place On Saturday evening around 9 p.m., we spontaneously sat down at the Salzburger Stuben in Kassel – and were warmly welcomed from the very first second. The place is small, intimate, and incredibly charming. You immediately notice that people matter here, not just sales. We opted for the daily special – schnitzel with fried potatoes and green sauce with egg. The choice was veal, pork, or chicken – that alone shows that they think carefully. We chose the pork schnitzel, and what can I say: Perfect! Crispy, juicy, and, in my opinion, fried in butter – just the way a good schnitzel should be. The fried potatoes were wonderfully golden brown, the green sauce fresh and full of flavor. We would especially like to highlight the service: Our waitress was not only attentive and professional, but truly friendly – with genuine warmth and a smile that came from the heart. The rest of the team was also friendly and welcoming. It feels like eating with good friends or your own mother. In summary: A place to feel good, enjoy, and return. If you appreciate genuine craftsmanship, honest cuisine, and warm service, this is the place for you. Thank you for the lovely evening! 💛

It was delicious, but my so-called giant schnitzel was a standard size and was only 5 mm thick, or rather, thin. Most of it was the breading, which has nothing to do with being giant. Backhendel wasn't my thing, but that's a matter of taste.

Polite staff, a relaxed atmosphere where you can sit and chat with a soft song playing in the background. Appetizer: tomato soup: FANTASTIC Meat with paprika sauce with what I think is pasta. I also ordered sweet potato fries to go with them, which were very, very good. But it wasn't necessary, as it's more than enough. I left feeling stuffed and overly satisfied. My boyfriend ordered classic chicken, which honestly serves two to three people. He comes a lot, and he's close to bursting from so much food 😂 He says he's giving it a 3 out of pity. 🥲 I don't know how to understand. Thanks for the food; for me, the best of the night: tomato soup and potato soup.

After more than 40 years, I was a guest at the Sazburger Stuben again. I've known this restaurant since I was a child and was so surprised by the quality I'd known since I was a kid. Nothing has changed, and even the manager recognized me after all this time, as my mother and I were frequent guests, and a personal friendship developed from this, which was naturally an emotional experience. I can only recommend everyone to try the delicious chicken soup when they visit. As I said, the food is still just like it was when I was a child.

The ambiance is pleasant, and the outdoor seating is very good and, above all, interesting. The portions are very generous, so come with a real appetite. The value for money is absolutely justified. Although we had made a reservation long in advance, there was no room inside for us. Luckily, the weather was good, and the very friendly staff found us a good spot outside. The food was good and plentiful, although the salad could have been improved. We had various versions of schnitzel.

A good place in the center where you can eat non-fast food in a pleasant environment. I liked their apple strudel.

Discovered by chance. Super nice service who really enjoyed gastronomy. Greetings to the nice lady from Carinthia. Unfortunately the fries were cold and the chicken was very dry so I can only give it three stars. But the ambience was very good and the service was super good.

I ordered the “crispy garlic chicken” which unfortunately wasn’t crispy at all. Instead, it was overloaded with garlic and salt – and I say that even though I normally love garlic! It was simply inedible. When I asked the waiter about it, he just said, “Well, I wouldn’t have ordered that either.” I found this reaction extremely unprofessional and disappointing. Overall, my visit was unfortunately a huge disappointment and I will not be visiting this restaurant again.

The food was delicious and the service was polite, but we definitely think the price of 38.50 euros for a goose leg with dumplings and red cabbage is exorbitant. Here you don't need to tell the guests about how much geese cost to buy and the constant talk of inflation. We farm ourselves and know the prices that restaurateurs sell. For comparison: other restaurants in Kassel offer goose legs with side dishes for well under 30 euros. In the end, the guest always has to foot the bill.
